Chanel No. 5 L’Eau ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 12 May 2016 15 Comments

chanel-5-eau-s

Chanel will launch No. 5 L'Eau, a new fragrance for women, in September. No. 5 L'Eau is a flanker to Chanel No. 5, and follows 2007's No. 5 Eau Première.

Simple and sophisticated. Timeless and audacious. Vibrant and faithful.

No. 5 L'Eau was developed by Chanel house perfumer Olivier Polge, and will feature Rose de Mai from the Chanel fields in Grasse. It is described as a lighter, fresher interpretation of the original.

I will update with notes, sizes and concentration when I can.

Update: additional notes include lemon, mandarin, bergamot, orange, aldehydes, jasmine, ylang ylang, sandalwood and cedar.

Another update: Chanel No. 5 L’Eau is available in 35,  50 or 100 ml Eau de Toilette .

It is about time they draw attention back to No.5!

Wish they’d given it a better name though.

Could not be as bad as on the masculine side, though. What with Allure’s flanker: Sport Cologne, Sport Cologne Sport, Eau Extrême, Eau Fraîchissante Pour l’Éte, Edition Blanche …

Ha, yes, thank you to Chanel for not giving us No. 5 Sport 😉

But how does a flanker draw back attention to the original? Will people buy L’Eau and then the original? What if L’Eau sells more? Do they kill off the original like Miss Dior did? I don’t understand the strategy,.

Hmm. I don’t know what to think of this. I absolutely adore No 5 and Eau Premiére, but I think it’s a risk to take, when it say L’eau..

Not least because every other pillar has a flanker called L’Eau. Really wish they’d called it something else.

        Absolutely agree!

I assume this is the rumoured new No.5 aimed at the younger generation because of their lesser attention/affection to the original?
(Sad memories of Shalimar Souffle come rushing back… hope this one does better)

They did such a good job with Eau Premiere that I’m getting my hopes up for this new l’Eau. I’m envisioning a rose de mai fragrance that opens with No 5’s aldehyde sparkle.

I am skeered of “fresher”. I would rather Polge spend his time coming up with extrait versions of 28 La Pausa, Coromandel and 31, rue Cambon.

Yes to this! Extrait 31 rue Cambon would be fabulous.

I have the original Eau Premier in the original bottle sitting on my dresser that I barely use since I like the original better. Instead of revamping no 5, maybe they should really work on something more original instead of creating flankers.

    Wish Olivier would either…

    1. Reimagine for “Les Exclusifs” some of the old masterpieces like No. 46 or No. 21 or No. 55 and give us a glimpse of those lost treasures… Or,

    2. FOR GOD’S SAKE, a NEW Chanel fragrance and quit with the flankers! Chance debuted what seems like EONS ago and it’s high time, (Especially with a new nose at the helm) to introduce a new scent!
