What's your fragrance today?
I'm wearing Jicky Eau de Toilette (but as usual, not from that bottle). I smell fantastic.
Reminder: this Friday, August 15, wear something by Guerlain. We'll do this again in winter, so don't feel like you have to wear Shalimar if it's too hot for Shalimar. The following Friday, August 22, wear something beachy, or anything you think of as "a vacation in a bottle".
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.
Daim Blond today. Feeling rather leathery.
I need to try Jicky, because I suspect you smell fabulous, Robin.
I did not love it the first time I smelled it…also worth trying all 3 concentrations if you can find them, because the emphasis in each is quite different.
I will do so! The more samples to play with, the better.
I haven’t tried it either! Should I sample the edt or edp…or both!
Both, and the extrait if you can! (Although finding a tester is not easy) I like the EdT & the extrait best, but yesterday Dawn said she likes the EdP best, so your mileage may vary 🙂
I do love the EDP the best. Even though Jicky no matter what the concentrtion is hard to find but I find the EDP the hardest to find for a reasonable price. I have a small spray decant, the only reason I won’t get the extrait is the price tag. But it is worth a try.
Gracias! Will track down what I can and report back.
I concur. I prefer Jicky edp as well. Has just enough umph without being noxious to passerby!
It’s my first day back from vacation, so I’m serving some professionalism with Infusion d’Iris.
Good choice! And sorry your vacation is over.
Thanks! I’ll carry on somehow….
Me too (Id’I, and condolences on the end of your vacation. Wishing you a non-crazy first day back.
)
Pre-caffeine posting…
🙂
Me three! Feeling tired and worn out and wishing I was at home watching tv instead of work … Id’I is a comfort scent to me.
I love IdI and Sensuous for the combination of total all-occasion appropriateness and appealing velvetiness — cozy comfort scents for restrained-scent situations.
Early this morning I sprayed from a sample of Xerjoff JTC Shunkoin, and oh, it is not good, like a cheap, synthetic version of SL Rahät Loukoum. (I’ve tried three from the JTC line so far and haven’t liked any of them.) When I couldn’t stand it any more I showered it off and put on something decent, which is to say Hermes Ambre Narguilé.
Angie didn’t like them much either. So far, I think the iris is the only Xerjoff I really want.
She’s the one who sent me her samples when she was done with them! I wish I liked them more, considering the price and the trouble she took to send them to me, and maybe there’s a hidden treasure, but so far nothing.
They really should be a lot better than they are, considering the price, but we know that cost is no index of quality (look at YR Secrets d’Essences — a third as much even at full price and inestimably better).
Working a very quiet half day today. Got my Gilded Lily sprayer working so wearing quite a bit of it.
Oh good, glad you won’t have to take extreme measures.
Aromatics Elixir, lotion and EDP. I can probably be smelled from outer space.
Yeah, but the denizens of outer space probably think you smell terrific.
I like to think so too!
Yum! I’m not often in an Aromatics Elixir mood but when I do put some on, I can’t imagine why I waited so long.
Ironically, it’s on of my most complimented perfumes.
Yum! Put on more, I still can’t smell you.
I just have. It’s one of the most confidence boosting fragrances in my collection.
I just got some samples so I have a dab of Amouage Opus VIII on one wrist (it’s gorgeous) and a bit of Byredo’s Flowerhead on the other (pretty but really not me).
SOTD is Signature Black Mark (Jack Black).
I’ve never tried Jicky on skin. I always get distracted by the L’Heure Bleue Parfum at the Guerlain counter.
I haven’t picked a fragrance yet but it might be Iris Silver Mist. I like it best in the summer and it is hot today in Houston!
On an unrelated note, I bought some fresh tuberose and man, what a knock-out scent! I wish they smelled so good on my skin!
Iris silver mist! Almost wore that today, but my decant went bad…
Oh no! It goes bad? 🙁
I had a friend bring me back a bottle from Paris… jeez, maybe 4 years ago. Maybe I should start wearing it more.
My decant went bad. The guy put it in a plastic atomizer. My fault for leaving it in there. It wasn’t a huge decant, so not too big a loss. I think perfume lasts longer in the original bottle. Plastic decants are the worst.
Someday I’m going to special-order some tuberose from my florist. (I checked. Minimum order $80. EEEEP.) Small-town life…
Not an insignificant amount, true, but think of how many rooms you could perfume!
Ooh where did you get fresh tuberose? I saw some one day at Whole Foods (the one on Bellaire), about a year or so ago. I didn’t buy it right away because I was going back to my office and wouldn’t have anything to put it in until I got home. And when I went back it was gone. I was kicking myself for not buying it when I saw it, and they haven’t had it again.
Central Market! They were pricy (and the last of!) but totally worth it. I walk by and the smell is intoxicating.
I was gonna suggest CM. They had some at the one here a couple weeks ago but D said he’d get a headache if we had to drive home with it. I have actually seen it recently at my regular HEB (which happens to have a great floral dept) so if there is a nice one nearby you might try them.
Good to know.. I go to Central Market fairly frequently but I don’t look in the floral department often. I’ll have to look there more.
TDC Osmanthus–used to wear this a lot but I definitely wouldn’t consider it anymore as a contender for signature weekend
SOTD is Bottega Veneta Eau Legere for the second day in a row, I am trying to empty a mini, which shouldn’t be too hard, because it’s beautiful.
Today I’m testing Iris Tubereuse from Creed’s new Acqua Originale collection.
Unfortunately I’m not really fond of this one. Gotta check the other samples I got.
Oh sorry to hear that – the name sounded as though it could be hopeful and I do like some of their scents. I won’t try that hard to smell some then!
Today, I am wearing Zagorsk. It’s not often that I get to smell pine that doesn’t smell like Pine Sol.
You smell fabulous! I’ve busted out Zagorsk and my other CdG Incense Series scents recently as bedtime/ SOTEs. They are so tranquil in spirit. Nice!
I really do like Zagorsk. Such a clean/cold/contemplative scent.
Today I’m wearing Nest Midnight Fleur. I bought the rollerball, but the more I wear it, the more I think I’ll buy a full bottle in the near future.
I do love Jicky, but it is so hard to find. I ordered two small decants. One for the EDT and one for the EDP. I’m trying to judge which one works best on my skin, and hopefully I’ll see it at a store soon near me really soon. If not, I’ll be traveling through the Miami airport, and maybe they’ll have it there?? Hoping!
I’m wearing Amouage Gold Man. I love both this and Gold Woman, and they seem to work well in any weather (as does my absolute favorite Amouage, Jub 25). If anyone is interested, you can find some Amouage on sale right now at fragnet (including travel sprays and extraits for some). Very tempting!
Today I put on Le Labo Benjoin 19 from a set of samples that I got from Luckyscent (no affiliation). To me, its character is sort of similar to L’air du Desert Marocain, which means that I definitely like it.
Today I’m wearing Atelier’s Sous le toit de Paris, and did a few extra sprays and for that I’m quite happy!
Stopped by Aedes de Venustas yesterday and tried their newest, Oeillet Bengale, and thought it was really gorgeous. It’s a rose that with the spices comes off as a carnation. Very pretty and lasted a good long time on me after I sprayed some.
On my list it goes!
I used up my sample of Sous le Toit yesterday. I probably had enough for a few more wears but i decided to go all out and I’m glad I did. It was heavenly. I think I’ll have to order another sample or two. It’s a pity this one isn’t widely distributed.
And the smallest size is 200MLs!
I just got another decant in the mail yesterday.
I can’t imagine using up 200 ml. I think they used to sell a 30 ml by itself but now it only comes as a set with the big bottle.
Yes, that was my SOTD yesterday. It is an amazingly, beautiful scent. And, it lasts almost all day without having to reapply. Enjoy! You smell magnificent :).
🙂
So do love when I can still smell a scent at 3pm in the afternoon!
I reviewed Oeillet Bengale yesterday and am in love with it.
Wow, what timing! I look forward to reading that on my commute home.
It is quite special.
Like I mentioned, it was my SOTD yesterday and is quickly becoming one of my faves! I can’t stop singing its praises.
I was just there last night at around 6 – too bad we didn’t run into each other! Would have loved to meet another fumie. I would have tried the Oeillet but I ran out of arm real estate.
I was there at 5:45!
Great store. They stock quite a bit.
Then I went to CO Bigelow down the road which is fun too.
Jubilation Woman to celebrate getting all As in the 7 exams that I sat this May/June. I feel incredibly pleased and smell fantastic (if I may say so myself).
Congratulations!!! (I didn’t think that they gave As where you live? Aren’t you in England?)
Jubilation indeed! Time to celebrate, Congratulations!
Congrats!
Congrats and cause for Jubilation!
My SOTD is Bubblegum Chic.
Totally random: I just found out that the actor who plays the 12th Doctor on Doctor Who (Peter Capaldi) was in a punk band with Craig Ferguson. How cool is that? I’m in the U.S., and we won’t see the new Doctor until August 23rd.
My 11 y/o son is in extreme count down mode to see The Doctor on 8/23!!
SOTD is Sel de Vetiver.
I went to Barneys to try perfumes yesterday for the first time ever. My experience was mostly positive and I may have gone a little bit crazy. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of telling one of the sales assistants that I didn’t buy many full bottles and I got decants instead, and he was not quite so helpful after that. Oh well, I learned my lesson :/ If only all the perfume houses offered reasonably sized (and priced!) bottles!!!
I expect the companies have done the math, or just don’t care, but you might think they would have learned something from L’Artisan and Hermes. I would buy a LOT of things in half-ounce bottles if they were available (and my current moratorium on new purchases would not exist).
I have an old Jicky eau de cologne in the “dial” bottle. I opened it this morning and then put it down while I was reaching for a cocktail straw to apply it. Suddenly, I was stunned by the impression that an animal had defecated under a nearby stack of books and magazines – how that could happen in a high-rise condo?! Then I realized I had just let the civet out. 🙂
(Not to deter anyone – that impression was immediately replaced by by the frisson of fresh lavender and citrus, coumarin and vanillin, herbs and roses.)
I bought it on ebay from a seller who told me she was happy to find someone who wanted it, because it had been sitting around “under the rocking chair.” I thought to myself, that’s no place for Jicky!
That is awesome! You know you are a fragonerd if someone writes about civet, and interest is peaked 😀 With all the talk of Jicky today, I realized I’ve never put it on skin. I’ve always bypassed it for Mitsy, and my struggles to find the perfect vintage of that grande dame. I will go and search out a tester of Jicky this weekend. Enjoy your vintage EdC. It sounds wonderful! Be well.
Today it’s Passage d’Enfer for me. It’s very nice. I get a really soapy vibe from it that reminds me of an incense soap I just recently used up. I don’t have any Guerlains for tomorrow but I’ll see if I can score a sample of Vetiver today. Hopefully Sephora stocks this one
Sounds like Passage d’Enfer smells *much* better on you. On me it smelled like I was stuck in a car with one of those tree-shaped deodorizers. Passage d’Enfer, indeed…
Very soapy on me as well, but “soapy” is almost always a dealbreaker for me.
Lady Vengeance today. I really like it and should make and effort to wear it more but find I have to be in the right mood and the weather has to eb right. Damp and quite cold for August in the UK today and it works well.
Am pondering tomorrow’s choice. If this weather keeps up Shalimar might be a decent choice!
Happy Friday Eve everyone.
I’m wearing an oldie but goodie today – Love Comes From Within from Sarah Horowitz Thran. It’s a very light amber with clove and carnation that stays close to the skin. As a confirmed amber lover who hesitates to wear the big “bombs” in hot weather, I appreciate the light, powdery nature of this scent as my amber ‘fix’ during the summer heat.
Clove and amber fragrance that works in the heat! Wow, I need a bottle of that 🙂
Me too!
SOTD is Agonist Black Amber. The incense is nice, but it’s not enough to replace Byredo Encens Chembur on my FB wish list. In getting through all these Agonists, I am disappointed. Many of them dry down to smell so similar.
Day 4 of Iris week brings me to Le Labo Iris 39. It’s nice – seems light. I just re-spritzed because it seems to have faded from this morning. I prob won’t purchase a bottle after my decant runs dry, but I do like this better than most Le Labo scents I’ve tried.
I” headed out the door to renew my Drivers License and share my Irisy self with the DMV. Yay!
Iris 39 really is lovely. I’ve talked about it here before but Le Labo’s auxiliary products are pretty good. Their Iris 39 body lotion in particular is very nice and less than half of the price of a 50ml bottle.
A friend got the oil and that was really lovely as well.
I’ll have to try the lotion!
Iris 39 was my first FB Le Labo purchase! The shower gel is really nice, but spendy for a shower gel.
A recent stop at a Brooks Brothers outlet store reminded me that somewhere I had a mini of their scent, New York for Ladies. Found it and that’s my SOTD. Luckily (for me) the tuberose peaks out only gently from amidst the other florals and the drydown is soft and woodsy. It smells cool, clean, classic and elegant, and I can see it adding a dash of femininity to a woman in a pinstripe suit (does anyone wear those anymore?) The bottle, even though a mini, is pale pink and lovely, and I shall keep it for those travel occasions when I need to be ‘ladylike’ while city-visiting.
I don’t have any Brooks Brothers suits and I’ve come to the conclusion that if a woman is using the pinstripe to look slimmer, she does not have the right body shape to make the suit flattering on
her. 😉
Too catty, no?
Meow . . .
My SOTD is Estee Lauder’s Modern Muse. I haven’t worn it in a while and figured, why not. Hope everyone is having a great day.
I’m wearing Eau de Guerlain today, started the day with Halston Z-14
Oh man…my high school boyfriend wore Z-14. Love that scent…talk about a sense memory!
Wearing MPG Bahiana today. My decant is almost empty and I’d like to clear some out (I have so many and they all look the same, so I forgot what I have), so trying to finish it up. It’s nice enough and fun, perfect for summer, but shortlived and nothing I need a full bottle of.
SOTD Bvlgari Black.
I can’t remember the last time I went shopping with my dad but somehow we found our way into Nordstrom Rack during his visit with my family last week. I spotted a bottle of Black and despite my self imposed moratorium on all purchases, I couldn’t resist. As I got to the counter my dad jumped in and bought it for me, saying he doesn’t get to buy me gifts anymore. Now I smell fabulous, and will think of my Dad whenever I wear it. Sigh…I’m so happy.
How sweet!
Nice story! Enjoy!
Black is a fabulous gift from a dad!
Kai is my SOTD. It’s the original oil, light green gardenia and tuberose, soapy clean, which is pretty and works well in the 100+ heat here. I like the way the oil wears very close to the body. Stay cool, and be well 😀
Kai is very pretty.
I am wearing House of Matriarch SexMagic today. Despite the stupid name, it’s a cedar, oud, and leather combo that’s quite nice.
You are no doubt poised to be asked what you’re wearing so you can say, “SEXMAGIC!” loudly (with dramatic arm-waving…)
I wish!
Reminds me of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, where a female goddess….
I was unprepared.
Lol ;). Mr. Gaiman just needs to come live with me. I’m sure D wouldn’t mind.
Gave me a chuckle . . . the juxtaposition of the words “Matriach” and “Sex” . . .
The second thing I thought of was “Blood Sugar Sex Magik,” which is a Red Hot Chili Peppers album. The first thing I thought of was, “what a silly name.” 🙂
SOTD is Donna Karan Liquid Cashmere from a sample. I actually quite like this one.
Grossmith Phul-Nana edp from a long-owned decant. They did such a good job with their original classic line relaunch, I think.
Agree – LT called Grossmith Shem-el-Nessim, “an enthusiastic copy” of 1905 Coty L’Origan and recommended it to all who would like to know what that smelled like.
Wearing Bois des Isles but getting some competition from the dog in the rear of the car. Wonder what he rolled in 🙁
Dogs are filthy animals, mine once rolled in dried up cow manure. It was interesting to say the least.
What kind of dog have you got?
Welsh Springer Spaniel. He has a favorite place in the yard where he rolls every time I let him out. I can’t imagine what has died there. Yuck!
Mine is a wire haired dachshund. Welsh Springers are very friendly, does she hunt?
My dog favors Eau de Rotten Rodent, a scrubber every time!
Ha! Although I’m a dog person, cats are definitely much cleaner.
Dogs love indoles!!
I officially live in a fragrance desert. I could not find Guerlain Vetiver at the local mall. Everywhere that I checked had “something better”. One SA even suggested that Vetiver had been discontinued and replaced with L’homme Ideal. She pulled the “I’ve worked in men’s fragrance for ten years” line to back up her proclamation that L’Homme Ideal is the best fragrance ever created. I told her I didn’t care for it. She stared at me like I had two heads.
I don’t really think that’s very unusual…Guerlain is very poorly stocked in most US malls, and even local stores (near me) that have Guerlain counters (NM, Nordstrom) have a really crappy selection of the scents. Frankly I think most perfumistas overestimate how popular the brand is here.
You’re probably right. When the average person wants to spend that kind of money on perfume they most likely will look to Chanel instead of Guerlain. Still, I just had some idea that this particular one would be easier to find. I guess that’s the norm outside a few of the larger cities.
Our 2 Guerlain counters have minimal offerings too, but I find they tend to rotate. Shalimar and Vetiver have been random guest appearances, as was Jicky not too long ago. I wish I’d had the $ to get some (I want the parfum) as it has now all vanished and is so hard to find. That space is now just Insolence and Idylle…
In keeping with the plan of wearing from decants, I got into my 3ml bit of Penhaligon’s Eau Sans Pareil (the rerelease… which I think is discontinued again already). Such a nice light chypre thing – had to take all three kids to the dentist today (two cleanings, plus one kid having 3 baby teeth removed), and I smelled good.
I almost wore Jicky today. I only have a sample of vintage extrait, so I’m not using it up too quickly. Went with vintage Mitsouko today instead. Real oakmossy goodness.
SOTD = Guerlain Shalimar Ode a la Vanille Sur le Route du Mexique
This is Shalimar with all the good bits amplified. I used 4 sprays from my FB and I smell terrific. It reminds me of Chergui.
I wore Lys 41 today and got complimented multiple times! This was my first time wearing it, and while it’s lovely, I’m not sure yet if it fits me. I am terrible at taking perfume compliments, too! They always make me feel like I’m wearing too much…
Today I tried ELdO Josephine Baker. It was a lovely spicy thing with lots of cinnamon, but surprisingly for spice and ELdO, it was incredibly short-lived and wore close to the skin. I brought my decant with me and topped up 6 times during my shift but it was pretty much gone by home time
Today will be Jicky EDT from a circa ’90s tester and just a touch of the real thing: the perfume itself that I splurged on nearly 5 years ago this month.
