Tuesday scent of the day 12/30

Posted by Robin on 30 December 2014 79 Comments

Hermes Joplin Rond leather pendant

2014 is almost over! Meanwhile do tell us what fragrance you're wearing today.

I'm wearing Hermรจs Vetiver Tonka.

Reminder: on Friday 1/2 we'll be doing our quarterly damage poll! It will also be Go Big or Go Home Friday...and you can interpret that howsoever you please.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: shown is the Hermes Joplin Rond leather pendant, $485.

I have gone through several small bottles of the VT so should have bought a large one to begin with! But I may end up with another travel set before I’m done ๐Ÿ˜‰

SOTD is Stella Rose Absolue – soft and friendly. I’ll be in the car all day traveling, so I wanted to be cool about it. I’ve missed so many polls the past few weeks b/c of year end madness at work and holiday prep.

I hope everyone has a wonderful New Years and best wishes for lots of fabulous bottles and decants in 2015!!

I didn’t know there was an Absolue. How is it compared
to the original? Stella nude was the first perfume I chose as an ‘adult’. I still like it in the summer, or layered, or sprayed on sheets, but would love something richer.

I’ve missed a lot of polls too. *sigh* I so wanted to do the one after xmas, but I left the perfume I was gifted here and I was far away on vacation.

I am wearing Phenomene Verte from Parfums Lalun which is a lovely soft round green scent that I really like. This makes scent #272 that I’ve tried on skin this year. Of course, since my samples have been breeding, I still have over 300 samples to try!!!

Wearing vintage Shalimar EDT, this was indeed the trick! I do not care for the jumbled harshness that is the opening of the modern formula, but the vintage is smoother and plusher and sublime layered with vetiver EO.

The necklace is cute! I have hundreds of handmade beads that I had collected over the years that I NEED to do something with them. Beads may be the one item I have more of than perfume samples (please don’t yank my perfumista card!).

I’m wearing (reformulated) Arpege today, which seemed a safe quick pick given the brown and burgundy wool that I wrapped up in to face our cold cold day (in 24 hours it dropped from +3 to -13 Celsius!).

Tonight I have my 40th birthday party. I know I should say eeek! or something, but I feel pretty ok with the milestone. But I’m having a hard time deciding what to wear, both clothes and perfume. I tend to over-dress, and often end up feeling like I arrived at the wrong event…. Yet if you can’t go all-out for a big birthday, when can you, right?

Trying out my sample of SL L’Incendiaire (starting early on ‘Go big or go home’). At the moment the amount of smoke is making me giggle… waiting for my husband the firefighter to drift thru the room and ask me what’s burning. :^) Gotta say it’s quite nice so far. Commando so far. Had a 8 am dentist appointment, ran errands, and now working on the Great Closet Purge of ’14. The fiancรฉ and I are looking for a house and I don’t want to drag a bunch of crap to it when we find the right one.

I’ve missed so many great polls! Argh! I was given a FB of Coco for xmas by the fiancรฉ’s fam and then left the bottle here (Philly) b/c I felt it was too much for the heat of Florida while I was away. I’m glad I took a bunch of lighter scents (Jour d’Hermes to the rescue) with me. Of course we come back to rain and cold so now I’m ready for all my dark, heavy scents again as we head into winter.

Hope everyone is having enjoyable holidays!

Hey, I’m doing the closet-cleaning project as well! Mr. Spicebomb and are “under negotiations” for him to move in with me. But my little house was built in the very-little-closet-space era. So, I’m trying to figure out what will survive under the eaves or in the crawlspace or just needs to go to Goodwill. . . There’s no way around it, we’re gonna be cramped!

We live together in a barely-over-400 square foot apartment right now. Over half of his stuff is still at his parent’s house in the ‘burbs so he basically lives minimalist style with what room I can spare for him here. He got a new job recently and I bought him a hanging shoe rack for his nice shoes b/c they were all over the floor!

I totally get your trouble with closet space. Some of the houses we’ll be looking at next weekend have walk-ins! *fingers crossed one of them is decent enough to buy*

At work in a mostly empty office, wishing I was at home. SOTD is FM Eau d’Hiver. I chose it to match the snowy weather, and also to compare it with Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche which I tried for the first time yesterday in the Detroit airport. It was a wonderful surprise in an otherwise uneventful couple hours ๐Ÿ™‚

A coworker gave me a bottle of Mauboussin – her signature fragrance – because I always compliment her on it. It smells more subdued on me, but that’s likely because I don’t drench myself as she does :).

    SOTD = Guerlain Cuirass Beluga

I’m also in the great closet (house / stuff) purge mode. I have my nephew helping me with all sorts of Guy Friday kinds of things although he clearly did not understand the meaning of it since I called him that on a Sunday and he looked perplexed. So far, we’ve brought almost 300 books to the library and I still have 3 more boxes to look through plus a few assorted nooks and crannies. Mind you, I am holding some back as there are just some books I cannot part with!

As for this Friday’s community project, I want to wear Opium but my scent-phobe family will object so I will be nice to them and think of something else.

That’s a LOT of books to take to the library! I used to hoard all my books, but then I fell into the e-reader trap and now I so much prefer it to books. I did keep some of them though for sentimental value, but I’m amazed I managed to give 2/3 of my collection away.

Opium would be the best perfume to wear for Friday, I think. Can you just dab a little on or would the fam be up in arms about that?

Maybe it would be better in the summer time. Right now it is cold in Michigan, and the Vanilla Bourbon Intense I wore yesterday was much better. Very cold today but dry, lots of bright sunshine and clear blue skies โ€“ my favorite kind of winter day. Relishing a quiet introspective day as the next few will be crowded, busy and noisy. My scent to match the day and my mood: Barbara Bui Le Parfum layered over BBWโ€™s Cashmere Glow lotion. A bit of spice and incense in my favorite winter skin scent enlivens the cozy warmth of vanilla and a touch of amber โ€“ just perfect but still the essence of softness.

SOTAfternoon, Orange Star, from my just-arrived Tauer Explorer set–Yes, I won one of the Advent draws!!! I feel like I got a second Christmas! I can’t believe it arrived so quickly from Zurich–I was notified just before Christmas.

The other two scents I requested were Reverie Au Jardin and L’Air du Desert Marocain. I had to decide if I would get back-ups of scents I already knew and loved or to try something new. I settled on new. I went to Our Lady and did some sniffing and settled on these three–and the Explorer Set is 15mL of each, which seems like such a treat!

Funny thing, though, as I was sniffing, I’d placed a dab of several on my hands/arms. One of them was Le Maroc Pour Elle, which has a top-note that was just awful! Nearly a scrubber. But then, maybe half an hour later, as I was doing other shopping, I’d dutifully kept sniffing, and it transformed into this lovely, sweet floral! It really took me by surprise! Too bad the start is so terrible to my nose.

SotD is Vanille Galante. Robin’s Monday Scent of the Day here on NST reminded me to try it again. I like it even more than I did a few weeks ago.

It is a nice surprise that I like VG so much. Based on the notes listed I would not have thought it would work for me. I’ve also sampled Osmanthe Yunnan and Rose Ikebana recently and while thinking their notes sounded absolutely perfect, it turns out I don’t like them anywhere near as much as I thought I would.
