It's the first Monday of the year! It's also National Creampuff Day, if that helps any, plus National Science Fiction Day. (And don't forget, Donatella will be visiting us tomorrow.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm doing big jasmine, in La Via del Profumo Tawaf.
Reminder: 1/6 will be Take it down a notch Friday — wear a perfume that has a bad reputation because people wore way too much of it back in the day. Go ahead and wear it lightly, or go loud and proud, you'll get points either way. Suggested by Bear.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Reglisse Noire
Twins!
Holy cannoli!!! Talk about synchronicity 🙂
Hope you like it as much as I do!
Love this, too!
It is kind of an unknown pleasure, right?
Definitely under the radar. Who knew that licorice with a little mint, vanilla and patchouli could be so nice?
I didn’t have anything on, so decided to wear my recently acquired Reglisse Noir sample. It’s very nice and woodier on me than I expected. Thanks for the inspiration!
My pleasure 🙂
Gorgeous dreamy photo! I could just step into it and disappear!
No scent as of yet but will wear something low key like Fresh Cream because I’m meeting a guy who wants to take a look at my FJ. It might entail a test drive so I don’t want to wear something that may make him pass out at the wheel. ????
Drinking my first Monday morning coffee of the year in the back yard while watching T-Rex demonstrate her canine super power jumping and flying skills. So powerful and agile! I’m envious!
I could step into it and disappear if it did not look so cold! Good luck selling the car.
Thank you! While I know I need to sell it, I hate to see it go. It’s been a rock solid dependable vehicle since the day I bought it. Plus, it just fits me. It’s the closest to being “cool” as I’ll ever get ????
Ha, I am so uncool that I don’t know what an FJ even is!
Musc Ravageur Maurice Roucel. Even after an early morning workout and shower, a whisper of cinnamon and musk clung to my skin.
Sprayed abundantly because now I am drinking triple strength coffee, while preparing Chili. Onion, garlic, peppers, and beef complete the olfactory landscape.
Carpe Diem. Happiness and peace will prevail.
🙂
2 thumbs up for this entire post! ????
Big 2nd!
and a 3rd!!!
Make that a 4th!
Since my standard perfume resolution that I routinely fail is to try on skin more samples than I acquire , I am sampling Dasein Spring this morning. 3 samples down from the 40 leftover from last year (not to mention the backlog from previous years…..). Last year I only tried 210 scents on skin.
I am so glad I am not counting samples! I don’t even want to know, the backlog is horrid.
I’m awed by the concept of untried samples! I don’t have the restraint to put things away for later when I get a sample package in the mail.
Me neither! If they’re dabber samples, I usually tell myself they’ll stay discrete and apply like . . . three as soon as I open the package.
My samples have piled up too… 4th quarter sales always bring me a bunch of samples with my new FBs. This year I have (so far) refused to even count how many new samples are lurking. Suffice it to say I had to use a goodly sized box to corral them. Eep.
How is it? I recently read about this line and I’m intrigued by their seasonably named scents….have you tried any of the others?
It’s a slightly powdery vetiver-centric scent that isn’t particularly me. I don’t remember if I’ve tried any of the others; if I have, they weren’t memorable enough to make it onto the full bottle wishlist
I’m super impressed that you managed 210 samples. That’s a lot!
Eau de Rochas today.
May the new year bring joy and blessings !
What a great scent, one where the juice and bottle match perfectly.
oh you smell wonderful! The weather is brittle and cold here but I can’t wait until it’s warm enough to soak myself in EdR again 😀
Thanks! Its warm here today. I wore a sleeveless shirt with long pants and sandals. Eau de Rochas fit right it 🙂
Sotd is Oriental Express. I smell very fancy, and worthy of the name Perfumista.
I wore that yesterday. You smell marvelous!
I was inspired by you wearing it! Thanks!
Cool! 🙂
I thought about Oriental Express for New Years eve. It’s one of my somewhat elastic top ten. (Somewhat like elastic waist pants, my top ten accommodates supernumerary favorites.)
Lol, at elastic top ten:) I’m going to adopt that.
????
🙂 What a great concept!
Having a hard day but at least I’m enjoying Goutal Sables, which is perfect.
This Friday I’ll be wearing Giorgio, lol!! Great project. 🙂
I have no more, but my mom and I wore gallons of that in the 80’s!
Sables is stunning! I hope it helps (with the hard day).
I just tried Sables last week, Beautiful!
Hope your day progresses to easy-peasy!
I hope your day improves soon.
I hope your day improves! I almost wore that after reading your post. Sables is so toasty and warm and wonderful.
Crabtree&Evelyn West Indian Lime cologne.Because it’s 38 celcius today. And I had errands to run.Soapy fresh, kinda reminds me of the Lutens soap bars.Happy Monday!(I first wrote Tuesday, lol….time…it waits for no-one but sometimes it goes too slow)X
Nice! Sounds a bit like my Jo Malone French Lime Blossom…maybe I will wear that one tomorrow 🙂
Nice!That’s a great cologne.
Relaxing at home today before I go back to work tomorrow. Wearing Iris Silver Mist, drinking my first cup of coffee and not even thinking about stepping out in such a grey, rainy day.
Joining you with coffee and thinking about how I don’t feel like going out in the cold rain, though I do have to later. Enjoy the relaxation!
It is going to be so cold starting Thursday that I wish I could stay home one of those days instead of today. I guess it is time to welcome winter? ????. Time for another cup of hot coffee…
Winter is not welcome, but I guess we have no choice. And we’re on the same coffee schedule. #3 for me!
You smell great. A good choice for staying in or braving the elements.
What is Iris Silver Mist like? I haven’t tried that one. I do like Iris though
This cannot be true!!!Lol!You have not smelled ISM??
no…out of all the things I have smelled..I have yet to smell this one.
I can’t believe it either..
Lol,no worries,it took me a while to finally smell the Legend as well.I was not disappointed.
ISM is a very earthy, cold rooty iris. Not the soft, powdery type. It wears close to the skin for me. It is very beautiful. You should definitely try it.
You must sample. SL ISM is the archetypal iris, and one of the truly great perfumes.
To me it smells just like the name — like a landscape wreathed in little mists, and the greenery all silvered with dew.
It is very austere and dry, rather introspective. It seems almost lunar, with no sweetness or round corners. I don’t wear it very often but when I am in the mood for it, nothing else will do.
I’m not a huge iris fan, but I really love this. It is the most iris-y iris you can imagine.
Oh, I love Iris Silver Mist. Why go out when you can just stay home and smell yourself? 🙂
Totally agree with this zen like activity. I shall sit under a tree and smell myself until I keel over! What a life????
????
Tumulte Pour Homme today. My parent’s caretaker is ill and had a long weekend off for the holidays, so I’m going out there to fix lunch and dinner for another couple of days. Split pea soup has been requested. I’m tired and need an extra dose of growly perfume to power through. Enjoy your day everyone!
You are an angel and your parents are very fortunate. Best to all of you for a peaceful 2017.
You picked the perfect growly perfume!
Growly power is sometimes the most effective.
Shalimar body powder and the Vanilla flanker of Shalimar
Went to the diner and fed the kids pancakes. Happy New Year to them
Nice start to the year 🙂
Happy Monday! I have today off and will do mostly nothing except drink a lot of coffee and go to a movie later today. I’m still in remnants of Barbara Bui which I put on yesterday late am. That’s some serious longevity! I’m feeling rosy today so will either go with Aramis Calligraphy Rose or Lyric today.
We have mostly stayed in doors today except venturing out to a diner with the babies. I also had coffee, diner coffee, nothin like that! Good old fashion drip!
Agree. I can still smell the smooth rich nuttiness of the coffee I took out from the neighborhood diner on my way to work when we lived there. Mmmmmm.
Diner sounds cozy today. And diner coffee does have its charms, though I’m admittedly a bit of a coffee snob.
Today is a perfect indoor day. We’re doing much the same in my house.
Doing mostly nothing is the best thing ever. ????
It is! I think it’s the one thing I’m consistently motivated to do, and I do it almost perfectly????
It’s always at the top of my ” to do” list.
Perfect movie day. Most folks (like me) will likely not venture out….
I just read Kevin’s review of Tawaf, and it’s promptly gone onto my to-sample list! I’m doing my best to stick to one of my New Year’s perfume resolutions and not let samples pile up, and am trying out Broken Theories on one arm and Kouros on the other. I’m enjoying both — Broken Theories has a wonderful smokiness to it, like a campfire built out of wonderfully fragrant wood, and Kouros, while big, doesn’t seem at all as impolite as some would have you believe.
It is lovely! And you smell great.
In an effort to diminish Mount Sample, I am trying the Sylvaine Delacourte scents. Today will be Florentina, which is supposedly her personal scent. Will repoert back later with my opinion.
I am interested in sampling her line, where did you get the samples? Please report back with your opinion! Would love to know what you think
I ordered directly off her website, only €4 for the set.
Please do, very curious. Denyse had one of the SD perfumes on the Grain de Musc best of 2016 list.
I saw that too and I am curious
Did you like it? I was a bit disappointed – sounded great but I found it a bit sickly. But I will retry (and try the others).
Well it goes on nicely, I can see why it is Sylvaine’s favourite – she loves white musc and almond and that’s what this smells like. However, it has low sillage and after 2 hours I could only smell it faintly if I pressed my nose up to my arm, so I just hosed myself down with Hypnotic Poison. Feeling much better now. 🙂
money saved!
thegoddessrena and Isabella have me contemplating my samples…
Somehow they have gotten the best of me and reading the “Best of 2016” lists has triggered the urge to get more. Perhaps this is the year to exercise restraint in that area, or reduce chocolate consumption. Doing them simultaneously would be really difficult.
SOTD is Majda Bekkali Mon Nom Est Rouge. I’m just starting to appreciate the rose after an hour of spicy incense.
Have a great Monday!
Having read last night about the heart-health benefits of cocoa, I’m drinking water based, spiced hot cocoa. Pretty good, we’ll see if I can keep it up.
I too cut back on buying samples the last couple of years, but feel a perfume-related road trip coming on. ????
That one took a couple me a couple of tries, but I like it. It reminds me of a rosier, more concentrated Epic. Possibly because it’s the same perfumer? In any event, you’re smelling great!
And you inspired me to wear that today!
I tried it again because I read that the perfumer is Cecile
Zarokian as well.
I would definitely not recommend reducing chocolate consumption, it has such important medicinal benefits. 🙂
What a beautiful purple fuzziness on the picture, love it!
I’m wearing Atelier Cologne Silver Iris, needed something that would cheer me up on the 1st day at work after Christmas holiday break.
It is a public holiday here today,I thought this was the case worldwide? You smell great, regardless!x
In the U.S. the traditional holiday is January 1.
Many places of employment are closed today in the US because New Years Day fell on Sunday…hence, i am not working 🙂
January 1 is also a public holiday in Poland, but January 2 is not 🙁
Well that just sucks!Did you have a holiday Dec 27th?(we did…)
Nope, johanob. It was a working day but I took a day off.
In Aotearoa-New Zealand, we get two days of statutory holiday for both Christmas and New Year. It’s adjusted accordingly to accommodate Fridays and weekends, so tiday (my Tuesday) is a holiday here, except for the poor souls who work in retail. Many businesses simply close down on Christmas Eve, and quite a few won’t open this week at all.. I think we might be very lucky in terms of world practice, though. I’ve wondered too whether we get a day more at Easter than most places.
Same here,if it’s on a Saturday,the Friday becomes a holiday,on a Sunday,the Monday.Plus we had the 27 th Dec last year also declared a public holiday.
You’re lucky. Here most places had to work on December 24th. Everyone could go home at noon though.
Normally December 25-26th are Christmas Holidays here and then January 1st, but in 2016 it all happened on weekends, so we didn’t get any recompensation of an extra free day because those free days were saturdays or sundays.
House twins- in Vanille Insensee today.
PSA- Luckyscent has Silver Iris and Ambre Nue on sale.
You smell good!
Ack! Donatella visits TOMORROW! I will have to work hard on my rationalizations today 🙂
Haven’t quite picked a SOTD yet. I’m working thru my ‘last chance’ bottles, trying them one more time before they get exiled to Ebay. So I’ll end up in a mix of things by the end of the day. (Cue Donna Summer’s “Last Dance”…)
Enjoying one last day off work. Dang, I wish I were retired!
Happy New Year, NST!!
I proudly have NOTHING to show Donatella tomorrow. It is a first for me(sample sets do not count, right?right.)
Oh hush, you. 🙂
LOL!!!
Byredo Gypsy Water today. Packing up all the Christmas stuff – mostly because our poor tree is so, so dry.
Then beginning to sort through … everything. Looks like a big move to the Pac NW is in our near future (currently in Colorado). Although I am in favor of the reasons behind the move and we have family there, I am so stressed about the actual process of the move. If anyone has words of wisdom regarding a move after 25 years, I am all ears.
And looking forward to reading everyone’s Donatella posts!
I hate!! the moving process. The longest I was in an apt before moving was 14yrs and it was painful. I think the antipatory dread was worse than actually packing up everything. Once I started, yes, it was a lot of work, but sort of meditative, actually. And the upside is we got rid of tons of stuff. I guess the silver lining is forcing you to decide what you don’t need to keep anymore and a new, fresh place with new possibilities feels really good. If I can do it, you can do it!!
Thank you for the encouragement. The worst part (and best part, of course) is that we have 3 boys who are all on their own now, but we still have lots of their stuff. Getting them to sort through is like pulling teeth…
I can see that being very stressful and though my circumstances are different, my husband tended to collect stuff which he didn’t want to part with, so that part did cause some conflict and stress. But we got through it and he did end up unloading quite a bit in the end.
Here is my perspective as one of those grown kids who have moved out but left stuff behind: give the boys (men) a firm deadline to claim any of their belongings, and then get rid of the rest (with the exception of a few sentimental items). If they haven’t managed to get the stuff out of the house already, it’s probably not a priority.
My parents gave my brother and I a deadline to deal with our belongings, and I’m so glad they did because I had forgotten how much I had left behind. What did I take with me from all of it? A cigar box that was given to me by my grandfather and a china bowl. Everything else that was important to me was already in my possession.
That is good advice!
Yes, great advice. Thanks. It’s particularly hard for one of them in particular. He hates change. I am trying to reassure him that I will store some things for him – but only those that are truly special. I like the deadline idea.
I moved after 15 years to a much smaller house and I found that going room by room, packing a few boxes each day and ruthlessly purging what hadn’t been used, didn’t fit, or I didn’t like anymore was key to avoiding last-minute madness. I also printed my own color-coded room labels for each box and labeled the contents. Knowing that lime green was for the bedroom made it much easier for the movers to get boxes where they belonged and knowing what was inside helped me unpack what I needed first. Good luck! If you are moving close to Portland I’ll invite you to dinner!
Love the color-coded label idea – thank you!! I’ll be in the Seattle area, but would love to get together in Portland for perfume sniffing at some point!
I moved from NM to NC in 2015, alone and with bronchitis the whole time. Here’s what worked for me: (I only had 5 years accumulation)
Started culling 4 months before the move, stuff going to friends, charity or the trash. This also helped me unconsciously categorize remaining possessions. Halfheartedly began packing belongings, least frequently used first (I unpacked these last after organizing, painting, decorating). When I was totally exhausted and overwhelmed, I took a perfume road trip to Vegas, for distraction and clean air. I figured since I was moving east it was something I wouldn’t get the chance to do again. On my return, the remainder didn’t seem so overwhelming. Organize your plans first, then try not to think about what you’re doing: music, tv, friends to talk to all help. Yes, it took me longer but I kept my sanity (I think).
Good luck!
Excellent – thanks!
Well, not 25 years here,I lived 9 years here in the countryside.Moving the end of THIS(????) month back to the city. Also no good advice! But I did start packing early. And my process of elimination was this:if first thought is “this is trash”,then it is.No second doubts.I sold a LOT of furniture/clothing/bric-a-brac,and somehow the house is STILL not empty and I still require Stuttafords van Lines to pull in with a truck to come help me…Lol.I did also book a “fridge-truck”,seperate from the main move. They will come in at the very last minute to take my perfumes. It’s hot here, and I don’t want to move fumes with an ordinary truck, nor take six trips in my car myself.Yes I have a huge collection.Lol.Sooo…feeling your pain regarding a move!!x
Thank you!! I am starting as early as I can. I’ll have 3 or 4 months, but it’s a big house that had a lot of people in it at one time (we have 3 boys- grown up now, and a dog).
Yes,I hear you.We also were 3 grown-ups and two Sharpei’s,now it is just me(2016,what a year….) moving on and out!I had 4 generations of “stuff” to sort through. But I am glad I did charity give-aways/garage sales/trips to the local dumpsite. And I do not miss anything that has gone. Not finished dumping yet,though.Lol.
It’s an ongoing process as life and we change, right? I am working on donating/selling now.
And then I’ve got my husband telling me in one breath to be ruthless at paring down and in the next breath saying, “Are you sure you don’t want that?” Argh.
And good for you for moving on!
Run out of comment space in my part of the thread, lol! If I can redirect to advice:first thoughts:stick to it.No “but are you sure…” moments.Tell yourself YES I AM SURE and just do it.Lol.Otherwise you are going to get stuck.I had a period where I was stuck, even wanting to reclaim things I threw out.Lol.But glad I stuck to it,my life actually feels lighter, despite the fact that I still do have many many many things…Lol.Moving on:what else can I do,though.Lol.x
I moved after 22 years in the same place. It was stressful, but the feeling of getting rid of many, many unnecessary things was relieving and liberating. I felt so light after keeping just what is was needed.
Yes, looking forward to that part! I’m a big fan of Marie Kondo – I just didn’t have to actually do it to this extent before…
I read a quote many years ago in regards to moving and going through possessions….”When you get rid of the things you don’t need, your possessions become less of a burden.” Along with the stress, it can be quite liberating- best of luck!
Love this, thanks.
springpansy, thank you for starting this thread. We are not moving imminently, but it’s in the future and I would prefer to start paring down and categorizing now. We used to move a lot and it helped us keep things organized. My husband loves to keep useless adaptors, phones, and electronics. Although some could end up in a museum or be an ancient artifact some day, I don’t feel the responsibility to make that happen!
Gosh, I could just say ditto, ditto, ditto to most of your post. It was only recently that the move changed from “in the future” to “imminent.” (My husband has a box of Christmas lights strings so that he can pull out a few if we break the good ones…)
And, to keep this post on topic, I’m already planning how best to move my perfumes and am looking forward to the next Freebie and Swap Meets – I’ll be listing some of my bottles for sure!!
For perfume, in your vehicle I assume, those blue plastic ice blocks placed over the top of your perfume bottles work well (with a folded sheet or tablecloth in between).
Purge ruthlessly. Moving is a fantastic opportunity to get rid of accumulated excess. One of the minimalist bloggers I follow even said that if you’re not sure about any item worth less than $20 to get rid of it, if it’s something you could easily obtain later if you find you really need it. Think about how light and relaxed you will feel on the other end when you’re unpacking, and just do a few boxes at a time, starting well in advance. The dread is worse than actually doing it, just put on some nice music and start in. Good luck!!
Yes! Thanks! I will just start somewhere and press on.
Settled on AdP Blu Mediterraneo Bergamotto de Calabria (whew) for today. Woke late with a headache. Cloudy here but anticipating 3 days of 60-ish weather.
Robin, funny, I saw a bright summer morning in that picture! Beautiful.
Have a good (short) week, all.
You are doing better at wishful thinking than I am — that picture is gorgeous but cold to me.
This is a Loud&Proud day, as I am in Chinatown perfume and the body silk. It won’t be an L&P week, since I’ll be back at work, but perhaps I will underspritz some heavy-hitters instead.
Science fiction and cream puff day? Two of my favorite things! I’m sampling Cocoa Sandalwood and I might have to scrub it. I keep trying to like chocolate or cocoa notes but I just don’t. Off soon to get the dog’s nails trimmed and to buy a new ceiling light for the den.
Couldn’t take it anymore so I washed and now I’m wearing Alahine parfum. I am so lucky to have this.
I love chocolate and cocoa, but haven’t found a perfume with those notes that I could stand, let alone like. Funny, huh?
Une Rose Poivrée, which has faded by now. Mind you I put it on over 12 ours ago. It’s a really great rose.
I’m rather dreading my confession to Donatella 😉
That is one of my favorite roses, you smell wonderful! 🙂
It is really great, a pity I don’t wear it more often.
You smell great. I think I have to confess that one too. It was discounted, so a necessary purchase 😉 .
I’m finally feeling better after a full 7 days of illness. Just awful. And better just in time to go back to work. Lucky me.
I’ve stayed away from wearing any perfumes not wanting to create any negative associations.
Having a bit of coffee and then I think it’s time to try to accomplish some things…
SOTD: Bois des Iles extrait
Happy 2017, perfume friends!
Here’s to good health & wonderful new scent experiences!
Stinks to be sick that long, and during the holidays on top of that. Glad you’re feeling better. You sure picked a beauty to get back into the perfume routine again!
🙂
Glad you are better. I had thought you might be out of town since hadn’t seen you post in a while. Definitely a beautiful scent to restart with…
Glad you are feeling better.
Poor thing, how awful. Glad you are better at least. You smell wonderful.
I’m glad you’re feeling better. But now you’ll have to wear twice as much (or as many – your choice 😉 ) perfumes to make up to your favorites for the week you neglected them 🙂
I’m with Pixel in enjoying one last day off work and wishing I were retired (which was unthinkable for me until about the last year …) SOTD is vintage Le Dix – so yummy.
You do smell great, sorry you have to go back to work.
Me too. 🙂
Cream puffs and sci-fi: that’s my kind of day!
I’m in Mitsouko, masking, and watching some Premier League. Rose Bowl later. Not a bad day.
Have a good one, NSTers!
Not a bad day at all!
Starting a week of Aedes de Venustas with “Oiellet Bengale”, which is nice and all that, but doesn’t really have enough ‘presence’ for my tastes. My skin tones everything down ridiculously, so I’m sure this one will work better for other people.
Top: turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, cloves and saffron;
Mid: rose, white pepper, big strawberry and floral notes;
Base: vanilla, tolu balsam, benzoin and labdanum.
I made a umimpressive progress on my book idea, but the first step is to get my brain thinking about this rather than about holiday food or whatever, so I’m not displeased. :^)
* Oeillet
** made unimpressive progress
Oeillet Bengals is one of my favorites. On me, it is mostly floral spice…
It’s a very nice floral spice! But after a very short while I can’t smell it. And at some point it 2016 I reached the tipping point between wanting to find more perfumes I loved, and wanting to be more discriminating because I can neither afford nor accommodate a roomful of bottles. So this one, I offer to the world! :^)
Sorry OB didn’t work for you I quite liked it when I tried it.
I can barely smell Oeillet Bengale, must be anosmic to something in it.
I haven’t yet decided on my SOTD. Today is my last day of “Staycation” and I am drinking my strong Italian coffee while reading this blog. I have more than usual to confess to Donatella and will have to behave the next few months. Happy New Year to all my fellow perfume addicts and may your days be happy, healthy and eventful!
Donatella is prepared to dispense plenty of mercy tomorrow 😉
Musc 25 is my SOTD. I need to get ready to teach tomorrow, so of course I’ve spent my day running errands, going for a run and figuring out a perfume sampling system. It seems like a lot of us have too many samples right now.
You smell amazing!
That was supposed to be “scentful” but obviously spellcheck did not agree. However, eventful is good too.
Rose 31, which I wish I liked less or cost less. Alas!
I vote for costs less 🙂
Morning, all. I’m starting the day slightly grumpy, because the Dakkie cat behaved DREADFULLY this morning! At 4 o’clock he started wailing as though his little heart was breaking, so I got up to investigate. His head was still in place, his legs were unbroken, he had knitted mice and food…I told him he was beautiful, he calmed down and I went back to bed. To sleep, which I rather need to do, but at 4.15, he wailed again, as only a Siamese can. And so on…he escalated his commitment to yelling his head off, actually. We gave up and made a cup of tea at 5, and Dakkie is currently draped over Richard’s leg, purring and looking smug. He has Fuzzy Logic with him (FL has Most Preferred Mouse status). So. What perfume do you choose when you feel cross? I didn’t care, so I randomly applied something by Michael Kor. I can’t remember its name–it’s in a square bottle covered in silver. I quite like it: it’s warm and rather syrupy, and it will do until the grump passes. Hope your days are peaceful and unmarred by the wailing of cats. Or anything else, come to that.
The wailing cat! We had one of those. More like screaming bloody murder. It started when she turned 16 or so and we worried that if anyone in our building heard it, they would assume there was torture going on and call the police. We finally took her to the vet after months of that and turns out she had gone stone deaf! She also had hyperthyroidism and treating that helped somewhat. But there were many sleep interrupted nights…
Hmmm. Dakkie appears to have all his faculties, such as they are, but I’ll be mindful of both deafness and thyroid functions for his mother. Isabella will be 15 in February, and she has a little list of ailments that we take to the specialist every two months for a “blunderbuss” treatment. I’ll have things checked.
Oh dear, I hope Dakkie found what he wanted and tonight is calmer.
I think he got what he wanted, all right–he wanted company! If you could have seen his happy face when we let him into bed. His blue eyes were all slitty and his purr was a real rumble! Dreadful, dreadful cat!
Oh yes, I understand completely! When my kitty girl decides she wants company she sounds as if we are cutting off her paws one by one. It’s a ghastly sound and I can’t sleep through it, so the behavior gets reinforced when I get up and she’s not alone anymore. Then she is perfectly happy and I want to pour my coffee over her head.
LOL 🙂
Ha ha, I love my cats enormously but am glad to hear someone else’s secret desire to do harm! My tiny calico cat Iris has so much will in her little body and INSISTS on sleeping smack in the MIDDLE of my pillow at night. I wake up and shove her to one side and after another hour I wake up and start the process all over again, and she complains and complains.
Ah, yes. My sister had one of those cats. He was an otherwise wonderful kitty who figured that if he was up at 5 a.m., everyone should be up at 5 a.m.
Oh my. Thankful that none of my four(!) do that. Although they do tend to walk all over me and lightly meow if I stay in bed too late. It’s not at all about my company…it’s about FOOD. Ungrateful beasts…although I’m generally the one who feeds them in the morning, they gravitate to my husband for affectionate snuggling….
My Tonkinese used to have wailing fits in the middle of the night too… turns out she would “kill” one of her mice and wail over it to proclaim her hunting prowess. Now I have a small fluffy Papillon dog who likes to sleep on my pillow, suffocating me and occasionally kicking me in the mouth. But I love her to bits and dread the day when she is no longer with me.
Feeling very blah and unmotivated today despite a very urgent writing deadline – as usual! A few minutes on NST is my momentary escape.
Lazily picked out a sample of my box: CD’s Bois d’Argent. Not experienced enough to articulate why, but sense that what I have left of AG’s Sables would complement it nicely.
Meh… Monday…
If it is any consolation,Monday is 3 hours from OVER already,In this part of the world.Lol.
I missed the part about it being National Creampuff day. Maybe my Monday will get better…
SotD is Atelier Vanille Insensee. This was a Sephora freebie with purchase and I must say that I am really liking it! Opens with a note of lime, which really works. I can see going through this travel spray in no time flat!
I’ve tried a handful of the Ateliers and I’ve enjoyed them all, very pretty scents!
It is my favorite Atelier Cologne.Love at first sniff and the first Atelier I ever bought, followed by the odd Rose Anonyme and the juicy Orange Sanguine. They make some really awesome colognes.Silver Iris is on my radar….
Nice! and if you are looking for a full bottle make sure to check the online discounters…they are showing up now for a song!
Here you go! and they sell smaller bottles too 🙂

I am wearing L’Heure Bleue in vintage eau de cologne … It stays very close to skin if compared with the perfume strength. My aim was to stay in bed all day, but I have a restless four year old, so that did not happen:) but I am happy. This year I have realised that for all my love of vintage guerlain I hardly have any of their vintages in my collection, all due to the prices on ebay and perpetual lack of money..so now I am inspired to cheat my common sense and get me some…:)
Angie finds so much fantastic vintage stuff by haunting thrift stores — but I never do.
SotD = Eau des Merveilles, perfect palate refresher after a weekend of “too much.”
Hurrah! EdM will have a Bleue sibling this year:

Time to put away holiday decorations and throw out a few stale holiday food leftovers. I’m a fervent no-waster when it comes to food, but no more holiday treats, please, I am full. I will give the crumbs to the birds on the lawn.
O.M.G!!…can’t wait! Thanks for sharing!!
You smell great.
Wheee! As of December I’ve managed to test all the other Merveilles, so the timing is perfect. Let’s hope EdM Bleue is a winner.
It’s winter, but ” yes to Hermes” anyway 🙂 .
Yes to Hermes! Eau des Merveilles works for me anytime, and especially today when I couldn’t think what to wear.
Wow! It’s Donatella time again already??!!
Once again, I am late to the party. Today is my first official day back at work since November 14th. Our students don’t return until tomorrow, so its a staff development day. I guess its a good way to transition back into the groove of things. The real test will be tomorrow when the kids return.
My SOTD is my favorite scent; Nectarine Blossom & Honey by Jo Malone. I needed something happy to put me into a good mood to make it through the day. Now I’m off to start calculating so I can report in to Donatella tomorrow. 🙂
Love Tawaf! Well, pretty much love anything by AbdesSalaam, I’m wearing Tasneem right now a.k.a. “The Ylang-bomb”!
And I need to try that one! He is amazing but hard to get samples.
Yeah I know. Last year I bought his coffret of 6 small bottles of my choice for $90.US in the wooden box. Which ended up being a great deal.
Lazy and feeling my age today. We joined friends at the GB Packers bar last night, where I stood watching the game until I scored the arm of a couch on which to perch for the second half. Got home late, then stayed up until 2 am… Glad it is raining.
The review of the Aedes scent reminded me of a small decant of Cashmere Mist from. My sister, so I just sprayed that. Perfect for today.
Your age is probably less than mine if you made it to 2am 😉
This morning we had a tremendous storm that blew through with heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. I saw a gigantic lightning bolt strike the ocean water about one mile out and really jumped. It began to clear around noon and is now gorgeous, sunny, with clear blue skies and almost no humidity. Many people and dogs are out enjoying the beach and my mother and I are here baking inside–she’s doing brownies and me cookies. We’ve been invited to a party this evening where a neighbor will be serving gumbo. Today we packed up all the Christmas ornaments and so on. It’s always a bit sad especially since I never know whether there will be more Christmases with my elderly mother. I am wearing some from my decant of Francis Kurdjian Oud Satin Mood. It’s wonderfully creamy and not very oud-y and seems nice and calm in a happy way.
What a beautiful day! love thosemkinds of storms, especially if they are done quickly.
SOTD = Cuir Beluga
SOTE = Jo Loves Pomelo
Last full day in London! We finally made it to the last remaining police box in London! We had a tour of Spencer House and Tate Modern, including the special exhibit of Elton John’s photo collection. We capped off the day with dinner at Oxo, the rooftop restaurant at Harvey Nichols. Oh, and a correction to yesterday’s account – the High Tea was at Bentley London and not the Belvedere.
We leave London tomorrow. I’ve had a wonderful 5 days here and I’m looking forward to my next adventure!
Safe travels home!!!
Sounds great!
Have a good flight home!
I am super low-energy as my wrist heals. So I’ve been heating and icing today. Did a few errands, made banana bread, and just played on the computer all day. Tomorrow I go back to work, and not looking forward to it.
Wearing Dries Van Noten for Frederic Malle today. It’s not bad, but feels a bit generic. Not a scrubber, but I also don’t imagine I’ll use up this sample.
I usually do testing on weekends/days off, but since it’s the last day before going to work, I decided to do my grocery shopping wearing Amouage Dia. I really like this perfume and think that it gets less attention than it deserves.
