Clinique Aromatics in White ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 28 October 2014 37 Comments

Clinique Aromatics in White

Clinique will launch Aromatics in White, a new fresh floral fragrance for women. Aromatics in White is a flanker to 1971's Aromatics Elixir.

Aromatics in White was developed by perfumer Nicolas Beaulieu. The notes feature violet leaves, Sichuan pepper, rose, orange blossom, patchouli, musk, benzoin, amber and vanilla.

Clinque Aromatics in White will debut in November. I will update with sizes and concentration when I can.

(via parfumerie.nl,  womenonly.gr)

Update: Aromatics in White is available in 30, 50 and 100 ml.

Another update: Aromatics in White will be available in the US in 2015.

Fine if they must, but if they discontinue the original we must rebel!

Oh, gosh, I doubt it. But they do need a new modern fragrance, right? Happy can’t sustain them forever. Ironically.

I concur Wholeheartedly! They also need to Re-Release Wrappings… A Piquant Green Chypre from the late 70’s-80’s that was BLISSFUL Smelling. They have been dragging their feet with coming out with a New Fragrance as Much as Chanel has!

TheNose: Wrappings is released for the Holidays, usually on counter by 10/1, I’ve seen it in Bloomies and usually scoop up a gift set or two. They are usually priced at $45 US dollars for a .85 cologne spray and lotion set.

The Wrappings gift set is also currently available on Clinque’s website.

Wrappings was launched in 1990 so it’s not as old as I you think it is, TheNoseKnows. It is available all year round at Harrods. I adore it. :-)

They had a lovely and unique scent called Simply that came and went. It had a milky tea accord to it that was most intriguing.

Honestly, I would have thought this was a huge seller. I don’t see why they would put out special design bottles and gift sets most holidays, otherwise.

I assume it sells, but doubt it’s a blockbuster. Actually would assume it has a relatively small but devoted fan base, as does Wrappings.

Like many flankers, doesn’t seem to have much in common with the original, except for the patch note. More sweet, less earthy and herbal, it seems like. Sorta like the the bottle, sorta don’t. Maybe it’s the cap that’s got me not liking it. Don’t think I am a fan of white caps.

I also was thinking of a possible discontinuation, like perhaps the sales don’t nearly compare to that of Happy, idk.

I.e. White Patchouli, looks too nasal spray to me with that cap.

Obviously I have no idea, but would not expect them to be related at all.

I could never quite make Aromatics Elixir work for me – just a bit too much, even though I normally like big notes. I’d give this one a chance. Next gen AE?

Bit too much for me too. This sounds like it might end up being a bit too little, but we’ll see!

AnnS – AE comes in an eau de toilette for the European Market, it’s lighter and easier to wear – the heavy herbal/mossy notes are in the background.

I love and wear the original – and would love to try this; but I hope this isn’t as difficult to find as the Perfumer’s Reserve that came out a few years ago.
Trying to locate that was like finding the needle in a haystack!

SmokeyToes, I totally agree with the Perfumer’s Reserve. I happened upon a bottle on an auction site for a really good price and blind bought (I couldn’t bring myself to pay what samples were going for) and hoped I didn’t love it too much since I didn’t think I’d be able to find a backup. Wouldn’t you know it blew me away and I scoured the interwebs until I found a slightly more expensive bottle as a backup.

It is really gorgeous and I do wish they’d consider adding it to the line. Really, it is such a great take on the original Aromatics Elixir. Different enough that you could like it even if you don’t like the original, but a beautiful interpretation of it for those who love the regular AE.

Absolute Scentualist, is the Perfumer’s Reserve wonderful? I’ve never managed to smell it. I gave up after visiting 10 different counters and getting ‘the look’ from Clinique Sales Associates. :/

Perfumer’s Reserve is lovely, SmokeyToes. I can’t wear the original comfortably, but the Reserve is richer and less strident, somehow. I was able to get mine from the Clinique website.

SmokeyToes, Sharon beat me to it! Yes, it is heavier on the florals and not quite as much on the oakmoss, though it is certainly still there. The sillage is quieter, but still present, and I feel comfortable wearing it both for formal occasions as well as cool afternoons or evenings home. Let me know if you are able to find a sample. If not, I’d be happy to send one.

The perfumer’s reserve was very easy to find in Holland. I got my bottle shortly after the scent was released. The original is still my favourite but the PR is gorgeous as well.

    Robin,
I saw your comment above that Clinique needs a new modern fragrance after Happy.
Whatever happened to “Clinique Beyond Rose”? It was launched in Europe but not in the US.
Sounded like a good scent from its description.

That’s in pretty limited distribution and I think it’s expensive and geared towards the ME market. It won’t replace Happy…just from the name alone you know it isn’t going to be a huge bestseller and spawn a gajillion flankers :-)

BTW, did not mean this would replace Happy either! I just meant I thought they needed more new fragrances.

Both the name and juice sound pretty uninteresting, but considering how much I love the original, I’ll probably give it a sniff anyway. Maybe it will end up being like Black Orchid/Velvet Orchid where they’re still similar enough, only AE in White can be worn more places without trampling others with its sillage.

That would be nice. I’m sure I’ll try it, and I will try to reserve judgement until I do, but I’m not feeling the bottle or the name so don’t have high hopes for the juice.

I used to wear AE in the late seventies, early eighties as my fall/winter scent and really enjoyed it. Now when I try it, the dry down smells off to me. Have other people found that too? Has the original AE been reformulated (like so many other perfumes)? I will certainly give AIW a sniff when it’s available.

I never thought I’d see “Aromatics Elixir” and “fresh floral” in the same sentence.

Called and hounded my poor local Belk Clinique guy about it. He’d never heard of it but took my name and number in case it shows up. His district manager ? is supposed to visit soon and new stuff could be coming. I may end up getting a Calyx set in the meantime.

Checked back and he tried calling three tiers above his level to try and find out about it . Nothing. Maybe it’s going to be a very limited release ? UAE or Europe ?

I love this bottle, I wonder what this will be like, I must try it. Fresh floral is a bit odd especially if I look at the notes, it sounds more chypre like the original but we will see. I love how Clinique works on me, love that deep base, both them and the ones launched under Lauder are awesome, ok I only mean AE and Wrappings from Clinique not Happy. The original AE is amazing stuff, I also love and own Perfumer’s Reserve but Wrappings is probably the best on me, it turns deeply balsamic, dark floral with a bit of that fougere, nothing sharp. I need to get a new bottle as I almost ran out. It is definitely available here in Europe around the holidays. Fortunately as it is one of my favorites.

I read that this will be available here in the states this spring…2015. I called the Clinique company and they haven’t even heard of it yet! I’m hoping the women I spoke with wasn’t up to date on future products because I really want to buy this! Anyone know exactly when it will be here in the USA? Thanks!
