Project Renegades Mark Buxton, Bertrand Duchaufour & Geza Schoen ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 7 June 2016 8 Comments

Project Renegades Bertrand Duchaufour

Project Renegades is a new niche brand from perfumers Mark Buxton, Bertrand Duchaufour and Geza Schoen. They debut with three eponymous fragrances.

Project Renegades is the brainchild of three classically-trained perfumers who broke free of the corporate world. They wanted to do something crazy together. Something really crazy. So they dreamt up three avatars, wild-eyed mixologist-cowboys, and let them run free in a fantasy Wild West of limitless creativity and maxxed-out sensory overload... Or to put it another way, these guys just wanna have fun.

Mark Buxton ~ "As the nose behind most of Comme des Garçons' biggest hits, Mark Buxton is no stranger to quirky, modern, exciting twists on conventional perfumery. And so it comes as no surprise that his entry in the Renegades series is indeed both quirky and dynamic, a spicy and woody floral leather with the smouldering sensuality of a young gunslinger out for revenge. [...] Mark Buxton's Renegades is a fragrance of intoxicating contradictions." With basil, lentisque, black pepper, cassis, galbanum, leather, rhododendron, labdanum, gaiac, vetiver and amber.

Bertrand Duchaufour (shown) ~ "What happens when one of niche fragrance's most prolific perfumers is given the freedom to have some fun? In Bertrand Duchaufour's case, he creates a modern, zesty blend of pink pepper, woods, and aquatic notes that- not to ruin the crazy imagery- comes out shockingly relaxed and lovely. [...] And with a delightfully woodsy, fresh, and fun memory like this, you can be sure we'll be coming back again and again." With pink pepper, bergamot, cardamom, gin, cassis, galbanum, red berries, olibanum, hinoki, balsam fir, driftwood and amber.

Geza Schoen ~ "When given the opportunity to go rogue, most perfumers might attempt to make the loudest, wildest, or most synthetically energetic fragrance of their career- but what if you've already made your whole career out of breaking the rules? In the case of visionary modernist perfumer Geza Schoen, you actually take a step towards naturalism, creating a fragrance that reinterprets pink pepper in the context of the entire tree, from berries to bark to leaves. [...] Vibrant, compelling and surprisingly natural, Geza Schoen's Renegades fragrance is another triumph from a perfumer who's never been content to follow the leader." With pink pepper, lemon, bergamot, cassis, lime, osmanthus, iris, fir, juniper, hedione, mate, iso-E super, cedar, sandalwood, labdanum, incense, myrrh, castoreum and ambrette.

Project Renegades Mark Buxton, Bertrand Duchaufour and Geza Schoen are available now at Luckyscent, $210 each for 100 ml.

I tried Geza Schoen’s earlier this year, and it was really lovely. I do not understand the bottles.

I am a great admirer of Mark Buxton’s fragrances. I love the original Commes des Garçons with it’s strong, clove rose. So I would like to try his Renegades. I would like to smell like a young gunslinger!

I like all 3 of these perfumers…can’t decide if I want to smell like a young gunslinger or not, but I guess it couldn’t hurt ;-)

The bottles remind me of the Molecule/Escentric scents. I look forward to sniffing these although I am not expecting to be bowled over. :-)

I’d like to try them, but: Geza Schoen “goes rogue” with pink pepper and iso E super? Isn’t that the backbone of *everything* he does?
