Happy Thursday! We're almost to June. If you have a minute, do tell us what fragrance you're wearing.
I'm wearing Marc Jacobs Daisy, mostly because I couldn't find my sample of Marc Jacobs Bang.
Reminder: tomorrow is Flirty Friday, and you can interpret that however you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Cher for Marc Jacobs, Fall 2015 campaign.
SOTD: Aveda Men Pure-Formance (Aveda) 🙂
Love that one, bought it a little while ago. You smell great.
I must be on a vetiver kick… I’m not all that fond of this one but decided to wear it because it has been a long time. All I’m getting is mint, mint, and more mint.
Odd – I don’t get much mint. But I LOVE mint (and not, generally, vetiver) so that could explain some things. I get more piney-citrus peel (which I’ve always figured is the kunzea), with spice in the dry down.
I love that one too! I bought some for my husband and ended up using it all myself
Robert Piguet Bandit. Bitter, green, mossy.
OMG, I almost wore this today!
I’m sampling Eau de Celeri again today and really hoping it lasts through the gym this time. The opening is nice (I might just have been in the perfect mood for it though) but I have missed the base notes the last two times. I wonder if it just quiets down or has my ADD begun to impinge on my perfume smelling?
That Cher picture is extra odd – even for Cher. Was she actually at the shoot or is she CG? Her face is creepy smooth (but I like the ice goth-y outfit).
Twins!
Oh, I was thinking that clearly Cher has had some work done… and is probably heavily photoshopped… but she still looks mostly like herself.
Combined with the pale skin and work done, as a woman of a certain age I can’t imagine why anyone would plaster their hair down at such a sharp vertical line against their face. At that age we don’t need to be reminded that objects are falling.
I asked to sample this in my last Twisted Lily order… I don’t know, I love green perfumes but this didn’t do much for me. Not as weird as I thought it’d be. (and no celery! at least on my skin)
Not weird or celeryish at all but very pleasant to me once I adjusted my expectations. It helps that it reminds me of vintage 4711 and O de Lancôme, both of which I’m a sucker for.
SOTD is box of eels … even though it is hot and humid here, I am in a training course in an over air conditioned room. This perfume can handle both fine. Love this stuff, glad I found another great sandalwood perfume but not so happy my want list is getting so long 😉
Also, I’m glad I chose comforting sandalwood today, as my boss has something “urgent” to tell me later today. With all the talk of cost cutting and rumors of layoffs – I’ll pretty much be a ball of anxiety until he gets around to telling me whatever it is he has to tell me.
I hope he tells you something good!
I hope it’s a good urgent thing!
Ugh, sounds like he really should have kept his mouth shut. Even if he has bad news, making you fret all day about it is really inconsiderate and not helpful. I hope it’s good news!
Agreed. It’s so stressful not knowing if you’re getting good or bad news all day and affects how people work. I hope it’s good news as well.
Keeping fingers crossed for you.
Hang in there! Fingers crossed you’ll get good news.
Thanks for all the good wishes! It really does make me feel better 🙂
So my totally useless opinion is that if you are planning to lay someone off, you do not prep them by telling them you have urgent news to share with them—the news may be urgent for the teller, but hardly for the receiver. So I think he has other urgent news about other people’s layoffs… or something else.
Sigh.
Okay. I feel a tiny bit better.
Hope your day has a much better than expected end!!!!
My thought exactly. More likely someone else is getting the ax, and you’ll be shouldering some “new, important” responsibilities. Sorry for the negativity; corporate life does leave it’s scars.
On the positive side, every experience leaves us wiser and better prepared to craft the life we’re meant to live. Life is balance.
Yep, my thoughts, too.
Still…ugh. Those aren’t fun conversations any way you slice it.
Good luck!
He must not have gone through HR 101. Also, no RIF notifications are allowed on Fridays and before holidays. I hope everything turned out well.
Best of luck Rose pepper!
Fingr’s crossed for you!!!
Scent twins. I am wearing Daisy today too!
Hi twin!
I like Daisy… maybe I’ll pull out my mini for later, after I’m done with the weeding (or after I give up on it, whichever comes first).
Monsillage Eau de Celeri. I want to spray it 6 times, but sadly I only have a dab-on sample vial :).
Me too! The opening reminds me of 4711 from the early eighties (that is high praise, BTW) now that the scent memory has finally clicked. I could happily walk around in a cloud of it and really will need at least a small spray decant some day. Maybe I’ll try the rest of my sample vial in the bath. I bet it would be heavenly.
That’s why I love that top note! Thank you so much for naming that for me. This is my literal grandma smell.
4711 was my grandmother’s scent too!
It was one of my mom’s scents and the first I remember being allowed to wear. I dumped the rest of my sample into a little sprayer and re-applied after my workout. I may need a full bottle to bridge the gap between O de Lancôme and 4711 😉
I think I need one, too!
Bang! is great. Still dithering on whether I need a bottle of it.
I’m wearing L’Eternel Feminin by Divine. Gorgeous, and far more grown up than I’ll ever be.
I like it too…wish they’d done a better job on Bang Bang, and wish they’d do another flanker.
And I wish it came in a better bottle this one is plain awkward.
The first MJ Bang doesn’t, but mention of the flanker BangBang starts Nancy Sinatra going in my head…
Considering how similar to Poivre Sammarcand it is and how cheap per ml in comparison, how can you not?
SOTD: Valentina PINK.
I just couldn’t resist that adorable opaque pink bottle!
It smells, well, you probably guessed it: strawberry lollipop, candy floss, bubblegum explosion and someone tried to put the flame out with golden syrup.
Now where is my pancake…
Before we hop into the Hello Kitty convertible…
Thanks for the smiles, guys.
There are certain times when strawberry scents are just right. I also love that bottle and might have to get one myself.
Vintage Apres l’Ondee today. So pretty…
Yum!!
I’m in vintage Fahrenheit today – I smell like roof tar and honeysuckle.
Yum! 🙂
I wish I had tried that one back in the day. It sounds seriously gorgeous.
Eau des Merveilles today, yet another entry in the chapter “why don’t I wear this more often!”
Second hot gross day in a row, so I am splashed with 4711 Acqua Colonia Lemon & Ginger, exactly what it says on the bottle. The cologniest thing that ever cologned. No lasting power, of course, but the perfect bright bracing scent for a day like this.
It’s supposed to reach 80 degrees or more today, so I’m in Jour d’Hermes, sprayed liberally. Bright and happy!
Twins! I love the grapefruit opening and wish I had some here at the office so that I could reapply.
I am wearing Guerlain Eau de fleurs de cédrat. It is perfect during summer, it doesn’t last long though, I have to reapply during the day . I love it a lot. It is the perfect summer scent.
annawilde’s comment from yesterday reminded me that I should wear Rue Cambon today, for the press event I have to chair – in control, but approachable is the vibe I’m going for. If I want to project being in control without the approachable part, I usually go for No 19. And for “in control, but what a lovely, enthusiastic person!”, I’ll wear Cristalle. Chanel really does the best office scents, in my opinion.
I agree! I love the in control, but … description. Today I am in control, but comforted with Bois des Iles.
Another good one, although I haven’t worn it in a while.
I think so too Annikky, although I am very lucky to work from home in my own office most of the time! Still wearing a lot of 19, Cristalle and Eau Premiere. Bois des Iles is for winter, but lovely. Wore some 22 to bed, from a sample, lots and lots of aldehydes, and gorgeous incense dry down.
I would happily own and wear most exclusifs (and I do own and wear several). No 22 is the only one I find difficult, but I’m working on it.
I really did love wearing it yesterday. Though I was running errands with the kids in ripped jeans and flip flops rather than chairing a press event 😉 That’s one of the things I love about perfume; that you can wear a scent meant for a ball gown while schlubbing around town. And I agree about the Chanels; there’s one for every mood and every event!
Absolutely, wearing glamorous perfumes out of context is one of my favourite things.
I think you’re right. Chanel really does do office scents the right way. I think they are very versatile.
Cristalle is probably the most versatile scent I own, I cannot think of an occasion where it would be out of place.
Y is good for the office too.
I remember liking it, but it was a long time ago. Must re-try.
SOTD is La Chasse Aux Papillons. I was going to wear it for Flirty Friday, but it’s really more girly than flirty. Just discovered they have a rollerball at Sephora too. May have to get it when my decant’s all gone.
I’m actually considering this one for Friday!
My older daughter gave this to me for Mother’s Day, but sadly the bottle sprayer was defective. I’m waiting eagerly for the new bottle!
Wearing Classic Opoponax, von Eussersdorf.
A must try for oriental lovers!
I am not a good revieuwer… but to me it is a very simpel version of Coco. Not complex like Coco. Opoponax is the main part of it.
Overspray, and you won’t annoy anyone.
I am going through a difficult period right know and beside my lovely husband, this scent is the ultimate blanket on my shoulder
Boy how I love it!!
Good to gather up all the blankets.
Thank you
Sorry you are going through a difficult time. It’s nice to have comforting people and scents around 🙂 Hope it gets better soon!
Thanks for the lovely words..
Hang in there. We got your back too.
Thank you.. Makes me feel good..
Also hoping things start looking up for you!
thanks for the kind words!!
I have a mini of the Von Eusserdorf Myrrh and it is fantastic! Must try Opoponax! Have you tried the one from Prada? I don’t recall the. Number but to me, it actually smelled irisy
I only really tested classic orange on skin, lovely for 10 minutes but then…sweeeeeet:)
The others I only smelled on paper. But indeed, you have to try opoponax!
which Prada exactly??
Prada No.8 Opopanax.
Un jardin sur le Toit today. It’s been a long time since I’ve worn it, but I am enjoying it tremendously, and it is a sort of stand in garden scent to make up for the lack of one in my garden as it is still March here…saw some pollinators though, so there is action but not a lot.
Un Jardin sur le Toit is one of my favorites. You smell like pure spring!
Wearing Intense Vetyver from Zara today… at least I was about an hour ago!
SOTD is Arpege – I can really smell the ylang ylang today. Such a beautiful perfume.
Arpege is good stuff. Seems like I only wear it in autumn, though.
Yes, it seems distinctly autumnal to me too. I should try it on a summer day and see how I like it.
Jil Sander Man Scent 79 which is a nice dry herbal, floral incense with a little leather background.
I’m wearing Breath of God and really appreciate its cool, earthy tranquility today. Plus, I have such good associations with wearing it. I should wear this more.
I love the name – I want to try this…
It’s a weird one for sure, but don’t be too disheartened if you hate it the first time you try it. I certainly did, and yet now I own the travel spray and the solid. 🙂
Thus far, I haven’t even gotten to the scent of the day. But I am eagerly waiting for more Bal to arrive on my doorstep today. Since it will be in the 80’s, I think that I will wear Kyoto today.
so it works in the heat? I’ve just gotten a decant in a swap but not tried it thinking I would feel suffocated.
It’s not one of those scents that gives that cold feeling in heat. It’s not suffocating at all.
one of my favorites, and the only incense I can bear in the heat!
My SOTD is Oscar de la Renta Oscar. I wore this a lot when I was a teenager in the 80s. I bought a bottle, and received it in the mail Tuesday. It’s not how I remember it. It’s still pleasant though.
Its already Thursday — yay!!
That was my mothers perfume. How do you find it?
She also had the powder too-the container was so elegant.
I remember it as projecting more. I almost have to bury my nose into my wrist to smell it. I also remember it being more floral, more coco-nutty.
I don’t know if I’m remembering it incorrectly or if it has changed. Its still very pretty, and I think I’ll enjoy wearing it.
Do tell. I’ve got some coming my way, I think, and am very interested.
The original has changed. I highly recommend the more recent flanker, Esprit d’Oscar.
Oh yes, I tried this recently – it’s really nice 🙂
Esprit d’Oscar is one of my favorite scents to wear. Very uplifting!
Love Esprit d’Oscar… which seems to me like the young hip grand-niece of L’Heure Bleue.
I was away traveling for a couple weeks and have now returned, but sadly, I have been sick for the majority of it and my sniffer appears to be completely off kilter. I returned to my office and tried a number of my scents and they’re all too sweet for me right now. Hopefully my usual tastes will return, but in the meantime, I am wearing a rose and peony-scented perfume oil from, of all places, Urban Outfitters. It was all of $28 and is one of the few scents I’m tolerating right now. Plus, it has all kinds of lovely oils that are great for the skin, and isn’t at all overpowering even when I’m covered in it. Definitely recommended as a nice summer scent and when you’re recovering from a cold.
Hope you’ll recover fully and quickly
Thanks dear!
I thought you went missing for a bit.
How were your travels other than being sick?
Good to see you back 😉
Travels were lovely. May is the best month in most places, and I went to Michigan for family and San Diego for friends.
How are you?
But seriously though – this rose oil! This stuff is still going hours later. Loving it.
Hope you recover soon!
I’ve seen some perfume oils at Urban Outfitters that have these lovely flower petals suspended in the oil… is it one of those?
Thank you!
And it is that one exactly. It smells fantastic! Absolutely worth the $28, in my opinion.
I was wondering where you were. Welcome back!
Not in a popular fragrance today. Eau des Minimes. Its a light botanical fragrance from Le Couvent des Minimes. Very fresh and good for my day off today with the baby.
I haven’t tried it and want to. I thought it was popular.
As far as I know, their Eau des Missions is the most talked about among our set.
AH! well it is popular! I am enjoying it on this humid hot day
“Among our set” – I heart you, Holly!
Yep love Eau de Missions!
And I second Hasujurri- this is a lovely set to be a member of!
Still in recovery mode. Took off yesterday because the cold really knocked me down and I needed a day to rest. Wearing Eau de Premiere today. Although I think it fits my mood/outfit, it’s not doing much for me due to being so stuffed up and sneezly. Bleh. Thank goodness this is a short week.
I’ve been out of the loop here for a bit while traveling, but I bet you had the same thing I did. Vicious cough? Hope you feel better soon!
My fiance had it first for two weeks and I thought I was in the clear. Then we worked on house stuff during the long weekend and I exhausted myself too much. He relapsed on Tuesday and I’ve been struck down now. But yes, bad whooping cough, lots of post nasal drip and sore throat. Bleh.
I meant to add this to my post but every time I see Cher I think she’s the real life version of Morticia Addams.
Can’t believe I didn’t notice that.
For Keep It Simple Thursday I am in Bas de Soie. Pink, but more a pale silk pink rather than a bubblegum.
I see Bas de Soie as hyacinth blue, but yes, it’s a pale shade.
SheriG and I have the same weather and although I considered Jour d’Hermes I chose Bronze Goddess instead. I can’t go to the beach today so the beach will have to come to me.
Testing Parfums MDCI Cio Cio San. It has some citrus at the beginning and then I get kind of a rosy smell, although I don’t see rose listed as a note. The citrus part is not too sharp. It’s a light perfume, but seems to be lasting well on me.
Wearing Lostmarc’h Ael-Mat, which I wanted to compare to my sample of Metarboles (can’t remember name of company who does that one now). Metarboles has a nice minty thing going on in the beginning, but then turns into the top notes of Ael-Mat. Ael-Mat has now, about 4 hours after application, completely disappeared. And it was a bit sweeter than Metarboles, and never had the minty thing. Both good for summer/spring, but probably do not need full bottles of either.
Ys Uzac?
Thank you, that’s the one. Brain is busy dealing with brainweasels right now, and can’t concentrate on important stuff like perfume houses. 🙂
Happy to help with the important stuff! 😉
Pretending I’m on holiday by slathering Bronze Goddess body cream… Mmmm!
(I find the perfume a little too much/overpowering for me, but the cream is amazing)
I’ve been spending a lot of time in the garden over the last few days. Such a good time for flowers! Just got most of the vegetables planted yesterday, and today will be harvesting some lavender buds to make infused syrup. So, in honour of the lavender, I’m wearing Burberry Brit Rhythm for her.
Sounds so yummy!
It is, and so easy. Last year was the first year I tried, and I didn’t make nearly enough (didn’t want to clearcut my lavender). This year I should make more. My friend harvests wild elderflower to make syrup, so usually we do a trade.
Twins!
You smell great!
The first bloom on my rosa rugosa shrub opened today, deep red-purple and lushly fragrant. The blossoms only last a day and are not suitable for cutting, but each day for several weeks a new one appears. Wearing SSS Velvet Rose on a beautiful warm, sunny day.
I need to plant more roses…
Cher has had soo much plastic done that she also can be used for tupperware.
Terracotta
But to give her credit… she is hilarious about her looks and her voice.. very down to earth about being a moderate talent who puts on a very good show.
A VERY good show. I saw her and Cyndi Lauper with a group of girlfriends in 2002 and we had the time of our lives. Cher pulled out the big guns: wardrobe changes, a giant elephant puppet, cowboys, fire. It was pretty great.
This sounds perfect. Who cares about the surgery if the lady has a giant elephant puppet?
That might be my favorite quote for the week: “Who cares about the surgery if the lady has a giant elephant puppet?” …Endless applications!
Cuir d’Ange for me today. This makes me feel so sophisticated (though I most definitely am not) The power of perfume 🙂
SOTD is the extremely beautiful Mohur Extrait Parfum. I was gifted with a small bit of this, which I’m starting to think was a curse vs. a blessing now that I have fallen totally head over heals for it and the only purchase option is 50ml for $445…:(
Is there anything like it out there? Rose & sandalwood, but of really superb ingredients. What about the edp version? From what I’ve read it doesn’t seem like the extrait at all.
Maybe a split 🙂
I love it too, thanks to Hasujuuri! I would participate in a split of this! Maybe I would be willing to host a split, since I (heart) that bottle. Let’s make a list…
I love the bottle as well!
(Heart) bottle twins!
Also wanted to add that IMHO, the extrait is not at all like the EDP. On me, the EDP smells like pencil shavings because kf the cedar.
I love the EDP and am afraido try the extra it due to the expense. My wish list is sort of grouped; I would buy more Mohur EDP or I would buy Volnay Brume d’Hiver because they fill a similar void.
SOTD: Surrender
I just saw the discontinued fragrance link (basenotes). How depressing! It looks like Silences is on the chopping block. Let the hoarding commence!
Is that one of STC’s house frags? How is it? Am wearing a sample of a natural today too–CBIHP Cradle of Light Absolute. Gorgeous jasmine, but fleeting (and I’m not a longevity fiend). Pretty as it is, can’t imagine shelling out for it.
Yes, it is the STC Surrender by Abdes Salaam Attar. His Tawaf is one of my favorite jasmines, so I knew I had to try Surrender.
Surrender is fresh, green and spiky. Some people find it animalic rather than indolic. I find it refreshing, a cool jasmine brightened by just a hint of anise/licorice. As is almost always the case with naturals, longevity is poor and sillage is minimal. I love Cradle of Light as well, and I agree with you, I wouldn’t shell out for it. I’ve only tested Surrender a couple of times, so ymmv. In general, I appreciate the Abdes stuff I’ve tried as he uses actual oakmoss, hyraceum, etc and in general it’s those heavy base notes that hold the natural fragrances together.
Sounds awesome!
It really is. Have you tried any of his stuff? Somehow I think I recollect your being interested in this kind of thing …
Silences isn’t for everyone. Heck, it isn’t even for me unless I’m in the right mood – then it’s perfect. I can see it not selling much as most who love it probably have several backups and it isn’t very like today’s mainstream stuff. It is a shame though ’cause I thought they had done better than usual with the reformulation.
Silences is my Goldilocks fragrance. I would truly be bereft without it.
I’m not saying I won’t buy a back up or two, only that she can be difficult if I misjudge my mood 😉 I actually sprayed myself down just to be sure and yes, I still love it.
I’m not sure but the last time I wore Silences I had a awful headache. I should probably revisit it and see if it was my fault or hers . If it was hers then she’ll be getting a new home one way or another!
Today I’m wearing Le Labo Rose 31 my very favorite from that line.
You smell good! Love that spicy rose.
More for you then because on me, it smells like dirty socks.
Oh my gosh! I have had that happen with Rose 31; I once had one wrist that was heaven and one that was a sweaty, cumin-y mess! But still, I love it!
In Bottega Veneta and enjoying it very much. I have two long meetings scheduled today about my younger son and I wanted something cheerful and elegant.
My son is not elegant, but he is cheerful!–This morning when I woke him up he was buried under the covers with his sleep apnea machine still roaring away… I finally got him to shut the thing off and take off his mask. Disheveled but smiling he said, “Well at least TGIF!” I had to tell him that it was not Friday but Thursday. “Arrgghhh!” he said and lay back down, cracking his head against his plastic breathing mask. For a second I thought he was going to cry, and then he just started laughing and laughing. “That’s okay,” he said. “It will be an alright day any way.”
Making me smile still… that and the Bottega Veneta.
Aww, that story made me laugh He has a great attitude 😉
What a sweetheart! I hope the meetings go well.
Yes, that attitude might even be elegant, in a broader sense! 🙂
Bottega Veneta is a GREAT meeting scent.
Such a cute story! Thanks for sharing!! He sounds like a doll!
The optimism of kids is amazing. I love learning from it.
Gris Clair. No staying power, but a great icy lavender for a little while.
I love Gris Clair, four sprays minimum.
It has been May gray for the past couple of weeks here in San Francisco so today I am wearing Un Jardin en Méditerranée and daydreaming of sunnier days.
Twins! In perfume and weather – I’m in San Diego and we are having our May gray here as well. Jardin en Med is so nice.
Boo, I am always late to the party.
I’m unperfumed today! The judge I just started clerking for is extremely averse to fragrance, so I need to become accustomed to wearing very discreet sprays to work or none at all.. but when I get home I plan on wearing some Dior Bois d’Argent!
Argh! Who is he/she to judge!
Lol!!!
It took me a couple seconds to get that! Ha! (It’s been a long day.)
Scent almost-twins! I’m wearing Bois d’Argent today, got my FB yesterday, yay! Ordered direct from Dior… nice samples, too, though I’m not sure what I’m meant to make of the ‘booklet’ of photos of Robert Pattinson sulking, errr, brooding, as he flogs Dior Homme. What-e-ver. 🙂
Do wish the Diors came in smaller bottles though. 125ml is quite more than enough…
Ooh yes, I hear that the Dior Boutique sends very cute minis when you order any Dior Privee from them… but I can’t use more than 30 ML of anything in my lifetime, so mine is from a split of one of those 450 ML vats. Loving the soft honey note in this. 🙂
I’m sampling Clinique Calyx today. It’s not half bad, though not as fizzy and green as I’d hoped. At least not on me.
I am a delicious apricot strudel in Amouage Sunshine today.
Just ordered a sample of that and am really looking forward to getting it.
Now I want to eat apricot strudel.
Ditto.
Late, late, late! I hopped on my treadmill and started working this morning and have been so busy I forgot to fume myself! Gasp!
However, I’m gonna fix that tragedy right now with a spritz of Box of Eels 🙂
Happy Almost Friday Day to all.
Happy Almost Friday!
Testing Agonist Isis on one hand and Jean Patou Sublime on the other. The Isis is just a gorgeous gourmand with citrus notes, nutmeg, amber and vanilla and might have to be my next FB. Sublime is kind of a retro floriental that seems to get better the longer it’s on. Have to test Isis on the hubby and kids.
I always get pineapple candy from Isis but my nose is notoriously unsophisticated 🙂 It is really elegant pineapple candy though and I would certainly take a bottle if I could afford to buy everything I like. It is a scent that makes me smile.
I do dig Cher’s outfit in the pic, but all that surgery is making her look like an alien. Or maybe it’s just photoshop, who knows.
I’m wearing a DIY thing today. I was experimenting with some white champa (aka Chinese magnolia) oil that I had, and I tried combining it with tobacco and violet. It’s not bad, but I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. I like the stage it’s at now, but earlier in the day I was feeling a bit iffier. At one point the tobacco/violet combo with the sweet magnolia was making me think of blueberry candy.
Ditto on Cher’s looks. A pity, for such a great artist.
You know, thinking further on Jenkr’s Morticia Addams comment, with Cher being as visually-oriented as she is, and that photo being so carefully staged, I’ll bet this pic is a hint at an upcoming role. Wonder how recent the photo is.
According to Marc Jacob’s Instagram, very recent!!!
Haie Fleurie. Love it in hot weather even more than in cooler weather and it’s 86 here. So satisfying
Chanel no. 5 EdT. Love, love, love this one. 🙂
Thumbs up.
