Our annual series of holiday gift posts continues with scented bath & body products. Still to come: cheap thrills, followed by luxury.
From Oriza L Legrand, bar soap trios ("L. Legrand soaps, enriched with organic Shea butter, won their universal reputation for their soothing qualities and absolute purity. Heralded in the first issue of Art and Fashion (circa 1890); the soaps from Oriza L. Legrand are so delicate you cannot be afraid to use them on the face.") in two fragrances, Verveine de Vénus and Mimosa Doré. Three 125g bars for $39.50 at Twisted Lily.
From Santa Maria Novella, scented talcum powders: "This wonderful old world talc is the perfect body powder, keeping skin fresh and dry. Lightly scented so as not to interfere with cologne." In Vetiver, Mint, Melograno, Rose, Gardenia or Iris, 300g for $45 at Aedes.
From Elizabeth and James, dry shampoos in Nirvana Black and Nirvana White. At Sephora, in 2 sizes, $14 / $28 each.
From Leona, a "make your own body butter kit", including fair trade & organic shea butter, organic unrefined coconut oil, organic jojoba oil, a body butter container and step-by-step directions. This kit includes lavender essential oil, but presumably you could scent the body butter howsoever you like? $40 at Nordstrom.
From Byredo, Hair Perfumes ("Enjoy the uplifting power of long lasting scents as they subtly diffuse throughout the day, amplified by the natural movement of the hair. Each hair perfume combines one of BYREDO’s signature scents with a unique silicone and polymer formula to create a light, invisible veil designed to leave the hair nourished and luminous whilst divinely scented.") in the brand's Blanche, Bal d'Afrique and Gypsy Water fragrances. 75 ml each, $62 at Luckyscent.
From Claus Porto, Madrigal (Water Lily) Body Moisturizer: "This ultra rich blend of sweet almond, olive, jojoba and soy oils is further enhanced with lecithin and shea butter to improve skin softness and flexibility, detoxify, and retain moisture." On markdown at Beautyhabit, $27.20 for 400 ml.
From Le Couvent des Minimes, Fresh Moisturizing Body Gel-Cream, in the rose & baies scent, Eau du Cloître. $18 for 200 ml at b-glowing.
From Lush, the Rose Jam Bubbleroon: "Inspired by delicious, handmade macarons, our Rose Jam Bubbleroon features our intoxicating rose perfume. It's based on a decadent traditional Turkish recipe for rose jam that our Turkish rose absolute supplier shares with us every year. Rose oil and rose absolute not only smell amazing but they're also fantastic for soothing dry, sensitive skin. The rosy fragrance paired with the reamy icing that sticks the two halves of this bubbleroon together make for a majorly moisturizing, softening and luxurious soak." $8.95 at Lush USA.
This comes as a timely post as I try to decide on a Christmas gift for my mother. I’m at a stalemate between two bath oils: Jo Malone Red Roses and Ren Rose Otto. Anyone tried either of these?
Both are nice – JM might last longer scent-wise, if that helps.
Thanks for the reply. How many baths do you reckon you get out of each? The Jo Malone comes in a much bigger bottle but I was wondering if the Ren formula might be a little more concentrated.
I haven’t tried the Jo Malone but I use the REN. It isn’t intended to be a scent product, and it isn’t. You can smell the rose when you first put it on, but it fades. It works very well as a body moisturizer, I must say. If you’re looking for the scent, I’d try the Jo Malone.
I agree with Annie A. All of their body oils are long-lasting.
Just opened a bar of Oriza’s Jasmine d’Espagne earlier this week (obtained at LuckyScent some time ago). It’s very nice, might have to try Mimosa Dore too.
Ah, that sounds tempting!
I have gotten a little obsessed with South of France soaps….the sweet almond is just heaven. When I can get them on sale for less than $4.00, I always treat myself. Plus, the packaging is nice enough to give as teacher gifts, etc…..
And I am stuck on the Nesti Dante soaps, which might make it into the next post. Which are your favorite fragrances from South of France? Those are much more reasonably priced.
Sweet almond and Orange Blossom are so beautiful….Rose is a bit much for me, but others will love it too! I also splurge on the matching pump hand soap for MY sink, from time to time…LOL 🙂
Great, thank you!
…..and….LOL…..just got home from Sprouts Farmers market, where they had a display of seasonal South of France goodies. Oh my goodness. Had to pick up a bar of “Simmering Orange Cloves”. Beautiful. Also saw vanilla caramel brulee and evergreen! 🙂
I saw the Byredo shower gel at Aedes but since I don’t have a favorite Byredo, so I didn’t bother smelling them.
In case anyone is interested, I wrote mini reviews of shower gels matching some of my favorite perfumes on Undina’s blog 😉
So interested! Thank you for mentioning, will check it out immediately! 🙂
Yay! Thanks!
Me too!
🙂
I will have to live with my Rose Jam since I cannot afford the Carnal Flower! Nice reviews.
Yes, but isn’t it great that Rose Jam came second ONLY to Malle?! I’m trying to work out how many bottles I would need to last me a whole year… (Of Lush, that is 🙂 )
In reality, Rose Jam, Iris 39 and Chanel No.19 could switch places throughout the year!
You have been very restrained all year…you’ve probably spent less all year on perfume and perfume related items than what I spend in a week in the cafeteria!
I ended up buying the Eau de Magnolia shower gel as I wanted to get Frederic Malle’s signature when he was at Barneys last Friday
I guess I have, but I’ve just spent that money on other consumer goods — I certainly don’t have any more “leftover” money than usual!
Hope Mr. Malle was gracious.
Oh good! I’ve been looking forward to reading your reviews since you mentioned you this.
Really been eyeing those Byredo Hair Perfumes. Haven’t heard anything about them (good or bad reviews), so I may go ahead and bite the bullet and give them a try.
I just spray regular perfume in my hair when I feel like it 🙂
I’ve got to remember to do this! I like it a lot, just never think of it…
I love that they’re adding to the Rose Jan collection of products! More Rose Jam! Now to find me a tub.
I do adore Rose Jam…I need another bottle.
