TGIF, happy World Humanitarian Day and happy Perfect Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that is nearly perfect, and tell us how you would change it (or, layer it!) to make it completely perfect.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if youโre not participating in the community project.
I'm wearing Marni, the original signature version. Marni is pretty much perfect for a no-brainer fragrance, but I liked it better layered with Marni Rose, and I've discovered this summer that I like it even better than that layered over Tauer Rose Delight body oil. I never did see the Marni Spice version, did anyone here ever try it?
Reminder: on 8/26, wear a fragrance by Calvin Klein, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
From the moment my niece gifted me this fragrance in body wash format I was beyond smitten. I had to borrow her body mist in order to participate this morning.
My perfect scent in this moment is Fig and Brown Sugar.
How would I perfect it ? By taking it out of the cheap, plastic Bath and Body Works container and putting it into the elegant Dame Perfumery bottle with his signature trinity name of , perhaps, “Fig, Vanilla Orchid & Mapled Amber” and increasing the strength to EDP.
Happy Friday, y’all!
Shower gel twins today! I haven’t tried the mist yet.
Isn’t the shower gel wonderful? Scents up my bathroom and lingers on my skin for a while! The shower gel is also super hydrating ….. after my shower I was not able to perform my crow pose as my legs kept slipping off my upper arms….btw, this is a “retired” scent so if you love it get more….I may actually do the same ๐ !!!!
Hee! I love the idea of decanting a budget scent into a fancy bottle. And why not? We decant wine, so the same should be for perfume.
Ever since I discovered estate sales (thanks Angela!) I realized I never have to use a plastic bottle again. I now sip my mouthwash out of a vintage stoppered yellow glass vinegar bottle that my boyfriend says makes it look like I am drinking a potion.
I am not a mouthwash user but I would take a slug of it on the regular if I could do it from that elixir vial in “Death Becomes Her”. It doesn’t even have to levitate, although it really does have to light up for the full effect. Find some purple mouthwash and you’re set. (I just Googled “purple mouthwash” and sure enough there are some to choose from.)
Ede and Regina-
I think you guys are on to something! I may very well start decanting some of my non-niche /lower budget scents into pretty decanters/fancy atomizers! Love the idea of the mouthwash as well!
Ummm… I think L’Occitane has been onto that strategy for a while ๐ Bet you can name a few others!
LOL! Oakland I think you may be right ๐
I’ve been wearing the hell out of Safran Troublant this summer, and I know its simplicity it a large part of its appeal, but I think it needs just one more element in the base to make it truly great: incense or myrrh, something with a hint of bitterness or acridity to temper the sweetness and up the complexity.
I’ve been mixing Aura Cacia frankincense oil with my regular body lotion this summer and wearing it under lots of fragrances — will have to try that with ST. And maybe I need to buy some myrrh as well.
I have a couple of Aura Cacia oils that I use for scenting things that need it but none of the really expensive ones like frankincense and myrrh. Worth it, you think? A bottle of each would set me back something like $70 CAD.
Well gosh, I did not pay so dearly for the frankincense I don’t think. I bought it at Whole Foods and I’ll have to check next time to see how much it was — could have sworn it was less than $20 US.
I always like the first sniff of Saffran Troublant but quickly find it too bland. I tried layering it with Aftelier Ancient Resins, but that didn’t quite work. I think the main problem is that it lacks that bitter counterpoint of real saffron.
I know! I love it too, but I still want to add some marzipan or toasted almonds to it.
No19 Chanel EDT circa 1995.
I’m almost finished my 30ml splash of this, which is quite leathery.
Current formulation EDT vs EDP ? All opinions appreciated.
I wouldn’t change anything about what I’m wearing today.
๐
Can’t speak to the current formulation but you smell great today, Bear!!! How many times has no 19 been reformulated? I wore it in the late 70s early 80s and briefly in the early 90s….I am sure it is different now….
You smell great. Savor those last drops!
One vote for the edp.
I like both the current EDT and EDP but I prefer the EDP because it is more rosy than the EDT. But when I want a leathery iris, I go for the EDT.
Major fan of No 19 here, Bear! I think that the current EDP is rounder and more floral than the EDT – pretty much what you’d expect, I suppose. I tend to wear the EDT more, as I like its bite and I find it is more reminiscent of the vintage. However, I love the EDP, too.
I vote 100x for the EDP. You may have to spritz 61x for it to last all day. I suggest hooking up with Oakland Fresca to get them at Costco price (I think about $50 something and SHE opted NOT to buy a bottle for herself).
Thanks Everyone!
Will sample next time I brave the mall.
Hajusuuri, that Costco price is VERY tempting. ๐
Interlude Man (Amouage). Perfect, wouldn’t change a thing except for the price, and I would say the same thing about a LOT of fragrances.
Nearly all of them!
You smell amazing! I don’t resent Interlude’s price; I should probably resent the number of dud Amouage samples I had to wade through to get to it. :^D
I like the way you think! ๐
Wearing the current version of Fendi by Fendi, aka Fendi light. To make it perfect, i would of course turn it into Vintage Fendi, and I would actually own a bottle. In my fragrance history, Original Fendi was perfection.
Yes, Original Fendi was perfection! And really, there was/is nothing like it. I wish they’d bring it back.
I remember my older sister wearing Fendi back in the day- and it was awesome.
Wearing Chanel N 22 EDP for the 1st time today, and the only thing I would change would be for me to have been wearing this for years. In all my Chanel obsession, I don’t know how I missed this one.
You smell fantastic!
Enjoy!
One of my top ten scents of all time…..wore it like a fiend in the 80s and 90s…it was always a “hidden gem” as far as I was concerned…..you smell divine!
You smell GREAT, and you are right- wearing it for YEARS would be perfect.
You smell fantastic.
I only wear No 22 during the day. If I wear it at night the fragrance invades my dreams and I wake up! ๐
I am wearing Chanel 31 Rue Cambon and to me this is perfect. The only thing I would change is the price.
You smell great! What sort of longevity do you get from this – I get only 3-4 hours ?
Wow. Butting in to say that I get about twice the longevity you do and much more on hair or fabric.
Jealous ๐
I’m jealous too. It doesn’t last that long for me either.
It lasted interminable hours on me – would still be going strong 12 hours later and a bit much when I was tired. Funny how this particular scent has such different inevitable on different people.
– inevitable
+ longevity
I get great longevity (and projection) from it, too. At least 6-8hrs from one spray. And a nice dab from a sample vial lasted on a t-shirt for a few days!
I would say I get about 6-8 hours. I usually have to reapply at night or after work.
3 spritzes of 31RC last 8+ hours…so fantastic!
You smell fabulous! (I wore it yesterday.) Yeah, I’d change the price, too–but just for perfumistas! ????
SOTD Sycomore, which I love. I would like perhaps a touch more mellow wood to balance the vetiver in the base.
Curious to see how this one does in EDP strength. But I have about half of a 30ml decant of EDT left, plus an untouched 200ml back up, so I’m good for Sycomore.
I like that idea!
Sometimes it makes me sneeze so I would like that bit taken out.
So last week or thereabouts I mentioned I felt sh***y and my sotd smelled appropriately like sh** as well. Which was probably completely erroneous, as … the other day I kept smelling something horrendous only to discover it was my own freakin’ nose! Literally! Eeuuuwww! I finally went to the doctor and am now on antibiotics for a sinus infection.
I was planning on wearing Dilettante today, as I thought it was going to be an absolute winner for me and it isn’t. I am loaded with orange blossom fragrances, and I’d love to layer it with one of them for a little more brightness, I guess? Maybe AG’s Neroli, or Hanbury, and I dunno what else but my experiment will be delayed until I can actually smell.
PSA: STC is discontinuing Guerlain, and they are having a closeout sale at 40% off. Code is guerlain40. I know I enabled massive expenditures announcing the Chanels were being dumped, but y’all were happy to get some, right? Sadly Spiriteuse Double Vanille is not on offer, so it’s quite possible that eventually I will have to ante up for a bottle. Happy hunting!
Oh gosh! hope you are doing better! I have heard that sinus infections can smell nasty…so sorry to hear that you went through this but a course of antibiotics should definitely help!
yikes… you enabler, you! must sit on my fingers like I did when the chanels were being dumped…what is going on, btw? is Guerlain following on the heels of Chanel with regard to decants being sold?
Thank you!
I have no idea why the Guerlains are going!
Wish you better Holly!
Thank you!
I love Moon Bloom, but Dilettante didn’t work on me at all…got the dreaded cough syrup facet that I sometimes get from all-naturals.
AG Neroli is probably one of my fave OBs.
Hope the antibiotics fix you up posthaste!
I didn’t get the cough syrup note (which I’m very familiar with) but I did expect Dilettante to be more uplifting and less dense. I actually like it a lot, but it’s almost but not quite right.
Thanks for the well wishes!
Hope your sniffer recovers soon! The Guerlain close out is verrrry tempting. Oh boy…
Thank you!
Yep, I was tempted by the close out!
Tell me about it!
I put a bunch of stuff in my cart but haven’t clicked yet.
Did enough damage already this month on some new decorating purchases.
I put a bunch in and then removed all but one(which I bought).
1) Sinus infections can smell UTTERLY FOUL, and turn your mouth odor into complete YUCK.
2) I have lately discovered that yes, I love orange blossom and citrus scents, and I would really loveto hear about your experiment.
3) Also, Zulilly is doing a sale of mega sized department store fragrances. I saw a 6.75 ounce bottle of Prada Infusion d’Iris for $84, for example.
I’m pretty sure I’ve had a sinus infection before, but I have never experienced this really disgusting odor. So gross.
I’ll post about my Dilettante experiment once I’m sure I can be (relatively) accurate. Have you tried it yet? Any particular orange blossom/citrus scents you love?
Thanks for the PSA!
Oh, hope you feel better quickly! And thanks for the heads-up about Guerlain on STC (also: What? Discontinuing Guerlain??). I don’t usually make perfume purchases before I’ve had my morning tea, but I’ll make an exception this time. ๐
Thank you!
Yes, I was taken aback that the Guerlains are going! I was fumbling around for my glasses and knocked my morning tea over in my haste to peruse the STC site!
I did and bought 3 decants
Feel better. I trust you’ve been in a steamy shower.
Thanks for the heads up on the Guerlain sale- not that I need more decants to organize, but I’m very ” behind” in my Guerlain appreciation.
Then there was the Ava Luxe, that I read about this week and feel a need to test…..help!!
Thank you! Ah yes – the steamy shower, the steam inhalations, the neti pot, the consumption of garlic, ginger, cayenne, wasabi, gargling with thyme and oregano tinctures, basting with eucalyptus and peppermint, acupressure … all to no avail. I’ll continue regardless, but I’m glad I caved and am on antibiotics.
I’m behind on the Guerlains as well, and I reaaaaalllyyy don’t need more decants, either. So, I only bought four. ๐
I use a couple of drops of tea tree oil with the neti pot. I have chronic sinus problems, congestion etc but usually not full blown infections. The tea tree helps eliminate the funky smell/taste(though it hasn’t helped the congestion ๐
Thanks for the suggestion, Elisa P. I need to order some more tea tree – I tend to not use it as I despise the smell. But – it’s better than the alternative. ๐
Sorry you have a chronic problem with your sinuses – have you tried acupuncture? It seems that might work really well for that sort of thing…
The tea tree smell disappears pretty quickly. I haven’t tried acupuncture- but it’s probably worth a shot.
You should feel better once the antibiotics kick in. Sinus infections can make you miserable.
Thank you! I thought I was just being generally miserable, so I’m relieved that at least this part of that condition will be remedied!
I purchased 3 decants from STC Guerlain sale
Eww, kick that sinus infection soon!! And thanks for the STC PSA–I’m off to peruse right now…!
Thank you, I will!
Happy hunting on STC!
Tell the antibiotics to kick b-tt! Glad you’re on the mend. The only orange blossom-heavy perfume I like is L’AP Seville a l’Aube. I was scared off orange blossom by Arabian Oud Ghroob — so nasty!
Oops….I thought it was Calvin Klein week! HA HA HA Time moves pretty fast, does it not? ๐
SOTD: Calvin Klein Euphoria. Just a dab, and at my waist to keep it from getting too aggressive….
HAPPY FriYAY!!!! What an insanely busy week in my world….Ready for a little downtime this weekend!
Lawd have mercy….I see I didn’t miss Calvin Klein week; I just jumped ahead…..
I’m afraid “Mom Brain” has taken hold this week! ๐
Better early than never ๐
Happy Friday everyone! Wearing Guerlain Apres lโOndee. It would be perfect if it had better longevity on me.
Agreed! !!!! ๐
I don’t think I have a perfect scent, although Ormonde Woman is close. But it’s a bit too warm to wear that today and I’m saving the last sample dose of that for a better day. Didn’t get much sleep last night and feeling generally bleh, but at least it’s Friday!
I’m in Chloe – sticking to the minis/samples I’ve committed to using up. A good friend of mine gave me her mini of this that came in a packaged set with her full bottle. It’s her signature scent and while I like it well enough, it’s not FB worthy to me.
OJ Woman is on my top 5 perfect list too. Beautiful.
I am wearing Heure Exquise and did a small experiment: on one arm layered it with Profumo’s Mysore sandalwood (I have 2 ml), and on the other with Rose Delight body oil, to bring out the sandalwood or rose. And on another part of my arm I just spritzed it as it is, current EdP version.
Verdict: it is perfect, rose or sandalwood don’t add anything. I only wish I had the dry body oil. It is still my HG.
Good choice.
I love Heure Exquise, and thank you for sharing your experiment! Now I know not to waste my time or my other perfumes in performing this myself!
Happy to oblige!
U do smell wonderful- I’m so happy that u introduced me to this perfect perfume!
Are you ok Mayfly after these difficult months? Hope Heure Exquise helped a bit, somewhat of a panacea if you ask me ๐
True, Heure Exquise is perfect, period. The vintage version with real sandalwood is unbeatable, and yet I also love the 2009 version in its own right. Haven’t tried the most recent version, though.
I had a tiny sample of that HE dry body oil, and it was so very good. Of course, being a galbanum fiend, I found myself liking the dry body oil *despite* its not having much if any galbanum, almost like it was another fragrance entirely.
I saw it on Ebay for 200 dollars…too much! But if I had money to burn…What is your fav galbanum perfume?
PSA- Nubian Heritage Soap (discussed on a prior thread a few days ago) is not only discounted at vitacost.com but 20% off with code PAMPER20…if anyone is interested ๐
OMG! I know what I am doing on my lunch break!
LOL! I was thinking of you as I posted that this morning ๐
It is a pretty amazing sale….
Oh and the Weleda body washes, hand creams and body lotions (I think Robin likes the scent of one of them) are also on sale and 20% off the sale price with the code….
The Sea Buckthorn!
After almost ordering Marni online, but talking myself out of it — it disappeared really quickly in Canada and couldn’t find it during my Las Vegas or NOLA trips — I recently found Marni Spice at a discount beauty place in Buffalo, not particularly discounted. I think I liked it better than original Marni – more cardamom but still the cool rose effect. Should have bought it, but didn’t.
I tried to find Marni from Canada the other day because of a recommendation on NST but couldn’t find it either. I guess I’ll have to file it away for trips to the US.
Oh, well drat then — love cardamom. But thanks!
I’m in vintage Le Dix EDT, which would be perfect if it were still made. Ah well. It’s particularly powdery this morning – not at all a bad thing since it’s supposed to be over 100 degrees here today, and the powder note gives me the illusion I’m staying cool and dry.
After reading Erin’s description of Marni Spice, I think I may have to try it. Cardamom and rose – yum.
You smell amazing!
Love Le Dix….such a beautiful scent….
SL De Profundis. I wish the bell jars came in spray bottles, and that De Profundis were a bit stronger.
You smell great. The last time I was at Aedes, the SA said that they were going to get them with some kind of spray mechanism. That would be good ( and dangerous ๐ ).
Could not agree more regarding the spray bottles.
You smell amazing today and I also wish I could get De Profundis in a spray bottle.
It comes in the black spray bottle at the moment! At least I saw it a month ago in this format.
I don’t know if it’s available in the US. Maybe the more metropolitan areas? Unfortunately, nothing close to where I live.
Agreed!
ELdO Jasmin et Cigarette which would be perfect if they amped up the jasmine. As it is, it feels watered down so I layer it with either Lush Lust, Diptyque EI Jasmin(which IS my perfect jasmine and used that today), or some cheapie jasmine fragrance oil which is a fresher, greener jasmine. I feel like they should pay me for improving their formula ๐
๐
Agreed!
Ditto!
I like it as it is, but will now try with Lust!
My recollection when I first sampled it over a year ago was that it had more heft than the bottle I own. Could have been my imagination, however. I still love it, though.
Wearing Parure today, inspired by the evil STC email which caused me to spend money before I had coffee this morning. I wouldn’t do anything to the scent itself, but I would totally magic-wand a huge bottle into my collection.
Yep, I do believe I’m going to be spending some money today because of that email, too
Yes, but you’re probably being sensible and waiting until you’re awake. I had to check my confirmation email to be sure I hadn’t done anything too stupid. ๐
I did go over and check out the sale, but there’s no Guerlain I’m really missing, except Charnel Elixir Floral Romantique, and they DON’T HAVE IT. (Of course it’s one they don’t have, Murphy’s Law being in effect. ๐ )
It’s not that I own a lot of Guerlains, but the ones I want a decant of, I already have – Apres l’Ondee, Attrape-Coeur, and Vega. Oh, and Chamade, but I have a bottle of that (eBay!).
I have most of the ones I’m interested in, too. Problem is, haven’t stumbled across my dream of a $5 bottle of Parure and I’ve always been curious about the various colognes that are so reasonably priced…
I thought you were wearing something that begins with m and rhymes with Parure. I re-read, whew!
Ha! I come from a long line of farmers so it wouldn’t be the first time. Parure smells A LOT better, though.
Today I’m wearing Chanel Pour Monsieur. My decant is almost finished, so perfection would be to have a small bottle.
You smell nice and cozy.
I liked Marni and liked Marni Spice even more. I just got a sample of Rose Delight and I can’t wait to try layering.
Thrilled to be back home from a conference in Orlando that was really, really trying. There was a little too much partying in the evenings, and I saw the really unpleasant side of some people’s personalities (publicly humiliating others, making fun of womens’ looks because they weren’t “feminine” enough). In light of it, being at work is a bit uncomfortable, so I’m bypassing “almost perfect” and going straight for scents I’m excited about.
Wearing Hilde Soliani Untitled No. 7 and it’s absolutely dreamy. I picked up two scent-filled packages from the mailbox this morning, and it just about brought tears to my eyes, it was so kind and wonderful. Thanks for brightening my day! Happy Friday!
My condolences on having to spend time with coworkers outside of work.
Been there, done that!
Not gon’ happen agin !!!! ๐
Ugh, agreed. Some of my co-workers are literally the finest humans in Oregon, but I have worked with people who were just banally evil (and I don’t use that phrase lightly).
Ugh, as the wise man said “Familiarity breeds contempt.” I keep work and personal life separate for this reason, but that’s kind of hard to do if you have to go conferencing together. Hope the awkwardness eases up soon. That rose delight is calling my name, but then I have to remind myself I don’t like rose all that much…
I got impatient and just tested Rose Delight for the first time. It is *delicious*
It is, isn’t it? More delicious than some of those colleagues!
I think you should get it for your upcoming trip…are you excited???????
Very much so! Pretty sure I will break into tears! Still haven’t decided what to take perfume-wise…
Oh, how utterly disappointing to see those ugly sides of people we work with, especially when it comes to ingrained sexism/racism. Keep in mind that being kind and polite in your interactions will make the awkwardness better to bear.
Looking at the notes for Hilde Soliani Untitled No. 7, I am intrigued and this seems to be calling my name.
You always smell lovely. So, I’ll add the Hilde Soliani to my list.
Recover fast from the conference. Agree totally with Ede97005. I’ve found that some people don’t seem that impressive at work, but more reasonable socially. Then others are reliable worker bees and tend to judge everyone else publicly after they’ve kicked back a glass of wine.
So, a little insight from a conference helps understand the work dynamic better. Then it’s time for it all to end!
Ugh! I hope these people are counterbalanced by others who are worth working with, and that forewarned is fore armed.
Good to know about that Hilde Soliani. I keep forgetting about the brand although I’ve liked most of the ones I’ve sampled.
I don’t think I’m in any position to critique a perfume composition or suggest adjustments to it. So I’m wearing some vintage Rochas Femme, which is already perfect as perfect can be. If only they made it like this again!
I have a sample of the current formulation, and every time I sniff it I try to imagine what the vintage is like. I’m sure you smell phenomenal! ????
Nowhere near perfection, but. . . wearing Pure Poison this morning. I really like the top, not so sure about the middle.
I think Pure Poison should get perfection points just for the bottle. The scent is pretty too.
SOTD will be Onda VdE after my post-spin shower. It’s COMPLELETY perfect but would be EXTRA COMPLETELY perfect if I had a FB ????
I agree with every word, and double agree with the capitalised ones!
I’m wearing Versense today. I keep thinking that I love it until I wear it, based mainly on the way it smells when I first put it on. The first blast is great. Then the fig kicks in, and the sour, musty smell takes it from love to like. If they got rid of the fig it would be great. Hey Robin, have you ever done a Friday project on the one note that you hate in everything except one specific perfume?
Parfum des Merveilles is my almost perfect SOTD. The only thing I’d change would be to add a hint of sparkle and a little more throw. This is easily remedied with a spritz of EDT.
Happy Friday!
Good choice!
I’m wearing I Am A Dandelion today, because it’s been a long, long time since the last time I wore it and I found myself missing it, and because it goes both with “mild headache” and “working outdoors this morning.” It’s also a near-perfect representation of the scent of a dandelion flower, so there.
Terracotta and Habit Rouge decants on the way, thanks to Holly’s PSA. ๐
You smell strange and wonderful!
Today is Coco Chanel’s Birthday.. So I am in honour wearing a spritz of Chanel Pour Monsieur.
Happy Birthday, Madamemoiselle!!!!
Feminite du Bois: I love this fragrance and it is pretty much perfect for me, I just want there to be more of that smell! I want it to be intense! I’m sure the original version (I have the current SL one) was stronger, but I’m afraid to try it – other than being a bit too faint, I truly enjoy the reformulation and I’m afraid of ruining our relationship.
I’ve never smelled the Shiseido either, and like the current version. But next time I’m in a shop that carries SL, I want to try layering it with Bois et Fruits. I suspect that combo might be good!
I am in No 19 Poudre for what would of been Coco’s birthday- happy birthday to her wherever she may be.
Have a great weekend everyone
You smell wonderful! 19 Poudre is my favorite Chanel.
Chanel No. 19 edt vintage, which is pretty much perfect. I thought about this challenge and considered wearing Mary Greenwell Plum (needs a bit more moss), but it’s 19 Day and I don’t want to pass up that chance.
Yes, it must be perfect.
Almost twins
Wearing Tom Ford Black Orchid today. I wish it had a bit more meaty truffle or something savory to cut the fruity sweetness a touch. Or perhaps some salty licorice. Still, Tom was right when he called it a modern classic, though when he said that at launch, I think we all rolled our eyes.
I love Black Orchid too. If I could change one thing about it, it would be much less strong!
Ah, Tom Ford!
I think that people did roll their eyes because the dude is so self possessed, and so stunningly handsome that it was taken as arrogance. When in fact it was incredible self confidence stemming from his good connections, hard work and home stability (having a partner for almost 30 years, the very same person you fell in love with at first sight, can really fortify a person.)
And yes- I do agree it’s a modern classic, much in the way that CK Obsession is.
Happy Friday.
1) It’s gonna be 101F today. After work I am hanging out at the pool.
2) I was gonna wear something light and spicy in honor of Dune (like Black Jade) but it’s just too darn warm.
3) SOTD: Sycamore, which is pretty darn perfect, but is even more perfect with a bit of jasmine. So I layered Molinard’s Jasmine with Sycamore, and now am wearing a very sexy (to me) and perfect tropical scent.
4) OOTD: Blue silk tank top and white pants. Iced coffee and water at the ready!
SOTD is MFK’s Ciel de Gum. It is pretty much a perfect scent, great on men and women, and long-lasting. I wish it didn’t cost $300.00 for 2.5 oz. and I wish it had a prettier name (even though it was named as an exclusive to the Gum department store in Russia).
It is pretty perfect in spite of its name.
Wow- that sounds so exotic and mysterious!
You smell divine. I went through so much stress getting the bootle to get it at a better price than what OsswaldNYC was charging for it.
SOTD is Bvlgari “Black”. With apologies to it’s fans out there, I’m now going to pretend to take part in the community project:
This is so great! To make it perfect, all they need to do is:
1. Make it smell of SOMETHING! ANYTHING!
2. Make it last LONGER THAN 10 SECONDS!
What can I say? Haters gonna hate…
In other perfume news, I got 5ml minis of both Joop! “What about Adam” and Romรฉo Gigli “per uomo” from eBay. Of course they could be spoiled or fakes, but it will be fun to see what I think of these now I actually know a little bit more about perfumes than I did back in the nineties when I wore them. :^)
The first few times I smelled Black I couldn’t smell anything either. I hope your nose undergoes the transformation mine did! Now it’s one of my favorites.
Well, maybe, but I have such an accumulation of samples, so if something fails it’ll be a long time before it gets a 2nd chance. Al the more for the fans, eh? :^)
Back home and slipped into something a little more comfortable – shorts and a sweater, and a blast of N-Cigale’s “Pin Mystic”. Pine and incense and happiness. :^)
Bvlgari Black – I find that the way to go is spray lavishly to the point of asphyxia…like Chergui.
Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur Extrait. It’s the perfection of Mohur, which I sprayed on the other wrist just for verification!
It would be absolutely perfect if it were not so expensive. Perhaps cost per wearing in comparison to other fragrances may not be very different.
I agree
Mmmmm yes, this was a definite contender for me, too!
Perfect — I wore it earlier this week!
I have no idea why STC is not going to be carrying the Guerlain line anymore except that whoever owns Guerlain must have sent out a C&D letter like Chanel did. I loaded up on Liu, vintage Misouko and Apres L’Ondee. Yeah, it’s already bad enough this perfume quarter with my ordering of a full bottle of Beloved and I actually found a 9 ounce bottle on E-Bay of vintage Bal in PdT form. It’s going to be tough to justify ISM for a birthday present next month. I might have to push that back to Christmas. So my Amex card isn’t too happy with me.
I’m sitting in the dry down on Lyric right now and after my shower, I will continue on with it.
I was wondering the same thing!! I am ordering some Guerlain for sure
Ignorant person is ignorant:
Who or what is STC?
Surrender to chance=decant perfume website.
Thanks! I forgot about that site!
That’s probably a good thing????
Surrender to Chance. It’s a website that sells decants or samples of perfume. Much cheaper than buying full bottles blind.
9 ounces of Bal a Versailles?
Well-played !
I think I’ll wear that tomorrow!
๐
Get this, there are 4 1/2 ounce bottles of the PdT on E-Bay and they go for around $600. But I found this 9 ounce bottle for $100. The color looks like it should for vintage Bal of Versailles and I snapped it up. I know a bargain when I see one for vintage Bal.
I think Love, Chloe is perfectly easy and beautiful and relatively inexpensive.
I totally agree Tara. I love this one, but hear it is being discontinued.
Oh No. Time for a backup!
In the smallest spritz of Cuir de Lancome on Perfect Friday. I wouldn’t change a thing and thankfully, I have enough on-hand to last a lifetime.
Enjoy this beautiful day, wherever you may be!
God, how i love Cuir de Lancome, and what would make it perfect is if they MADE MORE OF IT.
I’m with u Ede, CDL really is perfect.
I feel the smallest twinge of guilt in saying that I have 12 bottles. CdL and vintage Guerlain Vetiver, I’ve hoarded. Shameless. lol!
Wow ! LOL
Truth be told, I probably have that many bottles of Shalimar, amongst the various concentrations. But if I don’t count them, i don’t really know. Now do I ? LOL
Laughing at myself, not you. ๐
Enjoy! !!
Now I know why it was out of stock recently! ????
I took advantage of a online etailer’s pricing mistake. They had it listed for $29.95 at the time, so I bought a bunch. They soon caught the error and it was never offered at that price again!
Yes, I probably got mine at the same time and place! I’ve been keeping an eye on it, and now it’s out of stock. I’ve been kicking myself for only ordering one!
I bought a bottle blind from a discounter early on (yeah, something like $30) and loved it so much I had to buy another one. And then another! One of them is almost used up now, sigh.
It’s a little too much for me in August, but I’m looking forward to getting it out soon. It’s so great in autumn.
Perfect!
Wearing Bois Farine by L’Artisan Parfumeur. To make it better, if I could, I would get read of that faint wet cardboard smell that I am getting from every lAP perfume.
I am wearing Jour Parfum today…
Not unlike Mary Poppins, it is practically perfect in every way.
It has a bit more heft than the EDP although I wouldn’t say a person needs both necessarily. I saw online somewhere that Jour Gardenia may have been discontinued btw…
Happy Friday to you all!
Not surprised if Hermes did discontinue the Jour Gardenia. For me, the Jour d’Absolu, after its radiant floral top and middle, became complete gardenia, gardenia, gardenia all the way, with no other notes in the drydown which lasted forever on me.
SOTD will be Light Blue. I resisted this purchase for years because it was “too mainstream,” “too popular,” “too recognizable.” Well this summer I caved and it really is the almost perfect summer scent. It’s almost perfect due to longevity, I wish I would get a little more mileage out of the initial application. I have considered layering it with their lotion to see if it would last longer…
I never much liked Light Blue…except that I somehow drained the travel spray in record time ๐
Seville A L’Aube for me today, perfect on a rainy summers day.
The imperfection for me is that it can make me feel a little queasy in hot weather, only sometimes tho.
My bottle of Seville a l’Aube came in the mail today, so that’s what I’m wearing too. It smells perfect for right now, anyway.
I’m wearing Montale’s Full Incense. It would be very close to a perfect Catholic incense if I didn’t have Avignon on my dresser.
Orlov Cross of Asia which would be perfect if it was half the price
I agree!
Happy Friday, NST! And hello to the San Diegans! (I’m visiting for a few days.)
My scent for today is a bit of L’Heure Bleue. It’s 100% perfect; I wouldn’t dare change a thing. To be fair, it’s one of only two perfumes I have with me on my trip, so I didn’t have many choices today. But I suppose I’ll just have to suffer with something totally perfect instead of something almost perfect. ????
Such a beautiful fragrance!
Fracas.Perfect as it is.
Definitely! You smell great!
Thank you for not trying to change Fracas ๐
Atelier Colognes Trefle Pur makes me smile every time. I wanted more citrus today, so I topped it with Grand Neroli. I smell like I climbed an orange tree then rolled in clover. Happy Friday, NST!
Thanks everyone for yesterday’s lovely support. I feel better today and wanted a cheerful fragrance that can help me endure 100+F temps, so I am in the nearly-perfect Acqua Viva. If only citrus notes lasted longer! Acqua Viva will stick 4-5 hours on me but I would love more time with this luscious tart lemon.
I read your post from yesterday early this morning. Sending comforting energy to you and wishes of peace to your mother. I’m glad your hear your perfume is uplifting.
I read yesterday’s post today, foxbins. You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers, and your mom as well. Sending you a big hug and hopes that you and yours are finding peace during such a difficult time.
Oh, I’m sorry to read your news. Sending you hugs and wishing you strength and endurance to get through this tough time.
Ha! I wore Acqua Viva last Saturday and Sunday but was perplexed that it did not last too long on me — unlike when I tried it at Fumerie — I was walking around smelling of tart tart lemon for quite a long time. Maybe more sprays but this makes me sneeze, a lot, in the first few minutes.
You and your family are in my prayers.
Again, feeling indecisive, so have spritzed chilled Mandragore before a final decision for going out.
P.S. Wouldn’t the Marni model be much more comfy lying on a tiled floor during the summer?
How is Mandragore? That is one of the few Annick Goutals I am not familiar with….
I decided to wear Le Labo Vanille 44 on one wrist, Eau Duelle edt on the other and then realized I have a sample of Guerlain Tonka Imperiale which is sprayed on top of my hand. They are all delicious and perfect in air conditioning.
But what I’m excited about, Robin, was your Marni/Tauer Rose oil idea. I had been so interested in trying Marni and bid a few times on eBay, finally getting a wonderful deal. Once I sniffed it, it was nice but I wasn’t in love. Now I have a new project. “Everything’s better with Blue Bonnet [or Tauer Rose body oil] on it!”
Just received Eau Duelle today. I did a blind buy – I know that is not a good move, but did it anyway. I think I like it and it should be good for the fall and winter seasons.
Did you buy edt or edp? I just bought a decant and they only had edt. It does seem very similar to Le Labo Vanille but not as lasting or . But sometimes decants have shorter life for some reason. If I were to buy this blind in a FB, I might have wanted the edp.
Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist is my SOTD. It really is perfect just as it is. I wish is that I could find it in a spray bottle and that it was available in the US. Happy Friday All!
They carry it at Aedes de Venustas and at Barney’s!
Thanks Elisa. I’ll look into that!
PURRFECT!
Feu d’Issey Miyake…perfect but discontinued and my last bottle is almost gone. Thanks everyone for your birthday greetings. Had a great, very quiet, day topped off by watching a DVD of Olive Kitteridge series. So good. Didn’t buy the flowers but picked a bunch of gorse and the house smells like Lush Furze. Happy weekend!
I’m sorry I missed it yesterday, Kanuka! Belated Happy Birthday! I’m glad you enjoyed the day.
Belated birthday wishes from me as well. Wishing you a wonderful and creative, sweet-smelling year ahead!
Belated happy birthday! I’m sorry I missed that yesterday, I’m rather behind on NST at the moment. I’ll blame my disorganisation on being on holiday last week.
Happy belated birthday and how wonderful was Olive Kitteridge? Quiet, simmering, deep, scared and strong. And loved the version of Olivia Newton-John’s “Magic” sung by Martha Wainwright and her songstress character.
SL Chene over a little Monoi oil and the only thing that’s not perfect about this situation is the fact that it is no longer available in the export bottles. I came to everything too late.
We are “I came to everything too late” twins! ????
Triplets. That could be the title of my autobiography. ????
We can all collaborate on a series ๐
The title of my autobiography!
In my on-again off-again relationship frag, Nicolai’s Weekend (In Normandy). Today it is perfect. Wish it was a more consistent love.
I purchased this when I was in Paris last November at her shop no less. Actually my husband bought it because he liked it so much. I’ve not worn it once yet. ๐
SOTD is AG Songes edp, a surprising deep love of mine, since I (intensely) dislike most white florals. Songes is a favorite of mine for warm summer nights at an outdoor concert (our last Friday-night-concert-in-the-park is tonight, so rhis IS perfect!) and it’s also a favorite of mine on a very cold but sunny January day.
I don’t know why, but whenever I wear Songes I always dress completely in white -summer or winter – and its only ‘imperfection’ is that the liquid has changed to a deep red (which I’ve read somewhere happens as the fragrance ages), so I have to be careful when I spray. Not too much of a problem, since I spray skin only before I dress, never clothes, but I just have to be careful with any touch-ups.
One of my favourite Goutals, you smell wonderful.
Sotd is Safran troublant from L’Artisan. I think it’s heavenly. Almost the best scent ever, but. I want to ad a smidgeon of chewy marzipan. A depth of toasted almond to ground it a teensy bit.
Also. I really like Deep red from Hugo Boss. But every time I wear it, I wish it was made with high quality ingredients. It would really make the composition rise to a higher level. It deserves better.
Love Safran Troublant but doesn’t last long on me. 8 sprays = 4 hours at most
My SOTD is AG Nuit Etoilee. To me, this scent is perfection. I can’t think of anything I’d change
Tom Ford’s new Orchids Soleil presents some “transition” issues: Orchid tuber similar to naphthalene?
????
I get naphthalene from indolic jasmine. I don’t see jasmine in the notes list. It could be the tuberose.
One of my greatest disappointments is Guerlain Vetiver pour Elle. A floral vetiver is a fantastic idea, and I think I would love this if it did not have way too much modern musk.
Chanel 28 la Pausa is an iris vetiver that has the right balance, but I want a non-iris floral vetiver, too! Everyone complains about its longevity, but I spray it on the nape of my neck, where it lasts longer on my hair, or on clothing, which also extends its duration. Or I wear it when I want to start the day with a boost but want to be discreet later.
Also, those horrible spiky woods that perfumers try to use instead of real sandalwood, etc., are completely ruined for me. AG Matin d’Orage is an example where the spiky scent grows stronger every time I wear it. Too bad!
Like a few others, I don’t feel quite to put my finger on anything precisely with many perfumes that don’t quite grab me, but there are lots I would love to last longer, and that were cheaper.
Wearing Hermes Jour Absolu today, courtesy of Kanuka, and it is lovely.
SOTD = Indult Tihota
Perfect vanilla. 3 spritzes from a FB last all day. Amping up to 4 will not offend.
I celebrated a work milestone anniversary today and I took full advantage of the occasion to mark it with, what else, a perfume purchase. I got 2 during the Saks Gift Card Event: Prada Purple Rain and Prada infusion d’Iris Oeillet plus a shower gel of the original Prada Infusion d’Iris. Ah! Confession, it’s good for the soul!
That must be some work milestone ๐ Congratulations to you!
Enjoy your celebratory new scents!
Yes it is…I told people I started when I was 5 years old ๐
Congratulations posted below!!
Congratulations, and good call on choosing perfume as a reward! ????
Congrats! and you rewarded yourself quite well ๐
Congratulations! Your employer must be thrilled to have you and your skills and dedication.
Saks must be thrilled that you spend part of the brilliantly earned paycheck in their perfume department ๐ !
Posted for Hajusuuri’s milestone…
LOL…and thanks. I like BG’s gift card event better because BG takes the value of the gift card out of the total when you make a qualifying purchase whereas Saks gives you a gift card to spend later so effectively, while a $100 gift card on a $500 purchase looks like 20% off, in reality, assuming no tax, you have to spend $600 to get the $100 which is 17%; with NYC tax, that discount drops down to just a hair above 15%.
Your math at six in the morning is making my head spin ๐
:-). I just got a note that the BG event will be from Sept 11-17!
Congratulations hajusuuri !
Excellent rewards program.
