Happy Almost-Friday, everyone! It's also National No Housework Day, which we've been practicing for over the last year. (It's also World Health Day. The 2016 theme: halt diabetes.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne, by Sophia Grojsman with Sophie Labbé. Tea at the moment is a Panyang Congou.
Reminder: On 4/8, wear a perfume by Sophia Grojsman, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is from the Saint Laurent Spring / Summer 2016 campaign, by Hedi Slimane, who has since been replaced with Anthony Vaccarello.
finished up my JM Orange Blossom this morning…one down and 34 full bottles, 12 solids, 20 oils, 9 decants and 100 samples to go!
You got this!! Lol.
I am trying! My goal is to get my full bottles down to ten (which was my limit for about 40 years until the hoarding took over!!!!! Actually reading blogs did not help me one bit-LOL!)…..I may also give some of my decants and samples to my nieces, nephews, mother, close friends, etc…..that will help put a dent in my collection as well…..and I know they will all be more than appreciative!
JM Orange Blossom is a good one. I have so many samples. I usually give the ones I don’t want or duplicate samples away as part of gifts. My family and friends know when they have a birthday or a special holiday coming up to expect a few samples as part of their gift. They are always so appreciative.
I also try to make a stranger’s day. I always carry a few samples in my makeup bag. If someone compliments me on a fragrance, I will give them a sample of it. Its kind of like “paying it forward” with fragrance 🙂
Oh I love this idea! I may do the same and start paying it forward…..
That’s a cool thing to do!
good luck – sounds very much like my hoard. I’m trying not to buy anything new until I work through more samples but….
There is light at the end of a tunnel 🙂
Oh, I hear you! I am one use away from finishing a mini of Bois Blonds and am excited to get it out of the house.
YOU CAN DO IT!!!! 😀
Congrats!
Sycomore (Chanel).
Fantastic!
You smell so good.
You smell amazing!
Drinking MF French breakfast and eating a delicious bagel from Montreal and listening to Ravi Shankar (thank you Google)
Post shower I am sampling Soleil by Fragonard, and after shower I will try Fleur d’oranger from the same brand, it was a recommendation from BdJ “recommend me a perfume thread”, so I will see if will replace my beloved Feuilles by L’Occitane
Robin, I will tell my husband about today’s holiday. 😛
Why, was he planning to do a load of housework??
no..but I think he is expecting me too.. 🙁
So did mine. He actually asked me to – I wish I knew earlier what today was
I wound up not loving Soleil, but the mini bottles are really pretty!
We might be sisters: I had MF French Breakfast tea this morning, and I love Ravi Shankar and good bagels! (My actual sisters don’t care about any of those.)
Aww..Karen..we are soul sistas!
Patou Divine Folie
Have not tried it!
I’m in Cuir de Russie today and drinking Twinings Earl Grey right now.
Leather twins! Hope your day is better than yesterday.
Yes, thanks. So far it has been better, but I’m really tired today. Trudging along…
I really should drag that one out and wear it. Don’t know why I don’t and I have the family sized bottle.
Haha, family sized bottle. I like that. It’s grey and rainy here today with a slight chill, so it felt appropriate. Plus I’m wearing a (wrinkled) silk shirt.
Not surprisingly, I think it’s an excellent choice. And I will go and make the exact same tea.
Twinings really does a good job of that one, doesn’t it? Granted, I have my lovely Earl Grey Supreme by Harney & Sons at home, which I love, but I’ll take what I can get at work.
How is the Harney one? My favorite Harney is Earl of Harlem which combines a smoky black along with the bergamot note….
The Supreme has a mix of black and green tea in it so it’s got the nice bergamot flavor, but has a lighter, vegetal feel to it in general. I love it.
Your aura smells so good right now. All you need now is a good book or quality magazine and really good Jazz music now.
Oh goodness, that’s quite the compliment. I’m actually not all that luxurious and my idea of a “good book” is a manga volume of a series I like.
Books with pictures are good!
You smell fab!
Cuir de Lancome today – poise and professionalism, or at least an attempt at it.
I gave SoulCycle a try last night and had my butt pleasantly kicked. Not something I can afford on the regular, but I may give spinning more of a try elsewhere.
You are my hero!
For going to Soulcycle? 🙂 I do what I can.
yes! 😀 I heard that its a$$ kicking! Good for you
Let’s also remember that you’re the one who gave birth and MOVED in the same week! Badassery all around.
I think “at least an attempt at it” is why a LOT of us wear perfume :p. I know I am. You smell great.
I’m guessing SoulCycle is a spin class?
Yes, though I’ve never taken one before. A group of my coworkers were going, so I gave it a try. It’s hard not to laugh at certain supposedly “motivational” things the instructor says, as it can dip dangerously towards an SNL skit at times, but it really was a good workout. I’m going to give spinning at my gym (which I belong to and barely use, shamefully) a try.
Good luck with it! It’s funny how motivational phrases come off as cheesy at first, but eventually sound really nice when you’re sweating your butt off in a workout.
The Seven app I use is hilariously bad. I listen to the Kung-fu instructor and he says stuff like, “You are working out the mind, body and spirit! You can do it!” or “Your body is the arrow, the workout is the bow!” and “You are making me proud, my son!” By then, I’m usually screaming back, “I’M YOUR DAUGHTER, DAMNIT!” And so I’ve joined in the ridiculousness of it all, but it helps the time go by faster.
HA! Yeah, the things this instructor was saying were not dissimilar to that, and I was entertained. But you’re right, sometimes it can work, even when it’s ridiculous.
Scent twins. 🙂 Absolutely love this one.
You smell marvelous.
But for the $ did you think it was worth it?
Curious.
If you mean Cuir de Lancome, absolutely. 🙂
As for Soul Cycle, I paid $20, and will get a free class in the next couple weeks, so for $10 a class, yes. However, after that, it is something like $34 a class, and no, I won’t be paying that.
You smell elegant!
I have not done SoulCycle- we don’t have it in Portland- but we have similar cycle classes. Which, in a city of bicycles you would think “haha, no biggie?”
WRONG. Man, I could barely walk after.
Thanks!
I paced myself because I knew I wasn’t going to be at the level of the instructor, but yeah – those things can be killer.
Good for you! I tried Spin once and it wasn’t for me. I heard Michelle Obama goes to various SoulCycle venues although don’t recall if it is the the DC area only or ramdomly wherever she travels. You’re in good company 🙂
It is hard! I used to spin a lot in LA because my sister is a spinning instructor. It does get easier if you keep going. She also played music I liked and I in no way tried to keep up with her because she is INSANE. She is definitely that SNL skit.
You smell lovely!
Just some L’Occitane Roses et Reines lotion for now, and a cup of Jasmine Silver Pearls tea. Trying to get rid of a headache. 🙁 When it goes away I will reach for my beloved Misia.
Oh, hope it disappears quickly!
It’s gray & flurrying AGAIN. Not a bad winter, but this no spring is getting tiresome. In Ciel de Gum for some cinnamony warmth.
Agree – really ready for some warmer weather, preferably more than 2 days of it in a row.
Me too! I am afraid that we will go from frigid to ridiculously hot summerlike weather and completely bypass spring (which is my favourite season!)
That’s my worry as well. I hate it when the weather jumps up to blistering heat too fast.
That happened here last year, and my lettuces and sugar peas gave up the ghost overnight, just when they were really thriving!
I agree with you both. Love spring and always hope that the lilacs, peonies, and other flowers have enough warmth to open gradually and linger, rather than being blasted open by days of heat and humidity.
Mmmm Ciel de GUM…may wear that tomorrow!
SOTD: Sleeping with Ghosts, by Mark Buxton. A very nice, light leather.
Sitting at car dealership, getting some repairs. Such is life! The Jadamobile must be kept race ready! Lol.
Have a fantabulous Thursday! Friday approaches! 🙂
oh good luck with that! At least you have some time off from work…
I liked that one as well, but out of the 3 we received from Olfactif, that one was #3 for me. I’m beginning to think that I’m not a fan of “leather”. I think for me, it comes off as too masculine for my taste.
Have you ever tried Ineke’s Evening Edged in Gold? That is one of the few leathers I can wear….it’s almost like soft sueded leather…the way your leather gloves smell after several weeks of wearing different perfumes……I may actually wear that one tomorrow and finally drain another full bottle…..
Just looked up the notes- osmanthus. plum, angel’s trumpet ( a real flower), saffron, cinnamon bark, midnight candy ( a real plant) leather and woods….it is very soft, pretty and muted…..I rather like it…..
I will have to try that one! Typically I don’t gravitate towards leather, but a VERY soft one would be great when the mood hits!
I will have to try that one. Ineke has some very user-friendly scents. Writing this one down so I can give it a try.
I would recommend a sample first before committing to a full bottle…it is a tad on the sweet side….
Exactly how I feel!! My skin amps up the leather, and I really can’t smell anything else. It’s nice, but not a perfume I would ever buy. I shall enjoy the sample and move right along! LOL
The Fast and the Fragrant! 😀
Or….in Atlanta rush traffic….The Slow and the Smelly! LOL!!! 🙂
LOL! 😀
That’s funny, I also spent time getting my car repaired this morning and I’m also wearing a leather scent (Cuir d’Ange).
Although I’ve been meaning to follow this week’s poll theme, yesterday I sampled vintage Christian Dior Jules. It’s an ideal men’s fragrance, but not so harsh or stereotypical that I can’t enjoy wearing it myself on a cold day.
I’m noticing that there are discounted bottles in newer packaging on Amazon now (from associated sellers). Has anyone tried the current version?
Hello nozknoz !
You smell great, I have Jules in the ribbed bottle with peridot juice and it is a wonderful herbal/leather aroma.
You might want to search Basenotes, I seem to recall there are various bottles with slight variation in the juice.
I have not tried the current iteration. HTH. 🙂
Thanks, Bear! Yes, more research is needed. In reality, it’s unlikely that I’d ever use more than this one mini. Or maybe one more? 😉
Yum, Jules 🙂
That was my father’s perfume when I was growing up. I remember it smelled great on him. I am trying to find a bottle but they are too expensive, maybe I should try to get the current version.
Wrapped up in boots scarf.
Rainy cold here in Detroit
But as Joni Mitchell sang- California, I’m coming home…
Some phi de Kandahar today.
Sephora VIBers its 15% off starting today! Ordered TF Tuscan leather before I left the hotel room this morning!
ohh..thanks for the heads up on Sephora
Enabler that I am
And I was trying so hard to forget about that! ( I even hid the card that came in the mail a few days ago in my drawer!)
Well deserved pin I’d say..15% is a nice discount
Jealous of your Tuscan Leather!
I’m completely torn between buying a perfume and buying some skin care stuff I’m running out of…. I don’t want to spend too much.
You might feel less guilty buying the skin care stuff….especially if you are running out…..
Yes! Thanks for the reminder. I like online purchasing with Sephora to get all the extra freebies.
Ditto for the PerfCourt, just today.
Gris Clair today, I wanted some of that lavender smoke!
You smell great!
It’s another Chanel day since I wore no 19 today. Vintage Coco might fit the rare 10 hour shift at work today. Or maybe Cuir de Russie. Aldehydes in no 22 isn’t my thing today.
I fully support another Chanel day! Wearing Cristalle…its crispness fits the cool morning and will morph well with the higher temps later today. Bring on the sun!
I am going for Coco on this grey rainy day.
I’m wearing Mure et Musc Extreme from my perfume box discovery set. L’Artisan is so much more affordable than Atelier, and I like their fragrances better. Not that this one is FBW.
It sneaks up on you. You think it is a simple, sweet little poof of musk and berries… but before you know you have to have MOOORREEEE…. or at least that is what happened to me 🙂
I remember when I gave myself a hefty dose from the sampler, I really loved the sweet muskiness of that one. Then I bought a bottle from someone off fragrantica, and got a mini of the non extreme version in a swap but all I get is pepper. I wonder if they reformulated it recently and I just like the newer formulation?
Huh! I don’t recall getting pepper. Do you get pepper in both, or just the non-extreme?
Actually I got more in the extreme, but neither were the berry musky goodness that I loved from my sample vial. 🙁 I never know if I should keep trying or just give up – it’s so disappointing! Maybe it was a dab/spray thing??
I was going to guess that it is a dab vs spray issue. I dabbed the extreme version and didn’t get much pepper.
Alahine today. I think it may be love at first sniff; we’ll see how it plays out throughout the day 🙂
Ohhhhhh, you smell fabulous.
Thank you. I keep surreptitiously sniffing my wrist. . .
lovelovelove Alahine
One of these days, I’ll sniff some Alahiiiiine and find out what all the fuss is about.
I’m back in Brussels, it’s cold and I’m wearing TDC Tokyo Bloom – a great modern spring cologne.
How was your vacation?
It was very, very nice, thank you for asking. Martinique was warm and beautiful and they do excellent rum. And I read three books.
Sounds like my kind of vacation! What books?
There were 3,5 in fact: I finished The Secret History of the Mongol Queens and read Wide Sargasso Sea, The Signature of All things (recommended by Hamamelis) and City of Blades, the sequel to City of Stairs. All good, although in very different ways.
Wide Sargasso Sea is quite something isn’t it? :^)
It is. And reading it in the Caribbean adds another dimension.
Glad to read it was so nice. Hope you will acclimatize well to Brussels.
Not really 🙂
That sounds so lovely and relaxing. I’m glad you had a great time 🙂
Reading + vacation + warm weather = aaaahhhhh.
I loved reading The Signature of All Things. Alma is a character I will long remember.
The entire book was such a nice surprise for me. Glad you liked it as well.
sotd: mariella burani, the original. only 1/4 bottle and 1 back-up left of this beauty.
So glad I was able to snag a bottle on ebay for around $20 (slightly used).
a bottle for $20! wow. that’s an amazing deal. i’ve seen MBs on the ‘bay but only for upwards of $150-200.
I think I over-sprayed MB today, but I still love it (just hope others in office do, too!)
Well, it was like 6 years ago. The sources have dried up.
I once oversprayed it and people kept saying, “I smell baby powder.” Oy.
LOL! Reminds me of the time I wore SSS Lieu de Reves to work and another co-worker told me that I smelled like a diaper (when I gave her a dirty look she rephrased and said “A CLEAN diaper”)…..same co-worker told me that I smelled like men’s shaving cream whenever I wore Field Notes from Paris…..”Oy” is right!!!!!!!
Did some Spring cleaning and found bottles of Paris and Kashaya (yesterday! No violation today! LOL) .
Wearing Paris (perfume drag) and the roses, violet, mimosa aroma is intoxicating. ????????????????
Twins! Love Paris. I only have a sample but I’m thinking I need a FB.
I am so tempted to get a bottle of the current edp. Do you know how it compares to the original?
I’ve only smelled the original EDT, lillyjo. Best to brave the mall to sample.
SOTD is Chanel 19 EDP, and it’s just perfect.
Fabulous choice! I love no 19 in all its variations except Poudre.
That makes me a horrible person, because to my sad nozzle 19 is only bearable in Poudre! 😛
nah…y’all just have different tastes….
No, not horrible at all. I’m curious though – do you dislike No. 19 on other people, or does it just do something yucky in combination with your skin? (Or both, I suppose …?)
And what note makes you dislike the other versions?
PURRFECT!
Sampling Oxley from Olivine Atelier which is a pretty big gardenia with a touch of vanilla scent. I smelled the original Olivine at Anthropologie and ordered the sample set from her etsy shop. She really loves gardenia since 5 of the 7 scents contain it. This sampler should make me pretty happy since I also like gardenia
I also have the remnants of Lorenzo Villoresi Tropicana from last night’s sniffing session with some Boston folks still on one arm. Still under the impression that I need to get a bottle sometime of this happy fruit salad
I really, really like Olivine Atelier and the people who run it are super sweet as well! In the summer love&roses is the perfect pick me up for a hot day at the desk!
CSP Vanille Ambre, the usual sweet vanilla with an amber base and just a hint of dust and smoke. It’s really nice. I think it’s discontinued. They just LOVE to discontinue their scents, don’t they? Except Vanille Abricot. That will be around until the end of time.
Ha! Vanille Apricot will survive the zombie apocalypse
Looks like we have gone back to chilly temperatures so I am in Coromandel.
Nice scent and also weather-appropriate! You smell fantastic!
I found a mini of Beautiful I had forgotten about – that’s what I’m wearing today to continue with my Sophia Grojsman week. Its nice, I may get a small bottle some day if I end up emptying the mini. Wish I’d smelled it in its old oakmossy glory days.
Don’t ya just hate reformulations
It WAS beautiful!
I am in complete and total support of National No Housework Day and intent to celebrate accordingly????
I am in Queen again today and still loving it. Happy Amost Friday Day to all!
wow! You are getting some good mileage out of your Queen! and it must tickle you pink, given the price that you paid for it!
It’s my jam this week. ????
I agree: TOTAL SUPPORT of No Housework Day seems appropriate! It will be my rule of law today! 🙂
Why not make it a week? We do it with the Friday projects!
😀
Hey Deva, I was just at TJMaxx and bought a bottle on your recommendation, so a big ol’ enabler pin to you. A lifetime supply for $8! I get cherry cough drop in the opening and now it’s settling down into a nice oriental. From the notes, Queen of Hearts might be better if I can find it; I tend not to love boozy notes and I get some in Queen.
Queen of hearts is nice, if you like plummy/spicy.
I was looking at that one online due to your recommendation yesterday, and if I find it cheap cheap cheap, I will snap it up. Thanks!
Go you! Happy you are enjoying it????
As the news reporters here in Houston likes to call it, “Happy Friday Eve!” Our weather lately has been crazy for the last couple of weeks. We start out with temps between the 40’s and 50’s and by mid- afternoon, it is usually between the 70’s and 80’s (more on the 80’s end). So its hard to pick a scent that would be appropriate for the weather. My SOTD is Santal Blush by Tom Ford. To me, this is a unique scent and can only be worn when the mood hits you. Its a statement scent.
Have a good day everyone!
A bit off topic but I know you are a Jo Malone fan…have you tried any of the layering combos mentioned on their website? I just brought several of my JM bottles to work and just now combined the Pomegranate Noire with the Peony Blush & Suede (one of the website’s recommended layering combos)…wow! I am really liking this!
Just topped it off with Nectarine Blossom and Honey….even better 🙂
There is an article about Grace Coddington’s upcoming CdG perfume Grace on the NYT website. It’s in a cat-inspired bottle! 🙂
Hah! Not surprising 🙂
I read that article last night through the link you provided in your post. Good article and the bottle is really elegant for being inspired by a cat.
Love that bottle! Read the article this morning..
I also read it yesterday. It was you who posted it? I want that bottle!
I hope the Grace Coddington scent is lovely and/or interesting, as I think she is both of these.
So many angles on that perfume launch: fans of Grace Coddington, Vogue followers, CdG admirers, rose fragrance lovers, perfume bottle collectors, and cat people. Did I miss anyone?
Read it, thanks for the link. 🙂
Vintage Miss Dior today. I need an infusion of kick-ass attitude to get through my night shift.
you smell great!
Merci beaucoup!
+1 kick ass 🙂
Miss Dior did a slap-up job in the ass-kickin’ department today!
Can you comment on how vintage Miss Dior compares with Miss Dior Original? (I sniffed the Original extrait today next to the modern extrait, and the Original is soooo much more interesting!)
Doing the farm books again. 🙁 No. 19 for spine-stiffening.
Was hoping you would pop in today because I wanted to tell you that 1000 Flowers is now selling both samples and 8ml travel sprays….I know you have been wanting to try no 19s “younger sister” ….Fleur no. 1…and the prices are very reasonable (they are listed as CAD which means even less in USD)
Thank you! Elisa very sweetly sent me her small bottle, and it’s nice. Good PSA for everybody else who wanted to try it.
yay! You FINALLY got it! I wore no 19 EDT when I was a teenager (not telling you what year that was-LOL!) and loved it but then never replaced my bottle …about 20 years or so later the EDP came out and I blind bought it….somehow it smelled different from the EDT I remembered loving…didn’t hate it but didn’t love it so I gifted it to my mother….when I finally got my bottle of Fleur no 1 (blind buy because it was deeply discounted) I was reminded of why I loved no 19…..there is a similarity, right???? Basically Fleur no 1 just seems a bit gentler and easier for me to wear than the current rendition of no 19……
I found Fleur no 1 through Mals’ s Muse blog, and funnily enough it reminds me more of Cristalle than no 19 (which I don’t mind as I love both).
ha! that is probably another reason why I love it! Cristalle was a staple in my wardrobe in the late 70s/early 80s!
I brought in five more bottles to work and with Fleur no 1 being one of them I just dabbed a bit on the back of each hand….I guess it reminds me more of no 19 because it seems greener to me than Cristalle (which was always very citrus to my nose)
I think it is the hyacinth note, which maybe more noticable in Cristalle EdT than in the EdP (but ofcourse there is also hyacinth in 19). Anyway, all good!
Dhonghka today, hoping its crispness propels me through my work. Yesterday at the shelter we were running behind on all our scheduled walks, so I ended up walking non-stop for nearly my whole 8 hour shift. Put over 32,000 steps on my fitbit, and am more than a little exhausted today.
You smell great.
I don’t think my Fitbit can count that high.
I literally burst out laughing at this – at work.
I need to fix my Fitbit. It stopped syncing and hasn’t worked in a while.
I know. Right? 32K steps? Mine only goes up to 12,000, 13,000 at most. 😉
Mine would probably tell me to quit cheating.
Iris Poudre today, trying to motivate myself and the small ones to get ready and take the dog for a run. Like many others today, missing the sunshine and wish spring would stop playing hide and seek with us!
I sadly don’t have any Sophia Grojsman perfumes, I love Femme, tho, and may get a mini of Paris next month.
I’m wearing Desarmant from La Parfumerie Moderne. Lilac lovers take note!! Such a good lilac.
It is one of my faves. Wore it yesterday. You smell good
I noticed that and took a cue! I think their geranium (No Sport) is very good too.
I’ve got a bottle of Annees Folles on the way which on me is an interesting cross between a fougere and an oriental. I agree that No Sport is a nice geranium but doesn’t hit my buy list (not sure any geranium would)
I liked Desarmant so much that I’m seriously considering a full bottle.
oh dear. a good lilac brings out my unsniffed purchasing tendencies.
is the leather prominent?
I don’t get any leather at all–a touch of suede, maybe. But only a touch.
I’m in shalimar Initial.
Shalimar Initial is gorgeous!
At yesterday’s really fun Boston sniffing session, I tried Diorissimo for the first time; I could still smell traces of it this morning, and now I’m pondering finding a small bottle. I have no LOTV scents, so I kept with the floral category and am now wearing Amoureuse.
I’m wearing the vintage today. It’s great in cool spring weather.
Dzień dobry from Wrocław, where we are enjoying an ordinary Spring day of light cloud with occasional sunny spells. SOTD is “Herod” from Parfums de Marly, a tobacco and vanilla scent. It is smooth and pleasant enough, but not rocking my world today. I ordered a 5ml decant of yesterday’s “Arso” (stop giggling there at the back, Kanuka) and 2ml each of 3 other Profumum Roma things, so my wallet is pleased enough that today’s tobacco perfume is close but no cigar.
Such an unfortunate name, isn’t it?
I rather like it-LOL!
“Oh you smell so good!”
“Why , thank you, it’s my ‘Arso””……
(sorry but I just could not resist 🙂 !!!!)
Heeheehee!
I’m a bit confused. Is that Eau de Arso or is it Extrait de Arso? And do they make a nice matching hand cream for layering? Your He Rod sounds lovely, too.
Oops, sorry…typo.
I see you are wearing “Incorrigible” today… :^D
Makes a change from Angel
Snicker.
Commando except for a tiny bit of Journey bodycream. I hoped to try some of the new Jo Malones but no luck, not available in the nearest town. Needs an expedition to Amsterdam. I think it will be Fleur de Cassie or a Chanel.
The Rare Teas or the Herb Garden?
Herb garden, but any Jo Malone would have been good…I did smell Miss Dior Originale (hidden on the back of a top shelf), which I wanted to for some time, I think I liked it but will need to sniff it again.
I just checked the Jo Malone website and two of the offerings from the Herb Garden are missing in action so they must have sold out already!
I hope you like the Herb Garden line when you do get a chance to try them out. When I went to Norrdstroms, one of them (can’t remember which scent) sold out and they weren’t getting more. They are nice, but the longevity on me was not long at all.
Oh, such a pity that your Jo Malone expedition didn’t work out:( Let me know if you want me to send you some!
Forgot to say that I enjoyed The Signature of all Things, thank you for the recommendation!
A few sprays of Rien on my chest followed by Secrets d’Essences Neroli on my arms to save me from Rien. I couldn’t smell Rien from under my jumper though but I secretly lifted the collar a few times to get the fumes. Of the two, I could still smell Neroli (from under the sleeves) during lunch.
And then A la Nuit for the late afternoon/evening. Where have you been all my life? I used to own Lust but it was wAAAYtoomuch so I gave my bottle away. I tested the Lutens concurrently with Lust and given Lust was a lot cheaper I thought it was the way to go. Not thus.
Ah, isn’t A La Nuit lovely?
My SOTD is Rose of No Man’s Land. Really hoping to find a way to get a full bottle of this as I’ve now drained my second sample.
Actually stopped into the new Aedes location in NYC and really liked a lot of the Byredo line. Rose of No Man’s Land and Gypsy Water are the two that stuck out in my mind. Lovely stuff.
I’m in the opposite of a Sophia Grojsman scent, Orlov’s Orlov by Dominique Ropion. While many Grojsmans bring to my mind pale pink mohair sweaters coupled with hot pink flowing silk scarves, Orlov’s Orlov is all streamline white shantung pantsuit. It is supposed to be a white flower scent. If it is, it is a butter free, zero calorie whit flower. Diet tuberose. Wear it as much as you want and you won’t gain a pound. Expensive, elegant, and boring. I prefer curves.
What a great description!
Have you tried it?
Today is Samsara since the scent of Mysore Sandalwood Soap on my hands was so delicious. Samsara is delicious, exotic enough and all its components seem to vibrate together.
I love Samsara
Happy Thursday, everyone! I had no idea what I felt like wearing, and then Amaranthine jumped into my hand. I should really wear this one more often — it’s SO good!
In the last drops of Muguet Fleuri, bolsterd by some Debut..LOTV heaven.!
chocolatemarzipan’ s post about 1000flowers reminded me to try Reglisse Noir this morning and I’m really liking it. Might go for one of those travel sprays!
You smell delicious! Reglisse Noire is in my top fragrances of all times list and this is from a person who never liked anise/licorice notes!!!!!
I agree
I’m wearing Cuir d’Ange. I don’t think of this as a particularly strong perfume, and I rarely get comments—good or bad—on what I’m wearing, but when I dropped my car off at the repair shop this morning the woman who was checking me in raved about it, which was nice but also surprising.
I’ve basically been participating in No Housework Century and don’t plan to change anytime soon. I feel that there are so many more interesting things to do with my time than clean. Thankfully, I’m a neat person and I like doing laundry, so things don’t get awfully bad except in the dust and vacuum area, which I put off as long as I can. In anticipation of a day with temps in the mid-eighties, I’m wearing Shanghai Lily.
No Housework Century! Now that is a slogan to get behind!
Same here. I’ve generally got a neat house and don’t really need to do too much cleaning. The hubs and I usually break down together after a few weeks and clean the whole house.
That’s kind of how we do it, too. And I’m always surprised by how little time it takes when we just bang it out together.
Wearing Vanille Galante today…
I smell good as I eagerly await a sample set from Teo Cabanel…
I also purchased a small bottle of Muguet Porcelaine and am waiting for that to come too…
So much perfume…so little time…
Enjoy!
Vanille Galante for me today, too.
So happy to hear Muguet Porcelain is on the way. I hope you will let us know how it turns out for you.
How did you get Muguet Porcelaine already? I keep calling and being told to wait until May. (wail)
I bought a 15 ml manufacturer’s bottle from Ebay for $55. Not sure if we are supposed to list sellers here (I have no affiliation) but if you look up sold items for Hermes Muguet you can find them. The seller is in the US but gets things direct from France and has a lot of Hermes things and appears to have gotten these prior to release.
SOTD is Apres l’Ondee which is very appropriate for this very rainy day. Now to ready the comments.
…read the comments…
Also, you should have comments ready! 😛
You smell lovely!
beautiful fragrance!
*humble brag alert*
So it’s gonna be 85F and super sunny. How we are gonna get work done I don’t know!
So, SOTD: I had a hard time, because it’s gonna be very warm by solar noon, ad I drained my sample of Infusion D’Iris, which would have been perfect today. So today it’s about layering: Nuxe huile Prodigeuse as a body oil, followed with Bois des Iles extrait* on pulse points! I must say, I smell VERY good indeed, and combined scent of hay/flowers/woods is gonna be perfect in the heat of the afternoon- perfect for riding a bike AND sitting by the river, having an iced tea!
*Many thanks to Hajusuuri, who gave a completely unexpected sample of Bois des Iles extrait along with her generous decant of Sycamore! You guys should have heard me squealing in my apartment!
ack! wish I was having your glorious weather!
I also like layering..soap, body oil/moisturizer followed by perfume…all different scents! and I like layering different perfumes too because I end up using more juice!
Have heard good things about the Nuxe Huile P body oil…will have to go investigate now….and I am always hearing great things about Hajusuuri…she sounds like the quintessential fairy godmother!
You smell great!
I am definitely adding the Nuxe to my next amazon order…it is 98% natural and based on the essential oils listed in the ingredients it must smell outrageously good!
If you have a Costco membership, consider ordering from Costco, which has fast free delivery AND a lower price than Amazon.
Nice combo! I can see that working well and must try it myself.
If you can, please do! it’s marvelous!
WOW, I’d be squealing too! Hajusuuri is very kind and generous with her samples. You smell fantastic. Hope you have a great day in your warm weather.
Oh thank you! And let me tell you- I have worn attars before, and just have the scent just envelope you and last all day. BUT this is the first time i have smelled an extrait of a perfume, so this is an amazing experience! I am very happy, indeed! 🙂
And it’s beautiful outside, and I wish I could share with everyone!
The Chanel perfumes are gorgeous! Years ago I had no 5 and no 22…they wear closer to the skin but are so sensual and beautiful and do indeed last all day! I had no 5 and no 22 in all renditions but it was the pure perfumes that always garnered me the most compliments…..
send some sun this way..
i would if I could!
Glad you enjoyed the BdI Extrait!
It was so unexpected! Thank you so much!
SOTD L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereruse.
I’m wearing Hove Carnaval today. Its a very light blend of jasmine, gardenia and lime.
oh, I love that! I wore it last week, I think. I am almost out – thinking about getting some more…
I’m guessing at the ingredients since they are so secretive over at Hove about their scents.
What do you smell in this perfume?
SOTD will be one of Buterbaugh’s. I can forget about them for months, tucked away as they are in their case, but I am very fond of most. Might wear Thistle ( or is it Thorn?) today.
So don’t want to work.. taking a little break 😉
I’m (again) in Gourmand Coquin, & so very grateful to Lizzie for sharing a decant of this, as she calls it, boozy chocolate.
So many ideas for tomorrow!
Grey and rainy in THE City
SOTD = JM Blackberry & Bay
I have a date sticker on this bottle – 10/2012! and the 30 mL bottle is half-full. Admittedly, I don’t reach for it often eventhough I love it; I can say the same of 100+ bottles and many of them have a good 90%+ left. Oy!
Well, at least it’s half full and not half empty 😉
Ha!
Ha ha!
OK now I don’t feel so bad about my numbers! 100 plus! Wow! Almost all of my 34 full bottles are more than half empty (some have even less juice)…..in my past history of perfume wearing I would always drain the bottles completely and then regret no longer having them for a reference ( so many vintage gone !!!!!)…so over the past three or so years I have never been able to get down to the bottom of a bottle…but I decided recently that the ones I really love I will decant into 1ml vials for sniffing purposes only and just drain those bottles once and for all!
I saw your post up above and said: self, you must gain control of your collection just like chocolatemarzipan is doing! I would be lying to myself if I think I can get down to under 100 considering that the “+” covers a lot of confessions to Donatella.
You are so funny!
But honestly if you are enjoying them…so be it…and you have the reputation for being such a generous and giving perfume person so the 100+ bottles are serving their purpose….you will have a special spot in perfume heaven 🙂
And I am sure that reading blogs does not help us one bit…we are a bunch of enablers for sure-LOL!
Agree that blog reading does not help! The splitmeets and the basenotes splitters are a wonderful alternative to FB purchases!
I also meant to thank you for the generosity compliment. I learned that primarily from my dad…my mom is more…conservative.
I wish I had that problem. I go through perfume like no one’s business.
As you should…you are enjoying them!!!! That is part of the reason I am on a mission to get my collection down to a manageable number….years ago I kept my bottles to a maximum of ten but only had the fragrances that truly blew me away….I want to go back to that! I want to be WOWWED every morning when I spray on an old familiar love…..
Somehow, the juice seems to multiply inside the bottle! For example, each wearing of 28 La Pausa is 8 sprays, yet, the bottle looks barely used! I guess it is better than seeing it drain too fast!
You smell great!!! Love this one. The matching bath and body products are wonderful too!
Yes the soap is amazing and lingers forever on my skin….
The handsoap smells great!
If I dated some of my bottles..eek!
I feel like I should date them all. I have more discipline with face care and make-up (just the boxes though so I know which one to use next).
Spreadsheet!
The ones from 1Q’14 and later have the when purchased quarter so I am covered there.
OOOF! It’s such a lovely scent and deserves to be worn more often- but at least you have another four years!
LOL, I do worry about it turning as I’ve heard the Jo Malone’s have a tendency to do that! At least they are reasonably-priced!
Now there’s a great idea, labeling bottles with dates! I haven’t finished a bottle in at least 10 years and some of those are still in my collection. It would be fun (or horrifying) to see how little I’ve used over that time. I keep stockpiling but never use things up.
I’m dragging along today. Work and the dreary rain are making wish I were home, watching all my belongings pack themselves since it’s No Housework Day.
SOTD SL FdB which I got in the swap- I don’t think it was on my wish list, but I’m glad I have a decant now.
Moving is the pits, isn’t it? About the only good thing going for it is the sense of accomplishment as the boxes pile up. But you smell great!
Also its a great time to get rid of stuff!
Very true. We got rid of so much stuff when we moved 2 years ago. Weeding even more will be great.
Thanks! It is a pain and it feels like we just moved. But the new place is more spacious and just nicer so ultimately it’s a good thing.
They work faster if you don’t watch them. 🙂
Late to the party today! It will be easy for me to celebrate no housework day as I’ll be at work. 😉 Robin, I applaud your devotion to this holiday.
SOTD for dreary rain: Bottega Veneta
Love that one..
Me too!
I am not a fan of cleaning. You just have to do it all over again! So pointless 😉
Thanks to the Sephora sale, I am wearing TF Noir pour femme. Sweet and smokey on me. I originally thought it might be to masculine for me, but I think I have grown into it. I think it’s sexy without the flirty. If that makes sense?
Ha! That’s the one I bought my brother for Xmas (not knowing that the pour femme was the one for women). Needless to say, he loves it and still to this day, I haven’t told him the truth. So, it truly is unisex, even though it says pour femme.
oh, I remember you did that! honestly, your absolutely right, very unisex. I bet it smells great on him!
I got an unexpected bonus last year so I treated myself to that. I love it. But actually I love TF Noir Extreme- which is marketed towards men- even more!
It’s a deeply rich and lovely fragrance. It would be too much in heat if you are not careful, but I liked wearing it in winter!
I really like the Noir Extreme too! but it didn’t work as well for me as the pour femme.
Cuir d’Ange for me today. And I fully intend to celebrate No Housework day.
No Housework Day sounds good. I’m all for that! I’m wearing Frances Denney Interlude. I have a little bit of the bath & body perfume and it is a rich dark brown color. I know it’s the real color and has not turned, as I wore this years back.
Ooh! Envious of your Interlude. Wore it many, many, many years ago. Miss it.
Hello, all. I’m very late posting today: usual suspect–I slept badly. Don’t know why, but my nights are full of horrible dreams at the moment, the sort you wake up from tense and gasping. I’ve been countering the sourness of my dreams with sweet perfumes, so thank goodness for gourmands– if they didn’t already exist, I’d be forced to invent them. It’s Friday here, and I actually could join in the project because I’ve discovered I do own a SG perfume. Instead, though, I’m wearing the equivalent of a perfume blanky–I’m wrapped up in the warm sweet softness of Loukhoum. This stuff must be about 500 calories a spritz, and I’ve gone a bit mad–sort of, “Here, there, and why not quite a lot there as well?” Just as well we don’t seem to have no-scent policies in NZ!
I’ll have to try Loukhoum the next time I’m at Barneys. I have a high tolerance for SWEET (I’m looking at you Indult Tihota). I wish you a dreamless sleep but if you dream, pleasant ones for you to wake up refreshed!
The littlest bit of bois d’armenie combined with plenty of sunshine. Even the current, attenuated version has a great smell–just doesn’t last long. Might have to pull out my secret decant of the old stuff soon… Also might have to betray the no housework day, sorry comrades.
I was so sad to discover the current BdA is only a shadow of its former self. Must force myself to wear and not hoard the vintage.
I’m in Mitsouko, topped up from application after a shower last night.
I’ve decided it will be my ‘boo-boo scent’, and I’ve come up with a new mantra: “Mitsy’ll make it better.” I totally wiped out yesterday on the sidewalk in my front yard, and I’ve got scrapes (some quite nasty) and bruises on three separate limbs. Apparently, being a klutz is a lifetime sentence, and I’m destined to bite it at least once every decade. ????
I’ve slipped and fallen when conditions were icy a few times too. I hope you feel better tomorrow.
Thanks! Ugh, slipping and falling on ice is horrible! Unfortunately, in this case, it was around 96 outside. I’m just clumsy, and I randomly tripped and fell. I seem to lose a battle with gravity once every 10 years or so; it’s how I roll.
Yikes! Hope you feel better!
Thanks, I do already! “Yikes” is more or less what I thought in the split second I was nearing the ground. ????
Feel better
Thank you! ????
Oh no! Feel better! Yesterday; I thought I had bruised my left wrist but it turned out to be dirt I must have picked up from a box I was carrying.
Glad you didn’t bruise it!! My grandmother once had my sister (when she was small) re-wash her hands a couple times because there was a spot on her arm my grandmother was convinced was dirt, but it’s a birthmark! ????
That sounds mighty unpleasant, hope you heal quickly.
Thanks! It wasn’t too bad, but it surprised me enough that I got a rush of adrenaline a few minutes later when I was checking myself over. Anyway, I’m speeding the process along with arnica gel. And perfume. ????
Chaos at work ==> late post.
SOTD = Dior Eau Sauvage EDP, which is perfect for today. Cozy and rich, but not affable like Coromandel. Fulfills my desires and mood!
Don’t spend enough for Sephora VIB (nor do I want to), but the 10% Beauty Insider sale is this Saturday (April 9th). I should really pick up a full bottle of Eau Sauvage EDP then. Also, the L’Artisan Coffret of Timbuktu, La Chasse, and Mure et Musc is on sale right now at Sephora.
I gave that coffret to one of my nieces for christmas. If you are in store, they have somehow mixed the 2 x .17 oz (I think that’s the size) and the 3 x .17 oz in the same bin and are selling them for the same price.
Also, not sure if you have a Nordstrom by you, Nordies will match the discount. Lord & Taylor Friends and Family is coming up too starting tomorrow and it’s 10% off beauty.
Not enabling…
*puts enabler pin on hajusuuri* 🙂 Thanks for the advice!
I learned a new word today that may perhaps be helpful to those of you who fancy word games or Scrabble, ‘graupel.’. Apparently, that is the name given to the styrofoam not-quite-snow/not-quite-hail pellets that rained down on me as I was running errands today.
Not one of the fragrances in my current spring rotation was at all appealing on another February-like day, so I said Ha! to Mother Nature, two of us can play the same game! Then I reached backwards and chose Trish McEvoy No. 9 Blackberry and Vanilla Musk as my SOTD. Its sweetness and warmth were the scent comfort I needed today.
When I lived in the Rocky Mountains we referred to graupel as “corn snow”.
And we let the kids eat it. 😛
I never heard either term before, I’m surprised the kids would eat it because it really looks like styrofoam (albeit cold styrofoam!)
Some malls have vending machines that dispense ice cream that look like pastel colored ice pellets.
I have a travel size of this and I should probably consider it vintage!
Graupel is also a new word for me!
A new word for me, too, and I’ve been on this earth – and in this climate – many decades!
Wore Bottega Veneta today, carried me through a busy day nicely. Sweet dreams, all.
I love leather scents, so I really have to try to sniff that sometime…
