Monday scent of the day 12/15

Posted by Robin on 15 December 2014 111 Comments

Atelier Cologne still life for Mistral Patchouli

Another Monday rolls around...what fragrance are you wearing today?

I'm commando at the moment, but my sweater still smells like last night's Atelier Cologne Mistral Patchouli. Meanwhile, my internet connection has been up and down all morning. If I disappear, you'll know why.

Reminder: this Friday, 12/19, is De-stress Friday...as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD is 24 Faubourg, which was a blind buy, based on all of the positive comments from NST commenters. I bought a mini of the edp. This is my second Hermes mini bought because of comments on NST, and I love both. Next I think I’m going to try an mini of one of the Jardin scents.

Do they make minis? How adorable! I second Robin- Sur le Nil is the best! (then, imo, la mousson, med, sur le toit..) :)

I know I’ve seen travel sizes, maybe not quite minis – right now they have a few different sets with travel sizes. I also found Kelly Caleche and sur le Nil on ebay.

^I did too – KC edp and sur le Nil, cute little 15ml bottles. Think I paid $28 for the KC, can’t remember about the Nil.

Just to weigh in, Med’s my favorite, but Nil is a close second!

Oh but actually, have you seen this set yet, mentioned in a few of the gift posts? http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/hermes-miniatures-set/3931111?cm_cat=datafeed&cm_ite=hermes_miniatures_set:1027142&cm_pla=women:fragrance:perfume&cm_ven=Google_Product_Ads_pla_multichannel_online&mr:referralID=2ded58dd-847f-11e4-ac6c-001b2166c2c0

It has Nil, Voyage, Jour Absolu and Eau des Merveilles, which is almost can’t-miss across the board. Actually, I think Hermes is wonderful that way–it’s become my go-to rec for friends who want something nice but don’t want to spend more than one outing picking it out. Pretty hard to go wrong at the Hermes counter!

This miniatures set was a present to myself and it is the cutest thing. I though I didn’t really like Jardin Sur Le Nil, but it’s pretty nice dabbed.

And a headsup for those who missed it last time, L’Artisan will be on Hautelook again today. Penhaligon’s on Wednesday.

You are truly my #1 enabler. Come to me, travel set! It really is a crazy deal–basically the same price for 4 x 7.5ml as a single 8ml decant of Nuit de Tubereuse, just to pick an example.

        Thank you!!

Haha. I promise I don’t work for Hautelook. I just patrol the site looking for the next Diptyque sale. And that travel set was already a good deal at regular price so why not.

There have been Diptyque sales on Hautelook?!?!?! WAAAAAAAAH. I’m so glad I’m getting the emails now. Also, my bottle of Seville came today (from the last Hautelook sale). So excited!

          • Jonas says:
            15 December 2014 at 3:27 pm

Yes. They seem to have at least two Diptyque sales each year. In August I got a 100 ml bottle of L’Eau Trois at sixty percent off. Their best sale was two years back when I guess they were clearing out the old square bottles. They basically had the entire line of edts in both sizes at half price.

Wow – those are great deals! I’ll definitely keep an eye out – for whatever reason the Diptyques seem to suit me quite well. Thanks for the heads up Jonas!

I wear Esprit d’Oscar in Spring and Summer often layered witha coconut and jasmine lotion. I had not considered this fragrance for cooler months. I usually wear Fracas in the Winter if I am craving a white floral. Thank you for the inspiration and you smell fabulous!

Cuir Ottoman! Wore it to bed last night as it’s very chilly down here and I was determined to avoid turning the heat on, so it was just Cuir Ottoman, the electric blanket, and the dog to keep me warm last night.

Refreshed my perfume this morning and I am predicting a fabulous day today- sunny blue skies and a cool breeze make for a heavenly holiday time day.

    Happy Monday to all :)

Scent twin! Some days I just need that thick, orchidaceous darkness and this is one of those days (although I actually wear its close relative Tom Ford Black Orchid more often because I love that vanilla base).

To my nose they’re quite similar: there are differences but they’re unquestionably siblings. Nu is more floral and has more incense: Black Orchid is darker (with an earthy black-truffle note) and has a ravishing vanilla base, second only to Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille in beauty. Otherwise, I think if you like one, you’ll like the other. Sample first!

I love Nu in its hockey puck bottle, got it for a steal at TJ Maxx when it was being d/c. One of my greatest fragrance regrets is passing up the Nu body creme that was available there at the same time, I’ll bet it was delish!

I loved both of her Cromwell books! Looking forward to A Place of Greater Safety. . . once I finish the pile on my shelf… I don’t read fiction very often, but Mantel is so much fun. Am taking a break from some heavy Middle East history with Andy Weir’s The Martian… light and irreverent, if you enjoy scifi.

Wearing Serge Lutens Gris Clair for the calming effect that lavender does seem to have. Putting my baby girl(23 years old)on the plane tomorrow for 21 days in France. SOTD is Santa Maria Novella Marescialla. Whever I wear this, I’m reminded of our trip to Italy last summer. I tried it in Rome the last day we were there. The next stop was Assissi, where I could still smell it on me. Finally when we got to Venice, we found a Santa Maria Novella shop, and bought it as my souvenir. It really smells like something of another time. So nice!

Freshly showered, and thinking about wearing Soivohle’s Harbinger. I don’t get all of the dirty, cuminy notes that some people talk about – I hope I’m not inadvertently wafting “skanky” in my wake. The first time I sprayed this one on, I immediately thought of being in a museum, standing in front of a beautiful painting. Have no idea why, but I liked both the scent and the image, so I’m going with it.

I’m wearing Le Labo Vanille 44, which might just be my scent on Friday too.

Thoroughly enjoying my SOTD: Cuir de Lancome
I sprayed some on the back of my neck and now I can’t stop smelling my hair. I find this time of year the best for a rich leather floral such as this.

    Happy Monday all!

I’ve got Anima Dulcis on today because I’m trying to figure this scent out.

    …still working on it.

Today I am comparing 2 “Absolu” vanillas. On the left, we have La Maison Vanille Absolu de Vanille. And on the right, we have Montale Vanille Absolu. So far, the Montale is much sweeter and the Maison is a bit boozier. Neither sems like something I need to have.

Cartier’s L’Heure II, Convoitee–TheGoddessRena made me do it! It is strawberries and carnations, iris and so pretty. I think I will wear it this weekend to a party with a vintage red dress and stilettos :D

You inspired me. That’s one of the things I like about these posts. I read about what people are wearing, and it makes me paw through my samples to wear things that have languished, unloved, and give them SKIN TIME!!!

Deva has me wanting to find Cuir Ottoman for tomorrow. Small problem–anti perfume office Abe that beauty is a sillage monster on me. Mebbe this weekend. Or tonight ;)

Best wishes on your comps! Hang in there….

“and” not Abe. Poor Abe’s name was taken in vain by autocorrect.

Today I’m trying Olympic Orchids – Perfume. It’s really interesting! I would love a candle that smells like this – it is perfect for the holidays. I’m not sure what the official notes are, but to me it smells like herbs, pine, orange peel, spices and some aquatic note. Warm and effervescent at the same time. Cheers!

a pair made in heaven :) I have both the eau legere and the regular version and love them both – eau legere for spring/summer and the EDP for the rest of the year.

I was really hankering to try the body oil and finally was able to check it over the weekend at a local Nordies.

I have a mini of EDP but find it a little big on the sillage and thought the oil would be a great alternative but I was really disappointed. Could hardly smell the fragrance at all but could smell the carrier oil immensely!

Very strange so I guess I’llI’ll stick with my mini and dab it rather than spritz.

Oh, I would like a body oil… too bad it doesn’t live up to its promise!

That is interesting that you find the sillage a bit much. I find myself reapplying! But, after testing Knot a few times, I ultimately gave it the thumbs down… and I found its sillage quite powerful…

I’m wearing a de-stress perfume early and going with JS Fancy. I’ve been going, going, going ever since older dd’s performance in The Nutcracker yesterday trying to finish shopping, order surprise dance items for her as gifts and get the house ready for guests staying until after New Year’s Day. I’m so tired…

SOTD is Burberry Brit Red. We’re back to the colder weather here after being spoiled by a few 60 degree days, and the weather + the season are making me crave it even more than I normally do (it’s a Top 10 for me). I will never understand why Burberry DC’d this one. Not only is it so vastly superior to any of their recent releases, but there’s never been another scent that resembles it, to my nose. Here’s hoping my hoarded bottles never go off :-/

I am wearing SL Five O’Clock Au Gingembre. It is not cold here today, but is foggy and rainy and a very gray day, so I thought I’d spice things up a bit for myself.

I’m wearing Aftelier Tango today, from a sample. I’m really enjoying it. I didn’t like it the first time I tried it, a couple of years ago. What a difference a little time can make.

Did I ever not keep it simple today. Early this morning I put on Jungle l’elephant and enjoyed until shower time. Then I spritzed liberally with Jacomo 8. Then I saw the sample of Montale Black Oud sitting on the table that a fellow nst-er just sent – she had labeled it with DANGER Black Oud! And little drawings of skulls and crossbones which made me laugh my AO. So I had to put some on my wrist and ended up quite liking it. As I was dashing out the door, I almost tripped over the box from Luckyscent that was mailed out sometime during the Pleistocene era and FINALLY got here with my PHI in it. I’m grateful to have a bottle after the PHi frenzy a month ago. Tonight I’m wearing PHI and it smells identical to my sample from last year’s batch.
