Happy Tuesday, and Happy Hanukkah to everyone who will start celebrating tonight. What fragrance are you wearing today?
I'm wearing Atelier Cologne Sous le toit de Paris.
Reminder: this Friday, 12/19, is De-stress Friday...as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
In desperate need of some lavender I put on some of my sample of A Taste of Heaven. It’s gorgeous, but you have to like lavender, and I do.
I do like lavender…didn’t used to, but I do now. Still, admit I have never been in desperate need! Which is fine, I have enough notes I am desperate about π
like iris and vetiver perhaps π
Among others!
New Look 1947. What a pretty creamy floral.
That one really is pretty. Wish there was more oomph in the dry down.
It’s pretty soft — I have a mini but I want to dump into a spray atomizer so I can see how it feels that way.
It is lovely from an atomizer! I started with a dabber sample and ended up getting a small decant. It’s really nice. I was disappointed in this one at first because I expected, as Robin said, “more oomph,” but I found myself reaching for it all of the time, and have found it to be a perfect, creamy floral for winter.
SOTD is Tom Ford Violet Blonde. My husband has tracked me down twice already, just to inhale deeply. π
Oh, nice!
Cute.
Definitely a great effect…
Your husband has a good taste! π
I get complimented on Violet Blonde much more often than on most other perfumes I wear.
I never see this one in store anymore. Has it been discontinued already?!
SOTD is Uomo (Carthusia). Got some samples last week and I am really enjoying them. This smells similar to something else I already have, but I can’t remember what that is…
Bought a bottle of Corallium, and while I am enjoying it in the cooler weather, will want to see how it behaves in warmer weather.
Happy Holidays!
Did you get Capri Forget Me Not? That’s the one I still need to try.
No, not even sure that was available where I picked up Corallium. I did score samples of Uomo, Numero Uno and Mediterraneo. Will look for it the next time I visit the shop.
SOTD is Womanity. Gorgeous in the morning, a bit annoying atm.
The salt note can become tinny at times. What would work for layering?
For me, nothing! Finished the sample quite decided and would not go for a FB.
Womanity Eau Pour Elles works much better actually, the strawberry note is nice. I am not a fan of fruity fragrances and it’s only an EDT but on me it has none of the disadvantages of the main EDP. Give it a try.
Soivohle Calcutta from an old sample. This is just about perfect on me– too bad it’s not in the current lineup. It’s dense and spicy and there’s something exotic in there– pandanus maybe?
I have *no* idea what pandanus smells like!
It’s a leaf with definite floral tones–I used to get pandanus wrapped chicken bites at a Malaysian restaurant in Boston which is why I was thinking pandanus. Not sure it is even available as an essential oil but I know some of her scents have mentioned that she has done her own macerations
I’ve seen it as an absolute online (Liberty Natural sells it as an absolute and an attar, listed as Kewra).. it tends to be a pricey one, so I’ve never actually bought any.
Oops, correction.. it’s an essential oil, not an absolute.
I might have to get some once my finances are flowing again. It is good to have reference essential oils
I completely missed Dior Friday, so I might make up for it by wearing Eau Noire today. I’m not usually a fan of lavender on my skin, but the licorice, coffee and vanilla mixed in with it make it weirdly delicious.
I just ordered a small sample of this, it sounds right up my alley! π
It starts out very herbal, then runs headlong into a strange mix of the medicinal and the gourmand. The coffee, licorice and vanilla make it seems almost caramel-like, which is the part that really works for me. Hope you like it!
Hello, all, and Happy Hanukkah for tonight! π
I am debating on a SOTD because I have a first date tonight that I’m pretty excited for, and will happily take input! Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille? Or Coromandel? I’m back and forth on whether Coromandel is too much when I don’t know if someone likes perfume or not. I feel like I’m still working my way up to professional perfume-wearing confidence levels sometimes π
I do like both for their respective coziness factors. And the fact that both are very unlikely to have any scent memories of exes for him – all hail niche and exclusifs lines! ;D
Gosh, who knew perfume would become more of a concern than my outfits one day, but here I am π
I would go with SL Un Bois vanille, i find it is more safe for a first date
I haven’t tried Un Bois Vanille, but I love Coromandel and would be brazen and go for it. Or maybe put Coromandel on early so the lush dry down is going on for the date. But if UBV is lighter and still makes you feel wonderful, then by all means go with that π Either way, I’m sure you’ll smell wonderful.
Good luck on your date!
Both such wonderful choices, but I would probably also go with Un Bois Vanille. So cozy, it will make you want to snuggle! π
It doesn’t matter for a first date whether they like perfume– wear whatever _you_ will feel better in. After all, if the perfume makes you feel great then that confidence will project and you’ll hopefully come across as wonderful
Plus, if he gets a whiff and makes a stink about it, that might be a good way to determine if he’s second date material.
If he loves it or is polite about it not being for him, that could be a good sign π
Thats what i was thinking. Its a good test π
Heartily seconded!
I think Coromandel can skew slightly masculine, and so you may wish to consider which scent image you want to project.
Someone might like perfume, but not like all of them. You might want to under-apply whatever you wear so that you are the center of attention and not your perfume.
Anyway, I hope that you have fun!
Late to the game, but many surveys/studies seem to suggest most men like the smell of vanilla….
Wear the one that you like the most. And do not listen to “under-applying” suggestions: apply it exactly how you would to the same type of a meeting but with your girl friend. I don’t think it’s worth starting a relationship where you have to think of him first. If the “wrong” perfume makes him not like you, why would you care for what he thinks in general? Do not start compromising before you even have relationships to compromise for.
Ditto!
Yes!
Today I’m wearing Rose Anonyme, and I’m debating which of the two sets of minis to buy from Sephora. The small two mini set for $18.00 includes Orange Sanguine, which everyone raves about. It also contains Vanille Insensee, and I’m not fond of vanilla. The other one costs more per mini at $50.00 for five but it also has CΓ©drat Enivrant and Vetiver Fatal. Of course it also has Rose Anonyme, and I already have a mini of that. Any recommendations?
I do love Vetiver Fatale! Have you smelled them all, or is this more of a blind buy situation?
TOTALLY not helping here, but have you considered the Discovery Set from Atelier Cologne’s website? $25 US including shipping, 2ml each of all 17 scents. Someone on here (sorry, can’t remember who!) pointed me towards it and it was AMAZING for the price.
I started with the Orange/Vanille mini duo, went to a set of 7 travel sprays, then the discovery set, then finally bought a 100ml of Vetiver Fatale even though I haven’t finished picking through the samples. Love this line π
This is a blind buy situation, and your suggestion of the Discovery Set is great. I didn’t even think about it, but it certainly will give me a chance to try so that I can purchase larger bottles later. I do tend to gravitate toward minis, rather than sample sizes, but having all the scents for that price is a more cost effective way to try them. Thanks!
OK, you guys have been bad for my wallet. Having gone ahead and ordered the Atelier discovery set, I also decided to order the L’Artisan discovery set.
Well, enjoy your new sets PriscillaE! I was also unable to resist the lure of the Atelier discovery set (what a great deal and no shipping!) and just placed my order. I have loved the few Ateliers that I have tried so far, so I am very excited to have the chance to test them all.
Vanille Insensee is not a creamy custardy vanilla. It is sharper and more like the smell of actually scraping the inside of a fresh (not dried out vanilla bean). So you may like it even if you do not like other vanillas. I know I do.
I’m not a huge vanilla fan, but I do really like Vanille Insensee. It’s so comforting and not cloyingly sweet.
Cedrat and Veitiver are both wonderful though and may be easier to wear than VI if you’re not keen on vanilla.
I had bought a FB of Vanille Insensee but it gave me headaches so I gave it away. It’s an unusual vanille and when I was in the Atelier shop he sold it as a “non-vanille, vanille”
It’s definitely vanille, but the additional notes give it an interesting twist.
SOTD is Rochas Femme, thanks to a fellow NSTer for sending me a sample! I really like it, makes me feel so elegant and pulled together π
I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I just almost wore it today too. π
Yesterday, I had an unexpectedly long day at work and the rest of the week will probably be the same, so I’m tired and cranky (and also not in the mood to stop being cranky yet). I don’t really have a fragrance for that particular mood, so I’m wearing Neela Vermeire Mohur…lots of it, and it’s beautiful.
Boo, long work weeks are so draining. At least you smell divine π
Crank on!
Be cranky and enjoy your Mohur. Sometimes you just need to be grumpy before you can be not grumpy anymore!
I know exactly how you feel… being cranky and just not ready to not be cranky. I hear ya! Harrumph!
Yes! Curmudgeons Unite! π
I’m wearing a sample of gucci guilty black.
Bottega Veneta!
That was my treat yesterday!
I am wearing CD Addict today, this has become one of my favorites for cold weather.
Sampling Tobacco Rose by Papillon Artisan Perfumers today and it’s all rose, rose, rose. I like rose, but it’s a little too much of a soliflore for my taste. Although I just wondered if this might smell incredible layered with Anubis from the same brand. Hmmmm….. may have to try that soon.
I’m testing my new sample of Serge Lutens Rose de Nuit for the first time – wow this stuff smells great. A bit darker than La Fille de Berlin, which is one of my favorite roses.
Sous le toit de Paris is one of my favorites – you smell fabulous, Robin!
I’m channeling the tropics today with Juste un Reve by PdN. I love this one and asked Santa to please, please bring me a bottle for Christmas. I see a box under the tree that just might be it!
π
Thank you, and hope you get your bottle!
I’m wearing ELdO Vraie Blonde today. I hadn’t worn it in quite a while, but I felt like wearing something sparkly today, and this fits the bill.
MDCI Promesse de l’Aube today, for that sort-of-chypre vibe, though I also get loads of vanilla. Today I rake the last of the leaves in the yard, the trees are bare now. I think they’re pretty.
La Promesse is heartbreakingly beautiful!
Today is the first day I’ve really worn perfume in two weeks because of my cold, and man have I missed it. I put on Le Temps D’Une Fete, because it’s spring-y enough to make me happy in the cold gloom, but cozy enough to keep me warm.
I’ve been known to wear LTd’F year round. π
When I first started using it, I thought, “Oh, this is definitely a spring perfume.” But it is not. It’s beautiful all year and has become one of my staples!
I am continuing my week of de-stress with a lovely dose of SL Jeux de Peau.
What a good choice! Thank you for the idea – I might wear this one for Friday’s project.
Love your lovely Sous le Toit, Robin! Very cold and frost here this morning and Dries van Noten was perfect for it.
Ah, we both smell great π
In the spirit of the season, I’m enjoying Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Winter Delice while decorating our Christmas tree.
Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate!
Ooh, I love that one. I have to dig out my decant.
Bottega Veneta. I wanted something that feels cool and calm and this fits nicely.
Bronze Goddess, vacation in a bottle!
If you’re someplace cold, how’s it holding up? I keep eyeing my bottle, but can’t seem to commit to it in this weather.
Is 52F here, so not terribly cold. Holding up nicely, i did 3 sprays (belly, low back and inside elbows).
Go for it!
In my mind Bronze Goddess is such a tropical vacation scent that I can’t even imagine wearing it while it below 80F π
Indeed. It certainly doesn’t warm me up, but it does take me away from the gray skies and office cube, if only in spirit! (Then again, that’s how i wear bikinis nowadays: in spirit only!)
Tomorrow will be something comfy cozy and warm.
I’m in Safran Troublant, which is so cozy on a grey, rainy morning.
Speaking of L’Artisan – did anyone get anything fun from the Haute Look sale? I was sorely tempted by the $60 bottle of Seville a l’Aube, but I refrained. Yay? : /
I got some L’Artisan candles (Traversee du Bosphore, The et Pain D’espices, and Rose des Indes) that I am very excited about. But I hadn’t sampled any of the perfumes that were available, and they apparently weren’t on my blind buy list so I didn’t buy any. I say apparently because I didn’t realize that I actually have a blind buy list in my head until yesterday …
So what is on your blind buy list?
It has to be (1) something that I can’t sample easily – i.e., not at the a Sephora or smaller Nordstroms in town, and (2) a good (reduced) price. If I can only get it at full price, then I buy a sample first. Of course, what constitutes a good price depends on the original price, my mood, what particular note I am into at the time, etc. It’s very changable π
My list is: from Serge Lutens: Un Bois Vanille, Feminite du Bois, Fluers d’Oranger, Chergui, and Clair de Musc. From L’Artisan: Safran Troublant, Patchouli Patch, Premier Figuier, Passage d’Enfer. From ELDO: Rien, Delicious Closet Queen, Noel au Balcon, Vrai Blonde, and Fils de Dieu.
Based on comments here and other reviews: Jean Charles Brousseau The Brun, Masque Milano Russian Tea, Dior Cuir Cannage, Parfums d’Empire Cuir Ottoman and Ambre Russe …
I generally stay away from notes that can be difficult for me (ylang ylang, ginger, mint, licorice, lily). I like jasmine, tuberose, and gardenia but I am picky about them so I am more hesitant to blind buy. I almost always like leather, amber, rose, iris, bergamont, galbanum, spice, and incense.
As you can see, I have a bad case of The Wants!
Oh, and CdG incense series – any of them!
I sprung for the bottle of Seville a l’Aube! π It just arrived yesterday. Yay!
Good for you – enjoy! One of the ways the little devil on my shoulder tried to tempt me was by saying “you could keep it boxed in a closet until split time…” I really have to be firm against myself…
Last night’s rain has given way to chilly, windy sunshine. I have one kid home sick with a stomach bug (I’m praying I won’t get it, but I bet I will!), one with a high school band concert this evening, and the oldest on a train now, making her way home from college for winter break.
The community chorus’ Messiah performance went well, the dog is responding well to the Invisible Fence, and The CEO is going to go get our tree later.
SOTD is Memoir Woman. Mmmm.
Sounds like quite a lot of activity there (or circus, depending on view point ;)).
You smell great!
Memoir Woman here as well.
Fight the bug! Don’t get it! It’s not an airborne disease – and that means you can NOT get it.
True, not airborne… but since I’m the one cleaning up the bathroom after it’s been, ahem, used… I fear I’m doomed. When I called him in sick at the middle school today, the secretary told me it’s cutting a wide swath through students and teachers alike.
NO SICK. I don’t want to be sick! I’m being hypervigilant on people washing their hands in this house!
Mals, I understand. I’m just rooting for you.
Wearing POTL today, which I should have saved for de-stress Friday, as it always has a good effect on me. Might need to wear it again on Friday.
What is POTL? People of the Labyrinths?
Happy Tuesday everyone ! My SOTD is Wild Fig & Casis by Jo Malone. I was in a “fig “kinda mood today. The people sitting next to me in my Counselors meeting have complimented me on how good I smell. Score!
Wild Fig and Casis is one of my (many) favorites from Jo Malone. My bottle if almost empty (which doesn’t happen to me too often nowadays).
Wearing AG Nuit Etoilee since I mentioned it on Angela’s holiday post yesterday. I smell sweet and piney!
I can’t figure out good time to wear Nuit Etoilee: it’s too sweet for summer and too minty for cold weather… But I love my bottle π
Today i wore Mito Voile d’extrait from the bottle i just bought, and im so deliriously happy with it! I dont often ‘do’ galbanum, but the fiercely green opening is totally forgiven as it heralds the arrival of the beeyoootiful tuberose, and a peachiness that reminds me of the nectarine in Yvresse. Worth every cent.
Just in bed now (at 2am) after a long shift and have anointed myself with Vanille Tonka (another chrissy present for moi) for sweet dreams π
to me, Mito is summer in the bottle π
I’m wearing Dzing for a chilly, rainy day. I still have not managed to try Sous le toit de Paris!
I haven’t worn anything today, as I was in a rush in the morning and completely forgot about perfume, but sprayed on Anne Pliska a couple of minutes ago.
Also, I really like your choice of juice today – Sous le Toit – I was thinking about a full bottle of this, though the price is a bit over the top…it’s a pity they don’t offer the small bottle of this one
Cozy Coromandel today. Lovely stuff, I wish it were available in 10-15ml bottles.
Yum!
I agree! Coromandel should come in smaller bottles! Some of Chanel’s Exclusiffs require bathing in them but Coromandel is so potent that I can’t imagine going through the 75 (?) ml bottle of it. That’s why I use it from a decant I bought in a split.
Wearing a little dab from the Tauer Rose Chypree sample that came with my PHI shipment and it’s billowing out into a real old school powder bomb on me. Strange thing is that the sillage has wisps of that TDC Rose Poivree pepper vinegar goodness. It’s a little too Gloria Swanson meets big Hollywood golden era powderpuff in the face for me today. Will wash it off before the afternoon client.
Shame to wash that one off…I think that’s one of the most exquisite fragrances I’ve ever smelled. I’m not even sure how much luck you’d have scrubbing. It’s powerful!
Today I am wearing Marni Rose (which is acceptable for the office–at least no one has complained about it).
I REALLY want to try Sous le toit de Paris – I’m hoping the Atelier sample set finds its way under my Christmas tree this year. π It’s 2:43 and I’m just not applying some perfume – today I’m trying Olympic Orchids Love. I really loved the warm opening – but now I’m getting anise/black licorice and that’s not pleasant for me… hopefully it’ll pass…
Drained my sample of RM’s “Very Private” for Bergdorf Goodman. I must be anosmic to several of the ingredients, because I slathered my arm in the juice and still only get wisps of fragrance—mostly ozonic lilac, and something like wet pavement. Not unpleasant, but totally unmemorable.
Am now in Rozy edp to go meet up with my ex. He’ll probably be wearing Puredistance M– he bought it the last time he visited NY and he knows that I think it’s the sexiest scent ever on him
Is it beyond nosy of me to ask for an update later? π
Since I am still at work this week and unable to drink grog on the job, I am wearing the boozy Bois de Paradis.
Grog is specifically prohibited? Spiked eggnog or mulled wine instead?
Oh, mmm, one of my all-time top choices. This reminds me to get it out of its box and put some on.
I’ve been a pretty boring perfumista these past 2 weeks…relying solely on Calyx to refresh my summer days! This evening though I’m literally basking in Amouage Sunshine!Lovely Summer fragrance, with just enough vanilla to satisfy that current craving. The packaging of Sunshine is perfect,by the way!
Teo Cabanel Alahine for me today – it is not as strong as I remembered it, the sillage is quite modest.
I wore it a couple of days ago and had the same thought… Maybe we just got used to smelling perfumes?
Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate!
Wearing Memoir Woman today. For me on me it smells nothing like anything I read about it but it doesn’t really matter how others describe the perfume you enjoy to wear, does it?
Happy Chanukah everyone!!!!
SotD: I am wearing Lolita Lempicka EDP (purple apple bottle). It is such a fun and quirky, yet sophisticated perfume. A great one to wear to celebrate such a joyous holiday.
Le Parfum de Therese–I had forgotten how truly exquisite this marvelous scent is.
Wearing Bois Blonds. I like it, but don’t love it. Will happily finish my mini, and not think about this scent again.
I wore Encre Noire and received several compliments (so one for them); later after that faded, I applied PdN Maharanih Intense, a single spray on my neck, to get me through a beautiful late fall evening (so one for me).
Tok’yo Mama Fizz by Smell Bent; really lovely yuzu (I think) and effervescence, perfect for the hot weather here in Australia.
Word is that the new Sephora on Robson in Vancouver has an Atelier embossing station!
