Do tell us your fragrance of the day if you have a free moment.
I've started in on the Serge Lutens...I'm wearing Rousse.
Reminder: this Friday, 26 September, will be Uncle Serge Day...wear something by Serge Lutens.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.

One spray of Cinnabar as it happens … ๐
We match!
Happy autumn everyone! I’m wearing Estee Lauder Sensuous.
Mmmmmm, creamy, honeyed sandalwood. It’s my choice today, too.
Hi twin!
Waves back!
Ah, I should dig out my bottle.
I never really gave Sesuous a fair testing. I’ll have to give myself a spritz next time I’m at the department store.
You smell good!
SOTD is Triomphe (Rance). I needed something low-key after that powerhouse yesterday, Sashka Man.
Have not tried anything by Rance in ages…
Wearing a big splash from a huge vintage Caleche EdT bottle I found antiquing yesterday. 200ml unopened for $16! It isn’t quite my thing but maybe I can swap some during the swap meet.
I also acquired maybe 30ml of Eau de Cologne Imperiale for $9. And it’s dated 1970. I put on a hefty splash last night and loved it.
Wow, great score! Congrats on both.
Lucky you! I haven’t ever seen anything other than ridiculously priced empty minis when antiquing.
Any vintage classic for $16 is a huge score!!!
Great finds! I love finding things like that. I haven’t gone to any antique shops in a while. There is one in particular where I’ve had pretty good luck. I resisted going in last time I was in the area.
Wow! Yes, let’s definitely talk during the swap meet! ๐
I started in on the Serge too, with Tubereuse Criminelle.
I will probably be in TC before the week is out ๐
I oversprayed and almost killed myself with the top notes, but it’s smelling great now. ๐
LOL!
It’s officially fall in the Rockies. Nights are cool and crisp while the days are still warm-hot. Hard to dress correctly for a full day away from home unless you layer up (or down) as the day progresses.
I’m wearing biehl.parfumkunstwerke’s Egon Oehlkers 01 today because we’re going through a tough stretch at work (downsizing ๐ ) and I needed a comfort scent. As someone who didn’t get the memo on Organza Indecence until it was discontinued, pricey and hard to find, I think EO01 is its long lost sibling. It has that same incredible cashmere wrap comfort ambiance going on, but it is slightly more complex, I think, and more artsy, if you will. This is one of the handful of scents I sprung for a full bottle of upon an hour of wearing the sample. Lovely, warm and comforting.
Oh dear, so sorry about the downsizing…are you safe? Glad you smell good in any case.
Thank you, my friend, for your kind thoughts. Honestly? I don’t know yet. They have told us they will be finished with all the cuts by the end of Q1 15 but that they are starting immediately. So it looks like anywhere between 1 day and 6 months before we’ll know who goes and who stays. My fingers are crossed!
And yes, stress is always alleviated by smelling as good as one possibly can! ๐
Good luck – will have fingers crossed for you!
Oh gosh, that’s a long time to worry. Keep wearing fragrance, and maybe take up meditation.
I’ve tested the EO 01, and I totally agree – its like a cross between Organza Indecence and that Luctor & Emergo…. It’s been a long time since I smelled it, but it does have a very comforting vibe. Also, best wishes and much good luck on the company downsizing. I am also looking down the mouth of the beast and it is very frightening to either be destabilized or work with long time colleagues who will be.
Iโm very sorry about what you are going through, Teri and AnnS. Youโre in my thoughts during this difficult time, and I agree that mindfulness meditation can reduce stress. The EO 01 sounds nice. I like their Al02 (the spicy and fruity one).
All the best,
K
Happy first day of fall everyone ๐
This cool morning in the best city- nyc- I a wearing Chanel Allure
Have a great day! Feels like fall here too.
SOTD is Elixir des Merveilles- one spritz last night before bed is lasting throughout the day today. I am hoping the application of this will stimulate some weather changes here in the south- I am longing for a cool breeze, a cozy sweater and the comfort that is EdM!
Happy almost hump day all ๐
Good luck! We are not quite to cozy sweater weather, but we’re getting there.
Happy fall, everyone! I am scent-less at the moment. But after I get around, I am trying to decide between Clair de Musc or a little vintage Vent Vert, or Beige. Thoughts? I feel like they’re all suited in different ways for this sunny, crisp autumn day.
Tough decision. Maybe close your eyes, choose one, and then decide if that’s the one you want to go with?
It’s not really an answer to your question, but when I freeze in the face of decision (chocolate or vanilla with caramel? Favorite green sweater or favorite grey sweater?) I make a pretend decision and then see how I feel ๐
Bahahaha, that is an excellent idea. I ended up going a totally different route and wearing Le Temps D’Une Fete, but next time I will definitely try that!
Oooh, a favorite! I was going to say it was hard to go wrong with your other choices, too.
Fun! You smell great, I’m sure.
I am wearing Parfums Delrea Wit. Very nice, but probably too expensive for a FB. I do see a decant in my future, however.
I have a decant of it – I put it away for next spring, but I’m sure I’ll yank it out and wear it when the weather is right! So beautiful.
I think Robin mentioned that there might be travel bottles of DelRaes available in the future. That would be awesome. Oddly I would like some in the rollerball (Amoureuse, Bois de Paradis) and some in the spray (Panache, Wit).
Makes sense, since Amoureuse and Bois de Paradis are so powerful. One spray seems to work for me, though.
Dune! Sometimes it is rather dry on me, but today I am getting more floral in the middle – 5 hours! – than usual.
I just realized that I have more Dior fragrances than any other label. Odd I never noticed that…
I finished my bottle of Dune about 4 months ago, and I thought I could live without it. But it is funny how many times I think about it still! Maybe I should just get a small decant…
It’s funny how we seem to gravitate to a house. I have a lot of Patricia de Nicholai… great scents, nice size, at a terrific price. It doesn’t surprise me.
That would be great poll question – what house do you gravitate to? What house do you have the most scents?
ps – you smell great!
I’m also surprised at the number of Diors I have. The Dior aesthetic in general strikes me as an opulent glamour which is most Definitely not me. But I do prefer the fullness of their scents to the understated restraint of Chanel.
Today I put on Cabotine Bleu. I purchased it at a discounter a little while back and it does smell nice. It’s light, but lasts well on me.
It is pouring and windy, so I put on Santal de Mysore in the hopes of bringing a little rum-soaked pirate to my rain lashed walks around campus.
Storm at sea, maybe?
I have a rotation of right now, 9 perfumes that I wear pretty much one right after the other. That way I never have the same scent on on the same day of the week or similar circumstance. Does anyone else do this, I wonder? Have a pattern of how you chose what to wear?
I don’t do that, but I think it’s a really interesting idea! What made you think to do this?
I don’t have a pattern, exactly, but I seldom wear the same thing two days in a row (funny, because I spent about 15 years wearing nothing but Jil Sander 4). I usually gauge my scent by the weather forecast, and today Oregon decided to go all-in on autumn – it’s rainy and cool, after a 90-degree weekend – and I’m wearing Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile.
Mereditay, what other Dior fragrances do you rotate through? Dune doesn’t seem to work on me, but I love Escale a Portofino (and am giving a little sample to a friend today because she loves it on me and wants to try it).
I’m pretty random via the weather and temperature, except if I know I have a meeting at work, and then I’ll pick something pretty standard and tame like No 5 Eau Premiere, No 5 edt, Bottega Veneta or BV Eau Legere.
SOTD is Chanel Cristalle. Traveling for work in Texas where it’s not fall yet … No spicy fragrances til I get back home. Rousse sounds great! I love the transition to fall, with spicy perfume and wearing scarves ๐
Love Cristalle! Bet it’s great on a scarf too. ๐
Yeah, it’s more like summer, late summer, still freakin’ summer, 20 minutes of winter, 10 minutes of spring, summer ๐ I’ve become pretty good at wearing spicy stuff in warmer than ideal conditions but there is a reason there are so many light florals and citrus in my collection.
Scent twin…again! ๐
70 and cloudy, also not ready for fall scents.
Still too hot in TX for heavy hitters, although temps are dipping into the high 80s today. I’m wearing a sweater. ๐
I’m wearing a sweater too! It’s 57 here today!! * ๐ *
80 degree temps require a sweater? In the Northeast, that would translate as shorts and flip-flops weather
We had 65 degrees and damp for an afternoon a couple of weeks ago and I saw people in coats and scarves.
Yesterday evening I tested both Rozys again and remained unconvinced. Today, I think I’ll try to figure out how much I really like Ann Gerard Rose Cut, which I preferred at first sniff.
I’m tempted to test all three but sort of scared I’ll fall for another rose scent… and I haven’t even gotten a sniff of the Tauer Une Rose de Kandahar, either…
They’re all so different – can you really have too many roses? ๐
Still deciding which of my samples next to my computer I’ll be wearing today, BUT – I ordered the Ormonde Jayne discovery set (I think Hajusuuri suggested it a while ago) for my upcoming birthday, and I am sooooo excited! There have been far too many good reviews for me not to give them a try, and it doesn’t hurt that they’ll come in a pretty box too…
As for today’s samples, I’ve landed on Osmanthus Interdite on one arm and Paul and Joe Bleu on the other.
Oooo – what a great birthday treat! Please report back, and happy almost birthday!
Thank you thank you!! I promise to report back on everything.
I found so many favorites in that OJ set. Happy discoveries! ๐
Wheeeee! Thank you!
Happy almost birthday! And woohoo on earning an enabler pin!
I think you may need an enabler tiara by now…you’re well beyond pins. ๐
The OJ set sounds fun.
I can’t wait!
Hope you’re well Missionista!
I like Rousse. Got a sample somewhere… it’s unusual, I think, to find a spicy fragrance that doesn’t also go deep into Oriental or amber territory, which is sort of verbotenland for me (‘scuse the made-up German, sorry). I don’t mind spicy woods, but I can’t do stuff like Opium and Cinnabar. Let’s see, Rousse and Organza Indecence, Smell Bent One and CSP L’eau du Gouverneur… what else?
No SOTD yet. Was thinking of Jolie Madame, but now pondering spices. And maybe Uncle Serge’s Fleurs d’Oranger, which is very tubey to my nose (my sample is post-refo, with no discernible cumin).
I’m in an iris mood and selected Iris Poudre today.
Still trying to decide on Uncle Serge day but as I seem to be wearing florals this week, it may be Fleur d’Oranger. If it cools off, though, I may need to break out the Chergui.
Love Iris Poudre.
Amouage Homage today–one drop pressed between the wrists and I am enveloped in rosy wonderfulness. Today is the first day I have worn a sweater in months and I am loving it.
For Uncle Serge day I can choose from A la nuit, Un bois vanille, De profundis, MKK, or Sarrasins. I have no idea which I’ll pick.
Nahรฉma! Rose to the power of….
Today I put on Missoni. Not the Lucas Turin 5star rated Missoni from 1982, which I love, but the 2006 Missoni, which I also love. It is a perfect transitional scent for the first day of Autumn. Of course, it’s going to get into the 80s today, but it started out in the 60s so Missoni works. To my nose the first blast of scent that I get is almost cucumbery, but then it moves to a sweet, almost chocolate note that is also rather floral. Perfect.
Actually I believe the famous Luca Turin 5-star review is for the 2006 Missoni (the one by Roucel).
Good to know, I really thought it was the older version. I’ll have to go back and reread the review. As I said I love them both, so either way…
Diptyque Eau Duelle EDP today. Just felt vanilla this morning, you know?
Was just trying to recall when I got into fragrance for real, and I think it started early last winter. Which is fun, because this is my first summer fall transition.
I wouldn’t go back to pre-perfume lifestyle for anything.
Great scent for autumn. I use that a lot too.
I have that in the solid form which comes in a very snappy looking (and heavy!) metal magnetized container. I had it stashed away and just dug it out and took a big whiff- yummy!
Wearing that French Oakmoss again. I’m ready for fall but the weather isn’t cooperating, as usual.
Autumn is here, and it is time for Dzing! So delightful. And I AM burning my Ambre candle from Diptyque. Cosy!
Ohhh, I am having regrets now. The other day I was thinking it was time to bust out the Dzing!
๐
Prada Infusion D’Iris, which I haven’t touched in ages. Got a “Wow, you smell nice!” this morning from my husband. Weirdly, I was a bit anosmic to this scent about a year ago, but now I find it very accessible and distinct–elegant even.
You smell nice! ๐ I like Infusion d’Iris a lot. Have you tried Absolue flanker?
I haven’t, but want to!
SOTD is Signature Collection Vanilla Coconut fragrance mist by Bath and Body Works. It is a fragrance mist that smells good and lasts all day. Cheap and cheerful (the fragrance, not me ๐ )
That’s the way I felt about the VS Vanilla Lace- before they turned it into the current version of yuck. Loved that stuff back in the 90’s! Cheap and cheerful is a great combo ๐
Yes, VS Vanilla Lace was good in the 90s. I first smelled it over 20 years ago when I was standing in line, with several bags of books, at the annual Friends of the Library used book sale. The woman in front of me smelled wonderful, and I asked her what she was wearing and it was Vanilla Lace. I wore it a lot in my youth.
Fragrantica says that its from the 2000s, but it’s way older than that. I have not smelled it since the reformulation.
Cath from Sweet Anthem which was pretty but has mostly faded ( from a solid sample) so I will add it to my suitable for clinic category for when I’m back in school clinic next year
I am wearing Tom Ford’s Tobacco Oud today.
I like all TF’s tobacco-related scents and I’m not sure which one I’d chose if I had to.
I needed a little extra something-something today, so I’m wearing the TM Alien Essence Absolue. Yummers! I will concede that this frag can be a monster. Just the smallest squirt will do me for hours. If I put on too much, it’s a powerful cloud.
I love this one but can only wear it in cold weather, otherwise it seems much too strong. Maybe I should try dabbing rather than spraying?
I think I must be lucky b/c the bottle I have puts out a very tiny little squirt. I don’t know if they are all like that, but it makes it really easy to control. Thank god!
I bought AEA for my birthday yesterday, but have not yet opened it. Sometimes I adore it, but there have been times, in testing that I have found it too buxom.
If I decide not to keep it I could exchange it by paying in for a Montale or otherwise Dior’s Cuir Cannage. It is a discount store so these perfumes are not nearly as pricey as they are at ordinary retail.
Happy Birthday!
Tks ๐
It was unusually cool when I woke up this morning, so I went with Chergui. It’s supposed to be back up in the 80s this afternoon, but whatever. Around here you can basically define Fall as temps consistently below 90. I oversprayed and just about gassed myself out, but it’s fine now.
Sweetgrass, do you find Chegui has a lot of overlap with Bulgari Black?
You know.. I’d always thought of Chergui and Black as completely different things, but now that you mention it, I can see where you might find some overlap between the two. I’ve never smelled them side-by-side to compare, but now I’m curious. I think the similarity is in the sweeter notes. Chergui doesn’t have the rubbery, creosote-ish quality to me that Black does.
I’v never done a side by side either but I would characterize Black as a floral rubber scent and Chergui as tobacco, hay and amber. The overlap is on the vanilla. If that helps at all?
Ferre today, more spring-like than the reality of the grey morning. Time for work…
This week’s theme seems to be perfumes I love but can’t justify buying. Today I’m wearing L’Artisan Safran Troublant. It’s so delicious and luxurious–a little sweet and totally creamy and soft.
My office is cold so it seems to cryogenically preserve fragrances, and four hours later, I can still smell it, but this is an anomaly. If only I could trust it to last all day.
I’m working from home today so took advantage of the opportunity to wear L’Air de Rien.
Thumbs up to be able to work from home!
Lovely! I put on l’air de Rien last night and still enjoying the sweet musky dry down this afternoon.
Wearing AA Mandarine Basilic today. No fall here in San Diego, where we’ve had the hottest summer in a very long time and it’s still going strong. At least it has cooled off a little. Got some not so great health news for my husband (nothing life-threatening! it’s more you better make some changes now!) which will require lots of food/lifestyle changes for us, so I wanted a happy familiar fragrance.
Very best wishes to you both!
Seconding Melissa’s well wishes!
Thank you! IOf course it is a good thing for us in the long run to make these changes, but change is hard! And I like food that is bad for me ๐
As a food allergy sufferer, I feel ya!!!
I’m in the Midwest for a month, helping my mom… Brought a few favorite decants and a handful of samples to try. Today was umber by dsh/beaux arts. It’s a manufacturer’s sample, but smells nothing like what i guessed from the name. A little bit of dirt, but a lot of sour chypre. Now that it’s a couple of hours in, it’s calmed quite a bit, but there’s something unpleasant and musty going on. Anyone familiar with this scent? Was the wrong vial attached to this card? I’ll switch it later for necessary mood elevation…
Not wearing anything yet but plan to dab on a tiny smidge of DelRae Bois de Paradis for the flight back home from paradise (Hawaii). I wish I could stay here for another couple of days or maybe weeks ๐
Oooooh, nice! I spent about 5 days in Hawaii several years ago and it was too short a time. So beautiful – and not just the touristy beaches, I really enjoyed visiting the Big Island and seeing Volcanoes Natl Park.
On my second day of Serge, wearing La Fille de Berlin, which I bought last year for my birthday in July. I’m already half way finished with the bottle!
THat was a wise purchase, then. ๐
L’Air du Temps for me today. ๐
I’m keeping the Sonoma Scent Studio rose theme going today with Velvet Rose.
Ambre Oud by Kilian today. Last year in Istanbul I bought the Rose Oud travel set and the SA gave me a couple of samples of Ambre Oud as I had a hard time choosing between them. Everytime I wear it I want this one too, but damn I wish they weren’t so pricey! ๐
Wearing SL Jeux de Peau today. Man, is this one potent!
Clients today so just had wisps of l’air de Rien. Tonight it was Rose Anonyme, three sprays before cooking up a very big pot of vegetarian chili.
Went back and reread the Lucas Turin review, which does indeed refer to the 2006 version. The next review, of Missoni Aqua, intrigued me, so I’ll have to also give that one a try.
I have been confused about this for years. Until recently, I was sure LT was talking about the 1982 version, because a) the 1982 bottle seemed like the “poverty stricken” one and b) his description of what Missoni smells like does not match the 2004 version, which is obviously bitter chocolate ad melon. Nonetheless, I recently realized that since he emphasizes Roucel, he has to be talking about the 2004 version. It’s bizarre!
I like Aqua, too. It’s sort of the same fragrance with a different balance.
Looks like lots of us are starting the SL day early–I’m making it a week of SOTEs, and a few SOTDs. Today was Sa Majeste La Rose, yesterday was Encens et Lavande. There are too many to wear, and many are too big for my scent phobic office. We’ll see what I can discreetly dab ๐
My SOTD is a Tale of Two Bois: Bois Farine layered generously with Un Bois Vanille.
My pristine bottle of BF has been sitting in its box collecting strata of dust next to my copy of Ulysses for about three years: both difficult to digest! I find that the sweetness of BV tones down the sweaty and spicy, cumin (gag gag) note in BF.
The final concoction is vaguely reminiscent of Jeux de Peau.
A new season deserves a new sample–today I’m wearing Arquiste Architect’s Club. It’s OK, but not FB worthy for me. Perfect for today though.
I just got my decant…maybe I’ll wear it tomorrow!
SOTD = VC&A Bois d’Iris
SOTD yesterday = Bvlgari Black
Love both, need a FB of Bois d’Iris, need to get a back up of Bvlgari Black
today I’m wearing dry woods by Ramone Monegal…but then I was bored and I’ve opted for a more commercial one..L’homme Ideal by Guerlain
