Yves Saint Laurent Kouros Silver ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 8 March 2015 11 Comments

Yves Saint Laurent Kouros Silver

Yves Saint Laurent will launch Kouros Silver. The new fragrance is a summer flanker to 1981's Kouros for men, and follows 2014's Kouros Eau de Toilette Tonique.

[...] With this new version, Yves Saint Laurent aims to modernize the sensual man represented by its legendary fragrance. Between power, virility and style, the new Kouros man has a more contemporary identity, which is reflected both in the perfume's ingredients and in the design of the new flacon.

Developed for summer, the new fragrance is cooler than the original. Noses Michel Girard and Olivier Pescheux chose an apple accord accented with sage and underscored by sensual wood and amber base notes.

"The olfactory development of Kouros Silver reflects the evolution of men's perfume. Once all about 'hygiene,' it is now multifaceted: coolness, power, sensuality," explain the perfumers. "The challenge was respecting the original perfume's sensual and powerful identity while adding innovation and a modern vision in line with the expectations of today's men."

Yves Saint Laurent Kouros Silver will debut this spring; I'll update with sizes and concentration when I can.

Update: Kouros Silver is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

Apple accord in Kouros? What’s next, a marshmallow accord in Mitsouko?

Ha, you never know, do you? If you’re going to claim Kouros was ever about “hygiene”, I guess you can do anything 😉

I would try marshmallow Mitsouko, personally. 🙂

You know what, I don’t trust the perfumers’ views on men’s perfume!

I don’t trust anybody, LOL…I would be pretty surprised if they wrote that themselves.

Kouros represented “hygiene?” I’ve only sniffed it once but that is not the impression I got.

Yeah. A very particular slant on hygiene!

An apple note could work in Kouros if you consider the pineapple aroma in Kouros Eau Fraiche. The Eau Fraiche tonned down the animalic musks but still retained a lot of the mainly fougere structure, adding this ripe pineapple aroma which worked wonderfully.

I’m actually very keen on smelling Kouros Fraicheur; I should remember to look out for it more carefully. Of course, I’ll also try Silver once it comes out since its bound to be readily available.

How I loved Kouros Fraîcheur from 1993. It was so beautiful and it’s impossible to find now. I’m looking forward to trying this new interpretation.
