Monday scent of the day 12/29

Posted by Robin on 29 December 2014 123 Comments

Hermès Assam Fusion stackable bracelet

Surprise, it's another Monday! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Hermès Vanille Galante.

Reminder: Friday 1/2 is Go Big or Go Home Friday! You can interpret that howsoever you please.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: shown is the Hermès Assam Fusion stackable bracelet, $295.

Jealous of your Vanille Galante. That one really grew on me.

I’m moving today, sadly. Wearing Mitsouko edp to give me strength. 🙂

I’m headed to NYC this week and it will be my first time there on a non-business visit – meaning the days are stretched before me! I’m going to Aedes day one to try their house line, which I have yet to smell (nor have I been to the shop). I’m so excited!

Not really smoky, Robin. Definitely not the heavy lapsang souchong type of smoke some tea frags have. I get mainly a beautiful tea and woods with a touch of mint 🙂

A kind Christmas elf left me a bottle of Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady as a gift, so I have been wearing that.

It was an unsniffed present, but as it ticked all the right boxes (rose, patchouli, incense), I guessed I might like it. And I was right!

    Incredibly tenacious, too.

CSP Vanille Amande, one of the few scents on the face of the earth that the husband can tolerate. Not too sweet, not particularly confectionery, just this warm sugared-almond glow. One of the best things they ever made: how could they have discontinued it? I have a huge 150-mL canister of it: unless it goes rank, that should be many more years’ worth.

Oh, don’t worry… actually you’re going out “naked.” 🙂 That is, the way many Southerners understand that term, if you have no clothes (scent) on, you are naked. If you have no clothes on and you are Up To Something, you are “nekkid.”

I’m in Hermes too – 24, Faubourg. I hear there’s a winter storm on its way to us here in Oregon (and my stupid daffodils are coming up already … which they do every year despite my nagging them about jumping the gun), so I thought I’d try to get ahead of the icy blast with something warm and bright.

In Eau de Camille today. It seemed so right, what with the sun beaming in through the bedroom window as I dressed this morning. I just knew it was going to be a warm, sunny day. Now, not so much. The sun has disappeared (and so has my resolve to walk on my lunch hour to start whittling away the FOUR pounds I gained over the holidays. ). Wait. I just checked the temperature. It’s 78 degrees. Okay, maybe I will walk. Maybe. Or, maybe I’ll just sit here and smell good to myself.

DK Black Cashmere, since it’s my new Christmas toy. The sample I had was the old version, and this is the new version, so I’m seeing some differences in the formula (mostly strength), and possibly a few more from finally having a spray bottle. In any case, I’m enjoying both the familiar and the unfamiliar. I miss some of the strength, but I’m more inclined to think I can get away with this in the summer now.

SOTD DSH’s Vanilla Bourbon Intense. I got this as an extra sample when I ordered Scent of Hope, and I love this one! Comforting with all the vanilla, strength with the little boozy masculine opening and the on going woodiness – I am going to end up buying both of these (because of course, Scent of Hope just grows and grows on me. I read someone else’s comment that now that she has this, she doesn’t want to wear anything else! I think I will get both of these and just alternate back and forth….)

I tend to love Guerlain scents, but I have not come across this one, so I can’t give you a comparison. It sounds very intriguing! I am going to put it on my samples to acquire list.
The boozy aspect of DSH’s VBI (love the initials…) lasts a little longer than I would have expected – 2-3 hours before it fades away, and the incense starts to come on.

I put this at 6:00 this morning, and now, 8 hours later, I have vanilla with incense under it, pretty close to skin, but definitely there.

Today I’m using up the last of my sample of TF Jonquille de Nuit, which I absolutely adore. I don’t understand why this one doesn’t get more love…. The juxtaposition of the cool, hyacinth top note merging with the snuggly, musky base is heaven for me. I wonder if Kevin has tried this one?

It’s gotten really cold here so I went with Amouage Memoir which works best for me in the frosty weather. Turns out it works pretty well on slightly hellish days too!

I’m a bit under the weather so I’m in Comme des Garçons, Monocle Scent Two Laurel, which fits the bill.

BK Rose Oud. I was trying a sample of SoOud Fam last night, but it was a bit boring, so I got out the Rose Oud.

I am wearing AA Flora Nerolia, which is one of my favorite AAs with plenty of orange blossom and jasmine (both fairly clean) on a bed of incense.

Going retro, as I often do, in Ho Hang Club by Balenciaga (reformulated version unfortunately)
The head notes are all wrong, smelling like Pez candy, but the dry down is quite similar to that of my vintage bottle in a wrist-to-wrist comparison.

SOTD is Lalique Encre Noire. This stuff is really good any time. I like to spray lavishly so that I get the nutty aspects of vetiver too 😉

The weather is pretty mild today, and has been for a while. Everyone seems happy about it but I just want it to get cold and be winter! I like sweaters and scarves and coats and cozy perfumes and it just isn’t cold enough!

Oh, me too. The CEO (currently at home during the university’s winter break) keeps looking out the window at cows eating grass and sighing happily that he doesn’t have to be outside feeding them, but I want my chilly weather back.

Oh, and vanille galante is wonderful! I recently went through all my Hermessence samples and that came out near the top. I am trying to narrow it down, so next time I’m flying international I can get the gift set … I remember there being more choices there.

Oeillet Bengale for me today – there’s just something calming about incense. This one is really nice. Not that I’m ready to spring for a full bottle of it, but I am certainly enjoying the sample.

I’m wearing Sonoma Scent Studio Rose Musc with a little Yves Rocher Vanilla Noir over the top. It’s lovely. And in a while, I’m off to Lush to stock up on Rose Jam shower gel since it’s on sale and I’m addicted. It will be nice to get out and have a break from company (as far as they know we’re running some errands, which we are technically) while a friend watches the kids for a bit and holds down the fort while we’re out. Still no luck tracking down a bottle of Lust, yet, but I’m determined. 🙂

Une Fleur de Cassie today. I have to be in the right mood for this, but when I am, nothing else will do.

I have some bulbs coming up in a planter (I’m new to this house so I have no idea what they are). I had cleaned out the blown-in leaves last weekend. Looks like I’ll have to find something else for mulch lest the below-freezing temps coming kill them.

Working on the apt the last few days – New Years is when I do my “spring cleaning”. Today I worked on my bedroom and therefore the overflow of samples and decants. Although things are nice and organized now, the place reeks and my husband claims he can’t breath, lol!
Of course I had to sniff a few here and there 😉
I also have a nice grab bag of samples to give at our next freebie meet.

SOTD: I have no idea at this point 🙂

I’m in Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt layered with Nectarine Blossom & Honey. Just drained my Wood Sage sample which is timely because I used a Nordstrom Note to treat myself to a FB (the little one). This combo just makes me smile. Nectarine Blossom & Honey reads a little to “bright” on me by itself, but I love it mixed.

A friend diffidently passed along a 20-year-old bottle of Chanel No. 5 parfum, afraid that such an “old” gift was no gift at all, but I thought it was really generous of her. It was still in the cellophane wrapper, and I had to do the freezer visit to get the stopper out, but it seems quite unspoiled. Will think of her when I wear it, and the wee bottle is completely adorable.

A bit under the weather, have laryngitis on the tail end of whatever upper respiratory flu has swept South Eastern Virginia. Going commando today but burning a gorgeous patchouli candle my Mom sent me for Christmas. While ill, I have been mostly wearing Chanel No 5, since it one of my favorite comfort scents. Received Kerosene Black Vines from my Santa, it is just too exuberently licorice for right now, plus my sniffer is undoubtly a bit off! Looking forward to truly smelling it! I wish good health and recovery to you all, my sisters and brothers in scent!

Tested Diptyque Geranium Odeur (spelling wrong perhaps). It immediately made me smile – so bright and happy and… Delightfully weird. I don’t know how often I would wear it but definitely want to try it in warmer weather!
