The damage so far: fourth quarter 2015 buying poll

Posted by Robin on 5 January 2016 229 Comments

Donatella Versace and her perfume cabinets

Goodbye, 2015! But you have one more tiny little chore before you can start 2016 with a clean slate. Donatella Versace, Our Lady of Scented Excess,1 wants to know what you bought in the 4th quarter (October, November and December) of 2015.

Update: the poll is now closed!

damage poll results

My purchases...

I bought absolutely nothing, nada, all year long. It's my first whole year of buying nothing since I fell down the rabbit hole in 2004, and it was interesting. I may write a post about it soon, but right now I'm too busy plotting my next perfume purchase.

As always, report your purchases in the comments if you dare! And as always, we don't include samples or gifts, and you can count miniatures, decants and bottle-splits howsoever you like (I usually count them as half bottles). Samples don't generally count at all, even though some of us spend considerable sums obtaining them.

1. Why does Donatella host (against her will, mind you) the damage polls? There is no real reason other than the picture of her perfume collection, which shows that she indulges regularly at the perfume counter. The image, by the way, is originally from Allure magazine and appears here courtesy of Blogdorf Goodman.

Donatella, confessing seems so insincere seeing I enjoyed every aspect of my new purchases, so here’s what I’m celebrating for the past 3 months! šŸ™‚
Although maybe there can be too much of a good thing, so while not regretting a thing, I promise to be less hedonistic next quarter and take some time to get to know these:

    SHL 777 Khol de Bahrein
    Oriza L. Legrand Jardins d’Armide
    Vero Profumo Kiki edp
    L’artisan Nuit de Tubereuse
    Goutal Grand Amour
    Burberry Brit Rhythm
    Cacharel Eden
    Diptyque Essences Insensees
    Jasmin
    Hiram Green Voyage
    Assion Perfumery Chocolatier’s
    Fougere
    Eau d’italie Jardin du Poete
    Tauer Lonestar Memories
    Reem Acra
    Byredo Flowerhead

I’ve been amazed at my restraint this quarter – one FB of La Rose by Le Galion, and that was actually my Christmas present from my mother. Lots of 1ml and 0.5ml samples from TPC and STC, so there are lots of things that might appear in future quarterly confessions.

In fact, I’ve been so good, I deserve a reward – maybe a bottle of perfume šŸ™‚

Seeya, 2015. Don’t let the door hit you in the backside on the way out. (No, it wasn’t all bad. All the same, I’m happy to see it end.)

I bought one bottle and two decants in the 4th quarter, total $118:
11ml MDCI Rose di Siwa, which is gorgeous
8 ml CdG Zagorsk, which for at least a year I thought I loved, working off a small sample, but the decant either smells different than the sample (I can’t check, I used up the sample!) or my nose has changed, or it was the wrong time/weather/SOMETHING.
50ml Penhaligon’s Ostara, which was 40% off at Haute Look and which was going to be my Christmas present, but then my husband surprised me by actually buying me something, so Ostara will be for my birthday. Lovely stuff.

Total perfume purchases for the year were $633. Ugh. Must spend less in 2016. New budget $200.

MDCI Rose de Siwa is gorgeous. I’ve got about 10 ml as part of the sample set that I bought earlier last year.

I recently had that happen- the sample was lovely, but the decant allowed enough more space for me to become aware of notes that had not been obvious before! Hopefully you can trade it for a decant of something you like better!

Oh, Donatella! We have much to discuss this quarter.

First, there are the mini’s. I bought several this quarter: Canoe Skive; SSS Amber Incense; Dior Grand Bal; By Kilian Liaisons Dangereuses; SL L’Incendiaire; Bvlgari Au The Vert and Au The Blanc; HdP 1826 and Noir Patchouli; La Via del Profumo Oakmoss, Sandalo di Mysore, and Amber Oud; Guerlain Winter Delice; vintage J’Adore Parfum. But according to Pixel’s Rules, minis don’t count, so we will discuss these no more.

Then there are the “is this a perfume” cases. Aftelier Ancient Resins is sold as a ‘hair elixir’, so surely this doesn’t count. And L’Occitane Winter Forest is a ‘room spray’; we can pass this by.

I swapped for a bottle of vintage Ralph Lauren Safari, but it was decidedly less than full, so again, we will set this aside. Same with the vintage Chanel No 5 EdT, less than 10ml left in that bottle, why that’s practically a mini, is it not?

On to slightly more challenging acquisitions: Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights and Roberto Cavalli Oro. Full bottles, certainly; but at $11 each, aren’t these just XXL samples? I could argue yes; but then it is hard to argue that a 100ml doorstop like JS FN can be overlooked. And that Oro bottle is absurdly tall, standing head and shoulders above the crowd; makes it tough to ignore. We may have to count these for something… let’s say half a FB each.

Now we reach the FBs for which I have no wiggle room. But oh Donatella, the sales, the sales!
    1. Arquiste J Crew #57 (on clearance!)
    2. Arquiste J Crew #31 (on clearance!)
    3. Body Shop Smoky Poppy (discontinued!)
    4. 10 Corso Como (great deal from FIF)
    5. Lubin Idole (another great deal from FIF)
    6. Madhat Scents Sandiver (but we should support small independents, shouldn’t we?)
    7. Rouge Bunny Rouge Arcadia (on sale!)
    8. Tauerville Amber Flash (because)
    9. Cartier Baiser du Dragon (Costco!)
    10. Yohji Yamamoto Yohji Homme (ahhh…..)
    11. Smell Bent Winter Vixen (on sale! AND a small independent…)
    12. Smell Bent Incensed Short Fuse (on sale!)
    13. Ormonde Jayne Ormonde Woman (on sale!)
    14. Monotheme Boccioli di Limone (on clearance!)
    15. Bvlgari Au The Vert (on clearance!)

Mitigating circumstances: I swapped, sold, or gave away 5 FB’s this quarter.

So you see, once we pull out our perfumath calculators, I bought 15 FB’s plus two half-FB’s, minus 5, which leaves me with +11.

I would promise to exercise more self-restraint in the coming quarter, but I have broken that promise already, so let’s not bother, hmm? I *do* intend to behave once the weather gets too warm for shopping-by-mail. But that is a delightful ways off.

      Well, there you go.

I count minis in terms of 15mls – so if I bought one micro-mini Guerlain parfum (let’s just say), that’s 1.5ml, then, say, a mini of Poison elixir de parfum, that’s 5ml, than a 4ml of Dolce Vita parfum, and then maybe a 5ml bottle of… oh… Juicy Couture parfum, THEN it adds up to a full bottle. Just sayin’. šŸ˜‰

It’s utterly gorgeous. I got the Maharadjah candle. I’ve had a bottle of Maharadjah edp or edt for years and accidentally some of it got on my ironing board months ago which made me realise that the scent works so well as a room fragrance. (And doing the ironing actually became quite enjoyable as a result)
PdN soaps are lovely. So far I had only been familiar with the Eau d’EtĆ© and CĆ©drat soap, and I forgot to mention that I bought a Rose and Santal soap as well.

Problem is I now want more candles.

    I bought only two bottles:

Mohur extrait $445.00, but the cost was off set by the two 10 ml splits- but I still look at that bottle on my dresser in amazement. Still my favorite scent ever, and my discretionary bank account has recovered.

Rose Musc $75.00 also a weekend fave, so I am pleased with my fourth quarter acqisitions.

First quarter 2016 will be a challenge as I am coming to the end of several decants and will need to make FB vs 2nd decant decisions! Such pleasant problems to have, I know!

Lords of misrule and Rose Jam shower gels (BOGO so a great value)
Smoky Poppy Shower gel and scrub- on clearance
Chanel 5 bath oil (from Goodwill in Beaverton! Unopened! $10!)

Oh wow, No. 5 bath oil… why doesn’t MY Goodwill sell fragrances? (It doesn’t take donations of them, either. Nor, bizarrely, does the local women’s resource center.)

I have found no Texas thrift or resale shops who will accept or sell fragrance either. I was told it’s against the law but have yet to find such a law.

Where in Texas are you? I’m in Houston and while I haven’t had any luck with thrift stores, I have occasionally found stuff in resale shops. Most of my good finds have been at antique shops, though.

Usually Austin/San Antonio and surrounding Hill Country, but as far south as the RGV a couple times a year.
I don’t thrift that much, but like to take a quick peek now and then and I do donate stuff fairly regularly and nobody accepts what they consider “personal products”. I’m pretty sure it was a huge thrift store in Dallas that gave me the story about the law, and our local battered women’s shelter can’t take perfume because it’s considered hazardous. Guess there’s a gray area and it isn’t worth the risk.

Bottles – Shalimar Ode a la Vanille Sur la Route du Mexique, Repetto

Splits – Dior Gris Montaigne, Profumum Italia Ambra Aurea

Decants – Hermes Ambre Narguile, Parfum d’Empire Ambre Russe, Dries Van Noten Par Frederic Malle (travel spray)

Not too bad, money wise, especially since the two bottles were from discounters. All the splits and decants were fragrances that I’d been wanting since last winter. For the new year, I want to cut out decants and splits and focus on buying a select few full bottles.

I have mixed feelings about decants. I’m very glad to have them but, on the other hand, it’s marvelous to have a FB of a true love. I consider my FBs my “real” perfume collection.

My new strategy is to only buy a FB if I can wear it at least six months in a year. A few, like Dior Eau Noir, which I love, have a very short wearing season for me. That seems like a good way to control decant and FB spending. We’ll see!

My feelings are mixed, too. Buying decants has been a great way to obtain perfumes that are too big and expensive as full bottles. All the decants and splits I bought this year are things that I enjoy immensely but do not wear very often. For example, Ambra Aurea is the perfect ambergris fragrance, but I would never use up the 100 ml bottle or pay $240 for it.

That said, I want to grow my “real” FB collection and focus on those perfumes that I want to wear over and over again, all through the year. All those little bottles can make my perfume mind feel cluttered. The six month minimum is a good rule!

Not a bad strategy. There are also those scents that you don’t spray, just dab, and a little at that, and so a FB is nuts. Decants can last a good long time with those fragrances.

Yes it is. I had been planning to buy it for about a year prior so I think I will call it a deferred purchase from earlier quarters and, in the spirit of fuzzy bookkeeping, assign it a value of 0.25. Retroactively, I add 0.25 to my counts from the three previous quarters.

    Two FBs:
    Chanel Misia
Prada Infusion d’Iris edp. Thanks to you lovely swappers I’ve had decants of this for years. It was finally time to commit to a bottle.
Both of these are perfumes I can wear 9-12 months out of the year which makes them great investments. (And the Prada was cheap.)

    Two decants:
5 ml Misia (before I bought the bottle)
5 ml Dior Eau Noire, for the frosty days of winter!

It feels like I must be forgetting something, but I think I only bought two bottles:
    – Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena
    – Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendre
I absolutely love both. I have decided not to buy any perfumes, skincare or beauty products in January. There’s so much skincare I need to use up (I have something like 15 cleansers) and I want to sort and wear my fragrance samples, so I’ll focus on that.

This was not a good quarter for me – I have a feeling I am going to be the worst offender here. I was doing pretty well, but the Roja Dova outlet clearance has gotten me off track. I have justified that I have saved a lot of money by buying it on sale, but truth is, I would have never bought it at the original price, so the whole ‘saved money’ argument does not hold water.
    So, here is the damage
    1.Amber Extract
    2.Vetevier Extract
    3.Liliac Extract
    4.Begamot Extract
    5.Danger – Femme
    6.Enslaved – Femme
    7.Scandal – Femme
    8.Unspoken – Femme
It was also a quarter of my birthday, so the following were given as gifts to myself by myself
9.Hiram Green Voyage – got an excellent deal on it at FiF although the time between order and delivery was 1+ month – it was sitting at the customs
    10. Anatole Lebreton L’Eau Scandaleuse. Quite impressed with it, and again, it was an excellent deal at FiF
And on top of it, the Parfume Shoppe had a 50% sale, and sadly I was able to find something there
    11.Yosh Sombra Nera
    12.Yosh Ginger Ciao
I ended up hiding the bottles so that my husband does not see Roja – I told him I only got 2 bottles.
No purchases for me until next Fall, unless it is a split or a swap.

Oops, I accidentally pressed 2-4 bottles. Sorry, but I went over this amount. Here is what I bought over the last 3 months. Full bottles:
    1. Hermes Hiris
    2. Marchesa Parfum d’Extase
    3. Bvlgari Au The Bleu
    4. Estee Lauder Cinnabar
    5. Rochas Eau de Rochas

    Decants:
    1. Chanel No. 22
    2. Guerlain Pamplelune

I also bought Lush R & B Hair Moisturizer. I included it in here because I bought it 2 weeks ago, and each time I wear it, I’ve had people ask me what perfume I have on. It is very fragrant.

I have been enjoying these scents very much. I’m going to focus on enjoying that, and try to resist buying any fragrance for a little while.

Its a leave-in conditioner, I put it on the ends of my hair when the frizziness happens.

I was so bad this quarter – I think I really should not buy any more perfume this year or ever, really. At least nearly everything was heavily discounted. Here goes:

Amouage Beloved, Epic and Lyric (the last two were travel sprays)
    Atelier Rose Anonyme
Annick Goutal Rose Absolue and Nuit Etoilee (both EDP)
Estee Lauder Knowing and Private Collection
Guerlain Mitsouko EDP (replacement for a bottle I drained) and L’Huere Bleu EDP (because I am determined to learn to love this one)
    Serge Lutens Bois et Fruits
    Chanel No. 5 EDP
    Mohur EDP

Well, thanks to swaps, actual gifts, and purchases I was able to foist off to family as did-you-need-help-figuring-out-what-to-get-me?? gifts, I can totally distort the number of bottles I acquired this quarter and claim it was only TWO! $65 on two backup bottles of disappeared-from-retailers, discontinuation-status-unclear Honore des Pres Sexy Angelic. Slightly nutbars, but 1, it really is a very light, fleeting fragrance, so I’ll go through it more quickly than I do most of my bottles, and 2, the shipping cost was going to be the same either way, so the second bottle was only $26. How could I turn that down?!

(We shan’t speak of what I acquired through other methods.)

I used Robin’s idea to count minis and decants as half-bottles, so I got eight. And I keep ignoring 5 ml decants considering them samples.
Shalimar EDP 30 ml. The only FB I bought during the fourth quarter. I thought I would escape buying a FB this time, but I could not resist the discount.
By Kilian Sweet Redemption 7.5 ml (refill)
Pacifica Inc. Tahitian Gardenia 10 ml (rollerball mini)
    And the rest are decants:
Comptoir Sud Pacifique L’Eau du Gouverneur 9 ml
    Diptyque Eau Lente 9 ml
Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose 10 ml
Le Couvent des Minimes Cologne of the Missions 20 ml
    Penhaligon’s Castile 7 ml
Pierre Balmain Ivoire 2012 10 ml
Pierre Balmain Jolie Madame 10 ml
    Robert Piguet Fracas 7 ml
Serge Lutens L’Eau Froide 20 ml

    3. Olfactive Studio – Panorama
    4. Bruno Fazzolari – Au Dela

I got some vintage Guerlain micro-minis, but as those are 1-2 ml, I’ll count them as samples. I also picked up a few full minis antiquing one of which (Estee Lauder Private Collection) I’ve been wearing.

Staying power is not good! I get about an hour of lovely sharp green and then it dies down to a faint fig(?) sort of smell. I love it while it lasts but TBH I probably would not have bought a full bottle if I’d not also been supporting a local shop because of the low staying power.

Oh. šŸ™ So, this quarter was not my best, but seeing everyone else’s lists reminds me that what we’re really doing is compiling joy, and that made me feel much better.

    Rollerballs:
    J. Crew 57
    J. Crew 31
    Nirvana Black

    Bottles:
    Bijou Romantique
    LADDM
    Vintage Shalimar parfum
    Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme
    Mohur EDP (on sale, though!)
    Shalimar Parfum Initial

I intentionally refrained from making any purchases after my trip to the duty free store after Christmas solely so I wouldn’t have to add anything else to this list.

Oh dear…I should really stop sniffing altogether as I keep finding stuff I must have. 4th quarter purchases were:

    100ml Theorema
    100ml Kerosene Unforsaken
    20ml Hiram Green Voyage (split)
    50ml Cuir Mauresque
    40ml vintage Organza Indecence
    50ml Roberto Cavalli Oro
    10ml DSH Oeillets Rouge
    50ml Un Bois Vanille
    10ml Origins Ginger Essence
50ml Roja Dove Lilac extrait (from his outlet sale)

Total was about $800. There was also a bottle of Lorenzo Villaresi Sandalo, but it doesn’t count because it was a souvenir of my Thanksgiving in Phoenix, and according to my perfume logic souvenirs don’t count. I got it at the Perfume Shoppe, a lovely place to visit.

It doesn’t smell like Mysore, it’s more on the Australian end of the spectrum, and it smells more “aromatic woody” than sandalwoody. There is no sweetness to it and I think it will be wonderful in summer when other sandalwoods can seem cloying or oppressive.

Only one bottle this quarter! It was sort of an impulse buy at the airport- Gucci Oud. I’ve worn it quite a lot though, it’s a pretty uncomplicated casual sort of perfume- at least compared to my usual Amouages and Guerlains!
Next quarter will probably be worse, I have several bottles in my eye…

Congratulations, Robin, on making through the whole year without a purchase! I hope you have made a nice dent in your collection by giving what you already own some good wearings. I, myself, keep thinking I’ll have a quarter without a purchase, but something always comes up. This quarter I bought two things I’m just loving and wearing the heck out of: Guerlain Ylang & Vanille (such a wearable and easy everyday type of fragrance) and vintage Bellodgia PdT (my long-time favorite in extrait–but I always wanted to be able to spritz that stuff). I hereby vow not to buy anything this next quarter, unless, of course, I come across a chance to buy a vintage or discontinued treasure (my downfall).

Cosign the scent on the Godiva bar! Smells terrific. Quick notes of warning that 1, it dried out my hair, and 2, I’m afraid it turned before I could finish using it. So I recommend using it as a soap, and next time I get one, I’ll be sure to use it freely rather than saving as special treat–very use it or lose it.

This year I only bought 4 full bottles in 2015, and none were in this quarter. I’ve bought loads of minis, discovery sets, coffrets, perfume oil samples, etc. I was appalled at what I had spent for the year, which was over $1,000. Thus my resolution not to buy anything until I have worn everything in my collection at least once. Hopefully, I won’t let this resolution fall by the wayside, as have so many others. Oh what I could have done with $1,000 dollars last year (other than buying perfume).

Foxbins list and perfume logic emboldened me to make a list :

Souvenirs ( for which you paid) that friends bring back for you from their trips “just in case you are in the neighborhood otherwise don’t bother”, probably don’t count…OJ Vanille D’Iris

I was drawn in by sales and promotions during the end of 2015.
Now I will see how long I can limit myself to only using the gift cards I earned. Really looking forward to Robin’s post!

    Hiram Green Voyage

Woohoo, welcome 2016. The last quarter of 2015 I bought 3 full bottles and 3 minis, here goes:

Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille (I was in a warm vanilla, sweet mood)
    ELdO Putain des Palace
    L’AP Saffran Troublant (was cheap)
Miller Harris woods collection trio of minis (15ml each and was cheap)

Total damage Ā£164. 3 is not great, but less than the quarter before. And I know I’ll definitely enjoy these lovelies. I’m hoping this year will see me through fewer purchases and to use up the lovely perfumes I’ve been since falling down the rabbit hole.

    Patou Sublime 30mls
Chanel No 19 EDP 35mls (a Christmas present to myself)

Although most of the year was quite spartan, perfume-wise, I went a little nuts in November and December buying five full bottles and four decants. The decants were Atelier Cedrat Enivrant (10 ml.), Diptyque Oud Palao (10 ml.), Annick Goutal Le Chevrefeuille (8 ml.), and Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Eau Absolue (5 ml.). Full bottles were Tom Ford Shanghai Lily, Hermes Le Jardin de Monsieur Li, Lutens Five O’Clock du Gingembre, Chanel Bois des Isles, and Amouage Memoir. All bottles were from discounters or part of Sephora 20% off sale.

two! shalimar edp 50ml, in a gift box on sale. Came with a pretty good mascara with ridiculously heavy packaging. I wonder what they put in their cosmetics’ cases, they all weigh a ton. Etro Palais Jamais, big 100ml vat of bright green perfume. On clearance, which is bad for my nerves. I’m likely to sneak back and get a small bottle of Messe de Minuit or Patchouly. I have no resolve.

lord of misrule made waking up early slightly more bearable this quarter, ensuring I got to work on time. Obviously not a purchase for pleasure, rather a prudent investment in my career!

I was very good–perfume-wise at least!-this quarter. I bought two partial bottles, 4/5 full 1.5 oz Hermes Terre de Hermes edt and a 1/3 full bottle of YSL L’Homme edt 2 oz ( or 20 ml) there were a couple of travel cosmetic bags and a couple of partial Jack Black after shave balms in the lot too. All for the princely sum of 150……..pennies! With another $9 for shipping.
Lest anyone think I am some paragon of self restraint, let me assure one and all that the ladies and gentlemen of the fragrance counters have Not failed in making sales . The counters of EstƩe,Arden,Clinique, and Sephora have had tribute(s) paid this quarter. My wallet is crying about it, and my cosmetics drawer is burping.
As far as next quarter is concerned, I should probably slow down. Three days into the new year and I’ve already bought three perfumes and a matching lotion for one of them!

    Let’s see. . .
Tolu, which doesn’t count because I’d drained a decant AND it was on sale.
A la Nuit, which was under $100, so that’s like free.
The Malle Coffret, but those are all 15mL, so they don’t count.
Une Rose Chypree, which I’ve almost drained the first bottle of, so this doesn’t count since it’s just a replacement bottle.
Beloved, as a large sample, so it doesn’t really count.

    So, all told. Nothing, really!

Two years into perfumista-hood, with only samples and a few minis, and then this quarter, BAM!

    NV Mohur Extrait split

Misouko EDP and Encre Noire (buy one, second one half off at Target online)

    Azemour les Orangers (half off)

Bois des Iles extrait (my gift to myself for getting a new job)

I was a little appalled once I tallied everything up until I realized that the only full-price purchase on my list was Cuir de Russie (which I made my H buy for me as I couldn’t make my finger click ā€œbuyā€ on my own.) I haven’t bought anything bigger than a rollerball in ages. I’ll always choose the smallest packaging available (this applies to all beauty categories – skincare, makeup, hair products) which in fragrance terms usually means minis, so this quarter was a big change in buying habits.

    Full bottles:
    Cuir de Lancome
Shalimar Ode a La Vanille Sur La Route De Mexique
    ELd’O Fils de Dieu
    Chanel Cuir de Russie

    Small bottles:
    15 ml Hermes Cuir d’Ange
    20 ml Balenciaga Paris
30 ml Atelier Sous le toit de Paris
    30 ml Kenzo Flower
    30 ml Esprit d’Oscar
15 ml Annick Goutal Vanille Exquise
    EL Bronze Goddess rollerball

Various full and partial bottles of vintage: Oscar de la Renta, Chanel 5 & 22, Opium, Vanderbilt

Minis: Cacharel Lou Lou, Lolita Lempicka

    Sets:
    Ann Gerard discovery set
    ELd’O sample set

Decant Orders: 7, each around $40-50, but none larger than 3 ml so they go down as samples

I’m not counting my late December purchases of Ormonde Jayne and Rosine sets, my Sonoma Scent Studios order, or vintage Ungaro Diva mini, as they are my January bday gifts to myself. Also not counting the 10 or so ebay purchases I’ve made in the first few days of this year as a last dash before my new year no/low-buy starts in earnest…

I have bern really bad about keeping my spreadsheet up to date lately, which means I can’t remember what I bought last quarter. Sweetgrass reminded me about the bottle of Kenzo Flower, and I’m reasonably sure there was one more (Eau des Merveilles perhaps?), but that was probably all. (Oh, wait – a bottle of Grey Flannel … but seriously, $12 surely doesn’t count.) I’m thinking that means I can indulge a little THIS quarter, yes? And Azemour! I had it wrapped and waiting for a month or so, and apparently it FELT like I waited six months or a year to open it, but it really did arrive during the 4th quarter. šŸ™‚

Late to the party as usual. I did buy quite a bit and I’m thinking about 13 bottles and I got a lot of vintage Mitsouko and more vintage Bal. But now, the party is over for a couple months.

I am late to this party as well….
I purchased 5 bottles for the fourth quarter:

    1. Deseo by Jennifer Lopez (got a FB for really cheap) – October
    2. Leiber by Judith Leiber (since this scent has been discontinued, it is hard to find; 2 refill sprays off of Ebay) – October
    3. Nectarine Blossom and Honey by Jo Malone ( got a FB – always have some on hand; my favorite) – November
    4. Dark Amber& Ginger Lily by Jo Malone (got a FB) – November
    5. Amour Nocturne by L’Artisan (got a FB for a great price at HauteLook) – November

    Total: $439.00 (YIKES!)
I have already made a vow that I will buy more decants and try even more things and slow down on my spending on FB. We will see how it goes.

I checked 2-4, but I’m really not sure.
    In december I got:
Jo Malone Tudor rose & amber, 30 ml off ebay.
Jul et Mad NƩa, full bottle
L’Artisan Mure et musc 30 ml
    Penhaligons Iris prima 50 ml

I’m still waiting on Mure et must & Iris prima, as they both are from allbeautys great christmas sale. Was around 70 euros for both.

Full price for SMN Vaniglia (100ml) and Lush Sikkhim Girls (10ml)

And then I bought the following from a friend who was no longer enamored:

Miller Harris: L’air de Rien; Balmain: Pour Monsieur and Patou: 1000

I also found Creed’s Fantasie de Fleur – a tester with about 20mls left and scooped it up for about $20

Also got two bottles of perfumes as gifts and made one happy swap.

Laid out like that it almost looks reasonable 😮

For better or for worse, 2015 was a slow year. I still managed to buy about 18 bottles (as opposed to the 64 fb of 2013).
I’m usually more accurate than that as I normally record my purchases, but this year I didn’t… and my memory is fuzzy this morning.
So, to the best of my recollection:
    -TFPB Tobacco Vanille 50ml
    -TFPB Black Violet 100ml
    -TF Noir edp 50ml
-Atelier Cologne Gold Leather 100ml (and got 25 ml of Oud Saphir as a bonus)
    -Calandre
    -Fendi (THE original)
    -Potion Royal Black
    -Eau d’Ikar
    -Ted Lapidus Creation
    -Eau de Rochas pour Homme
    -Coach Leatherware #2
    -Costume National Homme
    -Silences

    the rest escapes me!

I should read better. That was for the whole year, not just for the 4th quarter.

Really light (but successful) quarter for me in terms of FBs:

    FL Parfums Don d’Amour
    Diptyque Essences Insensees 2014 (mimosa)
    vintage Jean Couturier Keora

I also acquired a large number of samples, decants and splits. Based on price and the weight of the heavy lead crystal bottle, I ought to count the half split of Thierry Mugler Oriental Express (with huge thanks to hajusuuri!).

It was a very slow quarter for me, totally by choice. If my memory is correct, the only purchase I made was the solid of Diptyque’s EI Jasmine, I think, in October. I didn’t even get anything for Xmas present to myself. I realized I desperately needed a new snazzy work hand bag and some new shoes…. Sometimes, fragrance has to wait when the rest of the wardrobe is getting a little shabby. I think I’m going to get thrown out of the club, lol.

    I slowed down a little in the fourth quarter, but still bought 6 bottles;
    Cuir de lancome
L’Air de Rien & Rose en Noir,
    miller Harris
    safari
    Ambre des Merveilles.
The only new/full bottle was Cuir de Lancome.

I used a lot of restraint and only purchased 3: SL Fourreau Noir, Roja Dove Lilac extrait in the outlet sale, and Nirvana Black. Bought some bath and body products too but apparently those don’t count. šŸ™‚

Hmmm, trying not to think too hard about this. I believe I added just two adorable leetle bottles to my scent library last quarter: travel sized Vanille Galante. Love, love, love.

(Wafting many fragrant thank yous to Our Scented Lady of the Infinite Perfume Splits . . .

yes, you know who you are!)

I see that I’m in good company this quarter! When it comes to perfume I subscribe to the 3 R’s:
    – (No) Resolutions
    – (No) Restraint
    – But, there ARE Rules (mine) – samples, decants, minis, used / vintage purchases, candles, body wash, soaps, shampoos are excluded

    1. Adam Levine For Her EDP (too cheap to pass up at Marshalls)
    2. Adam Levine For Him EDT (ditto above)
    3. Aftelier Perfumes Bergamoss EDP (x2), one was from an NST Santa Claudette
    4. By Killian Voulez Vous Coucher Avec Moi (I hesitated with this one because I bought the clutch and it came with the perfume; en plus, I bought this with gift cards.)
    5. Chanel No. 19 EDT (for science)
    6. Frederic Malle Coffret (eh…all travel sprays so technically none count; also see Marjorie Rose’s list)
    7. Huitieme Art Shermine
    8. Isabey Lys Noir (Sniffapalooza, for science)
    9. Jacomo Silences (a gift from Santa Claudette)
    10. Le Galion Iris
    11. Marc Jacobs Bang (too cheap to pass up at Marshalls)
    12. Patricia de Nicolai Ambre Cashmere Intense
    13. Penhaligon Juniper Sling (Sniffapalooza, for science)
    14. Philosophy Fresh Cream (bought during a Sephora discount event)
    15. Rania J Ambre Loup (back-ups don’t count…remember, MY rules)
    16. Tauerville Amber Flash

Portions of these ended up getting split, so they don’t really count. I’ve created a new category called Community Service Perfumes:
    1. Chanel Sycomore (the BIG 200 mL bottle)
    2. Hermes Hermessence Iris Ukiyoe (1 from the 4-bottle coffret)
    3. Hiram Green Voyage
    4. Parfum d’ Empire Tabac Tabou
    5. Thierry Mugler Oriental Express

    I also gave perfume gifts:
    1. Atelier Cologne Gift Card Tin (x2)
    2. Hermes Hermessence Cuir d’ Ange
    3. L’Artisan mini coffret
    4. Philosophy Fresh Cream ornament (x2)

I love your new category called Community Service Perfumes. If you’re giving to the community that’s considered a charitable gift, right? šŸ˜‰

It’s a bit sweeter vs my expectations but it is absolutely wearable in and out of the office! I generally have no issues with sweetness (hello there Tihota).

Have you seen the clutch in person? It is swoon-worthy! Two gold snakes frolicking on a sea of black.

I have absolutely loved reading everyone’s posts! So fun. I was a very good girl this past quarter and only bought two bottles (my penance for previous quarter):
    Repetto
    Tom Ford Noir de Noir
