Happy last Friday of 2016! Our community project for today: wear one of your favorite fragrance releases of 2016.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I will be in Galop d'Hermès over Tauer Perfumes Rose Delight Body Oil.
Reminder: 1/6 will be Take it down a notch Friday — wear a perfume that has a bad reputation because people wore way too much of it back in the day. Go ahead and wear it lightly, or go loud and proud, you'll get points either way. Suggested by Bear.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Hi all! Wearing Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions today. I don’t think incense is listed in the notes but it reminds me of Parfums d’Empire Wazamba, with a stronger apple note. Good news since I finished my decant of Wazamba this year. Enjoy your day!
You too!
Slow Explosions is good stuff!! Do you get some sort of apple brandy/boozy note? It’s an apple scent that I’ve smelled many times before, but can’t put my finger (nose?) on it!
Yes, and apple isn’t something I usually go for in perfume but this smells great.
Hi Robin we are sort of twins, I am wearing Tauer Perfumes Une Rose Chypree over Tauer Perfumes Amber Flush Body oil. Both, and the Rose Delight Body Oil among my favourites this year (ofcoure Une Rose Chypree was released before 2016, but I discovered it this year).
Short question to those who have Amber Flush Body Oil, or know its scent, is any of the Tauer fragrances smelling like this body oil and if yes, which one?
I hope your choice of today means your cold has left!
Hey cousin!
Amber Flush smells pretty much like Amber Flash, to me — it’s a pretty straightforward amber.
Thanks Isabella!
In Tauer Rose Delight Body Oil. A very good release this year. Beautiful, affordable and long lasting. Love it!
Ditto — hope he will keep on with the body oils.
How is the texture of the oil?
Great texture, absorbs nicely.
Gorgeous texture. It glides on beautifully.
Thanks! Good to hear.
I’m wearing Tauer today as well – au cour du desert. Definitely one of my favorite perfumes this year, and I also love the rose and amber body oils.
That’s one of the few new scents I’ve tried! You smell good!
I love that one, too.
Lovely!
I may have more than one backup bottle stashed away… 😉
I just made up my mind: Before my 2017 “No Buy with Very Limited Exceptions” rule, I’m ordering the Rose Delight oil today! It’s not 2017 quite yet…. 🙂 Luckyscent, here I come!
you should grab the Amber Flush too. It is a very nice amber.
Not that I am enabling or anything….
I find your logic sound.
Just ordered the Rose and Amber oils, his two new soaps and a sample of Au Coeur du Desert which will all count for 2016 still.
I too need to employ “No Buy with Very Limited Exceptions” rule for 2017 as well.
SOTD is L’Artisan Parfumeur Passage d’Enfer. Best of…1999! I just discovered it!!! How could that be? I nursed the sample along until my FB arrived yesterday. It’s even better sprayed. I’m impressed by the new L’Artisan box and bottle designs–much nicer in person than in photos. Happy New Year Robin and all the NST gang!
Congrats on your new / old bottle!
This is one of my favorite discoveries of the year as well! My husband bought me a bottle for Christmas. Glad I’m not the only one who’s 17 years behind . . .
Yay! You must be better, Robin, if you are wearing two fragrances today 🙂
As much as I adore all Dame Perfumery offerings I discovered Dame in 2015.
My surprise discovery this year was Berdoues Grand Cru collection…thus far the four bottles I have bought as gifts are so lovely…today I stole a few spritzed of a family member’s Vanira Moorea…this was a blind buy but I took a chance as I knew she loved vanilla…wow! by far my favorite of the bunch 🙂
Happy New Year to all NSTers!!!!!!
Well, admittedly I am not wearing it just yet, but I will be shortly! And yes, much better, but still feeling far more run down than I would have expected by now. Do not get this bug, that’s my advice!
I am in Hermes too – Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate.
Hey cousin!
You smell great- on my list.
Had intended to wear some of my recently acquired Rose Green sample this evening when out for dinner with friends – it’s my birthday tomorrow & dinner usually morphs into a late night with much wine & a bottle of fizz & cake at midnight to celebrate the occasion (& tomorrow is a ‘big’ birthday to boot). However, have had to cancel as I woke up this morning with no voice, very sore throat & a temperature! Currently back in bed, with laptop & water, feeling just a tad fed up.
I hope you feel better soon. Happy birthday!
Thank you so much – am a great deal better today.
Oh, no! I hope you feel better soon. Strep has been going around lately. Happy Birthday to you and hope you can enjoy the day anyway.
Many thanks – am feeling much better today, but it’ll be a quiet one.
Feel better Carolyn!! Happy Birthday!! REST REST REST, and HYDRATE! 🙂
Thank you, JadainGA – have indeed rested & am always conscious of hydration, which may stretch to some wine this evening.
Oh no! Hope you feel better in time for your birthday and get to enjoy that cake and bubbly!
No such luck, Isabella, but thank you – I am much better today but had to forgo the cake & fizz.
Feel better soon. Have a happy and Healthy birthday!
Thank you, Wendysue.
Oh dear, I hope you recover very quickly! Have a happy birthday, even if it’s a quiet night in.
Thank you, am much better today, but it will be a quiet night in, though with some wine!
Happy Birthday! Wishing you enough healing today to enjoy your day tomorrow!
Thank you so much.
Happy Birthday, and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!
Thank you, & all the best to you too for 2017.
Oh no, how sad to be sick on your birthday. Hope it clears up quickly!
Thank you, I think it has, as I am feeling much better today.
I hope you’ll feel better for your birthday and New Year celebration.
Thank you, it’ll be a quiet one.
Happy early birthday wishes! Hopefully you will be able to celebrate.
Thank you; selection of wine currently chilling, so I’ll see what I feel like in due course.
Can’t remember what I have tried this year that is new and can’t get to my spreadsheet so Stash reigns supreme. It gets the award for most worn and easiest release in any case.
Twins!
Guerlain L’Heure Bleue. I know its not from this year (or this century), but it turned really cold here and I put my purple, soft, comfortable sweater on this morning, and L’Heure Bleue just seemed like the perfect match.
I’m also drinking a cup of Guerlain Paris Caprice tea this morning.
Hey, when a perfume is as great as LHB, who the heck cares?! Your sweater does sound like a perfect match.
My only options were Néroli Doré, the only 2016 release that I’ve got a bottle of, or Myths Woman (2 samples).
It’s cold here today, and I wanted to wear something warming so I chose my wonderful Beloved instead.
Tea is a gorgeous Assam, Duflating Superior FTGFOP1, and I had some MF Phénix this morning.
Good choice–you smell wonderful!
SOTD is Parfum d’Empire “Aziyadé”, which on me works as a spicy citrus amber. Somehow I stop smelling it quite quickly after application, although the other Mr Koenigsberg assures me it’s still there. And while it is, it’s great. :^)
I got something like Juicy Fruit gum from Aziyade, and I never could decide if I liked that or not!
I have spent the year mostly not shopping for perfume, so I have few options. I bought a bottle of Hyacinth and a Mechanic from Andy when he came through town, but it was technically a rerelease, so does that count? In any case, not sure it would play well at the gym this morning (although the greasiness would blend in with some of the more oderific gym members!), so I am going to go scentless for the time being.
I *did* buy a bottle of Lys 41 while I was in LA, which I realized was silly since I had to pay sales tax down there. So, I guess I spent $19 to have my name inscribed on the bottle. I could play longer in Le Labo, I discovered. More so than usual, I discovered that the scents were quite different on my skin than on the blotters, so clearly more sampling must be done! Maybe after the wedding. 🙂
I have samples of Ylang 49, Neroli 36, Ambrette 9 and Santal 33 I will gladly send you. When I discovered niche a few years ago, I fell hard for Labdanum 18 and quickly ordered more Le Labo’s to try. They are all well done scents, but alas just not for me. My email is p k wisdom (one word) and my home is yahoooo.
If you take them off my hands, it will make room for more samples????
Well, only if I’d be doing you a favor. 😉
You would!????
I have been pining to know what this one smells like?
Is it a dirty greasy, or a foodie type ( Like Slumberhouse Pear and Olive)??
I assume you mean Hyacinth and a Mechanic? It is not gourmade grease nor is it dirty like greasy hair. It is a very literal interpretation the “mechanic” part of the fragrance–like an auto shop with motor oil and a touch of maybe terpentine or another solvent. Like other Tauer creations, this scent morphs quite a lot as it dries down. On me, this “greasy” stage is front and center in the top notes for the first 15-30 minutes. As it dries down, the hyacinth becomes more dominant. Eventually, it hums along as an oddly warm, comfy thing, neither strictly or noticeably grease nor hyacinth, but with both notes discernible if you look for them.
Am I remembering correctly that you are in Europe somewhere? If so, maybe you can convince Andy to get you a sample. If you are in the States, I would be happy to send a little your way.
Thank you. I am Canadian though, and that usually involves a lot more work than people want to do for a sample. I appreciate the thought though.
Well bother. I have some Canadian friends I am lucky enough to visit now and again. Maybe some muling can be done down the road. 🙂
That would be a lot of fun. Thank you
I had several favorite of 2016 options today including Vanilla Hinoki, Au Coeur du Desert, and my beloved Parfums Quartana Hemlock, but went with SHL 777 Taklamakan which is warming in this cold, sunny day today.
I love Au Coeur du Desert. For me it is more wearable than L’Air du Desert Marocain.
I prefer it t to LADDM myself.
Elisa P., just wanted you to know that I love the Rose Delight Body Oil. Wearing it today. 🙂
Yay! It’s so easy to like, it seems.
Waring Baptême du feu today, from a manufacturer sample. It’s gorgeous and dense, more opaque than usual for SL. Do I need it though? It fills a similar spot that I’m filling with Hermes Eau de Mandarine Ambre. All lovely work.
I was all set to wear Galop, too, then opted at the last minute for Vert des Bois. Both are so, so good — I’ll have to wear Galop tomorrow. And for bedtime tonight, I intend to wear Geisha Vanilla Hinoki, which has been in heavy rotation ’round these parts for much of 2016.
VdB was my favorite of the Verts.
Oh, but now that I’ve had more of a chance to recollect what was released in 2016, I should have worn L’Attessa! Le swoon!!
SOTD is Rose Delight Body Oil by Andy Tauer.
Wanted Elisa P. to know that I really like it. It’s scented enough to wear by itself. I may dab a rose-scented fragrance on later on today, but right now, its all I need. 🙂
SotD is No 5 L’eau. I actually ordered myself a small bottle of this one. While I can appreciate the masterpiece that is the original, wearing it is just not for me. This one is so pretty and easy to wear. I think it will work well in the spring too.
No. 5 L’eau is so easy to love.
I didn’t think I needed another No. 5 since I love and own the EDP and Premiere, but one sampling of it, and I purchased a large bottle.
It’s VERY easy to wear, and quite pretty! I just feel that this is more a warm weather type of scent- with heat this would be just about perfect.
It is lovely. And appropriate for all situations and ages!
Twins! It’s so easy to wear I think it works year-round. It’ll be interesting to see how quickly I go through my small bottle.
What great lists! So many to sample…so little time and money! 🙂
That said, my personal collection grew exponentially this year. I tried SO MANY samples, and bought more than my fair share of goodies all over the place. I bought older scents, new ones, bargains, and even splurged a time or two….
My favorite release of 2016 that I purchased, and my SOTD, has to be Lovely Sheer! My favorite that is on the short list for my next purchase is Angel Muse.
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!! It’s a joy to visit here everyday and share our passion for scent!
You smell …well, lovely! 🙂
Happy Eve before New Year’s Eve!
1) In the office and have wrapped up all reports and all lab books. YES!
2) Am wearing SJP Stash Elixir. Just a wonderful well priced fragrance oil. I love the EDP of this but the Elixirs allows greater staying power and the ability to scent your hair without any damage. This also plays nicely with any sweet or floral scents you have, giving those scents a grounding depth. My favorite release from this year and accessible to many to boot.
3) Coffee, yogurt, a bit of bircher muesli and a nice podcast at the desk!
Stash is sooooo good!! Will have to try the oil! We both smell like SJP today… 🙂
I keep hearing such wonderful things about it. Cannot wait till I can get it in Canada
I think you will like it a lot!
Hee! Yes we do! Think of Stash as the masculine tinged ‘flipside’ of Lovely. They mesh beautifully together! (I have spray an old bottle of Lovely on top of Stash- PERFECTION)
I will try that tonight!!! I better SJP does it herself, all the time! 🙂
My purchases would be amazingly restrained if I could limit myself to only the current year’s releases. Perhaps someday I’ll get there.
The only 2016 releases that I tried, liked, and bought were: Elizabeth & James Nirvana Bourbon; L’Occitane Ambre (reissue); Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir. SOTD is Nirvana Bourbon.
Itching to try Neela Vermeire Rahele though, now that it is almost available!
Whoops. Also bought Hiram Green Dilettante.
And intend to buy Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate at some point. Mayble also Vilhelm Purple Fig.
I’ve been curious about Neroli Outrenoir and would love to hear your take on it!
Neroli and vanilla, not too sweet. (Kafka I’m not)
Haha.Your last thought made me smile….
:)))
…aaaaand I bought a travel spray of Zoologist Macaque. You see my problem with restraint, right?
um, in the interests of full disclosure, bought Mugler Woodissime too.
????Pixel, I love your list! Confession is good for the soul, and you are among friends here. Enjoy your fun stash.
Oh dear,is it time for Donatella already again??Haha!
I’m with you 100% on your choices. I haven’t bought any yet, but Neroli is calling my name for this summer!
You smell great. Isn’t it nice to have affordable options?
It is! The Zoologist travel spray is 11ml, and the Guerlain is 20ml. They feel like quite responsible purchases 🙂
Oh! Almost forgot, the E&J Nirvana Bourbon purchase was a rollerball – 10ml. See what a grownup I am!!
(We’ll slide right past the absurd 80ml of Woodissime…)
Nirvana Bourbon is definitely on my list of this year’s favorites too!
I’m wearing Myths – I only discovered it in December and that’s my second time wearing it, but I’m really liking it. I wasn’t really expecting to, but I think it’s beautifully done and very sophisticated. And an interesting direction for Amouage.
Tea is Kusmi Kashmir Tchai, for several days in a row.
I almost wore Myths today too. It’s such a great scent. You smell lovely!
Thank you! I’m sniffing my wrist now and it does indeed smell lovely.
That Kusmi is yummy.
It is! I always want it to be stronger, but otherwise it’s wonderful.
I’m wearing Myths as well: while I do not think it fits the current weather/time of the year, it’s one of a few 2016 perfumes that I liked and bought (though just a decant, not a FB). I think it’s a very beautiful perfume, and I look forward to wearing it in Spring. I welcome this perfume in the Amouage collection because most of my favorites I can wear only during the colder season.
Yes, exactly – it does give Amouge lovers more range and options. Plus I think might be appreciated by some who don’t usually care for the brand. Needless to say, you smell great.
We both do 🙂
I’m wearing Arbole Arbole on the left arm and Dilettante on the right. I bought a travel size of Shangri La, although it’s an older release. MFK Grand Soir is another favorite. Andy Tauer continues to drain my account, now with lovely soaps.
Thanks to the great NST community for sharing all of their insights on fragrance, life, family, literature, tea, and cuisine all year.
As of this week, I own at least a travel spray of all Hiram Green fragrances ????
Wow so many great posts today already! I love hearing about what people got this year. If I were still in Massachusetts I would put on a dab of Salome, although I can’t remember if it was released this year or in 2015. But alas I just have my four decants so nothing to report tonight.
Have a happy wonderful, safe New Years everyone!
I had a hard time remembering which scents came out this year. My SOTD is Love In A Mist by Prov. Perfume. A pretty peppery meadow floral. I bought a 5ml decant. It’s nice to be reminded of spring this time of year.
I’m another Tauer fan today – my favorite release this year was Lonesome Rider. Nothing else even came close. It’s almost too good a perfume, because it takes me back immediately to where I grew up and the feelings of youth (good and bad), and it just makes me homesick and nostalgic. But, oh, it haunts me.
I’m wearing Galop d’Hermes, too! I don’t know if it’s my favorite (apparently there were a bunch of things I liked that came out this year), but it’s still won me over completely.
Ok, you guys are making me really want to try Galop. I’m blessed to live where there is a Hermes boutique…but that place is *daunting* Very little gives me pause; I’ll have to get over it and go for Galop and Neroli Dore that gets so much love. I’m nosy to see how you guys smell????
I used to be afraid of the Hermes boutique, but it turns out ours (Vancouver) is staffed by a down-to-earth and gregarious fellow who was only too happy to spray us with things and chat.
Galop didn’t wow me, but it was much sweeter on me than I expected.
What I love about Galop is that I can really only smell two things in it: rose and leather, and to my nose they’re in a perfect and harmonious balance such that they create an accord that’s greater than the sum of its parts (like chocolate+coffee!). It’s elegant and voluptuous, at the same time.
My list would include Zadig&Voltaire for cheap and cheerful.
My personal love /discovery:Amouage Journey.
Surprised I liked: vierge de fer
Haven’t tried but most wanted : the Amouage Bracken (both)
Made me smile : Artists Studio, Poison Girl (nice drydown)
Biggest loser:Prada femme
Most grateful for : Hermes epice marine… 3cheers for perfume
3 cheers indeed!
And 3 spritzes!
This video of Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher (the first in the linked article) – don’t watch it without Kleenex or Puffs at hand:

Well scroll down further, and see David Bowie watching George Michael rehearse Somebody to Love with the remaining Queen squad, for a tribute to Freddie Mercury after his death!Goosebumps!!
Yes, you’re right!
I did not sample much in 2016 and consequently didn’t buy much issued this year. That said, I did purchase Stash, Dilettante (I split it here, thanks!), Hermes Rhubarb, and Amber Flush oil. But I have 10 samples in my Luckyscent cart that I gleaned from the “Best of 2016” lists. Today I’m wearing Stash.
Stash is a winner. 🙂
Going with my fave of 2016: Dilettante. I’m so happy for Hiram Green, he makes exceptional perfume and seems to have made a big splash out here is perfumeland.
Wearing Ella from my bottle that just arrived yesterday. Really wanted to wear Adjatay but that is no way work appropriate
He’s home! He came home yesterday after all! I’m so happy! And, by a happy coincidence, I had baked him him some peanut brownies (that’s not an American brownie; it’s a crisp biscuit –cookie– flavoured with cocoa and strewn with roasted peanuts) so the house smelt all homey and welcoming.
And now, let me recover some middle-aged decorum….my SOTD is Galop. It’s not actually my favourite purchase of the year, but it’s definitely my favourite purchase released in 2016, and I do love it. In fact, I’m wearing it right now, and I just offered my wrist to the dear one for his opinion, which was: “Not Beloved, but it’ll do.” That’s engineer-speak for “I really rather like that!”
Favourite purchase of the year: Ambre Narguile. Second equal: Misia, 22, and Vanille Galante. Oh, and everything else, except the By Kilian perfumes. Compared with the dancing lights of the Hermes and Chanels, By Kilian now seems a bit solemn and self-conscious and trying-very-hard-to-be-special. Biggest surprise: Carnal Flower. I need An Occasion to wear it, red lippy and my midnight blue sequins. Biggish wedding anniversary approaches fast: maybe then.
I’m just nipping into the other room now to make sure he really is home…finish this horrible year with a blade, NST. Make the last day count!
Ack! I did NOT mean “blade”! Blast! I meant to say, finish the year with a blast, though when I parse that literally, it’s really no better!
Let me start again. Do something wonderful and exciting and unforgettable for the last day of thus below-average year! Be happy and well.
I thought “finish this horrible year with a blade” was most appropriate. Freudian, perhaps? 😉
Yes,me too!I’ll take the blade option as well.Haha!!Just kidding.Blast it will be.
No, I think finishing off 2016 (not oneself) with a blade is appropriate. Take sword to it!
Happy New Year!
Happy new year!!! Peace, love and perfume!
Yo! And you! And time to research and think and write and walk and sniff…all good things to you, Kanuka.
Carnal Flower really is wonderful isn’t it? I splurged on the bath gel and the body butter ( shockingly expensive, but fantastic scent and so moisturizing) . I layered both + EDP for bed last night. Even the puppy glared a bit at that overdose. I wear it with a red lip and with no makeup+ sweats + bedhead. It just plain makes me smile.
I love your style! I wonder if I could pull that look off…goodness knows, I can barely do anything with my hair other than bedhead!
There certainly were lots of *interesting* releases this year, but I never got around to trying most of them either. The ones I did try, I’m already over. So, wearing Nest Indigo, which was a great discovery I made in 2016. Does that count?
Of course, it does! I think it’s even more precious: discovering something that isn’t hyped about any longer. Enjoy it!
My favorite of the year and most worn is L’Attesa, hands down. I also love all three of the Paul Schutze perfumes, although they may have been released in 2015.
L’Attesa is lovely. It’s on my wish list for a FB. I’ve gone through my three samples of it, which is my way to judge FB worthiness. You smell fantastic.
L’Attesa does sound wonderful–I’m definitely putting it on my to-try list–and I have never even heard of Paul Schutze. Off to search the internets.
I don’t think I have even a sample of anything released during 2016, so no points for me today. SOTD is L’Artisan Coeur de Vetiver Sacre, a review of which I stumbled across while going through the best-of lists this morning. Had bought a FB a couple of years ago because I loved wearing it at bedtime, and then discovered So Many Other Delights that I forgot I had it. I quite like it for daytime wear, even now, but I’ll bet it will be in regular rotation come spring (which, seriously, can’t come soon enough for me).
Wearing my favorite favorite of the year, smellbent The Artist’s Studio.Underrated abstract scent,I am in love.Yeah it is awesome to smell of roses, violets and heliotrope, sometimes one needs a scent that doesn’t make sense…lol.Concrete, wet paint,a freshly painted oil-on-canvas.Artist’s Studio.Happy weekend all!And have a safe and happy New Years’Eve!!xo
Fun! You are putting me to shame, as Smell Bent is located about an hour’s drive from me, and I have only tried one of them.
That info makes me jealous!!I am two weeks via airmail from them!!Lol.x
Happily contemplating what to wear tonight, both clothes and perfume, we’re going to a small gathering at a friends’ house – I’m always on the lookout for any excuse to get dressed up 🙂
I think I only made one purchase this year that was actually released in 2016, Night Flower by Eris Parfums, but bought lots of others that were new to me. I love all of the far-more-than-I-had-planned-to-buy purchases, but absolute favourites might be Trayee and Tobacco Vanille.
And I still have time to squeeze in one more purchase for 2016 – I have some vouchers for our local department store and that would make Tom Ford a bit more affordable. I’ve had my eye on Plum Japonais for years, but have now been distracted by Noir de Noir. I’d tried a dabber sample and wondered what the fuss was about, but now I’ve tried spraying it, and it’s lovely. I’m having trouble deciding, which is a nice problem to have.
Aha! Plum Japonais is more versatile, but really, down here in the rabbit hole, who cares about versatility? It’s not as though we have just the one perfume that has to take us to many occasions. Buy the one that gives you piles of joy!
Gaynor, have a great night tonight and the best possible of years in 2017. The same dish applies to the whole of NST, of course!
Happy New Year to you, Waterdragon and Kanuka! You will get to ring it in first. 🙂 You can’t go wrong with either of those Tom Fords.
A big thumbs-up to Robin and everyone who is wearing Galop today: you smell great!
My 2016 choice for today: N°5 L’Eau. Although I’ve only sniffed a fraction of this year’s releases, I think it’s pretty safe to say this is one of the best, even if it isn’t an entirely new scent.
Have a wonderful weekend/New Year, everyone!!!
The L’Eau top notes are perfect. You smell lovely.
SotD = Hiris in house solidarity with a few other NSTers today. I bought it this year, so perhaps a half point for today’s challenge.
I’m also huffing the remnants of Nirvana Bourbon from a blotter, it is so nice I’ve sampled it twice.
Nirvana Bourbon is very huffable!
For me, today’s challenge is very similar to one from a few week’s ago – I believe it was, your favorite fragrance purchase of 2016 – and that would be Dame Chocolate Man. But since I wore that one then, today I’ll join those of you wearing Tauer Au Cour du Desert. I have only a sample of this but like it very much, not sure if this one or the original L’Air is my favorite.
Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy 2017! May all your perfume dreams come true!
Thanks, you too! I will join you tonight in ACDD.
Thank you, and I think I speak for most of us when I say, those are big dreams, and there are plenty of them.
And a wonderful 2017 to you, too!
After a year-and-a-bit of romping through tons of niche scents, I returned to the houses of Dior, Chanel and Guerlain in the last few months of 2016. Purchases have been many, and expensive ( Gulp – a large bottle of Coromandel EDT – last one in Toronto). Today, I am wearing Beige, which smells like lovely musky flowers on me.
Beige is beautiful, you smell great. And thanks for the reminder of the treasures at traditional perfume counters. 😉
I like Beige but usually I have an urge to wear it in Spring and Fall, it’s not a winter scent for me. But you smell great!
The honey pops in the cold.
My 2016 fav releases (which I sampled) are Neroli Outrenior, Nirvana Bourbon, N5 L’Eau, MFK Petit Matin, Norell Elixir, and Midnight Patchouli. I submitted to the wiles of Petit Matin, but I think I will eventually cave in to all the others at some point.
Sotd is Norell Elixir. If you happen to see it, I encourage you to try it.
*Moonlight Patchouli
My grammar is on holiday ????
All good choices. I have to revisit my Moonlight Patchouli sample…I think I got more musk than patchouli on that one. Haven’t tried the Norell Elixir but I will keep my eyes peeled for it.
I don’t super keep up on the new releases, but am happy to have fallen for Hiram Green this year, as previously the only house I had a serious affection for was Le Labo. I also accept that all chanels smell weird on me, I’ll keep my eyes peeled at every thrift for future swaps, and will look to buy less and trade more in the coming year.
Hopefully it will be filled with more happiness and accomplishment and peace than the year before.
I feel your pain. A lot of the Hermes/Jean-Claude Ellena just scents don’t work on/for me.
I forgot the project of the day this morning in my fervor to finish SL La Myrrhe, which I doused myself heavily in. When that dies down, I will put on a spritz of Au Coeur du Désert. It was a good perfume year all in all. Love the Tauer body oils and Hyacinth & a Mechanic as well as Arbole Arbole and Taklamakan and Vanille Hinoki.
I didn’t buy anything released in 2016 but I’m wearing Angel Muse from a sample. I will be considering a small bottle of it. I hadn’t thought much about it, but as my husband and I were walking to Trader Joe’s (a little over a mile away) I got a whiff of something that was very nice. I had forgotten I’d put on Muse, so I was trying to figure out what it was that smelled so good….
We are drinking Mariage Freres Noel blue tea, which I gave my husband for Christmas. It’s blue!
Agree on the Angel Muse…wore a bit from my sample this past week and am still liking it.
The brewed tea is actually blue? That would be very cool.
It is blue, which kind of threw my husband…
I texted my sister telling her it was the same blue as the milk-like beverage Aunt Beru serves Luke in the first Star Wars movie. Geek that she is, she knew exactly what I meant!
Been on vacation from work (where I do most my posting 😉 ) and haven’t posted in a while…
In Botrytis today which is lovely but a bit too much honey for my nose.
Just ordered the rose and amber oils and new soaps from Tauer b/c it is still 2016 per JadainGA’s great logic….tomorrow I shall be in no buy zone…but tomorrow is not yet today…or something like that… 😉
Right. 🙂 Get those 2016 purchases in before the no buy starts, that’s my motto!
There is no arguing with that logic.
SOTD = TM Angel Muse. It was a toss-up between that, L’Envol de Cartier, and E&J Nirvana Rose. It was too cold today for Neroli Dore, or it would have been on the “pick list” as well.
All of those have made it on to my Full Bottle wishlist. Now if only some of them came in 20 or 30 mL sizes.
I like the Nirvana Rose. At first sniff I liked the Bourbon one, but I’m quite taken with the Rose. I wish Muse came in a travel size.
Yes! I totally would get a Muse rollerball or travel spray. Same with the L’Envol… no way does 50 or 100 mL make any sense for me.
Quick check-in from London —
SOTD = SDV
We spent the morning in Shoreditch to look at street art, London’s equivalent of Williamsburg, Brooklyn in terms of artsy fartsy and neighborhood housing prices going through the roof! At the British Museum, I smelled Portrait of a Lady in the wild but I kept thinking that it was someone in my group because it kept moving along with my group of 11 people and I surreptitiously smelled a few of them up close but so far I had not sussed out who it was; there’s always tomorrow. This evening, we went to see a pre-Broadway slapstick farce “The Play That Goes Wrong” at the very tiny Duchess Theatre. I understand that it will make its Broadway debut in March 2017 but my opinion is that its run won’t be long. I enjoyed it but the script and the acting need a lot of polishing.
I won’t make it to Jo Loves or Perfume H but gasp, I may have to contend myself with Harrods on Saturday.
Happy New Year everyone!
Have fun at Harrods! I am looking forward to stopping in there when I visit London in June. I could get lost in the food halls for days.
You should probably leave your wallet at the hotel 😉
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! Harrod’s seems to have a lot of exclusives, so there should certainly be something to content yourself with.
Enjoy Harrod’s! And Happy New Year!
How’s that fog?? It looks pretty serious. Yay for the BM–that’s my old ‘hood (and antiquity’s my thang)!
Have fun at Harrod’s, and have a happy New Year!
Have a wonderful new year in London! Looking forward to the Harrods report.
I had to skim all the best-of lists to remember what actually came out in 2016, because I am usually a few (or a dozen) years behind on new releases, but I really like, and had a sample of, Tom Ford Vert d’Encens. I had a sniff of all three Verts at Nordstrom, because I couldn’t remember what I’d read about them, and got a sample of this one. If I had remembered, I probably wouldn’t have tried it. I don’t really get fir or pine, notes that are usually very sharp and unpleasant to wear for me. It opens with a very earthy greenness that reminds me of Olympic Orchids Sonnet XVII. The incense gradually becomes more and more prominent, and the base becomes a bit warm and sweet, and slightly animalic–honey, maybe, although I haven’t seen it listed as a note. It has good lasting power, too. Overall, both interesting and pretty easy to wear. Too pricy for me, but maybe someone will do a split.
Speaking of too pricy, Le Labo is now at Nordstrom–not at my local store, but at the big fancy South County one. (Please disregard if this has already been discussed here.)
My Most Disappointing of 2016 was Diptyque Eau des Sens. I’m pretty sure musk anosmia is responsible for most of my disappointment, but even what I could smell wasn’t particularly interesting or delightful. It reminded me of Yves Rocher Citrus Flower, which is about one-seventh of the price. So far, Penhaligon’s Orange Blossom is my favorite orange blossom scent, slightly edging out Lorenzo Villoresi Dilmun.
Happy New Year to everyone, and best wishes for a wonderful 2017.
I forgot to do this challenge (foolishly spraying on “Bohemian Spice” with wild abandon this morning) so I will do it tomorrow. Maybe that’s fitting as it’ll be the last day of 2016. As far as I remember I only have two from 2016 to choose from, Amouage Myths Woman and Hinoki Vanilla. Will have to see what suits the weather and my mood tomorrow morning.
It is never foolish to spray on a beloved perfume with wild abandon. (Unless maybe said perfume is more suited to sober dabbing.) There was a lot of love for Myths Woman today. Interesting.
