If you have a free moment, do tell us what fragrance you're wearing today.
I'm wearing The Different Company Sel de Vetiver.
Reminder: this Friday, 18 September, will be H2O Friday: wear a fragrance with a marine / aquatic / water note, or wear a fragrance that reminds you of the sea (or some other body of water) in some other way.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Today I’m wearing Field Notes from Paris for the first time. Huge thanks to whoever it was who assured me that this perfume wasn’t as synthetic-smelling as I find some of the other Inekes. I’m very much enjoying it so far. I reminds me of something (or someplace) I can’t recall right now, which is just giving me an excuse to keep sniffing my wrists.
Far and away my favorite Ineke!
Mine too! Far and away the best of the collection.
I’ve tried a few others, and while I could see the kinship between them, Field Notes seems totally unrelated. That’s definitely a good thing, as they others don’t really work for me at all.
The others are not generally “perfumista bait” IMHO — it’s like they’re geared towards a mainstream audience even though they’re sold in niche boutiques.
That’s a pretty one.
SOTD is Un Bois Vanille (Serge Lutens).
Un Bois Vanille is my staple for cold weather and layering! I find that one or two sprays of this add some creamy, vanillic gourmand element to themes like woody, earthy, or roses very well.
What do you layer with?
I had a bottle of this and finished it some years back.
I use to layer it with the Fleurs orange one –
Oh that one! Good idea!
So far…with one spray of Portrait of A Lady, or three sprays of Sycomore, or Prima del Teatro (Carthusia’s)
Hi, Nick. Hope you see this. I enquired after Imortelle de Corse, and discovered that yes, they did have some bottles at the L’Occitane store in Newmarket, but that they did not send perfume overseas. Sorry to offer such frustrating news. Can I do anything further?
Ohh…no no. It was really nice of you to go all the way to ask.
Now… it’s high time I visit Auckland! Been 15 years!
Such an amazing scent — the most accessible of all the Lutens oeuvre but still out of the mainstream. You smell great!
In the mood for something sweet- Love by Killian
Later dinner & debates on TV and will switch it up to Shalimar- but just a dab and not a spray. I want people to smell the food
I always find it difficult to switch later during the same day with long-lasting fragrances. They always stay unless I shower.
That could be true for me today- especially with the Killian line- I feel
Like they have a lot of longevity on the skin.
Maybe I will just show up to dinner smelling like dessert
Pralines!
At least, on skin they would slowly evaporate because of our body temperature, but on fabric…let’s just say, I have acquired the habit of sniffing my shirt collar after a day’s wearing 😉
Love is probably my favourite gourmand. It’s just so pretty and I love how it still smells of orange blossom without just being a sugary dessert.
Coromandel.
Citric blast. A hint of neroli. Then, camphorous, dirty patchouli subdued by incense. Later, dry benzoin radiates its glowing warmth on a dust of sweet powdery vanilla. A mysterious concoction 😉
That is a great concoction.
My head is swimming 😉
lol Sniffing does that to you. Each time I sniff something, I always have to make a note of the things that it conjures.
Coromandel is definitely Chanel’s boldest fragrance! I’d like to see something similar to Coromandel but without the chocolate accord.
Hmm I didn’t smell the white chocolate accord. I might have to try it again.
I love Coromandel- it’s a sweater scent – the sort of scent that lingers on woolens…
Yep, spray on fabric and the incense just keeps burning 🙂
That is some good stuff!!
I love Coromandel – may have to pop for the FB…
Gucci No 1, from my STC Guy Robert sampler set. Uber chic. Anyone knows if this is still available? (I’d bet it isn’t!)
The guy is a genious, as soon as I get home I’ll be looking for my Gold decant.
What a fun sampler set! It is discontinued but no idea how easy/hard it is to find.
Had not noticed that they have sample sets by perfumer – what a great idea!
So educational, how can one feel guilty? 😉
I think that means it’s actually for the children.
Yes, that’s the point!
Original Prada Amber, after reading Bois de Jasmin’s Noir Exquis review this morning. One of my first perfume loves- that chocolately patchouli is just as alluring as always!
I liked your Blazing Saddles reference the other day 🙂
Ha! I mourn that the original Prada Amber does not get enough love from my fellow perfume travelers… I almost chose it myself this AM! It is a scent I really enjoy when the weather cools and fall in the air.
I used to wear this – it’s making me think between the Prada and the Coromandel post above, it’s going to be a chocolately patchouli day! I like the Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights for a lighter take on both of these.
Love FN! It’s so easy, and sort of round and snuggly.
I just put on Lumiere Noire pour Femme. I feel the need, the need for chypres.
Five thumbs up. 🙂
Was hoping you’d notice! 🙂
You smell lovely!
Interesting, I like chypres best in both fall and spring. Something about the transitional weather.
Oh same here, all the way! Especially rose chypres in fall, and green chypres in spring.
Adding to my list…
Cartier La Panthère. Just reread your review of it. I actually prefer it to Baiser Volé, although I like that one a lot too.
I love both of those too, but I bought a bottle of La Panthere.
That bottle!
Definitely a deciding factor 😉
It definitely found fans! Would love to know which one sold more.
My guess would be BV. It seems more accessible if that makes sense. The extraits of both are gorgeous too, but so far I’m very happy with my EDP.
Last night after speaking with my elderly aunt (89 years) I remembered that years ago she had given me 2 bottles of her perfume. At the time, I wrapped them up and tucked them away so I wouldn’t ruin them. I untucked them last night, and saw she had given me a bottle of Cabochard and F de Fragonard. I looked up the Cabochard and it appears to be from somewhere in the 1970’s. I couldn’t find anything on the Fragonard though. Does anyone know about this fragrance? My aunt is very special to me. She is the person who brought perfume into my life.
I don’t know anything about the Fragonard, sorry, but she sounds like a wonderful person, and vintage Cabochard is awesome. I have a small decant and I feel like a dame, as in broad, when I wear it.
She really is a wonderful person. I tried the Cabochard and was surprised how much I liked it. I am glad I had put it away, because I would not have appreciated it all those years ago.
My SOTD is Pink Molecule by Zarko Perfume. It smells like an elderflower beverage with apricots. It is light, but it lasts most of the day on me. Despite the silly name, it is not very sweet.
Hey, that sounds fun!
Sounds very nice! I’m very fond of peach and apricot fragrance notes in late summer/early fall.
I bought the little roller bottle of Rose Flash over the weekend. I have worn it twice now and am sad that I really don’t like it at all. I love rose scents but so far, none of the Tauer scents have worked on me. It has that fun fuzzy aspect that I like very much on paper but on my skin it gets screechy. Even the kids hated it. ???? Oh, well, something for the next swap meet! SOTD is the lovely Coromandel.
Not fuzzy! Fizzy!
Rose Flash is a weird one. I got some in a swap and at first I thought it smelled like beer, but it’s growing on me.
For me, Rose flash is a happy and beautiful perfume that is ruined by tobacco.
I got Rose Flash as a freebie with an order. I’m a rose fan, too, but there’s something about Rose Flash I just don’t “get.” I don’t always even think it smells like rose.
*handshake* Coromandel!
Yes, that will be easy to find takers for!
I found that one way too syrupy sweet for me. Reminds me of Rose Anonyme but more fruity.
Oh man, Rose Anonyme is a nightmare of sour body odor on me. I literally gagged in the middle of the store the first time I smelled it. Never have I been so convinced that skin chemistry matters.
Oh goodness! I thought I was the only one who felt that way, or that my sample was bad!
I can’t take it either.
I thought I was the only one who didn’t really care for them. I have a membership to Olfactiv and the 3 scents for this month was all Tauer scents. I just thought that none of them wowed me! But, I am glad I got the opportunity to sample them. I have heard so many things about his fragrances.
Coromandel is a fantastic fragrance!
I let my Olfactif subscription lapse and have been meaning to sign up again. I am kind of glad I misse this month, then!
Trying Byredo’s Rose of No Man’s Land today and I’m thoroughly impressed. It’s not too long lasting, but that’s par for the course with Byredo fragrances on me. I’m not a huge fan of full roses because they tend to give me a headache, but this one is light enough not to do that. The amber tones it down a bit in the dry down too.
I got my Barney’s order yesterday. I splurged and did the buy $$ worth of products and get a big goody bag of free stuff. I’m justifying that I needed all the stuff I bought just to get the goody bag because it is all stuff that I use and was almost out of. I got the Byredo sample along with several others in the bag freebies. 🙂
Is it something like a take-no-prisoner Rose? My limit of rose is
Une Rose: I cannot wear it, but enjoy the romanticism by sniffing it from paper or ceramic pebbles. Beyond that, I am wary of pure, pure rose.
It’s not that strong. I haven’t tried Une Rose so I can’t compare the two. In general, I’m more of a tea rose fan because it’s a bit lighter. I prefer Diptyque’s L’ombre Dans L’eau’s rose to be honest and the beginning of No Man’s reminded me of that – fleetingly. The rose does amp up a bit, but I find the fragrance doesn’t last long enough to be a take-no-prisoners type. Definitely sample try it if you are unsure. The opening is a little spicy due to pink pepper and a teensy bit fruity from the raspberry blossom. This is mostly a rose/ amber perfume though, but I don’t think it’s very strong.
Rose and tea like which one? That sounds like my thing 🙂
In general, rose with something is acceptable for me. Now if only Diptyque were a little less pricy!
I feel the same way about Une Rose. I love that hit of wine dregs and deep rose, but I can’t wear it either. I just keep the nearly empty vial for the occasional sniff. Ceramic pebbles? I like that idea. Do you spray them with perfume?
Yes, yes. I know what you mean!
‘Le Parfumez-Moi de Chanel’ — as the SA called them. These ceramics are shaped like Chanel’s Gardenia. After I had struck a chord with her, the inspired SA simply gave me when I last passed by the counter. I just sprayed some favourite scent and hang them in my wardrobe. You can rinse them in hot water and re-charge with a new fragrance.
Nice!
Ooh, I am dying to try this one. Byredo is very hit or miss with lasting power on me — Flowerhead is pretty long-lasting, as is Pulp, while Bal d’Afrique must be sprayed liberally and lasts only a couple of hours. I read an interview with Ben Gorham where he said he likes when women are heavily perfumed, and I was confused. Maybe he hasn’t smelled Mojave Ghost?
I will have to track down a sample of No Man’s Land, though, because an amped-up-yet-light rose sounds right up my alley.
I agree about Byredo being hit or miss – in general. Pulp is my arch-nemesis. It smells like BO on me. The fruit does all sorts of wrong on my skin. Mojave Ghost was bottled air and didn’t even last 15 minutes. The ouds were ok and had decent lasting power, but not favorites. So far, No Man’s has been the only one to really make me take a closer look at the line.
Jenkr, I am trying the No Mans’ today from my Barneys’ loot also. It’s lovely right now, but will it last? the only Byredo that has any staying power for me has been seven veils, but not enough to purchase.
It lasted a good while on me. Into the afternoon, but it wasn’t as strong as during the morning hours. The dry down just fades away, which I rather like. I do like No Man’s but like all other Byredo perfumes – I don’t like them enough to purchase.
I have to ask about the goody bag; it looks like there’s some really good stuff in there??
Yes! There was. I got the February one too, but I think I got a LOT more this time around. There was almost 30 items in the bag, I think. Byredo, Atkinsons, Etro, Kai, and one other perfume sample, Hourglass lipstick mini, Queen Lipstick full size lip gloss, Nars blush in color orgasm, La Mer, Kiehls, YSL, Mila, 3 Lab eye cream and face cream minis along with a few others, full sized Rituals foaming wash in rice milk with sakura blossom, Oribe and Devines hair treatments, another body wash, a few face masks, and I think some other items, but I forget now. There was a LOT!
Very Irresistible for Men by Givenchy. If it didn’t have that warm sugared-coffee note from top to bottom it would be a nothingy men’s sport scent, but it’s fantastic.
Interesting how a single element can make or break a scent.
Interesting!
One of my favorites on my husband. I can’t find it anywhere now.
I bought a bottle of Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze that arrived Monday and I’m loving it (finished two samples of it before purchasing). It smells a little like my back yard which is full of apple smell from my neighbor’s trees, also that pleasant dry smell that maple leaves get when they turn color and ripe walnuts that the squirrels drop everywhere. The whole perfume is smoothed over with cream. I don’t get the fig listed but an overall warmth that’s sweet but not too sweet. It lasts forever too, just clings around my neck a bit. Very nice, especially for this time of year.
Oh, that sounds really nice, love your description!
Love your description 🙂
I’m wearing the tail end of last night’s Bohemian Spice from April Aromatics. This part is full on gourmand, all chocolate, vanilla and coffee. The heart was dank almost stony patchouli; I think I mean what others mean when they say patchouli is earthy. The top was a lovely sweet and sour spiced orange accord. I like this very solid perfume.
It sounds wonderful
Mmmmm . . . chocolate, vanilla, coffee, earthy patch and spiced orange . . all notes I love. Sounds wonderful!
After two cold days, supposed to reach 80 later this day. Having allergies to the last gasp of growing things…ragweed, I’m looking at you! So I started off commando. Now that I am at work, with well processed air applied dabs of Séville à l’Aube, from the sample I keep at work. Such an interesting scent! It doesn’t smell like anything else.
Yes to Séville à l’Aube – one of my enduring favorites, too.
Angela’s review Monday inspired me to get a sample of Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme, which is my SOTD. Despite being “noir,” I find it sweet, fun, and energetic, which is giving me a little extra pep today.
Yes, I have been enjoying my sample of this as well. You smell lovely!
Today I’m wearing ‘Chambre Noir’ by Olfactive Studio. Nothing to write home about, I guess, but enough to report on NST. It’s from a sample which I order as I was attracted to the idea of plum and leather – I love plum and always intrigued by leather based perfumes. Their beguiling masculinity.
However, all I get is incense and patchouli, plus a balanced pepper note up front. Not bad but not making a full purchase.
That’s a shame because the plum/leather combo does sound really nice – on paper.
I hadn’t thought of it before you mentioned this, but I do wish someone would do an excellent plum-leather.
Boxeuses!
I second this!
Choosing between my three ambers, (the others being Youth Dew Amber Nude and Prada L’Eau Ambree), I chose Pacifica Spanish Amber. It was the wrong choice. For some reason, all that I’m getting is a persistant black pepper note.
Hate it when I pick the wrong one.
I got some Amouage Memoir Woman on my t-shirt the other day… washed the t-shirt… put it on this morning and BAM the Memoir is still there.
So. Technically I haven’t put any perfume on today, but I smell like Memoir. 🙂
You smell AMAZING.
Well, at least you smell gorgeous! Love Memoir!
Mmm maybe that’s what I need to wear today!
Sort of besides the point, plus, sadly Woman’s Day-ish, but have found adding Borax really helps to remove stubborn perfume. But that might be because we have such hard water.
I love Sel de Vetiver, it’s my favourite TDC and possibly my favourite vetiver, although that could also be Sycomore.
I’m wearing Aerin Lilac Path, as the line is now available in Belgium and I can just walk into a department store and spray myself. The opening is lovely, but then it gets faint and boring 🙁
We agree about Lilac Path as well then.
SOTD is Rose De Grasse by Aerin Lauder. I chose this fragrance today because I have a body cream by Estee Lauder that is extremely rich and moisturizing. It is said that the late, great Estee loved the smell of fresh roses. So, it was added in this cream. The cream smells so much like Rose De Grasse that I just layered them on. It truly brings the scent out more.
I saw on Nordies website there are a bunch of rose scented products coming out that are compliments to Rose de Grasse or to be used on their own I suppose. Tempting for sure…
I just had a very confusing conversation about this in-store there, because the rose body products were on display, but Rose de Grasse was nowhere to be found? (And in fact the SA insisted the ones they had were the only ones in the line.) Would have assumed the body products were being marketed with Rose de Grasse, but maybe the fragrance is still exclusive somewhere else?
Interesting. I will have to check that out.
scentfromabove, what is the name of that body cream, please.
It’s called Estee Lauder’s Luxe Body Crème. It’s fantastic!
Sounds like a winning combination!
I’m being very boring and wearing La Treizieme Heure again. Looks to be my SOTWeek. This time of year – too hot for heavy ambers but the light has changed to fall – seems perfect for scents like this. I’m sure I would appreciate it more if it wasn’t perfect weather for ragweed too.
I’m fighting my late summer hives and sniffles by lurking in the garden at Mom’s with leashed kittens. Their wild mother came up to within three feet of me last evening to sniff one! She is very curious about the strange little cats tied to the big scary monster. Don’t know if she recognized them at all, I would tend to doubt it, but she obviously wants to play with them. Wish I could trust them off the leash.
I may have to follow your lead, while the weather is so perfect for La Treizieme.
It’s quite drippy and humid here and the wet garden smells are the perfect backdrop for the smooth, sweet smokiness of XIII. I’m heading in for a nap (if the squirts will cooperate). My legs are terribly cramped from hours of crouching down, holding the leash out and trying not to startle anyone.
I’m wearing Parfumerie Generale Isparta. Maybe a bit warm for it today. It was a blind decant purchase based on reviews that called it a “less demanding POAL”. It’s a nice deep burgundy jammy oud-ish rosechouli with a slightly musty edge. Not too overwhelming. Nice.
I was gifted a sample of Sel de Vetiver and am eager to try it sometime this week.
Isparata is really gorgeous, and would be perfect on a cool, crisp fall day. There is something elegantly oud-ish about it without being in your face OUD!
Agreed about it being great in sweater weather. Although I ended up indoors most of the day so it never got to be “too much”.
They could have called it Portrait of a Dominatrix. 😉
The Malle? Yes 😀 It’s more masculine and aggressive than Isparta, methinks.
SOTD – kind of a weird mood for some experimentation. Nothing too bold – I layered some Jo Malone Red Roses bath oil with the Pacifica Spanish Amber. It’s a nice combo but about to wear off here by lunch. I might go in search of something in my purgatory pile………………
I’ve been wearing Traversee du Bosphore the past couple of days. One of my all-time favorites! I splurged on a FB after I went to Istanbul.
I’m in Organza Indecence and a pale pink cardigan… the perfume is working, but I feel too fat to carry-off the cardy with any dignity. Preppy is not for the well-padded.
As for other perfume adventures, last night I was rummaging through my little sample-discards box and thought I’d try another shot of Au Delà (Bruno Fazzolari)… It just did not seem to work for me the first couple of times I tried it… NOT “meh”… but more like “eeyyyoooo.” But last night it sang, almost Mitsouko like, perfect pitch… so it is back in the “try more” box, for a comparison with Mitsouko next time I brush that beauty off and give her a whirl. Has anyone else tried Au Delà?
I’ve never tried Au Dela, but I do feel your discomfort about cardigans. I love them, but at the same time, I think they are too boxy for me. Organza Indecence is wonderful stuff though. I’m waiting for the weather to get a bit more cold until I dig that out.
I like Au Dela. It made me think of one of the big 80s or 90s florals streamlined and updated in a way that maintains its character without seeming very retro.
I don’t know if it’s me, fall pollen allergies, changing weather, or the types of aromachemicals in use these days, but I’m finding that many new perfumes smell great to me one day and very light or meh the next, and the reverse.
The Bay was having a perfume coupon special and with points I was able to buy No. 19 EdP for almost half off. It is going to be a nice office scent.
Enjoy it
That’s great.. Where did you find the coupon?
I started the day with very a couple of sparing spritzes of Tauerville’s Incense Flash hoping no one at work would complain about my perfume. However, my awaited LuckyScent package was delivered to my office containing Papillon’s Salome. Of course I had to sample and sprayed only a drop on the inside of my wrist. Wow, it is a keeper! I am looking forward to spraying more liberally when I go home.
Would love to hear your feedback on Salome. It is on my buy list (judging from the notes) and I am waiting for my sample to arrive to confirm the FB 🙂
Brave woman to be spraying this one liberally!
In SJP Lovely today. It smells a lot like Narciso for Her to my nose–same lillies. Appropriate for the weather today, and appropriately non-committal, since I just couldn’t decide on a scent this morning, but it’s still kind of blah. Will finish sample, don’t need to buy.
I like Lovely, but am wearing Narciso for Her today. They smell a lot a like I think, but haven’t seen Lovely in too many stores recently.
Lord & Taylor made me a very generous sample of the new Narciso last night and I think this is full bottle worthy for me. I’m really not much of a musk lover but this is done so well (IMO of course), just the right floral with musk and it lasts which is key for me. And being a marshmallow fluff fan I do love that Robin referred to it (accurately I would say) as “schmear of the gardenia marshmallow fluff on a wood plank” 🙂
That little white square bottle will look lovely on my dresser as well.
Lucky you! I don’t shop there often enough to establish a relationship with an SA.
They *made* you a sample? As in, sprayed it into an empty vial?? Did not know they did that at L&T, and in fact have nearly never managed to get a sample from them.
(and so glad you like the Narciso!)
Chanel no 5 eau premiere for today. Couple of late evenings the last few days, and getting out of bed this morning was hard 🙁
Needed a gentle friend wafting to get the day going. Thank you, Polge!
You smell great! And yes, a gentle fragrance friend is always welcome in a hard to get morning…especially when the blankets are soft and inviting…
Yes – No 5 Eau Premiere is a great helper for a hard day.
I agree!
I’m in MCG Noir Tropical, thanks to the very generous hajusuuri. I have come to the conclusion that this almondy rum floral concoction is office appropriate since it’s so soft, yet vampy enough for the evening, so it has been getting a lot of wear.
🙂 Enjoy it!
In Puredistance M. Testing out the sample set and this one is really nice – totally a worth a travel size (FB is out of my price at this point). It is weird thou – on the part of my skin where it was touching leather jacket, the smell is weird. Other skin parts (leather-free) are fine. V. Bizarre.
Gearing up for a weird day in the office. Boss (and idiot is the most printable definition I use for him – usually I just curse at him in Russian ) has just messed up a whole bunch of things. We are scrambling to fix it, but it might be too late. Fun times
Sorry your boss sucks, but at least you smell great! M is one of my favorites.
Yikes! Good luck! Smelling great is the best revenge. 😉
I’m wearing Amouage Tribute attar today for a trip to the garden center. I’m looking for a good-sized planter to put by the front door. I don’t want a yard full of annuals (too much work each year) but I think I can manage a planter despite having a black thumb.
What an interesting choice for a trip to the garden store!
For some reason I like Amouages better in the open air. It seems to me they need space around them or I start to feel they are wearing me, instead of vice versa.
Nothing is more flower “chic” than a large planter with some very robust red geraniums. They are nearly black-thumb proof! Just give them some boring old “miracle grow” fertilizer every two weeks and you’ll have a show stopping kind of statement of red at your door. I swear by red geraniums every year to dress up my porch. They are the LBD of flowers.
Thanks!
Today was a my annual goal planning meeting for next year. In preparation, I decided to wear Bois des Iles by Chanel, along with an Chanel lipstick (Arthur) and appropriately grown up clothing.
Bois des Iles made me feel VERY confident today. Hopefully this translates into a raise next year!
Ah, Bois des Iles is amazing. And what a great color! Chanel lipsticks are so luxurious, and you smell luxurious to match 🙂
Pre-shower I’ve gone with Ellen Tracy Bronze. Total impulse buy when I passed buy in line and it was 12 bucks. Why not? I’d heard nice things about it, right?
Wrong. I may be a perfume snob. Complete air freshener on me with a very pervasive cloying synthetic sugar note.
I think I’ll have to go with Shangri La post-shower to take me back to my happy place.
I haven’t tried Bronze, but found the original Ellen Tracy simply unbearable.
I did the exact same thing with ET Bronze. So awful. Glad it was only $12.
Glad to know I’m not alone…felt like a grump at my reaction to it.
$12 is no great loss and a cheap reminder to stay away from the blind buy at any price point!
I just wore this one yesterday. On me it’s a soft, light lemony heliotrope with a bit of violet, nothing air-freshener about it. I like to think it’s all about body chemistry rather than being a perfume snob.
Good point, Laila 🙂
Ellen Tracy Bronze does not smell like air freshener to me. I really like the violet, heliotrope, and lemon, but I cannot handle its prominent and persistent oakmoss note. Now, I like lichen 🙂 , but I prefer to look at it, not to smell like it.
Ha! I’m wearing Sel de Vetiver myself today:) It’s a non stop heavy raining day today here in London and I wanted something to take me out of this wet misery, at least mentally.. Actually I was between Sel de Marin and Sel de Vetiver but the latter prevailed!
Cheers everyone!
How is the staying power? I have been noticing that TDC only stays on for 3-4 hours? Has this been your experience as well?
It’s been with me almost all day long dear Clarissa- such a lovely name!- never had any issues with it’s staying power. My skin tends to adore salty notes and holds on to them stubbornly:)
I find it so hard to keep these names straight: Sel Marin, Sel de Vetiver and MH Fleurs de Sel. I’m not sure I’ve tried the TDC, but I like both the Heeley and the Miller Harris versions of this salt water vetiver theme.
I like all three of them but for me, Sel de Vetiver stands out for that brilliant iris note which morphs the whole composition into a gentle evening sea breeze.
Hey, we are triplets 🙂
Long live the Perfume!
I’m wearing ELDO Putain des Palaces today. For some reason last night I got to thinking about how long it’s been since I wore this one, and it’s been pretty neglected, so I’m giving her some attention.
SOTD = Prad Infusion d’Iris Absolue
A no nonsense perfume for a busy day at work!
I never think of that one as “no nonsense” although I’ve seen others call it that, too. Is it the cool carrotty part? I find it more warm and fuzzy. And I love it even though I’ve neglected it all summer.
Cool-headed and composed, maybe?
I wish I could be cool-headed and composed just once, and I wish I could spray it on from a bottle!
This was the first perfume I opted to get thearger size when a smaller size was available.
Cool and composed is a good description!
It gives me back-bone, similar to No.19 EDP. It is rooty-earthy a d not carrotty.
Haven’t decided yet – love coming to these polls for ideas before making a choice. Keeps me out of a rut or from forgetting about perfumes I meant to try or retry.
Exact same–had been commando for a couple days, tired of my summer rotation but unable to think what might appeal more…until mals’s Memoir suggestion totally turned things around for me!
(On the downside, wearing Memoir did make my quick stop in Sephora rather doleful, but, trade-offs 🙂 )
Good morning, all. No SOTD so far, just the (really quite strong) remains of the Alaia body milk that I used last night after my evening shower. I really do like it: it’s not changing my ideas about perfume or giving me a new point of view on a note, but it is pretty and softly assertive. Whereas the perfume offers me a straightforward violet soliflore, the lotion does immediately suggest the dry heat and generic flowers that the promotional blurb talked about. The lotion will be excellent for jeans-and-black-Tee days: undemanding, unproblematic, unexciting, universally acceptable, and it will make the perfume more wearable by moving it up the complexity curve. I don’t think I’m likely to buy a bottle of the perfume, but the lotion is a lovely way to enjoy Alaia.
Oh, goodness. Yes, I see what I just did–once a teacher, always a teacher, even over breakfast ????. I’ll drink my second cup of tea and shut up now.
What a good way to describe Alaia. I do enjoy wearing it, and I did purchase a full bottle (love that bottle!). Maybe its because its unproblematic — a very agreeable fragrance that makes it so easy to spritz and go on about my day.
Guerlain Shalimar today. The weather is beautiful here currently.
Shalimar + Beautiful weather = Life is Good!!
Nice equation for contentment!
Warm and sunny today, a gorgeous day here. I’ve indulged in liberal sprays of Fendi Theorema Leggero edt, one of my favorite late summer/early fall scents. I smell nutmeg-topped peaches amidst a soft, sheer blend of florals and woods. It has the same classic Theorema bottle but the juice is a soft peach color. While the original Theorema is the one most swoon over, I prefer this one. My bottle is almost empty and I will miss it, but, c’est la vie!
SOTD is Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur. This would definitely be a desert island scent for me … Oh my I do love it!
Ok, I’m starting a list of what to pull out for cooler weather 🙂
Hello my fragrant lovelies, today was the second day of wearing my sample of Incense Rose, i love it, gorgeous, would love a full bottle of this. Its faded now, and have sprayed myself liberally with patchouly antique, perfect for a cosy autumn evening, and consoling me in my dissapointment at receiving a bottle of mitsouko edp [which i have & love] instead of l heure bleu, ive only just realised its from the states too, so will cost lots to send back. it was a bargain, but obviously too good to be true! boohoo. This has happened once b4, with ebay, so frustrating!
Sample of the Day is Chanel Beige which smells of Johnson and Johnson’s Baby Shampoo but better. I like it more each time I try it.
I am happily surprised that Nivea is releasing an Eau de Toilette. I love the scent of Nivea creme. I hope the EdT will be available to the US.
Hmm. I guess I have a thing for shampoo and lotion scents.
I am extremely doubtful…pretty sure that last time, the Nivea was only in Germany and a couple other countries, and for a short time. That said, I saw the release this morning on Cosmoty and did not have time to read it.
I wanted to suggest checking out smallflower.com; the online shop for Merz Apothecary (and now Q Brothers) in Chicago. It’s this great European style pharmacy in a traditionally German neighborhood. They carry some great brands, including the European versions of Nivea and now some great niche perfume brands.
Fabulous! Thank you for the tip. 🙂
I will be on the lookout when Nivea edt is released in November.
Something tells me it is not reasonable to make a trip to Germany to visit buy Nivea. Boo.
Years ago a family member regularly traveled to France on business and would supply me with Roger & Gallet soaps and fragrances. I love European pharmacy products.
If I’m lucky the Nivea EdT might show up on the US Amazon site or elsewhere online. Fingers crossed.
See my note above!!
Rough day, have been wearing a lot of Chanel Chance edp for a dose of freshness and good luck!
