Happy National Cat Day! And a quick PSA: our Ferragamo giveaway is still open.
We're doing our usual open thread. Talk about anything you like — the perfume you’re wearing today, your cat's favorite fragrance, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Sotd = Eau des Merveilles because Saturday.
Hurray for National Cat Day! Cats deserve a day off from their hard work keeping the internet up and running.
Ha! So true.
????
You smell great! One of my favs, easy to reach for, easy to wear!
What would the internet be without cats! 🙂
Pumpkin cat! In Chamade today, a vintage EDT from maybe the 1980s.
Oooh, nice!
I just wanted to say that I tried Balenciaga Rumba the other day for the first time and I am impressed, I have never smelled anything like it, it is definitely a loud fragrance so I didn’t wear it today since my days consists of going to a church Bazaar but I would wear it when I go out dancing salsa, it will be perfect for that, instead I am wearing Balenciaga Prélude which I love.
Orange Sanguine…which bloomed beautifully in yoga this morning….I forgot how much I love this one and how happy it makes me every time I wear it….I really do need to wear it more often……
Orange Sanguine is a wonderful scent. You and your yoga space smell great.
I’ve been using up a decant of Guerlain Cologne du 68. Its similarity to another fragrance keeps nagging at the edge of my brain. I think it’s Orange Sanguine. Must wear both this weekend to see if you’ve solved the mystery. 🙂
I usually save this one for summer but the weather was nasty cold this morning and I needed a mental pick me up and Orange Sanguine really did the trick…I think I might start wearing it in the winter…..
All those spices make me think of a pomander (the clove-studded orange variety) which I associate with Christmas, so it’s always been a winter scent for me.
Have you burned the Pomander Diptyque candle? That one is so nice for Christmastime.
I love Atelier Cologne but Orange Sanguine is one of their perfumes that never worked on my skin
I know you are a big fan of Atelier…wonder why Orange Sanguine doesn’t work? Does Cedrat Enivrant work? Because that one seems similar……
Yes, Cedrat is okay. Orange gets weirdly plastickey on me
Hi lucasai, I get the plastic smell at the far end of Orange Sanguine, too, and sometimes from Cedrat Enivrant as well. I’ve wondered if those odd notes have something to do with the longevity Atelier is known for. It’s not a problem if I apply more of the scent, and I like the top notes enough to make that sacrifice. 🙂
You could try Blood Oranges by Shay & Blue as an alternative. They’re very similar.
I’m using my Saturday off waiting for a guy to come who possibly, maybe will fix the problem with my plumbing. This has been a week long nightmare. Please keep all fingers crossed. Today I put on Narciso EDP. I am wondering if anyone here can tell me more about the Poudree version? The edt seemed a little thin for me.
I tried the Poudrée, but as the name implies, it was powdery and I am not big on powder. It was not any heavier than the edp on me though.
Oh, good luck with the plumbing! I just had to have my water heater replaced yesterday – no fun at all. At least you smell terrific. Love Narciso. Haven’t tried the Poudree yet.
Good luck with the repair! My fingers are crossed for you. Water issues are the worst.
The poudree struck me as being flatter than the EDP, or like a sufficated version of the EDP…powdery, like Cazaubon says. I liked the EDP best and the EDT and Poudree not so much.
In total agreement on it being flatter. To me the EDT is very close to the EDP but with the lush floral heart replaced by one that’s lighter and fresher. The Poudree is like the EDP with the floral heart completely excised and it wears very flat on my skin. I love powder and was hoping to love this one but it just doesn’t do anything for me. Very disappointing as I absolutely love the other 2.
Thanks for the info everyone! I guess no crisis blind buy for me today. Still no resolution on the plumbing, sigh…..
Hello Robin, hello NST!
Inspired by a review of MFK Petit Matin that Robin posted last week I got a hold of a sample and been testing it today. It’s nice, crisp and clean and easy to wear.
But the fact is that I’m really lusting over Grand Soir. I got a sample of this one too & as curious as I am I sprayed a little bit on top of my arm and man, instant love and swoon. I think I might be needing to buy a bottle of this one!
Haha! Join the Gran Soir Lust Club, my friend ????
I might just do that!
Are we scent twins or what? I’m in the Grand Soir Lust Club as well!
Yes we ARE! Technically I’m in Petit Matin and Grand Soir is just my side scent today 😉
Sounds great, can’t wait to try it myself.
Hope you have a great experience discovering it
I am glad I only liked one of them 🙂
I definitely like Grand Soir more. I can live without Petit Matin 😉
My plan is to live without either of them!
Wearing CSP Amour de Cacao again on my way out the door to work. Tis the season!
Had problems with the Tauer website yesterday and accidentally ordered 2 bottles of Amber Body Oil. Whoopsie! Donatella, I have been very very bad!
Happy weekend to all
Body oils don’t count.
I knew I could count on you! You’re great for my guilty conscience ????
Ha! ha! I almost posted something yesterday about you not purchasing but kept my mouth shut 🙂 I am also on a no buy but I am living vicariously through all of you !!!!
I’ll send you my “accidental” second bottle ????
I didn’t have an accident today. I got one of each body oil. It was just too much enabling I caved.
Well then! I’m in good company ????
I don’t think “accidental” orders count either. 😉
Hey, this is good to know! I see additional “accidental” buys in my future ????
I am planning to order it as well when I order Au Coeur du Désert on Nov. 1st. 🙂 Can’t wait for it to arrive!
Nothing better than knowing something fragrant is in the mail and headed your way! I’m going to research Au Coeur. Is must be his newest?
Yes, it is an extrait sort of flanker to L’Air du Désert Marocain.
They will probably layer really nicely, too.
Very curious about this body oil
YOU PEOPLE. Are finally getting to me. I don’t use oils so I’ve been able to ignore previous Tauer oils convos but I am starting to break down.
A couple of questions: I love PHI but do not like the other Tauer roses I’ve tried (Incense, Chypre, Vermeille.) I tend to love rose scents in general, however. What are the chances I’ll like the Rose body oil?
Second Q: How are you all using the oils? Post-shower as a moisturizer? Sprayed on as a fragrance? Other?
TY
It doesn’t smell like a Tauer rose. It has no Tauerade. It’s a bright juicy rose-geranium up top that morphs into a spiced ambery vanilla. I use it straight up since it’s really a perfume in itself and lasts a long time on me. I’ve layered it with other roses. I’d say it’s a safe blind buy considering the price. I don’t think I’ve seen any haters in this one yet!
*side-eyes wallet*
Ditto on Elisa’s comments, no Tauerade, just lovely rose oil scent. I wear it either alone or layered under something like PHI, Ambre Nuit, etc.
I agree with Elisa P’s and cazaubon’s comments, the only difference being that I dislike PHI but do enjoy the Rose oil. It’s just a lovely, warm rose oil. I spray a little on post-shower as a moisturizer; it’s strong enough to wear alone but I sometimes use a spritz or two of another fragrance.
Second day in a row for Omnia Madera. I am reeaally liking this one! Thinking it may be a suitable substitute for the lovely, but sadly discontinued Lea. I get the same yummy “foodie” vibe. Sweet, but not too sweet.
Did that whole line get axed or just Lea?
I honestly don’t know, but I think Luckyscent just carried Lea.
Ah. Thanks!
Dzongkha today, Dzongkha forever. Need to get a backup bottle or two while they’re still cheap.
Dzongkha is in my permanent top 10, got 2 backup bottles as well.
I’m going to get another for Christmas for sure!
Where are you finding it for cheap? Asking for a fried …,
Usually Fragrancenet, but I just google to see which site is currently cheapest. Sometimes Amazon.
I got mine for ~$70 on eBay.
I recently tried Dzongka for the first time and was blown away. It’s so unique and gorgeous. It’s on my full bottle wish list.
One of my top ten of all time, which is a tough list for sure
Oh my goodness, I love Dzonka. It is my go to for cold wet days. That lovely dry smell of smoke and incense – I don’t think there is a similar scent. I have not seen it for sale cheaply. I miss the lovely original L’Artisan bottles. Do not like the newer uniform bottles.
After reading all of the comments above Dzongka is going on my test list!
We are celebrating National Cat Day by tripping over the five who are attempting to get in the house. Titania is NOT ALLOWED but that hasn’t ever stopped her from trying. The ranch is tilling one of the nearer fields and it’s a bit noisy outside. Tonight the four who sleep inside will be extra pampered by being allowed to bed down with us. Their bedroom will be cleaned for human occupation and they’ll have to share Mom’s room with Mr. Minion and myself. Yippee.
My cousins arrive tomorrow, except for the one who decided he couldn’t wait and showed up unexpectedly yesterday, so we are doing final bits of cleaning and moving stuff around outside so we can wash the house. I decided that with all the dust in the air I would need something fairly natural and outdoorsy so I’m wearing Sultan Pasha Pure Incense again. It is so good! I keep stopping to huff my wrists.
Also, if anybody fancies a pale grayish-blue nail polish with holo and rose/gold shimmer, do try Clever Girl from ILNP. It is absolutely stunning and the formula is amazing. It has lasted through three days of hard work so far.
I hope you have all 5 cats in pumpkin costumes!
(and had to go look — that is some fancy nail polish for chores!)
Wow! There’s a day for everything! The cat is cute!
SOTD = Dior Addict
I got a bottle from the Swapmeet – OMG! Smells divine and potent. I eeked out less than one full sprtiz 2 hours ago and I am still wafting in its goodness. I was also lucky enough to have received a huge decant of vintage Dior from a kind NST fairy earlier this year.
In the realm of random questions – what’s your secret of picking out a sweet cantaloupe?
And just to clarify, the swapmeet bottle was vintage as well.
Great score! I also like the scent
Now THAT would explain why you are swooning…I drained a bottle when it first came out and when I recently tested the reformulation at Sephora it was nothing like I had remembered my vintage to be…
Oh and I sniff my canteloupes and if they smell sweet they should be ripe (or so the produce manager told me)
I wasn’t jealous until you clarified, lol. Lucky you!
By fragrance. 😉 A sweet cantaloupe smells good, is heavy for its size, and might have a little give at the stem end.
If they’re smelly, they’re probably good. If you have to buy a green cantaloupe, try to get a nice firm one that is heavy for its size and take it home to ignore for a week or so. Cantaloupe are usually ripe when they begin to stink up your kitchen but before they are getting squishy. This applies to honeydew, canary melon, sprite melon, and other muskmelons as well (yes, they are good IF you allow them to ripen fully). I usually cut a melon one day after I start to notice the funky odor when I walk by.
I always choose my melons by the smell, and I only buy them in season — the rest of the year they always seem to me like pale, bland versions of their potential glory.
Same, and that’s generally how I roll with all fruit. I got some insanely delicious tuscan melons at the farmers’ market this summer (and will patiently wait until next August to have more. 🙂 )
Agree with everyone else — smell the blossom end.
Thanks everyone! So I picked out one that ended up being ripe but not sweet. I’ll blame it on it being out of season.
I love the pumpkin cat picture. Cats know they were born to model!
I randomly sprayed a La Pausa EDP sample and forgot what it was. I smelled my wrist and wondered what the lovely round iris fragrance was. Then I remembered and sprayed EDT on the other side, recalling that there was a lot of disappointment over the EDP. Well, if you aren’t expecting La Pausa, the EDP is soft, quiet, and the 2 sprays are going on 3 hours longevity so far. So, perhaps it is a flanker? 😉 .
Hi there. I love 28 La Pausa but the EDT lasts on my skin for 1-2 hours only. Any chance EDP will be more substantive and lasting?
Tried the EDP this week and am vexed to report that the only thing the EDP has in common with the EDT is negligible lasting power.
NOOOOO 🙁
What about scent itself? I was very fond of buttery texture EDT has
rut roh
😀
Yes, the lasting power is still nil.
But the EDP is a big departure from the EDT?
And what it doesn’t have in common is the heftier price tag, right?
It’s completely different, but 2 sprays lasted several hours.
Do cats like being put in costumes? My sense is no, and that this one is plotting revenge…
That cat looks very PO’d! Cute, but definitely plotting????
Plotting. I bought a trolls hat to put on one of my cats, and she was really irritated. Wait till I try to get the sailor outfit in her…. bwahahahah..
If I tried to put my cat in a costume, my blood would end up spoiling the costume. I would love to see a cat dressed as a troll.
Zelda’s answer is a RESOUNDING no.
[Falling from my chair as I laugh]
I don’t think cats like it…or at least the one that I had in childhood used to hate that I dressed her in doll dresses and forced her to stay in a doll stroller….
Cats don’t like doing anything you *want* them to do. We dressed up one cat in a Minnie Mouse costume long enough to get a picture. That’s enough for one lifetime, methinks.
Both PG Felanilla and Tonkamande have a feline connotation for me. But, alas, I have none of either and am planning to wear Bulgari Black, post yoga.
Black always works! Enjoy the yoga.
Have a Voluspa Tuberose Notte candle going and just sprayed on Orchidee Vanille from the splitmeet. The scent that made me appreciate vanilla. Before this one, I was uninterested…
I am feeling pretty satisified….made blueberry pancakes topped with a combo of pure maple syrup and apple cider syrup. The latter is a gem.
Wow, sounds yummy!
Smells good at your place today! I like their candles. I have the gardenia and the jasmine ones.
Knowing it’s National Cat Day has completely changed my fragrance plans for the day. I was planning on testing the TF Vert Boheme decant I got yesterday, but instead I’m wearing Absolue Pour Le Soir, which seems like the personification of cat fur to me.
I totally agree.
APLS is the bomb! You smell fantastic- And suitably furry ????
Shermine is also like a cat fur
I don’t often get along with clean musk/white musk, but I love the scent of kitty fur. I need to add furry musk to my sampling list. Meow!
In Vanilla Flash. Because that is what I grabbed while running out of the house being late as usual
Hey twin! I love this one on cozy, rainy days like we’re currently having — like wearing a cuddly cashmere robe all day long.
No kidding!! We are not rainy today but it was pouring yesterday
We went to our favorite local Cat Cafe here today to pet the kitties since we don’t currently have a cat of our own. Such a fun place and the food is good too – great grilled cheese sandwiches and hot chocolate (it is 5C and raining here in Montreal, ugh).
Wearing Byredo Seven Veils today. Also stopped by Lush and picked up Lord of Misrule shower gel, lavender body cream and another bottle of Kerbside Violet since you can’t buy it in California. Two more days here and then we are flying to San Diego!
So you just sit inside and cats play around you? Awww
Yes, it’s wonderful! They provide toy fishing poles so you can play with them and of course you can pet them too. One jumped on the table and tried to drink my husband’s latte.
🙂
Haha. Must be so much fun and destressing
I didn’t know there were places like that in Montreal. Have a safe trip and a nice winter at San Diego , I hope we can do another meetup when you come back.
There are actually 3 cat cafes in Montreal. We will meet up for sure when I get back in April.
I started the day in Heeley’s Cuir Pleine Fleur which had a lot more Cuir and a lot less
Fleur than I remembered. After a run and a shower I’m wearing Bois Farine. And enjoying it immensely.
My cat really likes Jicky edt. She’s fancy.
Jicky would appeal to cats, both are mysterious. And Jicky would be a nice name for a kitten. Or a puppy. 🙂
Denyse of the Grain de Musc blog named her cat Jicky. 🙂
National Cat Day is making me miss my late, lamented diva cat, Pooky. She had the nose of a bloodhound, and sniffed my arm every day to see what perfume I was wearing. She was especially fond of anything with a boatload of amber in it.
Thanks to hannahmom, I will soon be the proud owner of Andy Tauer’s latest. I ordered a bottle of the amber oil yesterday, and added two of the rose for Christmas presents (for family members, not me…..I think).
“not me…I think”….that’s hysterical!
If you don’t already own the rose oil for yourself, I have serious doibts that they will make it under the tree. 🙂
The rose is very nice – as soon as I saw about the amber, I jumped to get it
I am going to go nutty this week and focus on chesnut, almond and hazelnut scents. So today I am re-testing Zadig & Voltaire This is Her for a chesnut hit from a sample. I like this perfume more and more…recommend it if you like the Dior Poison flankers, SL Rahat Loukoum, Dame vanilla or musk perfume oils, or the Angels. Thanks to the NST master chefs I will also make a stack of pancakes with chestnut cream topping and have breakfast in bed…after a week sleeping on the floor I have my own bed back and the guests have gone ( anticipating several loads of washing and hoping the sun shines…we had a dusting of snow on the hills yesterday).
oh boy! Can I come to your house for sniffing and eating???
Yeah, of course. Anytime!
Oh and I looked up the notes…that fragrance sounds amazing…..but lucky for me not so easy to come by…..so I won’t be tempted to blind buy it 🙂
Snow in November – aargh! It’s been very wintery here too over the weekend. We had a very mild winter, but the horrible spring feels like winter too. And don’t get me started on the cherry blossom trees near here, they have been so disappointing this year.
And meant to say that I’m still to try the Zadig and Voltaire, a colleague who is quite a perfume fan is quite enamoured with This is Him, and it smells very nice on her.
Happy Caturday! I have 2 very spoiled kitties, but they are so sweet and affectionate, it’s hard not to spoil them. My male cat really likes several SSS fragrances and finds them lickable. He is deathly afraid of a stinky oud oil blend I bought. Like it was another cat or animal. It does smell pretty raunchy.
My SOTD is that Lush chocolate bar again layered with L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme edp-a swap discovery. I’m loving these both separately and together.
Sounds like a great combo and happy Caturday to the kitties ????
Thanks and hope you have an easy weekend at work ????
Caturday! ????
Cute kitty 🙂
I’m wearing AG Nuit Etoilee today.
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.
Long day of Saturday chores but now I am ensconced in my chair with my feet up, and quite happy. You smell great!
SOTD is my N°5 L’Eau sample. It’s really lovely!
Hooray for National Cat Day! I’ve always loved kitties. ‘My’ cats are the local bobcats, and we used to have a wandering neighborhood cat named Charlie, who was abandoned by people who moved away. I once happened to look out a window just in time to see a bobcat being chased out of my front yard by Charlie!!! Darnedest thing I ever saw.
Have a great weekend, all!
Cute Charlie story! My very first cat was a big orange and white one named Charley, dear to my heart. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a bobcat in the wild, although we have them in the western and southern parts of the state.
Hello, all, from beautiful, beautiful Tasmania. It’s so pretty here that I’ve stopped chatting because I’m so busy looking and thinking, and the dear man keeps asking if I’m cross or sick. Neither–just pleased to be somewhere that fills the eye like a gift! I think that I have finally found some place other than A-NZ that I could live and be happy. Tasmania feels encompassable, as though I could fit the whole community into my head at once.
Oh, and we’Ve seen wombats –so sort of rounded and woolly — and wallabies, and we met a currawong with a wicked eye and a strong desire for my chicken sandwich. He had No Manners At All, but what he did have was a very big beak. Hmmmm.
My plan to wear Chanel on this holiday is working out fine, though Richard did say he wasn’t keen on Sycomore on me, then wore it himself! That was probably even better than wearing it myself, because I smelt it more that way, so I’m not complaining! When we were in Sydney I tried Angel Muse, but I need to think about it a little more before I buy. It wasn’t instant love, as some of the gourmands are for me., but it was intriguing.
Be well, all. We’re heading further south today, towards Swansea. It’s not warm, but who cares, when everything is so beautiful? Be well, all.
That sounds like a wonderful trip – happy for you! Enjoy!!
I have been to Australia and South Island NZ but you are making me want to go to Tasmania, too! Could you please see a Tasmanian Devil for me and report back? I have heard a contagious cancer is ravaging the population.
Hello Waterdragon! I spent a month in Tasmania (based in Hobart, near Salamanca Place ) and fell in love with the place and would love to return. It is fantastic. There are great short walks around Freycinet/Wineglass Bay if you go that way. And Tasmanian cheese is wonderful. Sigh. Double sigh. Triple sigh.
We did some of the walks both round Freycinet and in Cradle Mountain. Gorgeous scenery. Haven’t tried the cheese, but the wines here are delicious. Ate salmon ???? which I still don’t like, even though people keep telling me how fresh it is..it’s a silly comment: .after all, I’m not likely to eat it if it isn’t fresh. Snow in nearly-November? That’s mad! Stay warm.
Sounds heavenly. With all the political BS and strife in the world, it makes me want to head for a remote place like Tasmania (with no tv or radio)!
No TV or radio? I’m sorry to tell you this, but it’s impossible to escape That Election, even here!
So envious! I lived in Tasmania for a year when I was ten. We lived on the north shore outside of Burnie (a town called Cooee) but we took a Christmas trip to Hobart. It was beautiful. I still have the koala bear I bought in Launceston…Mister Tes is his name. He is made from kangaroo fur..needs a few repairs. We basically lived in the beach. Water was cold, but we were kids so we didn’t care. Really want to go back someday.
Thank you Mrs. Dalloway for telling me what the kitty was supposed to be–I just wondered why it had a candy dish on its head. I could say that I hadn’t had my coffee or wasn’t wearing my glasses, but that would be a lie. I am just not perceptive when it comes to cats wearing costumes. My kitty hates all scents and ducks her head to get away from me when I try to pet her after spraying on something. Perhaps if I had a scent that smelled like chicken….This morning I found myself in Ulta staring at Stash again so I bought a rollerball. Since I had success getting Bellodgia out of a broken atomizer I will be unstoppable with a rollerball. This afternoon I’m doing laundry, reading about Julia Child’s life (Act two), and eating a grilled sweet Thai chili chicken sandwich on a baguette. Life is good!
Happy Saturday and National Cat Day. Catnip all around. I can’t wait to get some amber body oil from Andy. I wore Amber Flash yesterday and it was beyond warm and cosy. I love Lord of Misrule and will have to pick up some shower gel from Lush. Going to have a long afternoon bath in L’Occitane lavender.
I just went and changed my avatar (I hope it shows up!) so that Pierce (short for Franklin Pierce) could say “hi” and “happy weekend” to all you fragrant NSTers. He wanted me to tell you that he’s especially fond of vintage Mitsouko (who knew?!?) and likes to lick it off my wrists!
What a cute little guy! Mine like Mitsouko, too, but they’ve only tried the current edp(and hate Shalimar. I keep telling them that one day, though, they’ll just get it!). I don’t want them falling down that vintage rabbit hole ????
lol re the rabbit hole! Obviously mine’s already fallen down it!
He’s adorable!
I don’t think I’ve tried vintage Mitsy on my kitties but they seem to like Vol de Nuit. I’m not really sure it’s a compliment when they like my perfumes since they have worn a visible spot rolling on the wool rug where a dog piddled, and Doolittle tore a hole in the turf covering herself in deer dung the other day.
Aww, thanks. But I think you’re right about it not being a compliment; they’re “cleaning us”!
And meant to say yours is pretty cute too!
Rarely does one see a cat named after our 14th president. He has excellent taste in perfume.
His taste in perfume is equaled only by his taste in cat food! Top of the line for him! 🙂
He was preceded by Ike, Andrew Jackson, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Aaron Burr (named because his fur felt like a burr cut!), and Teddy (Roosevelt).
I’m sensing a theme …
lol! Females (only 2) ended up being named after female TV characters: Maddie (Maddie Hayes in Moonlighting) and Maggie (Maggie last name? in Northern Exposure).
And I’m thinking my next cat needs to be named Millard Filmore. 😉
There you go!
He would have to have a very laid back personality. I think I read that Millard Fillmore did less than any other president in terms of enacting laws or whatever it is presidents do.
Adorable!
Thanks!
Cute kitty! Mine likes Mitsouko as well as most chypre scents.
Oh I love yours too! Looks very much like the former Andrew Jackson.
Ha! 🙂
Very cute avatar! I need to learn how to change mine to a picture. Love the presidential naming theme. Our cats were named by our boys, so nothing sophisticated.
Go to gravatar.com and sign up if you aren’t already, and you’ll find it’s pretty easy. I’m not tech minded and I can do it! 😉
Pierce is a real cutie and I love your naming theme! I wish I could say I had some sort of logical naming plan but I don’t, it’s mostly been whatever the cat or dog inspires in me. The dumbest name I think we ever had was for an Old English Sheepdog many years ago. We adopted him when he was two years old from a breeder who had kept him around as a pet because he was undersized and not suitable to breed. For two years he had been called ‘Puppy’ so that’s what we continued to call him all the years we had him; it just didn’t feel right to change his name after that point.
Happy Saturday everyone! Happy National Cat Day to all cat owners! My boyfriend is a cat owner, so I’m sure he is doing something special for his feline friend.
My Saturday was pretty light today. I went to the gym, I went to go vote, and I came home and took a shower. I have been in the bed ever since.
My SOTD is Mon Paris by YSL. This is a beautiful, sensuous fragrance!
I really like Mon Paris, but it didn’t last all of a half hour on me. From what I understand, most people are getting greater longevity.
It lasted a good amount of time on me. And I used a sample. I sprayed it on my night shirt after I showered yesterday. This morning when I woke up, I could still smell it.
Yay voting! We have vote-by-mail in Oregon and it’s the best thing ever.
Well, early voting in Texas this year was fairly easy. During the week we had long lines. But, I just walked right on in and voted. So glad I was able to get it done and not have to worry about it on election day.
I wonder what is Hilary and Donald’s signature fragrances? Would be interesting to find out.
I’m in Noir Pour Femme – a very light spritzing as I have a massage appointment in half an hour. She is going to get the knot out of my left shoulder blade area or ELSE! I’ve given up on the knot in my right shoulder blade area – it will be with me forever, it seems, so I’ve begun to think of it as a pet and named it Henri.
Urgh! I have a permanent shoulder-blade knot as well and hate when it invites friends over to play. Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks, MM – it’s nice to know I’m not alone, but at the same time I really would not wish this on anyone. I keep hoping I’ll wake up one morning and Henri will just have gone poof. Now I’ll hope it for you too. 🙂
I wonder if magnesium would help?
It seems to – I take an oral supplement and use a magnesium gel. Doesn’t wipe it completely out, bur does seem to ease the knottiness.
Wearing the new L’envol de Cartier, bought the little bottle, and enjoying the honeyed old fashioned chypre vibe. While this does not smell exactly like Pino, Quorum or any of the great 70’s and 80’s masculine chypres, it certainly evokes everything I love about them. They have a certain airy cleaness that corresponds so nicely with whatever the stronger notes might be, in this case patchouli. This wears close to the skin but is so affable and different from the usual tepid men’s offerings that I find myself utterly charmed.
Really looking forward to trying L’Envol, thanks for posting your impressions.
Orange cats are my favorite, although I haven’t been owned by one in awhile. My SOTD is my favorite orange-cat scent, vintage L’Origan.
On National Cat Day, I’m grateful not only for the serendipity that brought us the Sisters earlier this year – KittenMonkeySquirrel and her OlderWiserSister – but also for the lasting friendship that’s developed with their former owners, who rescued the pregnant mother cat from a shelter, just hours before she was to be put down. After the kittens were born, they kept the two brothers and allowed us to raise the two girls for them. Now, whenever we go away, the Sisters go back to their former home for family reunion time with their mom and brothers. How lucky they are!
On National Cat Day, I worry about a little black stray cat I’ve named Mary, who I first discovered one hot day in mid-June outside our bedroom window nursing her two 3 or 4 week-old kittens, mirror images of their mom. She was barely bigger than a kitten herself, extremely shy and unapproachable. She helped herself to food we left out for her but after a few days Mary and her kittens disappeared, to be seen only intermittently romping in someone’s yard throughout the summer (we had all the neighbors involved in trying to help so we could find them homes), but never in the same place twice. Then, in late September, another set of 3 newborn black kittens were found by a neighbor in a corner of her yard, and what appeared to be Mary visiting my yard to hunt birds near our feeders. But after a few days the kittens disappeared, although Mary still was seen for awhile occasionally nearby and ate the food we left for her. But now she’s vanished again. Winter’s coming, what will happen? did the kittens survive?, we don’t know. What happened to the first set of kittens? I find myself looking for her each time I leave the house or return and wonder.
We went to our favorite local seafood restaurant tonight for crabfest and treated the Sisters to some fresh crabmeet leftovers. They purred their satisfaction and thanks for National Cat Day!
Love the story of the Sisters! My advice re: Mary would be if someone could trap her in a humane trap and get her to a shelter or vet to be spayed.
That was my (and my neighbors’) plan, but the problem was in both instances we didn’t want to catch her w/o her kittens before they had weaned; hence, our dilemma! The first time they all disappeared and the second time, although Mary was seen for awhile, the kittens disappeared while still newborn. We didn’t know if she’d hid them somewhere (as she usually kept herself well hidden and could never be seen going to a specific location) or if they were dead. If they survived, they’d only be about 5or 6 weeks old now. The June kittens that we spotted only intermittently were seen in numerous locations within at least a square block radius, with many backyards filled with trees and shrubs – perfect places to hide – but impossible to even begin to know where their ‘home’ was. This, even with various neighbors looking! I’m hoping that once the trees and shrubs begin to lose their leaves, we still may be able to find them.
P.S. Any and all suggestions are welcome. I’ve read a lot about feral cats and have various contacts to help but this is the first time I’ve encountered this situation. I live in a suburban neighborhood where most residents have dogs and those few who have cats keep them indoors or, on rare occasions, let their cats out but collared and belled. I suspect she’s been out there awhile. I’ve adopted 3 cats previously who were foundlngs in my back yard but they obviously had been someone’s pets as they were easy to approach and responded well. If approached at all when she has been sighted, Mary runs away.
Hello NST folk! A couple of questions for you:
1. The other Mr Koenigsberg suggested yesterday I wear a perfume with a bonfire note. I chose 4160 Tuesdays “A kiss by the fireside” – what would you have chosen?
2. The clocks went back last night so goodbye BST and hello GMT. We’re planning a trip to an Arboretum to enjoy the Autumn colours. What would you choose for such a visit?
Have a good day!
Bonfire note – SSS Fireside Intense, Naomi Goodsir Bois d’Ascèse, LL Patchouli 24 or CBIHP Burning Leaves.
I personally love wearing Bois d’Ascese or Bois d’Ombrie in the autumn leaf season.
I will second SSS Fireside Intense and also add SSS Winter Woods as well as By the Fireside and another one by Celtic whose name escapes me now….off to research it!
https://nstperfume.com/2013/12/11/union-celtic-fire-fragrance-review/
Oh boy was I off on the name! The brand is Union the fragrance is Celtic Fire….
Thanks, will have to look at Union next year – their website is broken today but I made a note. :^)
I shall have to seek out Bois d’Ascese if it would qualify for either scent. I think SSS is hard to get over here, and the CBIHP didn’t work for me (no lasting power, and I didn’t like the feel of the water base).
1. FUMIDUS Profumum Roma.
2. Next week for USA, not looking forward to darkness at 5p.m.
Incense Extreme Tauer, the frankincense would complement decomposing vegetation.
😉
RE: No 2- yuck! i also do not like when it turns dark early…I would much rather have the darkness in the morning 🙁
Oh yeah, Fumidus – big smoky peaty fire.
I need to try the Fumidus – I like Profumum Roma stuff in general.
I actually wore Annick Goutal “Encens Flamboyant” to the arboretum as I thought the pine-and-incense would work well. After our visit to Westonbirt Arboretum (the colours!) we drove back home through the Cotswolds and it was dark before 17:00. By December it will be dark by 15:30. :^(
On my way into work wearing Queen, although I certainly done feel like one.
Got an email to let me know my “accidental” bottles have been shipped. It’s been so long since I’ve had any smelly gifts in the mail, I don’t know how to act. I’m ridiculously excited!
Have a bang-up Sunday, all????
Enjoy your accidental bottles 🙂 I looked on the Tauer website early this morning and while both oils sounded lovely I wasn’t in the least bit tempted….which works for me right now ….. I am happy enough reading about everyone else’s excitement 🙂 !!!
Good for you for staying strong!
The anticipation is half the fun!
It is!
Naomi Goodsir Or du Sérail today, trying to make myself not hoard it, it is so good.
It really is – you smell delicious.
Scentless right now because I’m heading to the mall for some sniffing. Last night I wore Seville a l’Aube and remembered how beautiful it is. I especially love the incense, I think, so I’m going to concentrate on sniffing things with an incense note.
There are so many good perfumes with incense notes; have fun sniffing!
I’m back and the good news is I didn’t spend any money (except on a pair of grey boots and a frying pan). The bad news is that the only incense I found that did anything for me was Jo Malone Incense & Cedrat, but it was gone in the blink of an eye. What are your favourite incense perfumes?
The JMs tend to disappear on me. 🙁
Favorite incenses: All of the CdG incense series (Avignon and Zagorsk are my favorites among them), PdE’s Wazamba, Norma Kamali, Demeter’s Holy Smoke, SSS Incense Pure, Etro’s Shaal Nur. And I like incense when it’s combined with roses: Caron Parfum Sacre, for example, or Andy Tauer’s Incense Rose.
I second Incense Pure!
I should have shopped online!
Orange Sanguine (again!) over a base of Warm Vanilla Sugar body lotion….
Poor Man’s Tea- Bigelow Salted Caramel black….mmmmm…so satisfying!
Love the Bigelow Salted Caramel. Might have to make myself a cup!
It might have been you who mentioned it on NST which is why I bought it…so good!!!
I love Bigeliw’s and Stash and Lipton. I also have a hoard of David’s Teas that I was originallt going to give away but not anymore.
I am learning NOT to be a tea snob anymore…there actually are some pretty decent teas that don’t break my budget….I also like P & G Tips….
Coffee is my tea of choice so not even my little pinky can be a tea snob 🙂
SOTD is Une Rose Chypre from a sample. It is quite pretty but I don’t know if I need it. It shares similarities with Une Rose de Kandahar which I already own. Have a nice day all!
Yesterday Gi had some local perfumistas over for brunch. The food was delicious. She made an egg dish with sausage, potatoes, corn, cilantro, mushrooms and peppers, topped with grated cheese. For dessert, we had pot de crème with berries. I left full and smelling great wearing 7 different perfumes!
Sounds great!
No SOTD (yet) as we had a mini family get-together to visit a very ill uncle. Of course one of my sisters did nor thinn about fragrance restrictions and wafted Cedrat Enivrant (which was courtesy of yours truly).
SOTM is Mohur Extrait. My husband thought it was too strong (one spray!) and didn’t care for it, but i like it. We have a neighborhood Halloween party to go to later. Not sure what I will wear to that. It’s mostly focused around all the kids. Maybe Prada Candy (my unimaginitive but easy Friday scent) or Laurence Dumont Tendre Madeleine.
Our little, loud cat, Mooky, has been the focus of the week. The little toot came down with a relapse of bobcat fever (a parasitic disease carried by ticks causes an illness similar to what Arkansas locals call “tick fever” in humans, which is bacterial). He got super sick the first time and felt pretty bad this time, but got better a lot quicker. He has turned out to be an expensive little kitty, but he’s awfully sweet.
I was wondering recently how Tendre Madeleine compares to Eau Missions. Have you smelled E.M and do you think they are at all alike?
I’ve smelled E.M., but it’s been a long time. IIRC, the Tendre Madeleine has much more citrus in the beginning.
Thank you!
Poor kitty! Glad he’s feeling better.
Poor Mooky! I’m glad he’s better.
Just sprayed on some VC&A Moonlight Patchouli…
Fruit, leather and patchouli so far…have to see how it progresses…
My question for everyone is…what is your celebrity perfume guilty pleasure? A fragrance that you love but it’s not nessiasrly “high end” and sometimes you feel funny when someone ask you what your wearing and you answer under your breath (insert celebrity name here) what about that fragrance makes it your guilty pleasure?
For me, it would have to be Deseo by Jennifer Lopez. It is by no means “high end”, but it smells like it could be. I get so many compliments when I wear it. I wouldn’t necessarily say its a guilty pleasure for me, but its an easy go – to fragrance.
I wear SJP Lovely at times. I enjoy the opening and middle notes very much, but the base gives me a slight headache. So I wear it when I know I’ll be heading into the water (shower, bath, pool, or ocean) within an hour or so. Lovely gets complements so I feel a little guilty knowing I’ll wash it off before it fades.
Queen, by none other than Queen Latifah! Good stuff and I’ve had many compliments on it. I like this particular celeb, so I don’t really mind telling someone what I’m wearing. On the other hand, I’ve been hearing good things about Kim Kardashian Honey, and I love a gourmand, but I can’t bring myself to buy it.
Ditto this!
Boyfriend by Kate Walsh. It’s very similar to Organza Indecence which is why I bought it.
I absolutely love Taylor by Taylor Swift. It smells like sparkling peaches to me. It was so easy to wear over the summer.
At this time of year, I like Rihanna Rogue. I’m not usually a fan of leather notes, but this soft suede/patchouli combo feels just right in the fall. Plus my bottle was free with Walgreens points. What’s not to like?
I don’t believe in feeling ‘guilty’ or apologizing for anything I wear, and I actually cringe sometimes when someone hesitates to admit wearing a fragrance they feel is not worthy of a perfumista. I say, wear what you like, and feel good about doing so!
Oh I LOVE your attitude 🙂
and when my no buy is lifted eventually I am going to start to seek out less expensive alternatives for my perfume addiction….full bottles under thirty dollars….
And Robin, don’t know if this has been a community project yet but maybe at some future date ???? Something along the lines of “highly affordable fragrances?”…..I think it would give us all a chance to read about others’ cheap thrills 🙂 !!!
We have done it, but we can do it again:
https://nstperfume.com/2014/11/28/friday-scent-of-the-day-1128/
Adam Levine for Her. This is one of my favorite cold weather scents. Although I love a perfume compliment, I am hesitant to confess the origin and, the microphone bottle just compounds the matter!
I’ve been enjoying the warm comfort of YSL Cinema edp layered over L’Occitane Almond Concentrate body cream, perfect for a chilly, gloomy fall day. It’s one of my favorite fall combos I don’t wear enough!
That sounds perfect!
Wearing vintage Crepe de Chine parfum thanks to an exceptionally generous perfume swapping buddy.
Wow is really all I can say.
I saw that at the swap. What does it smell like?
Clove infused oakmoss. Very nice.
Oh, I used to love this one and haven’t smelled this in a longtime. Plus I love its beautiful name!
Wearing Bvlgari Black. After all the love from here, I had to try it for myself…… and it’s a love! Reminds
me of Dk Fuel. May need to get a back up bottle.
You bought it unsniffed? So glad it worked out!
Wearing Iris Nazarena from splitmeet second day in a row- I like it a lot!
