Friday, yay! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance from perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I meant to wear Maison Francis Kurkdjian Pluriel, and I swear I packed it, but I have not been able to find it as of yet. Instead I'm wearing Hermès Jardin Sur Le Nil body lotion mixed with some Aura Cacia Frankincense oil, and hopefully I'll be able to switch to the Pluriel tonight. (Meantime, thank you to everyone who wished me a happy vacation yesterday, and sorry I never managed to chime in on the scent of the day at all. We did not have WiFi access.)
Reminder: on 8/12 we're doing Fabulous but fleeting — wear a perfume you love even though it doesn't last as long as it should. Suggested by Mariann.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In honor of my Mother and johanob’s Mother I am wearing 1960’s Shalimar EDC.
This formulation is the most leather/animalic/civet on my skin.
It is a beautiful day and I shall enjoy it.
I hope everyone else will be fortunate enough to do the same.
🙂
Sending good wishes to you and Johanob.
And that formulation sounds amazing.
Perfect tribute.
What a lovely gesture.
Also wearing Shalimar in her honor! Vintage extrait because mothers deserve it.
Very sweet of you!
Thank you Everyone!
NST people are the best !
🙂
I love the vintage postcard visuals.
I am wearing Kenzo Eau de Fleurs Magnolia. Very nice.
I am drinking some iced Yunnan green tea.
I am drinking some truly horrid tea from a nearby restaurant.
If you like vintage postcards, do highly recommend the Boston Public Library’s flickr collection, which is actually incredible for all sorts of vintage things.
I came across this article by the late Christopher Hitchens this week and thought the tea lovers of NST (which is at least half of us) might enjoy:
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/fighting_words/2011/01/how_to_make_a_decent_cup_of_tea.html
Ha…I am a tea snob but he is surely worse! And it would appall him to learn that I do like to put a splash of half & half in my tea. At least I don’t put it in first…
You do you, Robin!
Crikey, poor old Christopher does thunder on a bit, doesn’t he? Sadly, I find myself agreeing with him about quite a lot, but I wish I didn’t because he really does pontificate! Chez Waterdragon we make tea pretty much as he lays the law down, with leaves not bags, in a pre-warmed pot, and drink it very hot with a tiny dash of non-fat milk. We don’t have the fancy teas you guys do, just a good blend of an everyday single-estate Ceylon sold by Mr Dilmah. I sometimes have Lapsang Souchong or Earl Grey, but the dear one views such things with deep, deep suspicion, so they’re a solitary pleasure. I love my cups of tea, so refreshing, but I’d never inflict the Waterdragon style on any other household.
For desperation tea I recommend St. Dalfour Organic Classic Breakfast. It is just in regular paper/cotton teabags, but in airtight outer individual bags. I always have a couple of sachets in my bag–it is better than the Teavana bags they hawk at Starbucks imo.
Thank you, I will have to see if I can find those here. I brought all my tea with me, and that’s what I’ll drink when we get into our rental house on Saturday. Unfortunately none of it is in tea bags so meantime I am at the mercy of restaurants. Our (obviously not luxury) hotel has hot water and lipton tea bags. I can’t remember the brand of English Breakfast I was given at a restaurant this morning, but it was not delicious.
Vitacost sells several St Dalfours and they are highly affordable….I happen to like their organic Earl Grey….
Yes, sadly, vacation = bad tea. The price we pay for diversion. 🙁
Happy FriYAY everyone!!
I have a sample of Lumiere Noire Pour Femme, but it’s too strong for the office. The Perfume Grinch would be hissing at me all day! LOL!!
SOTD: Calyx. Maybe the Kurkdjian later tonight! 🙂
Love Calyx, you smell great!
LNPF is pretty darned strong. I put on a few dabs last evening because I knew it would be too much for a summer day here. You definitely don’t want to make the Grinch hiss! ????
I love LNpf but deliberately didn’t wear it to band camp this morning because there are two other booster parents with migraine issues… and it’s a wafter.
TGIF! SOTD is APOM Pour Homme (Maison Francis Kirkdjian). 🙂
I searched for my sample of this to wear this week, but it has wondered off to join the tribe unpaired socks, my cd of Blonde on Blonde, and the screw on shaker cap to my grandmother’s pressed glass salt shaker.
You smell great.
Ha, there is definitely one of those rebel object brigades hiding out in my house somewhere, too. 😉
Stealing this phrase. Giving you credit.
I was wondering where solo socks go to hang out. 😀
Haha!
No FK I have tried has worked on my skin at all, especially, Feminine Pluriel. Maybe his next effort will appeal.
SOTD = Classic Chanel #5. Long work week, I needed a little fortifying. Looking forward to the weekend.
We are opposites — it is my favorite of his line so far 🙂
Good luck with the fortifying!
I didn’t get along with Feminine Pluriel either. Srubbed it off.
I’m wearing MFK Aqua Vitae Forte. Perfect for this warm, sunny summer Friday.
That’s a good one, you smell great! SOTD – a light touch of MFK oud satin mood.
I like it even more as the day goes on.
The only FK fragrance I had in my perfume collection was Lily Chic which was drained years ago….could not even eek out some vapors!
So…as usual…SOTD is Assam of India….testing on my right wrist a blend I made for a girlfriend I am meeting later for lunch….essential oils of vanilla. coconut pulp, lavender. frankincense, bitter almond and Egyptian musk…..giving it a test run before I gift it to her 🙂
Happy Friday, y’all!
You smell amazing!!
Assam of India sample on the way.
Have a great weekend.
Hope you like it as much as I do! It has become a summer staple and the bottle is so visually appealing to me 🙂
YOU too have a lovely weekend!
Typhoid Holly at work, I see 😉
Sampling Ferre Rose (by Alexandra Jouet and Francis Kurkdjian) today. So far I am very unimpressed. First, a burst of a very synthetic sweetness, then it was joined by equally synthetic freshness. I guess it’s not for me.
Not worth it, you say? It is at a discounter for peanuts but perhaps I should forgo it.
Well, it has a lot of positive reviews on Fragrantica, so maybe you will like it. My nose (or maybe skin) does not like fruity notes much, so maybe I am just unable to appreciate this scent. Now, more than two hours after application, I smell a sweet rose fragrance from my wrist. There is still something I do not like in it, but it is at least tolerable at this stage. And, thankfully, it is not a heavy fragrance.
So I would not recommend it, but to be fair it is not my type.
I don’t have a single Kurkdjian scent: I have a sample of Gaultier Le Mâle somewhere but I just can’t find it. I stumbled on a sample of Lutens’ Sa Majesté La Rose while hunting, so I’m wearing that, and it is a huge, amazing rose scent.
I put on MFK Oud Satin Mood in the morning – this is the only MFK I’ve worn several times and clearly remembered liking (I somehow keep confusing them and not remembering the ones I’ve tried). But it smelled sweeter today than usual, so thought I’d give Baccarat Rouge a try. Well, I should have checked first, as this one is even sweeter.
Both are good scents, however, and I smell nice, even if not exactly how I intended.
(Have a lovely vacation, Robin!)
Thank you! So far, so good, and the weather is perfect.
Did not love BR either.
My sister really loves Satin Mood, and perhaps some day she’ll even be able to afford it. It does smell nice, although on me it is both sweet and slightly scratchy.
Twins today Annikky! I woke up not feeling too well and just wore Caudalie dry oil. Now I feel a lot better and added a drop or two of Oud Satin Mood. Not unpleasantly sweet on me today fortunately.
Hah! Wonderful. It *is* a nice scent, somehow just not perfect for today. Sorry you had a bad morning.
Just getting home from work. I only have two Kurkdjian fragrances, and one I hate. So I wore Absolue pour le Soir, which was a bit much in this heat!
Scent twins! I planned on this one for today and applied it early in hopes that I can enjoy it and it will waft discreetly under 3/4 length sleeves.
Happy Friday!
Triplets!
I too thought about AplS today, but the forecast is 94 degrees and high humidity, so went with APOM PH instead. Can’t wait for things to cool off a bit to enjoy the AplS “skankfest”. 🙂
This was the only FK I had, and then just a sample. Having moved away from orientals over the last 5-10 years, I suspect there is an epigenetic marker for the preference of lighter flavors and scents that appears when we move to a warmer climate, i.e. the American south. 🙂 As good a theory as any (unless there’s one based on age).
Hi everyone! I haven’t commented in forever, just super busy with new job and new baby. But I’ve been lurking 🙂 I just happened to be wearing A la Rose, so I figured I’d chime in. It’s not my favorite rose, but it’s nice. Very polished and ladylike 🙂
New job and new baby is plenty on your plate already! But you smell lovely.
Congrats on the baby! Fantastic news. So many people on this blog have had kids recently: me about 6 mos ago
Congratulations and you smell delightful!
Well done for participating!
Hugs and congratulations!
Friday! Not a moment too soon.
I’m wearing MDCI Enlevement au Serail. I’ve progressed through the spectrum with this perfume; from the first burst of desire when I read all the five-star reviews, then bought a sample, then was mildly nonplussed (“what’s all the fuss about, this is quite ordinary”), then growing appreciation, and now I’m just in love. I no longer remember what I didn’t like about it at first.
Twins! It is quite a complex perfume and the opening can be a wee bit off-putting. I love it though. And these days I think it has replaced Promesse as my favourite MDCI.
In Aqua di Gioa today- not participating.
It’s breastfeeding week so meatball and I are going to attend some events today and this weekend. My husband is supportive so he took the day to watch my other monkey while I am out and about.
Have a good weekend everyone!
Good stuff!! My hubby was also 100% supportive of nursing….and with his help I nursed anywhere and everywhere I needed to! Enjoy!
SOTD is MFK Amyris, which smelled amazing on my husband but is maybe not so much on me.
I think that is a really nice one but for some reason never quite buy it – maybe too sweet or not quite something enough? Anyway you do smell good.
SOTD MFK Amyris homme. Just a light dusting as I have to work and I find this one quite loud and a little screechy. Should have gone with Pluriel. ????
SOTD is APOM by MFK. This is probably my favorite out of all of his fragrances. But, he sure does make a lot of good stuff!
Have a good vacation Robin!
Wearing Lady Vengeance today, which as I received as a lovely and generous gift. I’m not sure its for me, as nice as it is. As much as I love the name, the scent doesn’t seem to suit it on my skin – it’s soft, powdery, and not at all vengeful. Does anyone else have that experience with this one?
Also, an update on the roommate situation (because at the very least I seem to be providing entertainment on this score 🙂 ) – I sent him the nicest possible email in these circumstances, and he of course responded poorly, acting the victim, and saying he might not be able to be out until MID-NOVEMBER, and suggesting he’d had no opportunity to speak with me about this before now, which is obviously false because we live together. I wrote back once again, calling him out on every point, pointing out that he’d given me an earlier deadline of end of summer, and just generally not having it. We’ll see where this goes but yeah – I’m done with this. Get out of my house!
I am out of the loop, are you kicking your roommate out ?
I’m not kicking him out – here is the backstory: I have been living with this friend for many years, but he has a problem with anger issues and has been generally less than ideal to live with in recent times, especially since getting dumped in January. He was taking it out on me directly, and in April I said I couldn’t do it anymore and that we could no longer live together. I then started looking for a place but he said he would be the one to move out, and so I decided to wait it out until he left. He told me he would be gone by the end of the summer, but as I’ve tried to nudge him along, it now seems that mid-November is when he expects to leave. In the meantime, I spend as much time out of the house as possible and when I am home, I spend a fair amount of time in my room, because I never know when another temper tantrum is coming. I’ve been very patient, but I’m just exhausted now. I am desperate for space and to be able to be comfortable in my own home.
Even good friends aren’t substitutes for therapists. I hope your roommate finds a new place to live (and an even keel) soon.
Exactly. Thanks, and I hope so too!
Please make sure you are safe. If any part of your intuition is telling you that you might not be, don’t talk yourself out of it. I’m not trying to scare you, but often we tell ourselves we’re just being silly, when we should listen to our “little voices”.
No no – it’s nothing like that. I have been friends with this kid for 15 years, and I’m also physically larger than him. This is not about physical anger – this is about what amount to temper tantrums with no physical aspects to it. He’s just emotionally immature, and I’m not playing Mommy anymore.
When I said “taking it out on me,” I meant with rudeness and moodiness and such. Thanks so much for being concerned about my safety, but please rest assured – I’m fine! Just venting.
I of course don’t know your particular situation, but believe me, “essentially good” people who are immature will do the most psychological damage on you, exactly because they are essentially good, so you don’t want to just break with them completely and do something drastic, but they will take up your whole time and energy to have your own girlfriends/boyfriends because they are immature. I would just move out and regain my space and distance, so you two could interact like two independent people.
There is nothing wrong with venting, and I’m sure you can take care of yourself. Hope it gets resolved soon so you can reclaim your space.
Thank you, and very good luck to you. You would think he would want to be gone asap too, but for some reason that’s never the way it works out.
What he wants is for me to say “You can behave however you want and all is forgiven! I’ll continue being your surrogate mother for another ## years!” And I have declined, and now here we are.
Thanks for the good wishes!
Are you co- signers on the lease? Is the rent that good that he may be trying to get you to leave? Would consulting an attorney help? ( someone must know someone for advice before you actually need a real appointment 😉 )
I don’t think we need to take it to that level – he is a good kid at heart. He knows and has even previously acknowledged that he messed up, and that he needs to grow up and change his behavior. But I don’t think we have to live together for him to do it, and I really believe that this move will help him in the long run.
He and his mother have begun making bids on different places, and it is moving forward, but I really am hoping we don’t have to be living together until November.
Move out as soon as you can. Don’t count on him to move out.
He and his mother (who wants him to move out too) have been making bids on various places, so it is moving forward, so the issue is just a question of how quickly. If I move out now, then we both lose a great, fantastically cheap apartment, which in New York is no small thing!
Well, it depends on how much your sanity is affected, of course. But if you move out, he will stay, so he’s not gonna lose it. I was in a situation somewhat like that, the person never moved out despite all the promises.
There are very very few people in the world as patient and forgiving as you. Just think of how things would be if there were more of “you” strategically placed in critical mass in various regions 😉
No specific advice here. Just want to say, “Hang in there!”
Thank you!
Good for you, and I think it is great you can share your household drama with NST. I have great respect for your patience and kindness.
Long ago, when I was a senior in high school, three young people I knew came home to find their parents had changed the locks and parked their belongings on the front lawn right after they turned 18 years old. This was a result of the young person’s well-known and flagrantly inappropriate behavior. It was a bit shocking and sad, but their parents simply could not live with them any longer and stay sane. Sometimes things don’t improve and enough is enough.
I hope you find some moments of peace and some lovely treats for yourself in the coming days and weeks. You deserve them.
Thanks Tiffanie! I’m so sorry to hear about that situation with your three friends, especially because it sounds like they were being punished for one (very young) person’s bad behavior. Or perhaps I misread, but either way, living with other people can be a challenge sometimes.
Perhaps I’ve overshared here, but I do often gain a great deal of insight from my fellow NSTers, and the support is always amazing. My roommate is not a bad person, but does need to grow up. Hopefully this will help make it happen. And then, as for me – freedooooom!!
If you leave it up to him he won’t be out by mid-November either. He will give you another deadline…like after Christmas or New Year ‘when things settle down’. So good on you for being asserive. It’s been months,eh.
Well, his mother is involved in the purchase of a new place, and it sounds like they might be moving forward with paperwork. Also, I think my pushing yesterday maaay have put the fear of god into him. We’ll see. I told him I wasn’t sure if November was acceptable. 🙂
You are doing great!
Wishing you good luck and patience!
Well, mid-November would make for an especially meaningful Thanksgiving. 🙂
No FK in my vacation stash. I’m in a cooling blast of Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee.
Enjoy!
Iris Nobile edt. Happy Friday!
Twins! We smell great. 🙂
A day late, but triplets! I much prefer the discontinued edt to the edp. Fortunately, I have a big bottle 😉 .
I actually found six FK scents in my collection, three samples, two minis, and one full bottle. I chose to go with my favorite rose, Demeter Pruning Shears. There is just something about it. At first you think that it is a soliflore, but it really does have that metallic thing going for it.
Such a great scent — one of Demeter’s best.
I have one FK, a decant of Dior’s lovely Eau Noire, but it’s at home in England. So today I went with Maria Candida Gentile’s “Kitrea”, which is a fresh sour lemon washed in sea water. If it would only last better (and bear in mind, it probably will on most people) it would be a serious contender as a Summer seaside scent. Plus side: when it has vanished, I’ll replace with a different perfume for the evening. :^)
Eau Noire is great.
EN is my jam! Great when it’s a little muggy and rainy, like it is in Phoenix today. Almost wore Fate Woman, but made the last minute change. Glad I did!
Kitrea sounds wonderful. I love summer seaside scents.
It’s definitely worth trying; plus MCG does sensibly small sizes (not to enable or anything)
Do you get the curry from EN? I haven’t tried the perfume, just read reviews. I like the sound of lavender and licorice but the mention of maple syrup and curry in some reviews makes me wonder.
No, not at all; I do see the similarity with Amouage Sunshine Man but both are gorgeous on me. :^)
The only Francis Kirkdjian I have left this week is Absolu Pour le Soir, which I love but is too much for the office. Instead I’m wearing one of my summer favorites, AG le Ombre Dans l’Eau. I’ll participate by wearing APLS this evening (just a dab because I only have a small decant).
I’m wearing L’Ombre dans L’Eau as I have no Kurkdjian in my collection. I do have a funny story about one of his scents, though. A fumehead friend and I went on a sniffing jaunt last weekend, and he said, “Hey, try this Amyris Homme. It’s a dry, woody scent on me.” So I did, and about 20 minutes later my skin said, “OH HEY, THERE’S VANILLA IN THIS!” My friend couldn’t believe how different it smelled on me. (This may explain why Indult Tihota was a Massive Vanilla Cupcake Bomb on me. My skin apparently turns up certain vanillas to 11.)
I really love this story, and how you tell it.
Thanks!
But the question is, are you able to enjoy all that vanilla?
There was no doubt in my mind what I would wear today for FK challenge – Reve en Cuir by Indult! Love love love
I discovered Reve En Cuir during the Leather community project. Really love it, but it would clash with my shorts and T I plan on wearing today.
I wish I lived up (in terms of dressing) to my perfume more often 🙂
But that would ruin the hi/low of it!
I’ve two Kurkdjians: Carven Le Prfum Absolu which was a scrubber and APOM pour Femme which, also, was a scrubber in a big way (and a tenacious scrubber at that. It stayed on my jacket for aweek).
So I wore JM Pomegranate Noir with JM Grapefruit Cologne.
But, to go with the theme today I sprayed on s’more APOM pour Femme. It smells – rather loudly – like Veet depilating cream on me.
APOM smells like Veet? Argh. That’s an unpleasant surprise. You’re very brave. 😀
I really like Le Parfum – sorry it was a disaster for you!
No FK anywhere it looks. Will decide what to where after the weather decides what it wants to do.
Elie Saab Le Parfum for me today. Not weird or ground shaking but this is so darned pretty I’m glad to be wearing it.
Twins! You definitely do smell pretty.
Oh darn, I meant to wear an MFK – I actually have a few of his! But, instead I am wearing my new sample of CDG Grace. It’s very light, but very pretty. I think I might love it.
The only FK I’ve got is a manufacturer’s sample of Oud Satin Mood, which I don’t really care for (my sister loves it, and I’ve passed it on to her). Even if I did love it, I think it would be too hot. So, today I’m in La Chasse.
Haven’t decided yet if I’ll go outdoors today.
Iris Nobile parfum which probably isn’t MK but is beautiful. Why don’t I wear this more often? A great thing about these projects Robin is exactly that – you make sure we use all our perfumes and start wearing some we don’t for whatever reason. Have a wonderful holiday.
Are you wearing it in parfum version? Anyway you smell gorgeous.
I am thank you!
Have never tried the parfum – curious now!
Me too!
I didn’t know that an extrait ever existed. How does it compare to the EDP?
Wearing Eau Noire. I love that sourness in the opening. Just a really great summer masculine.
SMELL DORADO is brilliant!
Lindaloo is my favorite!
I’m wearing my only FK, Elie Saab Le Parfum.
My only is the L’Eau Couture, which makes it two weeks in a row for that scent!
Hi, twin, you smell great.
Tihota, which never fails to prompt a coworker to ask where the cupcakes are 🙂
Fragile from Jean Paul Gaultier is my SOTD
I like that one. You smell great!
Enlèvement au Sérail is my SOTD. Sorry to hear about your tea-situation Robin. I tend to travel with a number of tins of tea myself and recently even purchased a special infuser for thermos flasks, so I fully understand. Drinking a nice red Yunnan.
You smell ravishing!
Yes, I also travel with my own tea (also Yunnan and/or Keeumun). You can bring loose tea and then some of those little bags you can use to make your own tea bags.
I am wearing Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. Simple, uncomplicated, fresh for a day of running errands and then jogging in the park. Finally Friday. Enjoy!
Twins! I also have a flanker called Green Tea Camellia, which strikes me as odd because tea IS a camellia.
I had my first postdoc interview today!!!! I was super-duper discouraged right up until the interview, but the professor seemed really great and excited about me as a candidate. He…doesn’t currently have any money, but he wants to look for funding with me, which is the next best thing. But it really feels like an enormous weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I’ve got a LOT of work to do (we’re going to look at some collaborators and I need to put together a presentation for them, and then of course start writing grant proposals), but this is a wonderful first step 🙂
My mother has no FK scents, so I put on the first thing I came across: EL Pleasures! It’s a bit too clean for my mood–not nearly relieved or cheerful enough–but it’s still nice 🙂
Good news Koyel, great.
That’s great! I hope some money shows up soon.
Congratulations, Koyel!
So happy for you!
Yahoo! Good one.
Congratulations!!!
Yay! The team is rooting for you!
Happy Friday!
I started the Francis Kurkdjian project last evening with his MFK Lumiere Noire Pour Femme. Sadly, I finished off my bottle of Narciso Rodriguez For Her ages ago, so today I’m continuing with Elie Saab Le Parfum. I really like it, and Luca Turin gave it 4.5 bottles, so who am I to argue?
Have a great day, everyone!
Ugh…side-tracked by work this morning…
I am in Lumière Noire pour Femme today…happy Friday!!!
My favorite from MFK!
Mine as well.
You smell great!
Elie Saab L’Eau Couture. Sweeter than I generally like, but I do love almond. And it is so pleasant.
Sheet changing day. I have not found something that will make my sheets smell nice… We use unscented laundry detergent, and I find myself wanting something with scent. I sprayed a bunch of Eau du Cloitre cologne on the sheets/pillows.
Anyone have recommendations? I’m tempted by the Mrs Meyer’s scent powders…thinking of peony. Or the laundry detergent. Mainly because I bought the geranium hand soap and room spray and quite love it. So, I figure one of their scents for laundry might work well… Even if just for linens…
I bought a rose “bed and body mist” from Rituals on a whim not long ago, and I do like getting into bed immediately after spraying it, but I’m not sure how long it lasts. I’ll be looking at people’s responses on this one too.
I’m also tempted by the Couvent Sereine pillow mist…
I keep unwrapped bars of soap in my linen cupboard. After I wash and dry a set of sheets they go into the cupboard to soak up the scent for a few weeks.
This was a tradition in my childhood home. My mother said unwrapped bars of soap will harden over time then last longer in the bath. And scented sheets are a bonus. 😀
Thanks! If there’s one thing I have, it is scented bath soaps. My husband is the one who buys them….
I do that too. Another trick, although a little more expensive and fewer scent options, is to put incense sticks in with your sheets, or incense papers like Papier d’Armenie.
I sue the Meyers peony dish detergent and absolutely love the fragrance.
Ack! that would be “use” not “sue”
Do you dry your sheets outside? Just curious.
I have an orange / clove in my hot water cupboard ( you know, an orange stabbed with hundreds of cloves ) in winter, and a bunch of lavender in summer. Demeter laundromat also has a just washed and ironed laundry scent
I wish I could hang laundry outside. (I used to hang my whites outside in CA to get bleached by sun). But, alas, apartment in NYC… I also use the basement machines, which are good, just not mine.
I’m going to try the soaps, and possibly a scented dryer sheet in the linen closet for now. When it is time to buy new detergent, I may look around at scented…
Although….the Eau de Cloitre has worked nicely… It is a very pretty rose and is cheap.
SotD = lots and lots of Terracotta Le Parfum, summer in a bottle.
The vintage beach postcard images at the top of today’s and Thursday’s scent of the day posts make me smile. I want to walk right onto those beaches. I bet the sights and scents were ah-may-zing.
Happy Friday, NST!
I am wearing Aqua Universalis edt, it is clean and fresh , lasting power is great.
This is wonderful. I have a friend who only wore Molecules because it smelt clean and now has switched to this one. I suggested Eau Magnolia too.
Was planning to wear the ravishing Parfums MDCI Enlevement au Serail, but in searching for that decant, I came across the vintage Chantilly that I couldn’t find yesterday, so I’m wearing Chantilly.
I guess it does suggest the idea of the Chantilly dessert up top if you find real sandalwood creamy and notice a hint of maraschino cherry. But it’s a heavy perfume by today’s standards, with the soapy-powdery aldehydes in addition to that real sandalwood, and not sweet or fruity. The 2160 (?) Tuesdays perfume that Jessica reviewed sounds like a very loose interpretation, which reminds me of one of those Prairie Home Companion skits in which the band morphs any tune – be it rock, jazz or Bach – into “She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain.” 😉
Ha! I love it when the band lapses into She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain. I teach that song to 1st graders every year. 😀
I have great memories of old Chantilly. I had a bottle gifted to me when I was quite young and the scent permeated the dresser drawer it was hidden in. When I started wearing it as a teen, it made a statement (!), and I loved it. I’m thinking the next round of samples I buy needs to include a few from 2160Tuesdays. The reviews on NST are wonderfully enabling.
I’m really enjoying the Chantilly today! I don’t think I appreciated it when I was young, so props to you. Luca Turin liked 2160Tuesdays, too, so I do have some samples to try.
I chose A la Rose as my FK scent of the day. It’s not groundbreaking but I am enjoying it.
Sometimes you just need pretty. You smell lovely.
Iris Nobile EdP for me this evening after Philosykos edit wore off.
Is the EDP by FM?.. not sure, but I smell gorgeous, and determined to wear this beauty more often.
You smell great. Hope all is well with you.
I’m taking today off work to get ready for a weekend trip, so I almost forgot it was Friday and Francis Kirkdjian day! I only have one of his, Eau Noire, but I’m happy to have an excuse to wear it as it’s been a while. It went on with a big woof of lavender that I didn’t recall having been there, but now that’s settled (thank goodness) and it’s all anise-inflected deliciousness. My husband remarked that it smelled like pancakes. “Pancakes?” I asked. “Pancakes… in a church,” he clarified. And now, nose to wrist, that’s *totally* what I smell!
That’s so funny. Have a happy weekend!
Ha, you and your husband should collaborate on a twitter account with 140 character perfume reviews!
Absolutely.
Haaa, perfect! 🙂
I’m wearing Cologne pour le Soir this afternoon. It’s a breezy, cool-ish day and it smells gorgeous.
Morning, all. I own nothing by FK, not even the memory of a sample. I’m wearing Cristalle because, though I’m better, I can’t fancy too much of anything. But…sigh…there’s housework…work work…family work…seems I’d better stop being invertebrate, insert my backbone where it belongs and start dealing with life again.
Fiddle-dee-dee, tomorrow is another day. ;^)
Although I admire this perfumer in the abstract, I don’t a single bottle by him, and most things I’ve tried by him really don’t agree with me (I think he tends to use certain synthetics that don’t work for me, that super sharp, stinging patchouli–fractionated?–for example). So I wasn’t even included to go through my bag of samples from his line. But after checking the list on the blog, I did notice that I do have a decant of a perfume by him that I do like: Enlevement au Serail, so I went with that. Haha, naturally I’d pick the one that’s discontinued to be a fan of! Anyway, I have to admit that this is a deliciously peachy jasmine, and I will be sorry when my decant is gone.
BTW, LT noted that HdP 1969 is somewhat similar, and I agree. Also less expensive.
To me, 1969 is more of a peach & patchouli fragrance (and I certainly associate patchouli with the year 1969, so the name really fits the fragrance!). I mostly get a ton of jasmine from Enlevement au Serail, and that’s what I love about it. So unfortunately I can’t sub 1969 for the not only more expensive but also discontinued to Enlevement au Serail.
You’re right, there’s plenty of patchouli. I like it anyway, but I admit I tend not to wear it out anywhere.
No skool yesterday because of the snow and more snow on the ground today…but just a little bit. I love how the hills are reduced to black and white…just so bleak but beautiful. Just put on a dab of Black Flower Mexican Vanilla as I read in bed, and watch the sparrows in the trees. They have started nest building.
Nest building! That seems a bit previous, given the weather! I hope they don’t impetuously try to bring up babies in sub-zero temperatures. What would they eat? Any sensible worm will have burrowed deep…oh, seed eaters, right? Well, it’s still not working! Kanuka, really, I think you should step outside and Have A Word.
Tweet them maybe?
Bought Moonstone yesterday!
Nice one. I’m on to the Russians…Laurus by Eugene Vodolazkin.
You mean the Wilkie Collins?
Not sure if you see this, but this Moonstone is by an Icelandic writer called Sjon – Kanuka mentioned this a while back. I read Collins’s when I was very young and don’t remember much…
I have lots of MFK fragrances, but today I went with the very first one I purchased…APOM…it is still one of my favorites.
We’re at the end of another string of very hot/very humid days, so I was delighted – and surprised – to learn from Robin’s list that one of my favorite light, refreshing scents for this time of year is YR Collection d’Ete, and that is my SOTD.
The description on the box says it’s meant to convey ‘ all the charm of a summer spent by the Mediterranean Sea,’ with notes of bergamot, lemon, mandarin, citrus flowers, and a woody base. And it is, very citrussy/woodsy, nicely unisex, a little bit herbally and not ‘aquatic’ at all. Perfect for today!
Robin, have a wonderful vacation! Love the postcard today; although it’s Myrtle Beach, it ‘looks like’ my fragrance.
Bear and johnabob, hugs and good thoughts being sent your way.
Thank you Laila.
Hugs and good thoughts to you.
Hello everyone. Can anybody please tell me how Guerlain Terracotta compares to Lys Soleia? I have a full bottle of Lys and never tried Terracota and would like to get a big decant, but I wonder if they are very similar. Thanks for your advise.
I am sorry, I mean compared to Terracotta Voile D’Ete
Only have one FK, Rose Barbare which I love but wasn’t in the mood for today. So hubby subbed in for me by wearing Oud Satin Mood. I still can’t believe he chose it after smelling the entire line. He smells great, but very sweet….. ????
SOTD Lumiere Noir pour femme, haven’t worn this in a long time.
SOTD = MFK Baccarat Rouge 450, from a sample. This has a gorgeous saffron note that seems to last for ages on me.
Oh, lucky you! That sounds marvelous.
Perfume people still are THE BEST people.Thank you guys for all the love.SOTD was Guerlain Terracotta.Cheerful on a cold winters day.x
Still thinking of you Johanob.
You smell great.
Wearing APOM Elixir, from the Splitmeet. (Thank you, galbanumgal, for hosting.) Very pretty sweet orange blossom, with great longevity. I may wear it again tomorrow. Now to read everyone else’s picks, and then get to bed.
