If you have a free moment, do chime in with your fragrance of the day.
I'm wearing Clinique Aromatics Elixir Perfumer's Reserve (although not in the solid form, as shown above). Has anyone tried the new Aromatics in White yet?
Reminder: tomorrow, 1/30, will be Oud Friday! Wear an oud fragrance.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Started Oud Day a little early with Mohur EDP. Gorgeous and utterly out of my price range.
I’ll be wearing Mohur tomorrow. You smell awesome!
Scent twins! I’d wear this tomorrow, but I have an interview.
SOTD is Incense Oud (By Kilian). Now which Oud to apply tomorrow?
M7, of course 😉
You are PSYCHIC! That is just the Oud I was considering for tomorrow, and I don’t wear it nearly often enough. Thanks! 🙂
I have a vintage bottle that I haven’t yet tried so I’ll probably stay away from it tomorrow just in case it doesn’t work for me!
Incense Oud is great– maybe I’ll wear that tomorrow
I’ll be wearing BK Amber Oud, which seems to be all about the amber! I like it very much…
Samsara for me today. It’s a bottle from way back then, and I feel like a million dollars.
And that sandalwood is now worth a million dollars 🙂
This is one I haven’t tried yet, mostly because everyone seems to suggest it’s been ruined by reformulation. I do love sandalwood in all its forms though – artificial and otherwise. Might have to give it a try…and of course spring for an old bottle if I come across it.
I wouldn’t say it has been ruined by reformulation, just the difference between real sandalwood and what they use now is big. So yes, it’s not as good as it used to be, but still a nice fragrance IMO.
Would you like me to send you a sample?
You are unbelievably sweet. That is so kind of you!!
Are you sure you can spare it?
Wearing Puredistance M. I think I FINALLY get to go home today.
Any perfume shopping/sniffing while here (NYC)?
Not a bad place for an unexpected longer stay 😉
That would be nice if it was an extended vacation, but I’ve been working during the day, so haven’t really had the chance. Oh well. I wanted to go to Twisted Lily on Monday (my day off) but it was closed!
Good luck!!
Robin, you smell fantastic! And since imitation is the highest form of flattery I will wear Aromatics Elixir Perfumer’s Reserve as well!
Yay, twins 🙂
L’Ame D’Un Heros by Guerlain is my SOTD. On a chypre kick lately.
I gave Aromatics In White a quick sniff, then a more analytic one, it struck me as a NR For Her clone, and a very good one at that. I was disappointed because I mixed this one and Beyond Rose in my mind and expected a patchouli-rose-oud combo, which it’s not.
Interesting — if it’s an NR clone, it will be better than I expected. Thanks!
Sampling Soivohle Blood Orange and Vetiver today but the opening is almost acrid on me. Softening down a little now….
That’s a beautiful solid perfume piece! Not a fan of the scent, but wouldn’t mind one of those ; )
SOTD: trying a new (for me) Tauer from the NYC freebiemeet, Une Rose Chypree – he does not do subtle! Or light! The combo of patch & cinnamon is intense. Like but not love.
It’s fabulous! Love the rich color. Had no idea at first glance it was a solid!
My only question is (and this must be more intuitive in person) how do you use it? I mean, does the design get obliterated as you use it? Or does it sit on a table and scent the space?
So many questions 🙂
I think that’s just the case shown in the picture–the solid perfumes I have had were in a little compact, which I opened and then the solid perfume inside resembled lip balm in texture.
Now i want it more. Sounds gorgeous. Thanks!
You may yet fall in love – URC grew on me until I just had to have one of the 15 ml bottles.
I’m liking it more now, a few hours later..much softer
I do appreciate greatly that his scents last all day.
I’m in Fleurs d’Oranger – 3 sprays! But the cold sedates it a bit. My husband was in Acqua Di Parma Colonia Leather, so there was a lot of competing orange blossom in the car this morning.
Ohh, I heard so many great things about Leather. I love the original Colonia. Does leather smell even a bit like it?
I’m not especially familiar with the original Colonia, but Kevin’s October review mentioned the opening citrus notes/effect are similar.
https://nstperfume.com/2014/10/08/tom-ford-private-blend-tuscan-leather-acqua-di-parma-colonia-leather-fragrance-reviews/
Oh, had not heard about the AdP leather. I love orange blossom leather, namely, PG Cuir Venenum. Will have to try this.
I love orange blossom too, and I often sneak spritzes from his bottle (though the “sneaky” part doesn’t last long – it’s a intense scent so he can pretty much figure out if I’ve sprayed it…)
I’m trying Tam Dao EdT this morning. I sniffed it at Nordstrom once and it seemed all wood but I’m getting a pretty peppery opening and a twinge of wood shavings that smell a touch like BO. Interesting.
Aramis Perfume Calligraphy Rose.
Wow, the reviews of this on Fragrant ice make this sound pretty special. Another sampling opportunity!
Yes, it is worth a shot!
I haven’t even gotten that far as to pick out a SOTD. Today is a bad case of dragging butt because of work and construction at home. I think I should wear Amouage Gold for women or maybe I should just go with Mitsouko.
I don’t think you could go wrong with either of those 🙂
Dragging butt. That’s what i have had all week!
Guess i need a swift kick in the pants to get me going. Drat.
Oriza L Legrand Marrion-Nous. Originally created in 1927, now just out again. Smells like my grandmother, in the best possible way. I love this. My list of things to buy is growing. … I will have to figure out a way to prioritize!
Oops, wanted to subscribe but missed it.
Sorry…there is probably a way for me to add it manually but don’t know how to do for a particular comment.
Oh, that OK I did. It for the second comment and that worked fine.
Good!
SOTD = Amouage Jubilation XXV
Wow! It’s warm and spicy and perfect for another cold day in NYC. I have a decant which will last me anwhile but if I come across a FB at a good price, I will buy it.
I appreciate those who had started early on the oud bandwagon. I seem to bave more oud perfumes than I originally thought (e.g. Mohur).
Sometimes Fragrancenet or Beauty Encounter can have some really good bargains on the Amouage stuff. Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, you might find a really good bargain.
Ditto this.
I’ve been eyeing up a bottle of Lyric.
I should choose the option of getting an email once it becomes available. Coincidentally, there was a 25% off coupon on Fragrrancenet a few days ago and I filled my cart with two bargain priced perfumes – Prada L’eau Ambree and Burberry Brit Rhythm for Women. The former I just received samples from the lovely floragal (and haven’t yet tried) and a largish decant from a fellow perfumista. I was so proud of myself for abandoning my cart!
I was surprised at how much I liked XXV. (Because I haaaaaaated Jub 25.)
Incidentally… this came up yesterday but I don’t know if anyone has discussed it in detail – someone was mentioning that Lyric Woman may have been substantially reformulated. My decant is from 2010 (’09 maybe?) and it’s all dry rose/silvery meditative incense, sprinkled with spice. However, the commenter yesterday, and the review on Kafkaesque’s blog, both remarked on how ylang-y it is, and I think both of them were working off recent samples.
I don’t know that I would ever buy an entire bottle anyway – but I sort of hate it that the scent focus might have changed. Anybody have the dirt on this?
No idea but I haven’t ever gotten much rose from the decants and samples I have, and they’re all recent. It is mainly creamy cardamom and Ylang to me and it’s gorgeous, but that could just be my perception. I think it’s completely possible that there has been a reformulation since my experience seems to be very in line with Kafka’s but I haven’t tried any older juice. Maybe you should try a 2ml sample and let us know? Now you have me curious.
I’ve been sick the last two days with a stomach virus, and fragrance was the last thing on my mind. I’ve made decision to work through my old samples, so today I’m wearing Costamor Beachwood. It smells like crayon, and not in a good way. Definitely a scrubber.
Boo that’s a shame. Hope you feel better soon.
Even scents I like are EXTREMELY hard for me to stomach when I’m sick. Get better soon!
I often find that even scents I love smell very different – and not always in a good way – when I’m ill.
I go for citrus when I’m feeling woozy. Eau de Cologne is my medicine. 🙂
Only half awake today. I put on a hefty amount of Amouage Opus III and it smelled quite animalic in the car for the commute in. It’s calmed down now, but that was the first time I’d experienced that fragrance smelling that strongly. It was kinda nice.
Agent Provocateur edp. Love it! I must buy more very soon : )
Lann-Ael today – trying to feel (a little?) cozy at work. I have a headache and don’t want to be here.
Love Lann-Ael. If the breadiness lasted a little longer, I would buy a bottle. For now I am happy with my decant.
Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin is my SOTD – my all time favorite of her scents even though it sometimes hits me with a whiff of Fancy Men’s Cologne. It smells very invigorating to me which is goodbecause I have an afternoon filled with boring meetings – I need something to keep me awake.
I’m wearing Versace Crystal Noir, which I quite like in the summer but today just smells like regret.
… “smells like regret.” HA. Been there. Not with Crystal Noir, but all the same, I know.
Wha haaaa.
I like Crystal Noir on scent tester strips, but it doesn’t like me. I kept a “one squirt” strip on my office desk and my office smelled very good for many days.
SOTD Cerruti 1881 – the original, uomo-version…
I like the women’s version in summer.
Have not sniffed that one – I got this one (cheap) essentially unsniffed because I remembered how much I liked it many years ago. I also like the name – the year one of my grandmas was born – I do get suckered by names sometimes and really, really want to like something and am sad when I don’t…
SOTD is Arquiste for JCrew No 57. I seem to wear this alot.
It’s a good scent
I thought it was good, too. I like the number…
I have to try both of these again now that the weather’s cold. I remember liking them, but the moment wasn’t quite right. 57 has a great whiskey note, though!
Yeah, I think the whiskey note is what keeps me going back!
Ineke’s Evening Edged in Gold combined with Field Notes from Paris on my scarf and my own blend of essential oils of tangerine, neroli and frankincense from eden botanicals on my wirsts.
I have the ineke scent library and vol 5 sampler but have yet to try any. I really should get on that!
Given your love for Gold Leather I think you would enjoy Evening Edged in Gold…on my skin it lasts a while but when I spray it on a scarf it lasts forever! And to my nose it is a gorgeous golden leather with osmanthus, angel’s trumpet and midnight candy (a flower, not a synthetic note) and leather in the base….one of the few leathers I truly like….
Evening Edged in Gold is my favourite of the ones I have sampled from her line. I don’t know anything quite like it. If the longevity was a bit better I’d find it FB worthy.
It lasts a good while on me, it is original for sure.
That sounds amazing! I have layered EEIG with Piguet’s Oud before and enjoyed that too 🙂
Jacques Fath Pour l’Homme. Wood-panelled barbershop sexed up with amber.
LOL.
They make so much about Iris Gris, but I see that other of his perfumes are in production, like this one. How is it? Cute description, but do you like it?
I am wearing Montale Black Aoud, which may be just a bit much for the office. Luckily I have no meetings today.
I am wearing AG Le Mimosa. Wanted something nice and light today because tomorrow is Oud day.
SOTD is SL Daim Blond, from a new-ish decant. Last time I wore it it seemed too sweet, but it’s just right in this colder weather. I may need a FB, if I can find a good price. I’ve heard that the older versions are better but I suppose ignorance is bliss, as I’m loving this now.
Sign up for parfum1 emails – they have 20% discounts pretty often, which is how I got my Chene.
Good idea. I’ve also had good luck finding discounted SL at fragrancenet.
Bvlgari Black, possibly something else later on. Dunno!
I’m wearing Rosa Flamenca by Les Parfums de Rosine. My other Rosines are very light ( Ecume and Un Zest) this one isn’t, which is just as well on a wintry day.
Do you like the perfumers reserve? I like it a lot but nothing will ever beat the original imho. I’ve yet to smell white but I just can’t “see” a white version of AE in any way.
I’ve been contemplating M7 for tomorrow as well. It’s my only real oud fragrance.
I like the Aromatics Elixir Perfumer’s Reserve, but it is a different perfume from the original. To bad it was a limited edition. Agree, a “white” version sounds like an oxymoron!
Can you describe the differences? I have an edt of AE that I quite like.
It may have been Angela who described it as more huggable than the original. AE is a bit edgy and the PR version is smoother and a bit deeper.
I like both of them very much. I wouldn’t have wanted them to replace AE with PR, but I’m sorry PR was only around for such a short time. Seems like such a waste to develop something that good and not keep in the line. It was so much better than most of what’s in department stores.
The original is better…I’d like to see a Perfumer’s Reserve that wasn’t trying to modernize the original — just use better materials, you know?
Yep, so would I. My main complaint about the perfumer’s reserve is that it has so little sillage. And I find it a tad sharp. AE with better materials……, one can only dream!
what’s the point of AE without sillage?
I remember the original when it first came out and I went through many bottles…it was magnificent and a little went a long way… haven’t worn it in 25 or so years…..has it been reformulated ? do they even still sell the original?
Also loved Clinique’s Wrappings…I think that one is discontinued….
L’Heure Bleue today, the current parfum. Hoarding my old stuff although I know I should wear it before it evaporates or turns…
Wearing JM Blackberry & Bay. Good in just about any weather, fruity but nto too sweet. Very happy I bought this bottle.
The Blackberry & Bay shower gel is on my shower gel rotation and she got a turn yesterday!
Sort of bricking it over a choice for tomorrow… I don’t really have any oud fragrances except for a couple of spray samples of BK Rose Oud (which, everybody knows, ain’t got much to do with oud but tons to do with jammy rose and benzoin, which is why I like it).
Wait, I’m wrong. I do have a sample of M7. That sweet Tama sent me a few years ago and which I have never tried. That’ll do it.
I was thinking I didn’t have any ouds and wasn’t going to participate tomorrow, which is fine. But you have reminded me I have a sample of BK Amber Oud, which also is not really much about oud either (or so I’ve heard). But it’s in the name!
Right, it’s not. I think I still have that sample too – I’m not huge on amber OR on oud, but BK Amber Oud is the silkiest, airiest satin veil of amber. Smoooooooooooth. If M7 tries to kill me, I’ll smother it in AO.
One of the Montale’s I can wear – I think it’s either Auod Rose Petals or Damascus. The rose part is just a knockout, so I tolerate the small bit of oud. But Oud and I don’t get along at all.
I found a sample of Azemour les Orangers that I had forgotten about and thought it would be perfect for today. I was wrong. It has gone all cold ashtray on me and gotten on my nerves. Harrumph.
PS. I have to mow the lawn today, too. Double harrumph.
I’m in MH Geranium Bourbon that arrived today from a sweet friend. It’s cold and windy outside but I’m snug inside with a cup of tea and bread in the oven, so it’s perfect!
That’s on my “to try” list. I love the smell of geranium and I’m curious about the bourbon twist.
GB is perfect any time of year, but especially in winter. It’s a very rich fragrance. Very nice.
It’s the end of the Keep It Simple Work Week, and wearing Lady Levine. Off to a nice supper tonight and then the weekend…
I’m testing a set of Amouage attar samples off and on, and today it’s Amouage Mukhalat, which Zahras Perfumes (a google search result) describes it as tonka oil, cedarwood, moss and amber. I’d say cedar is the most prominent note. It’s growing on me. These attar oils stay very close to the skin, so they are mainly good for contemplation while sitting around reading, blogging, etc. They are discontinued, but the sample set is basically a lifetime supply for me.
Nice! I’m really curious about their attars. It’s a shame they stopped production on them.
SOTD is Fougère Furieuse. The first 1/2 hour was good, but that’s all I can say.
I just (blind) bought a 25ml of Aromatic Elixir and I am surprised for 2 reasons: first, the fragrance is much more rounded than I remembered, almost waxy if that makes any sense. Second, it has that one note that has made me dislike Guerlain Vetiver all those years. Chamomille maybe…
That’s a shame! I don’t like camomile tea at all, but I like both of these perfumes. OHOH, mine are more than five years old.
(I meant OTOH – on the other hand.)
OHOH worked too!
Well “dislike” doesn’t mean I’m not going to wear them. Lol
Strange unlikable scents have a certain attractive quality too
Oh, good! I totally agree. I’ve had a love-hate relationship with a number of perfumes, starting with Shalimar decades ago (although I simply love it now).
A few dabs of Penhaligons Lavandula after dance class, helps me wind down for the evening.
Went to an adventure travel program last night on the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area in northern Minnesota, a beautiful place to paddle a canoe and commune with nature, now I have a hankering for the North Woods. But since it’s still winter, I chose SSS Winter Woods with just a touch of SSS Fireside Intense, to bring inside those wonderful memories of past trips.
Ohhhhh, that sounds like a beautiful place and a fun program. We’re going to a nature program tonight. It’s on local geology. The title is something like Central Valley: from tectonic plates to vernal pools.
SOTD Cuir de Lancome, definitely going on the to-buy list.
Wore Guerlain’s Pamplelune with a dab of vetiver oil today, and this evening I’m in Eau Noire 🙂
SOTD is Zagorsk–I thought I’d finish the decant today, but it looks like I’ll get one more wear out of it. I’ll do an oud tomorrow (I only have 1 so it’s easy) and then probably back to Zagorsk on Saturday, so I can be done with the decant.
SOTD for the morning was Guerlain Bois d’Armenie b/c I needed something warm and wonderful, but had a LONG meeting so I wanted to be subtle. On the way home I revived myself with a small spritz of the original Donna Karan “Signature”. It is just so absolutely perfect for bitter cold weather. I only wear it a few times a year, but when I do, it’s just the right thing and it amazes me with how rich and complex it is. My favorite leather/suede ever.
Signature is lovely! It is like the softest suede imaginable, delicately scented with flowers.
Is this in the red topped rectangular bottle?
Today is a continuation of yesterday. I’m wearing PHI Une Rose de Kandahar on one wrist and Chergui on the other. Since I talked about how I thought the base of PHI smelled similar to Chergui, I decided to actually compare side-by-side today to see if I’m not just out of my mind. And after the rose stage passes, they are pretty similar, though maybe not quite as dead-ringer-y as I thought.
Also, the more I wear Phi, the more I like it.. I might need some more when my sample runs out.
PHI was love at first sniff for me. It reminded me of a Japanese scented eraser I had in the 5th grade.
Today, wore Bond No 9 Manhattan from a sample. I enjoyed it but it seemed fleeting on me. Didn’t smell much after 3 hours, though others might have thought differently.
For tomorrow, deciding between Creed’s Royal Oud or Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud layered over Lush Rose Jam shower gel and Ro’s Argan body conditioner. Oops, guess I’m combining this Friday and last Friday’s community project
SOTD a sample of smoke for the soil, just smokey eucalyptus really! Don’t hate it but I won’t be buying it!
Sorry that should be smoke for the soul! Autocorrect gets me every time
Lyric….purchased about 6 months ago… I smell rose and dried flowers… Some spice…. I had trouble smelling it at all when I got it…. Which was weird. All’s well that ends we/in Amouage…
Today I was scent free except for a silk scarf that had traces of LDDM on it. One of my sniffy clients gave it two thumbs up. To start off oud day early, I think I will put on some Lyric Woman. I’m pretty sure it’s the re formulation that was spoken about further up the blog thread. I get a lot of rose from it, but not till about a half hour in. Up till then, it’s a creamy complex beast that I find hard to pinpoint. I went through a bit of buyer’s regret with Lyric, a little paranoid that it was counterfeit because it didn’t seem to match descriptions in reviews. No matter, it’s still delicious.
Tomorrow I think I will wear Montale Black Oud, still giggling about the skull and crossbones that was hand drawn on the sample from a nst friend. Planning on wearing a dash of Rose Anonym tomorrow night, I think that one has a touch of Oud in the dry down.
I think I’ll do Black Oud, too. It’ll be fun to see just how much “personal space” my co-workers give me tomorrow.
Ha!
I wore Ormande Jayne’s Champaca yesterday and today.
My SOTD was Jacomo 08. The cardamom lasts for a long time, and I love it. l just just applied more because my husband and I are going out tonight — to a talk on local geology.
In the interim, I’m going to try crocheting while wearing the progressive lenses I just picked up. The eye doctor could not believe how well I took his suggestion of progressives. I seem to be only patient of his who is not in denial about their age 🙂
I love me some Jacomo 8. Fill in the blank:
You smell great
In Jacomo ___________!
🙂
