Monday scent of the day 12/28

Posted by Robin on 28 December 2015 94 Comments

Chanel silk crepe lace ups

The last Monday of 2015! And it's also our special Monday community project: wear one of your own "Best of 2015" fragrances.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm in Chanel Misia.

Reminder: this Friday, 1/1, we're celebrating the New Year...wear the perfume that will bring you luck, health and prosperity in 2016.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance (yes, I know I'm way behind at the moment but I'll catch up this week).

Note: the Chanel silk crepe lace ups are $800.

Today’s challenge is no problem since I probably would have worn Iris Cendre anyway. Looking forward to reading all the “best of” lists this week but making myself save them for the long trip tomorrow.

My best of 2015 is Fève Délicieuse but since it is the first day this year it is cold enough to wear my beloved Rundholz 1968, I am wearing that. Will wear FD as my SOTE tonight.

Feve Delicieuse is my choice, too! Wearing it now in the sleet and snow. I think it’s the only 2015 perfume I bought (actually a 20 ml split).

    We’re scent twins, Robin!
It sure is nice to have a full bottle of Misia now. I’ve owned decants ever since it came out. I’d nurse them along, trying to make them last. Now I can spray with abandon!

Yaaaay Misia! Scentless so far, but I’ll be covered in Hermessences later- I’m going to try to see the Irving Penn exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art today, and the new Hermes boutique is only a few blocks away!

It ought to be Au Dela, but my sample has run dry and my FB has not yet arrived, so I’m sampling SSS Incense Pure. Sadly, thus far nothing I’ve tried from SSS has worked for me–there seems to me something sweet / ambery in the base of that ones I’ve tried that goes all out of whack on my skin.

To clarify: Au Dela was originally released in 2013, so it’s new-to-me in 2015. (Though it did go out of stock for a while and returned in 2015.) My new-to-everyone in 2015 favorite is DSH The Voices of Trees.

I completely forgot about today’s community project and I’m wearing an old favourite in stead. Goutal’s Sables.
My favourite of 2015 has to be Ambre Cashmere Intense, although if I would include “first discovered in 2015” I would probably have chosen Amouage Beloved.

I spent most of the weekend down with a migraine that translated into a bad cold, so I’ve worn no perfume at all since Wednesday.

I have to work today, so I decided if I’m well enough to work, I’m well enough for perfume. I chose Gris Clair. It’s my first wearing of it, and I adore it. I’m a big fan of lavender anyway, and smelling it in a perfume like this, or Jicky, where it smells like itself, but so different, is a real treat.

Sniff away! I’m doing it too.

Lavender is such a distinctive scent that it fascinates me to smell it changed so much, yet still so recognizable. It’s like olfactory poetry.

Bought a butt load of vintage this year but nothing that was released this year. Wearing Cuir de Russie pre-shower but haven’t figured out what I will be wearing after my shower. I’m just enjoying a day off. A day I don’t have to be anywhere or do anything. One of my friends is stopping by before he goes volunteering so we can exchange gifts. We agreed on gift cards. Maybe I should wear Sarrasins today since I haven’t worn it in ages.

What year did you get your Cuir de Russie? I have a sample from a few years back that I love, but I’ve heard rumblings of a bad reformulation so I’ve been scared to get a FB.

I got it in either 2006 or 2007. I think that’s when they might have rereleased it. Back in the day when it only came in the 6.8 ounce bottle. I haven’t tried the latest formulation of Cuir Dr Russie so I can’t comment. If you live near an actual Chanel boutique, you can try it and report back.

This was the year of discovering perfume for me, although over the decades I’d bought a bottle now and then. It’s very hard to pick a favorite from all of those I’ve sampled, but I relied a lot on Orange Sanguine, Knowing, and Reminiscence’s Patchouli. None of those were new to 2015, just to me.

Went looking for Ray of Light, settled for XIX March, and regret it. Ray of Light (April Aromatics) was new to me in 2015 and is something I go looking for periodically, so it would have suited the project. Also I wanted something wakeful, which XIX March (Tiziana Terenzi) is but not in the pleasant way.

Just remembered today’s theme, and applied Eric Buterbaugh’s Regal Tuberose in commemoration. This might be the winner of my best discovery in 2015, although it has encountered some last minute stiff competition from 3 new ones from DSH that were released just in the last few weeks, and are all simply gorgeous: Noel Enchante, Fou d’Opium, and Albino.

I’m in Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom, which was given to me for Christmas by Mr. Lucy. I appreciated this one at the time it was released, it was edgier than most JMs. It didn’t seem like something I needed for my collection though. But Mr. Lucy bought the big bottle (!) and I’m glad he did. Not only does it smell better to me in a full spray rather than the tester, it needs to be applied lavishly. Best of 2015? No. Best of JM in awhile? Arguably. Deeply appreciated gift from a husband who thinks I have too much perfume but bought it anyway because he loves me? You bet. This is going to be in regular rotation for months to come.

I tried to love this when it first came out, but no such lock. Maybe it was because I didn’t apply it lavishly like you suggested. One of my main complaints was that it didn’t last anytime on me. Maybe a heavier hand, on my part, is what is needed.

I think either word works. :) Luck or lock, if it’s not there, I’m not buying. It really does smell different out of the big bottle than the tester.

A heavy hand helps but I think you’ll still need to reapply throughout the day. I put on about 10 sprays before going out last night. I got little whiffs here and there for hours, but by the time I got home it was barely detectable. I have received more compliments on this scent in four days than all other scents I own combined though. I will probably make a decant for my purse.

I forgot the theme today as I was in a hurry to get my cat to his annual check-up. He was not a happy kitty. He’s fine though, only he’s gained 3/4 of a pound. He’s up to 13 and 3/4 lbs. Anyway since I was in a hurry I grabbed one of Dame Perfumery’s scents, Mate, Heliotrope & Patchouli.

As an aside, thank you so much everyone for your weekend poll comments about xmas and holiday gifts, self gifts etc. I was working all weekend and didn’t get over to this site till today. Now I have many more ideas of things to try!
We did a simple Christmas with very few gifts this year, but hubby still got me an adorable kitten incense burner and a drawer sachet from Shoyeido. The smoke comes out of the kitten’s ears. So adorable! And I took advantage of the STC 20% off sale and gifted myself with 8ml decants of Santal Carmin and Parfum Sacre. If it gets here in time, I’m thinking of making Santal Carmin the perfume I wear in India for this trip (leaving on Friday).

I found two scents in 2015 that impressed me–Kerosene Unforsaken and Hiram Green Voyage. I also tried a few that either didn’t wow me or were awful on me–Pichola, Feve Delicieuse, Nanban, Iris Cendre, Iris d’Vanille, and Lavs. There were others I tried but they were so foregttable I can’t even recall their names. Today I’m wearing Voyage.

When I first saw today’s picture, I thought it was a cute little cake decorated to look like a sneaker. Cute!
Seeing that it is an actual shoe for $800, no longer so cute.

Today I’ll go with my personal scent of 2015 (tho I think it was released last year)…Hiram Green Shangri La. Most worn, most loved, this just “works” on me.

Still impatiently waiting for Voyage to arrive. Tracking says it left the Netherlands on December 11th, but no update since then. I really hope it makes it, I don’t know how much longer to wait before panicking.

Favorite scent of the year for me is Mohur Extrait! Every time I put it on I have the “How does anything smell this good?” reaction. Just delightful. I had thought of wearing Gucci Guilty, which I wore the heck out of in 2015 and was undoubtedly my best buy (I like that they did a purse travel spray). Or my beloved bottle of Hedonist, picked up from someone liquidating some of her perfume collection. But because I’m a rebel and I’ll never ever be any good, and I only manage to do maybe 1 out of 20 of the community challenges, I put on Slumberhouse Kiste this morning to celebrate my vacation and I’m loving it. It’s everything I want from Slumberhouse: that hit of nature in the touch of hay and honey. So, a big F for assignment but a big A for happiness! :-)

Currently re-testing Aedes Palissandre d’Or, prompted by the Best Of list. I know I tried it before but somehow didn’t make any notes. At the moment, I’m liking it but not loving it.

Heaven knows I bought plenty of perfume this year, but investigation showed that little of it was from 2015. New releases I did quite like were NV Pichola, Tauerville’s Amber and Incense Flash(es), and Arquiste Nanban.

Here’s to more happy sniffing in 2016!

I am wearing Beige by Chanel. Absolutely love it. I debated on 31 Rue since I bought that for myself this year too, but for some reason decided on Beige. It may be because we are expecting more snow in the Midwest and Beige is a happy scent to me. I wanted to forget about gloomy and cold weather.

SOTD: See by Chloe. It’s my 1st Scentbird order, and it’s OK but not going on any wishlists. :)

The sweet apple blossom notes appear on my daughter’s skin, but the more masculine notes are prominent on mine. Fascinating!

I didn’t buy very much (I had more of a swap/split year, overall) and what I did get wasn’t from 2015.
So I’m wearing one of my favourite sale purchases of the year, a decant of Fifi Chachnil.

On my way back to real life after a lovely vacation. I didn’t bring with me a scent that suits today’s theme, and started out wearing Mohur. Of course, I encountered a duty free store, so tried on some Shalimar Parfum Initial, Idylle, Insolence, and Kenzo Flower L’Elixer (I think). I got a bottle of the Shalimar PI (this quarter’s been rough for my wallet) and some new red lipstick. It’s a little needed glamor for a delayed flight home.

I’m wearing bvlgari au The Bleue today. I bought it back in November I’m not a huge lavender fan, but this one won me over. Very pretty and calming

The only thing I have that was released this year is a sample of Diptyque IE Jasmin which didn’t fit my mood or the cold weather today. Chose new-to-me Chopard Casmir which feels quite cozy today.

Since I slowed my acquisitions this year and insisted on FBs of absolute “loves,” I don’t really have any 2015s. Barely even sampled any.

Wearing a sample of Botega Venetta and like it very much. I’m generally hesitant to try mainstreams (due to sensitivities) but this is shaping up to be a FB.

This morning I started out with Tauerville Vanilla Flash, then eased into some Hermes Cuir de Ange thanks to a dear, sweet friend before settling down with some Dame Perfumery Musk oil. While not all of these are new for 2015, they were new to me so that counts. I’ll probably splash on some Pear, Waterlily and Amber shortly since it layers nicely with the musk oil and I need a bit of perkiness to get through end of the day chores, which is another Dame I just love. He’s really hit it out of the park this year as for must buys on my list and there are still several I’ve yet to try. If I want to go for broke, I may wear some JHAG Romantina to bed as it’s another favorite I fell hard for this year, and is a surprisingly sultry bedtime scent even if it’s just the cats and I settling in for a good book and a snuggle. ;)

    SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP

This is my No.1 for 2015. It is not new but was new to me as of March 2015. I’ve boarded my flight to Madrid and the last few passengers arw getting on. The heavy set guy next to me is taking up a bit of my shouder space but I shall reckaim it shortly by politely nudging him and if he doesn’t get the message, J will be annoying him by getting up several times during the flight while he’a relaxed.

This was one of my “new” scents this year, too! A lovely choice!
      (Sorry about the space-stealing companion!)

Ugh. The reality of traveling is so less glamorous than it sounds.

Spray yourself with No. 19 and “accidentally” get him too. That’ll move him over.

Not a new one for me by any means but I bought a new bottle of the EDP for myself for Christmas. Glad you like it! We need plenty of No 19 wearers to keep in on the market.

I wore Hiris earlier in the day – a discovery for me in 2015 – and late this afternoon passed through the shops and spritzed Armani Si EDT. The EDT was just released this year I think. It’s too sweet and rather generic but … I do kinda like it … a bit … *trails off into the naughty perfumista corner*
