Happy New Year's Eve! Drive safely, everyone. What fragrance are you wearing to celebrate?
The weather here isn't really cold enough for it, but I'm wearing a tiny dab of Donna Karan Black Cashmere.
Reminder: tomorrow we're celebrating the New Year...wear the perfume that will bring you luck, health and prosperity in 2016. And don't forget, the damage poll is coming up next Tuesday!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: tobacco leaf vases from Haiti are available in a number of styles and prices on Donna Karan's Urban Zen website, and proceeds help to support the Haiti Artisan Project.
SOTD: Héritage (EDP) (Guerlain). Happy New Year everyone! 🙂
And to you!
Oooohh, nice, love the edp. My decant is almost gone. 🙁 Happy New Year.
It has been a rough week. Wearing Encens et Lavande today, it’s the most calming fragrance I know. Enjoy the weekend, everyone!
Hope the weekend is better!
Then I’m glad a whole new year starts tomorrow. Enjoy your clean slate. 🙂
Hermes Hiris is my SOTD . Happy new year!
You smell fantastic of course!
Hiris is one of my all time favorites and still my go-to scent.
Love that one! It’s a summer staple here in the swamp- you smell Fab!
Prada Infusion d’Iris absolue, day two! It’s a warming fragrance for a cold day.
For fun today I may make a list of the Best of 2015 perfumes from various blogs. I’m curious to see which perfumes get the most mentions, but also I want to create a list of things I meant to sample.
Happy new year to you and your families and friends and pets!
That does sound fun, but lots of work! If you figure out the overall favorite of 2015, do let us know.
I spent some time on Surrender to Chance this morning ordering samples of some of the recs that I hadn’t tried yet (which would be most 2015 releases). Haven’t been able to find samples of Orlov Cross of Asia yet, which is on more than one list.
Making a master list is a fantastic idea! I’m sure there are perfumes from the 2014 lists that I’ve forgotten to try, not to mention prior years.
It’s going to be fun to see what kind of consensus there will be and then try to narrow down the list to things I might actually like! Even if a perfume is only mentioned once or twice, it may be a reminder of one I was interested in and promptly forgot about.
Am having fun creating such a master list as well! I love lists and crossing things off 🙂 So far it looks like Iris Cendre, Pichola, Bergamoss and Alaia are getting a lot of mentions.
It’s a fun thing to do on a holiday, isn’t it?! I’ve yet to smell the four you mentioned. A sample of Iris Cendre is headed to my mailbox though. Can’t wait to try it!
I’ve made a virtual list too, I came to the same conclusion, adding Narciso, which could be a 2014, and Bulgari thé bleu.. in a last sprint I’ m testing most of them, have to order a Pichola sample however. Winners for the moment are Narciso and iris cendré. HAPPY 2016 EVERYONE 🙂
Those tobacco leaf vases are beautiful.
Wearing Vanilla Smoke, which I love. FutureMrEleebelle can’t stand it, but fortunately, I think it will wear off before I’m home from work, at which point, I’ll put on something more festive (even though I plan to spend the night being cozy at home, instead of going out).
Happy New Years everyone!!!
I’m not normally tempted by vanilla, but Vanilla Smoke sounds lovely…
I love vanilla in all shapes and sizes, but Vanilla Smoke isn’t sweet, so I think it would be appealing to people who don’t usually like vanilla. Plus, the lapsang souchong note…. yum!
I would love to know if the vases had any smell! Would be lovely if they did.
Happy New Years everyone!
Wearing Oeillet Bengale today. Love the spice in this one.
We were invited to a party tonight – but I think we’re staying home to watch football. Beginning of what our weekend will likely look like… sitting on the couch with football on and me potentially binge-watching something on Netflix or Amazon. Or playing with my coloring book.
Hope everyone has a wonderful evening!
Coloring books are so IT for those of us past the fruitchouli (caught the spell check error in time – dear Siri – What in the world is “fruit housing”?, but I digress) target market! Barnes and Noble’s prime space at the entrance holds stacks of coloring books!!Even the airport bookstores have them. I mentioned to the B&N SA several weeks ago that they should display colored pencils right next to the coloring books and his response was the colored pencils keep selling out. Ummm really? I saw loads of them innate children’s section. Have a happy New Year!
Darn spell check – not innate – in the !
My daughter gave me a colouring book for Xmas – curious role reversion. It was sweet of her and I think she thinks I was interested in them because she had seen me browsing them several times at the shops. In fact I was curious about the colouring phenomenon, not necessarily wanting one myself.
But having acquired one, I have had to borrow my kids colouring pencils! Do I have any colouring pencils? Of course not. 🙂
I have a coloring book of paisleys. It was pleasant, but with the spaces so tiny it was tough to keep the pencil points sharp enough to stay within them. The points kept breaking off when sharpened. Also hard on the eyes after a while. Old age, I know. 🙂
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Wearing Voleur de Roses. GORGEOUS! Roses done right….with some sexy added in!
Kind of dread confessing to the damage poll….but it will be good for my soul, and a guilt trip to keep me behaving for a while! 🙂
This is on my list of roses to try. I just love the name. 🙂
I’m wearing the decant of L’Ombre dans L’eau that I got after testing it in a store and falling hard. Only…it appears I tested the EdP! Fortunately I also really like the EdT, but now I also need to get an EdP decant.
Also, does anyone have experience with the solid? I’m tempted by both the pretty compact and the price…
I’ve had solids of L’Ombre and Philosykos. They don’t project much but the portability is nice and those heavy little compacts do feel nice as well. I think the oil rollerball has more oomph from what I can recall.
Thanks! Did you have any problems with the solids drying out / turning?
Not that I recall. And I had the Philosykos for a few years. Don’t recall them melting either(I think it’s some sort of silicone base-not an oil.
Shalimar Ode à lá Vanille for me today. Good Stuff.
Mmm, you smell great!
Thank you!
Wearing Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple, perfect for the contemplation of the New Year. When it quiets down, I will add some vetiver essential oil to pulse points.
I think that Papillon Salome is the must try of 2015! I look forward to it!
It does sound dreamy from the reviews!
Salome didn’t work out for me and I think I’ve passed along my sample to thegoddessrena.
Salome was an interesting sniff…but not for me either.
That sounds ideal for the new year!
Not sure what I’ll wear later, but right now I’m wearing my last blind buy of 2015, FL Parfums Don d’Amour. I had been coming across articles about this line for a while, and finally decided to try one of them. They also sent me several samples, which I’ll be testing over the next few days, but I’m very happy with Don d’Amour. To me it’s a rose-citrus-ambergris scent that reminds me slightly of the style of Aftelier, with a floating quality, reminiscent of the also music-inspired Ys-Uzac. Very nice!
Here’s the NYT article about conductor Fabio Luisi and his perfumes:
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/06/fashion/the-met-conductor-fabio-luisi-seduced-by-creating-his-own-perfumes.html
“Last blind buy of 2015”, ha! There’s still time yet to make another blind buy 😉
Pixel, you are evil 😉
Good point – who knows what will catch my fancy while I’m waiting for the ball to drop! 😉
Hmm so true! And I’ve a voucher for Ross and three different scents that sounded good…I may have to dash out…
I only have to work half of a day with only one other coworker in my office. She mind scent so I am wearing a lot of Lyric. I guess that I am ending 2015 with roses.
she doesn’t mind scent…
Thought maybe you were developing a mischievous streak.. 🙂
I work with a person who doesn’t like perfume and makes comments about whatever I am wearing. I try not to overspray but I do get tired of hearing her. Since she isn’t here today, I am enjoying my freedom!
You deserve it! I’m glad you lavishly applied!
Hey, the sun’s peeking out from the chronic gloom! So far just the vestiges of last night’s 24, Faubourg. Will peruse selections post shower and come up with something completely different.
It peeked out here for a short while, but not nearly long enough. Right now all I want from 2016 is SUNSHINE.
Not sure what to wear yet, dithering between Passage d’Enfer and Chaos on one hand, Saffron Troublant and Alahine on the other. But then something incensy sees appropriate…decisions, decisions 🙂
Passage d’Enfer it is. Happy celebrations and Happy New Year everyone.
I had to leave the house far too early this morning to have a few items taken care of before starting my new job on Monday, but the good news is that don’t have tuberculosis. Yeehaw!
Couldn’t quite decide what to start the day with, but ended up with L’ambre de Merveilles on my scarf, and I love its warmth and (to my mind) optimism. Feels like a good tone to set for the year.
Back on the subway to head home – will check in later. Happy New Year!!
Um, congratulations? I’m sorry that you had bad enough symptoms to think you might have TB in the first place. And riding the subway while sick…I’ve been there, you poor thing. Wishing you coziness and good health in the new year.
I shouldn’t post before I have the proper amount of caffeine! I never thought I had TB, and I’m sorry that my tone wasn’t clear. I was sleepy and trying to be playful but maybe I should have included a winking emoji.
I’m going to be working in fundraising for a hospital system, and even though I won’t be working with patients, a lot of tests were required before I could start in my new position, and the most demanding of these time-wise was the tuberculosis test. This morning I was making my fourth trip back and forth to the workplace heath and safety office (an hour and a half to two hours each way) just for these prick tests and the follow up for each one. So I was trying to joke about being relieved about not having an illness I knew I didn’t have, buuuuut I failed. Sorry!
Wishing you coziness and health in the new year too!
Ahh, this makes sense. Well sort of makes sense–it seems insane they won’t let people go to their own local doctor for these tests and have her/him send in a form with the results!
What a drag to have to schlep that far to have them read that darned thing! I had to do that as well when I started my job (the hospital is in the Bronx). Good luck and hope it goes smoothly. Hope that’s not your daily commute…
Apparently I wasn’t awake yet either or I might have realized you certainly didn’t act like someone with TB! And don’t apologize for your joke – it ended up being far funnier than you intended. 🙂
The TB check was required by your new employer, right? Glad you had a clean bill of health!
That makes so much more sense. Her spirits were too good for someone who might have had TB. Still wishing coziness and good health in the new year, though. Those are always good things. 🙂
Most people would probably make the same assumption. I work in HR.
Lol, is it bad that I find this strangely reassuring? I still feel angry for the time the French government made me get naked in front of their immigration officials, for a chest x-ray to prove I didn’t have TB. Somehow I feel better to hear mandatory TB testing is not a totally unknown practice??
Yikes – I am so sorry you had to go through that!
My TB tests were simple skin pricks, and I was just annoyed for having to travel a total of three hours for each one and for each follow up, but I’ll take it if nudity is my other option.
Ah yes the French made me do that too (though we did have a gown thingy) even though I had my vaccination pass and all documentation. But as Switzerlands not in the EU I guess that was their way of disapproval.
I have to get the chest x-rays too, since I test positive on the skin prick test 🙁 I also had to be on antibiotics for six months the first time I had the skin reaction.
Again – sorry about the confusion! 🙂
You are correct, and sorry for not being more clear!
No worries. We all just wanted to be reassured that you are well.
Good luck on your new job and happy new year!
Ditto this!
Happy new year everyone. I’m wearing Gold Leather which is suitably festive (and boozy) for New Year’s Eve.
Sounds perfect!
Discovered that my card number had been stolen so I’m wearing Kalimantan for its ability to be simultaneously strong, solid and comforting while I prepare to go deal with things at the bank
Bummer! Stay strong…
So sorry. That happened to me to. It’s a pain.
too… ugh
Oh no! Happened to my husband. Bank was pretty good at catching the charges and refunding him. It’s such an unnerving pain in the neck, though. Hope it’s resolved!
Criminals suck!!! Sorry it happened to you…..
SO annoying. I swear we lose at least one credit card number a year. The good news is it doesn’t cost you any money… just the hassle of updating all those auto-pay accounts.
Oh dear hope you can resolve it quickly.
Aargh! I hope it gets sorted out shortly!
I’ve had that happen a few times actually. It’s such a pain in the neck.
That happened to me as well, and my bank was absolutely marvelous. Helpful, reassuring, and quick to issue a new card. If I remember right, they notified me that some questionable purchases had been made. Grit your teeth, stay calm, and have a great new year.
Did that last year…was so much easier than it used to be! Hope it all goes smoothly.
Yeah, the banks & stores have a lot more practice by now.
Those vases are really beautiful!
Happy New Year to all! I’m at work for a partial day today, and wearing Eau de The Vert for the day. It should wear off by evening, which is good because I’m hosting a small gathering, and want to wear something else. Most likely OJ Woman.
Hope your gathering is lovely!
I’m stacking soft, dusty Cuir d’Ange with Poivre Samarcande to give it some bite. I find PS really boring on its own, but it layers well with just about all the other Hermessences.
I always forget that about PS, but it’s true.
SL Un Fille de Berlin today. Warming darkish roses for the last say of the year! Lovely..
2016- Bring it on!
Day … day, not say…
Or last smell…
Had to take my cat to the vet this morning for his annual checkup, so no SOTD yet. I am getting occasional faint whiffs of the Coco soap I used in the shower this morning. It isn’t just like the liquid form, but nice nonetheless. It was a treat for myself during a really rough time last fall and I’m glad I finally opened it.
Coco soap, now that is luxury. Treat yourself! 🙂
It’s luxury and a cheap thrill at the same time. $25, but it will last over a month. I’m getting a good amount of happiness for less than a dollar a day.
Wait, the tough time was last fall, and you just opened it?! Somehow I think you missed the point of treating yourself, Lucy! 🙂
Ha ha. I bought two bars – one Coco and one No.5. I used the No.5 right away because but exercised just a little willpower with the Coco.
Happy New Year’s Eve to everyone and wishing everyone a healthy, easy year! We’re out on Long Island at a hotel with our kitties in tow while some issues with our apt get fixed. This has taken up a frustrating part of my last 2 weeks. Nice to be away from the city, though, and the kitts are tolerating the change-up better than expected(no hissing or growling). Our low key New Years plans will be din din and a movie-wanting to see Anomalisa.
SOTD is from my purse emergency sample stash: Perris Monte Carlo Essence de Patchouli. Cozy and powdery.
Sorry to hear you have to be away from your home, but sounds like you’re making the best of it. Happy new year!
Thanks Dottie! Actually, it feels like a vacation just staying in a hotel, even if it’s only 30 minutes from home. HNY to you too! I’ll be curious about your move to NC since we’ve mused about it (SC, though) ourselves.
I’m sure I’ll miss the city sometimes, but I’m excited about the change!
I’m trying to picture you and hubby with luggage plus 2 cats (and their paraphernalia) traveling to Long Island. No matter how you go there, I’m amused :-). I hope your apartment issues get resolved soon! Happy New Year!
They have more luggage than we do! They were not entirely amused. Thanks and Happy New Year y prosperous año to you, too 🙂
I’m sampling another OJ today, Isfarkand. I get lots of pink pepper with a dash of lime and vetiver. Not my style at all, but I might enjoy it on my husband.
For the NYE dinner party I’m attending this evening, I plan to wear either Coco or Ta’if. Happy New Year!
I recently sampled Isfarkand, and I gotta say, I really quite like it! And Ta’if is soooo swoon-worthy.
The vetiver has come out more now, while the pink pepper slightly faded in the background, making it more appealing. I like it, but not for me.
I’m sampling OJ Orris Noir on my other arm now. This one isn’t for me, either. The incense is quite strong on my skin and that note always turns me off.
No SOTD yet — we’re heading out for a hike with friends. It’s 38 degrees out…. brrrrrr! Already looking forward to coming back home 🙂
And HAPPY NEW YEAR, all!
Hope you are home and bundled up now!
Sounds like a great way to celebrate the end of the year 🙂
Has anyone heard of a perfume website called Parfumaria? I think it is based in Italy. They have a frag I want a bit cheaper than I can buy it here even with shipping added… still hesitant though. The only perfumes that I purchased internationally where directly from the perfumer’s websites.
I’m almost positive that was where I bought Chypre Mousse for the first NST split meet. It worked out well. Clarissa swears by First in Fragrance in Germany so you may want to check that out as well.
Thanks hajusuuri!
Petunia, Parfumaria is based in the Netherlands and I have good experience with them (there is also a European perfume website called Parfumania but I don’t have any experience with them). A very good year everyone!
Thank you Hamamelis! Hope you are well.
I’ve bought from the Dutch based Parfumaria. I was very pleased with their service.
Happy New Year my scented friends! It’s almost 1am here and I’m working until 4, but I am wearing purple sparkly eyeshadow and my New Year’s staple Yvresse to join in as much as I can.
Hope you all have a fabulous NYE no matter what you’re doing.
So funny how your night is ending and my day is only just beginning (aka I’m in California). Happy New Year!
Thanks for helping to keep the revelers safe! Happy New Year to you!
Happy New Year! Tonight will be the first time both kiddos stay up till midnight so I am trying to think of some fun things to make for a special dinner. So far… Not much is coming to mind that they actually like! Ha!
SOTM is vintage Chanel 19 EDT. Last year, I was completely obsessed with this but now… Not so much. Still, it is lovely. I was inspired by a trip to Lush to make giant lavender and coconut oil bath bombs, so after “testing” those, I will switch to something else. Maybe some old Fendi; I like the idea of wearing something old today and something new tomorrow!
I hope you all have a fabulous evening; I know you will all smell divine!
Yay, enjoy staying up with the kids!
My daughter always liked chocolate fondue – fruit dipped in melted chocolate. Just melt chocolate chips with some milk, and set out berries & cut apples, pears, bananas, etc. We did this at Christmas, and you should have seen the grandson’s eyes light up.
PSA for Le Labo city exclusive fans: included in today’s STC sale are 5ml decants of Gaiac 10 and Vanille 44, each usually $51, today $20. Not affiliated just excited 🙂
What is STC? *she asks softly*
Surrender to Chance
Decant and sampling service.
Oh I apologize, excellent question! Yes: as Karen and Mals say, it’s Surrender to Chance, which offers samples and larger decants of most everything under the sun. It’s awesome if you don’t have access to test something that interests you, or if you’d like to have a bit of something but not a whole bottle. (Like for instance if you’d like $20 worth of Vanille 44, rather than $400 🙂 ) It’s especially great if you’re in the US as domestic shipping is only $3–I can’t speak to how it works out in other countries, I’m afraid.
Today’s sale items can be found under “Weekly Chance Specials” on their website, and if it sounds like it might be your thing, do sign up for their newsletter–they often send discount codes. Hope that helps!
Actually, this is an especially fun question because it makes me think just how many of my bottles are loves discovered through STC samples. En Passant, Musc Ravageur, Costes, Jasmin et Cigarette, Honore des Pres Sexy Angelic, and…a number of L’Artisans I’m not going to name here because I’m getting embarrassed at what this indicates about the excesses of my collection 🙂
So haha yeah maybe be careful with Surrender to Chance, I am a cautionary tale 😉
I love STC!
What an awesome tip! Thanks so much for the info, C.H. I’ll check it out right now!
Totally my pleasure–hope you find some fun things! (…and then come back and tell us all about it 🙂 )
UPDATE: I got both Le Labo’s (Vanille 44 and Gaiac 10) and a few Hermessence samples I’ve been meaning to try – Cuir d’Ange, Vanille Galante, and Santal Massoia. I’ve been a pretty good girl as far as perfume buying goes this year. Ending it with a bang!
Thanks so much for the rec!
Chiming in to upvote STC – I have nothing but good things to say about them.
Chanel No. 18 for this morning. I didn’t really like this one the first few tries, but now I’ve really come around. My sample is almost gone now, boo hoo. I’ll have to track down a decant.
I’m very excited that the Voyage I’d ordered finally moved and should get delivered today! Too bad I had it sent to the office and I won’t be there until next Tuesday. The anticipation is killing me.
I love the anticipation of the perfume delivery. Hope the Voyage arrives soon.
Far from the maddening crowds today, going to try a variety of samples. Dame Desert Rose has been making a very shy start of it, while Oliver Durban Heliotrope is smoky and assured.
Multiple sample day for me, too, as I lounge on the couch. 🙂
It’s Lyric day (for me and Petunia)!
You smell great leathermoutain!
About to do a bit of yoga after having not done so in far too long(!), so I’m currently scentless. But I plan to reach for something appropriately warm and cozy later in the day to complement the cooler temps outside (cool for SoCal, anyway!). Maybe Vanille Absolument or Dzing!
Wishing you all a sweet and happy new year! 🙂
Nice options there. Happy new year!
My husband and I walked into town and had a nice lunch, and now I’m just about to get ready for my yoga too 🙂
I’m setting off for Wegmans in my favorite flannel shirt and SOTD Diva. I often enjoy mismatches, and this one is both celebratory and grounded. Vive 2016 and Happy New Year to all! ????
Enjoy!
Commando so far, as I’m still in jammies and a blanket, fighting off what I suspect will turn into the cold that’s going around. Bleah. But missionista’s mention of OJ Woman sounds nice – maybe I’ll use it to find out if I can smell anything. 🙂
Ugh, hope it is short-lived.
Teh Hubs just landed in Auckland with his group of International Study students! Hope his trip goes well. He asked me what I’d like him to bring me for my birthday, either from Duty Free or anywhere else, but I’ve got that bottle of Ostara waiting to be wrapped so I couldn’t think of anything. I’ve got two weeks to come up with ideas if I can, though.
SOTD is RL Safari. I don’t think there’s a season I can’t wear this in.
Musk candy!!!
(see comments here:)

Happiest and most blessed of New Years to you all! Mine has dawned slightly stormy– and that had better not be an omen of times to come!– and we’re both short of sleep because the city went crazy last night. For hours and hours. Did those happy shrieking young people not realise that I Wanted To Sleep? Oh, how old and staid I am. And grumpy! No matter: fun lies ahead. I am about to go to my niece’s house, there to celebrate the 14th birthday of my great niece, who is totally girly, made up of sweet and wicked in equal proportions. After a lot of wondering, I’m giving her a bottle of Noa, which hope will be feminine enough for her disposition but so lacking skank that even her protective daddy and big brothers (literally “big”–they go on forever, like mountains) could not get worried. We’ll all talk in about five conversations at once and eat far too much and could there be a better way to begin 2016? Be safe and well,NST.
Noa is a wonderful choice for her. Perfect really. It’s a lovely perfume. Pretty, not too strong, not dirty yet not too clean, and not a fruity mess. I’ve always wanted a bottle but never had one. I think she’ll love it.
Our new year has yet to come. Trying to figure out what to make for supper since our party we were supposed to go to is cancelled last minute. I wish you all the best in the New Year Waterdragon. I always enjoy your comments. Have fun at the party!
Wearing Vanille 44 today. I went into Starbucks this morning and the barista commented on it–“I just have to tell you–you smell amazing.” 🙂
How sweet, that’s the best compliment!
She’s right, you do 😉
Nice! And you do, of course.
Happy New Year Everyone!
This morning’s were lightish considering the party we’re going to later. We visited Caixa Forum with its interesting architecture, vertical garden and women in art exhibit. We also toured highlights of the Prado Museum with a fabulous guide; too bad the museum closed at 2PM. It meant that I was able to meander around and I checked out perfume places – nothing special — a Sephora, a pharmacy that sold its own numbered fragrances (no test strips – ugh), a tiny women’s fashion boutique that carried its own line of candles, perfumes and home sprays (I didn’t get the name of the store as it did not wow me), Jutego (Sephora-like) and Perfumerias Padilla (like the mall stores/kiosks that sell a mishmash of perfumes). At Sephora, I saw YSL Body Kouros and asked for a sample. The SA was very gracious and handed me a 1.5 mL vial (the kind with a lip so the opening was tinier than the typical vials) and told me to fill it myself because the last time he did it, the perfume went all over his hands and it took days to wash it off. Anyway, I asked for some tissues, aimed the nozzle and voila, just a little spray outside of the vial and the rest landed in the vial – the SA was quite impressed.
SOTD = Chanel No. 19
SOTE will be Aftelier Bergamoss EDP. Last night, my 5 sprays of No. 5 EDT (from a twist up travel spray) lasted less than an hour!
My No.5 EDT has the same issue. Gone in 60 minutes! I thought it was just me.
Ha, even the Sephora SAs are afraid of Kouros 😉
Perfumista skills honed by practice!
Happy new Year…what a great sunny morning here. Within an hour of waking I broke one of my half hearted resolutions: not to blind buy perfume in 2016… Just ordered Ostara. I have therefore decided that NY resolutions don’t kick in until noon. It is my son’s 14th birthday today. He was born in Germany at 9 seconds past midnight…the first Wurzburg baby of 2002 . I have a terrible scent memory of labour. There was a midwife who must have been a chain smoker who tried to hide the fact by chewing mint gum… Her breath was smoky, sickly sweet mint and she kept talking at me….atomlos (something about breathlessness). It was so cold that the windows cracked in the night. In the courtyard was a Christmas tree with footsteps in the snow leading to and away from it like spokes on a wheel. My first post birth hospital meal was a boiled ham hock with gherkins…another scent memory.
Aha! Resolutions are simply temptations to transgressions…enjoy, just enjoy! Have a wonderful year, Kanuka.
You too! I was keeping in mind your post about adopting the word ‘enjoy’ as a touchstone for the year and decided that mine should be ‘open’, as in open to new ideas and adventures…turns out I’m not that open to resolutions, though.
I think I want to adopt that as my mantra for 2016 – being an anxious sort I would like to learn to just relax and enjoy life.
I don’t think resolutions kick in until February!
Yeah – February 30!
Happy New Year everyone! Well, we were supposed to be going out early tonight but we just got the call from Hubband’s brother that it’s cancelled. It seems that my sister-in-law’s grandmother is actively dying. She had been sick before Christmas but bounced back. This time they think that it’s the beginning of the end. So no New Year’s party at their house tonight. I’m okay with a quiet evening at home but I hadn’t planned on making supper so now I’m trying to figure out plan B. do I go back to the grocery store for something to cook or do we just grab a quick bite somewhere?
I have no perfume on yet and now that our plans have changed I’m not sure what to ring in the New Year with. I’ll be fast asleep long before midnight anyway. I’m thinking it might be a Rubj kind of evening.
Oh, so sorry to hear that. Hope you have a lovely quiet evening.
Happy New year 2016everyone! I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather today, and in my pyjama’s now at 7.30pm, just put the little ones to bed, and can’t see myself staying up much longer. Still, i’m really looking forward to watching the fourth instalment of Dickensian on BBC1 later, it’s a fantastic drama, so much better than the watery pastiche i thought it would be.
Wearing Epic again, it seems to be slowly growing on me, especially when i can smell the rose in it, which comes and goes. We have a long time to become better aquainted, as i received the gorgeous green 100ml bottle for christmas. I can’t believe the lasting power and silage are so poor on me tho, as Jubilation 25 lasts all day.
Hope you are feeling better tomorrow!
I got a wonderful trove of samples yesterday from an NST pen pal so I’m trying Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendre. Wowee. This may be up with Mythique and Le Labo Iris in my book. Smoky and oily and weird. I think I love it, though I just dabbed a tiny bit on.
Don’t know what I will wear for luck in the new year. My guess is something green, like the Southern US tradition of having greens on Jan 1 for wealth and luck in the new year.
Also, officially one-crutching it all over town, which is painful, but feels like progress after a month of two.
I really need to get my hands on the IC! Everyone loves it.
Whoa! One crutch! Happy you are progressing so rapidly. Hopefully the new year will see you at maximum functionality with all appendages operational 🙂
Thank you! It does, finally, feel like progress. Happy New Year!!
As opposed to the tradition (Scandanavian?) of eating creamed herring. Clearly my husband is desperate for prosperity. Me, not so much.
No skiing for me today after spending last night into the wee hours at the animal ER with my dog. Preliminary diagnosis is gastroenteritis, but if he isn’t feeling better by this evening an ultrasound is the next step. I have that disoriented, vaguely nauseated feeling that comes with too little sleep but I need to keep an eye on the poor boy, he looks worse than I feel. I’m wearing a tiny bit of Black Cashmere.
Ohhhh, so sorry for doggy and you. I hope 2016 sets you both on a better path.
Sorry to hear your pup is under the weather. It sometimes takes a few days to get back on track with that. Rest and bland diet. Hope he feels better soon.
T-Rex and I are sending best wishes to your pup! Hope you are able to catch up on sleep as well 🙂
So sorry to hear this – did they give you some metrodinazole for him? That often helps. Sending healing vibes for your boy.
I’m wearing Bombay Bling today and tonight. Not that I am going anywhere but I wearing it anyway.
Late but heartfelt Happy New Year wishes to all!
Cheers! Stay safe, happy, and healthy as Dame Fortuna turns the Wheel of Time….
Deva, T-Rex is just adorable! She looks smart and alert– if she had thumbs, she’d be building rockets or something, I’m sure!
Thanks! I’m a little disappointed she didn’t come equipped with an off switch, but no one’s perfect…????
Hope your New Year’s celebration was joyous!
I just got back from having my car’s window fixed. I had to get the window motor replaced. Oh, for the days of the crank car window. While I was waiting for my appointment I popped into T. J. Maxx to look at purses and of course, their fragrances. They have a better choice than either of their sister stores, Ross and Marshall’s. I picked up an Omnia Coral, but I may take it back, because I can get it online cheaper. Anyway, the gist of all this is that by coincidence they had one bottle of Fan di Fendi which is my SOTD, and of which I had just purchased a mini, which I had received last week. My mini cost more, which is just irritating.
Yes, that always is just irritating !!
I’m wearing Les Nereides Opoponax, which is nice for the cold New Year’s Eve we’re having. Happy New Year to everyone!
Happy new year to my fellow NST’ers! I put on some Feminité du Bois but it’s all burned off, I am going to switch to Fate for this evening after I get through a massive pile of dishes.
Commando again with the cough & cold. Just wanted to thank all my NST friends not only for their insights but letting me live vicariously through your SsOTD (& E). Happy New Year to all.
I feel your pain – hope it gets better soon!
Happy new year ☺ Champagne, turkey, family, friends and fireworks. And smelled of Portrait of a Lady. Have a wonderful 2016 all you wonderfully fragrant people ????
