Happy Tuesday! Care to tell us your scent of the day, and why you thought it would fit today?
I'm wearing Guerlain Limon Verde, and I picked it for the simple reason that I'm finishing up my review.
Reminder: this Friday (Friday the 13th!) wear your own version of 'Eau de Protection',* i.e. something that brings you good luck or otherwise makes you feel safe and happy. The following Friday, the 20th, will be Fruity Friday. And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.
*named for Etat Libre d'Orange Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection
Today, a very generous application (head to toe, literally) of Guerlain’s Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat. Sunshine and happiness in a bottle. Love it.
Nice! You smell better than I do, I’m sure.
I’m wearing Cuir de Nacre. It’s cold and drizzling rain this morning and a warmish leather scent seemed like a good fit.
It’s not too nice here either…was woken by thunderstorms at 5 am.
I’m wearing Hermes Vanille Galante. I hate every banana or banana-esque, but VG is spectacular.
Love that one 🙂
SOTD is Chanel Beige, picked because I have a little pile of untried samples and this one seemed the likeliest to be appropriate at work. I did a quick sniff-through of the Exclusifs when I was in Vegas and noted down my favorites to order samples, but now I’m not sure why this one spoke to me. It’s… fine. Certainly no flaws to call out. Not even quite so inoffensive as to be offensive, the way some department store frags can be. I like the honeyed dry-down okay but not as well as the similar note in Sensuous Nude and I think I am biased against freesia. Shoulda worn Wilde again!
I liked Beige but never fell in love with it…sounds like our reaction is about the same.
That’s just it. And, update: Beige petered out by 11:30 so I walked to the boutique to sniff some things over lunch, grabbed a spritz of Sensuous Noir and promptly got a compliment on that from the guy in the frozen yogurt shop.
Presumably the new extrait version lasts longer, but have not tried it yet.
It does – I tried it and fell in love. The edt didn’t do much for me but the parfum is divine.
Interesting, thanks…maybe I am better off not trying it!
Funny – I heart Beige in a serious way, but Sensuous Nude does nada for me. Now I am curious about Wilde!
Beige is definitely more elegant and SN takes it beachy — but I noticed some similarities in the soft white flowers, the clean, not too sweet, velvety honey and the light wear of them, and I really just wanted to be at the beach instead!
Beach! Yes, please. Sigh. I AM missing some beach in my life right now.
Planning on a massive dose of something tropical and beachy when I get home from work tonight!
I know that I ought to be trying something in my untested pile but I haven’t been all that motivated. I am kind of leaning to wearing Mitsouko or Sycomore.
Sometimes I have a hard time reaching in that pile too 🙂
MPG Ambre Precieux. A cool rainy day and it’s one of the only ambers I like/can wear without it going all masculine on me. Thinking I need a small decant as I only have a sample at the moment…
I do wish MPG would do something new already! It’s been ages.
Have you tried the SSS Amber Noir? I get a nice rose in it so it doesn’t feel masculine to me at all. It’s really lovely.
Ooh, no but I should – I absolutely love Laurie’s other work!
Today it’s Ralph Lauren “Glamorous”. I bought this bottle 8 or 9 years ago on a whim at TJ Maxx because I thought it was a happy scent. Cost me $19.95. Now these are selling on ebay for $200 and up. I wish I’d bought all TJ’s had and held on to them for investment purposes! lol
I feel this way in discount stores all the time. What if I never find it again? The worst is I’m always convincing myself things could be good trade bait…. Or I could skip buying the trade bait and spend my money on things I know I want?
I’ve been falling into this vortex, buying up bottles of things from discounters that I like, but don’t definitively love, then waiting to see if something I like better will come in, or just returning many of them. I’m asking the same question: shouldn’t I stop spending money on things I kinda like and buy the one thing that I’ll love (whatever that is….)?
Tubereuse Criminelle. It makes me laugh. Smells like Icy Hot!
I’ve never smelled Icy Hot, but I’m willing to believe it! The opening is just weird.
SO weird. Icy Hot basically smells very strongly of menthol and wintergreen. Love the drydown though.
For whatever reason, I’ve grown to love the opening…maybe I should get some Icy Hot 😉
Hey, it’s a lot cheaper than a Lutens. 8)
Ha!! You can smell like Lutens for under $5…
Jo Malone Vanilla & Anise. No real reason. 😛
Which is often why I chose whatever fragrance!
DSH Pandora. For some reason, I always forget about this one, but I love it. I have been on a vintage kick lately, and this is one contemporary scent that feels as if it could have come from an earlier era.
One of many DSH scents I have not tried!
Today I’m wearing Habit from Wild Veil, a natural solid that I’m wearing because it becomes almost imperceptible after about 10 min so that way I know I have perfume on (and won’t feel naked) but it won’t bother my patients in clinic, 4hours from now
It was a long weekend here in Greece and we went to a seaside town to enjoy the sea and sun. On those occasions, I go fragrance-free, so I had not worn anything since last Friday.
Unfortunately the weather was awful – rain, wind and even hale (!). At least it was warm. It was funny being on the beach and suddenly seeing black clouds gathering, then having to run. It felt kind of sub-tropical.
SOTD was Lys Soleia, to make up for the sun I missed. I enjoyed it for the first four hours or so, then it faded. I can still smell it on my wrist, but that’s all. Really beautiful, though.
One spritz of Ubar today. The other day I tried a few and found it really oppressive. Only problem today is I’m really sneezey and not sure if it’s the scent or something else.
I had a question for all my American friends:) I know someone going to the US and was considering some scents from Ava Luxe. I am very picky, but I like layering so I could perhaps use these in that way if they are not to my taste. Do you have favourites from her collection and has anyone tried her patchouli?
Also, any advice about her musks would be good (I’m lately liking musk but tend to be anosmic to some…)
I have her Nude Musk and it’s a staple in my collection. Citrus (bergamot or lemon), sandalwood, vanilla and musk. Cozy and comforting.
And also has some great reviews:) Thanks for the rec!
Someone recommended Ava Luxe no.23 to me in my Monday Mail the other month, and it’s lovely. A femme Tam Dao, with more sandalwood than cedar.
Haven’t tried any others, but plan to!
Thanks nebbe – I will keep that one in mind!
The only one I’ve tried is Kashmir Spice. I just dug out my sample to refresh my memory–it’s warm, spicy, has a hit of cinnamon but overall isn’t too food-y. I wish I could help you out with the musks. I also find it frustrating not knowing when I won’t be able to smell a major part of a scent, or when it might be entirely blotted out after 20-30 minutes. I like the trend of perfumers identifying some of the aromachemicals in their note lists; if it catches on, maybe I’ll eventually get a handle on which musks are a problem for me.
Isn’t it annoying!
Thanks for the info about Kashmir Spice. I love almost anything with cinnamon:)
SOTD: LOUKHOUM by Keiko Mecheri
It is overcast and gloomy out, I wanted something happy and cheery!; this one definitely fits the bill, sweet and yummy!
Slept too late; grumpy because the world is biased against non-morning people and also that my work pants are all getting too tight. Chose Chanel Cristalle as my SOTD – it is bright, sparkling, fresh, and sophisticated, and was hoping the scent would make me feel that way too 😉
It worked, so now I need to go buy a whole bottle because I am quickly draining my sample!
I hear you on not being a morning person. It bugs me when people expect me to be all cheerful and sociable before 10 A.M. I need that T-shirt that says “I’m out of bed and dressed, what more do you want?” I am having a week of stay-at-home vacation this week, and am relishing the rare luxury of sleeping until I wake up, rather than being awoken by a harsh electronic beeping in my ear.
Yay for non-morning people!
Woke up super late today (the only witness is my cat and she is nice not to complain about it …), and wearing Acqua di Parma Ginepro di Sardegna.
Ha! I blame one of my cats for making me late – he thinks 7 am is cuddle time for some reason …
Sounds like a great vacation to me! There is nothing like waking up on your own with no where to be 🙂
I am not a morning person either, but because of my son’s school hours have gotten used to being up at 6:30 during the school year. Have not learned to like it though!
Ah my people! If I never had to do anything before about noon, I’d be happy.
Sing it, sister!
SOTD: Jicky pdt. Just because I’ve been in a Jicky mood lately. I’ve been wearing extrait a lot, but pulled out my decant of the pdt this a.m. (one iteration I don’t have a bottle of) Whew! It is way dirtier than the extrait!
SOTD: Yuzu Rouge by Parfums 06130
I had purchased a number of samples off of Ebay and last night poured them from a dabber into a sprayer to see if there was any difference. It’s a nice scent, but there’s a weird note or combination of notes to my nose. Not sure if its the yuzu fruit, or something else.
It doesn’t last all that long either, but I’m sure many enjoy this in the summer months.
Thanks for bringing up Yuzu Rouge — I should locate my sample as I remember liking it. I am so behind, but I just read on Perfume Shrine that Chandler Burr had it in his Untitled Series. I was also so happy to read (and again embarrassingly late) that he also had Hylnds Isle Ryder. Wow, I wish I participated in Untitled Series …
Wanted something citrusy and “clean” today, so I’ve layered Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet with Fragonard’s Eau Fantasque.
And SOTE is Dzing!. (I like to keep the exclamation point in the title, but I also want to be clear that I’m not just using it to connote wild enthusiasm, though I do love it).
SOTD is Mechant Loup (L’Artisan). Probably a mistake, the air is super humid and dense today, should have gone with something a bit lighter.
Fleur de Louis. Feeling very femme in my kicky new haircut. This frag rounds out the theme.
Yay for kicky new hair.
Seville a L’Aube today, I always find it bright, deep and invigorating and I could use some vigor this morning 🙂
Prada Infusion d’Iris EDP. Love this, feels so perfectly there but not. I’m always surprised how it feels so slight on, yet people will still notice and compliment it.
Also wearing this today! For just the reasons you outlined. Perfect for work, especially with meetings.
This morning I dabbed 🙂
SOTD is Histoires de Parfums 1725, from a sample. I’m not sure where I got this from, it’s clearly a masculine, barbershop-y fougere. Not what I had in mind, but I have a bad time keeping scents straight that are numbered or lettered–I need a name! It’s quite powdery and has an almond note that will make me scrub it in a little while. I’m not too fond of powder or almond.
Wearing ELDO Vraie Blonde today. I think it kind of matches the top I’m wearing today: kind of a sheer champagne color with a black dot design, with a cream-colored camisole underneath. Wasn’t really intentional, but now that I’m thinking about it, it feels right.
I often try to match my scent to my clothes 🙂
Sounds like a great outfit + scent combo!
Vetiver pour elle, perfect for a hot central European day!
Artisan by John Varvatos
Wearing Guerlain Encens Mythique D’Orient, influenced by the Rich Lady post of yesterday.
it’s been one of those rare hot days in western Sweden and I wore Knize Ten, from a sample. Maybe not ideally thought out – leather in the heat – but it worked alright I thought! It’s not a suffocating, enveloping fragrance, I think. Soaring leather? Is there such a thing? But whoa I love it so much!! I absolutely need a full bottle! SIGH my to-buy list is growing long…
My SotD is April Aromatics Liquid Dreams.
Also, I had a first test of Parfums de Nicolai Musc Manoi. Am planning to review it in a couple of days.
SOTD is Balenciaga. I have a lunch date in a little while and it seems like a good one; light yet substance.
?? for all of you, I’ll be in Vegas in 2 weeks and need some places to visit for perfume? What casinos have good boutiques? Thanks for any help.
Seriously, all the luxury casinos have luxury boutiques to match. The Palazzo & Venetian both have great stores, so does the Wynn. And the mall (Fashion something, forget the name) is pretty nice too. I forget now which hotel the Guerlain boutique is in, but it’s very much worth a trip.
There is a Guerlain boutique in the Palazzo shops.
In the Cosmpolitan hotel there is a Skins 6|2 Cosmetics that—at least when I was there about two years ago—had a great selection of perfumes… Serge Lutens, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Diptyque, Santa Maria Novella, By Kilian, Tokyo Milk, probably some others I’m forgetting.
A very cool and sometimes-rainy day made me want a cozy, comforting scent today, a rarity in almost mid-June. My choice was La Maisson de la Vanille’s Vanille Divine des Tropiques, tropical florals and sweet cupcake vanilla. Almost too sweet and suffocating at first, once some of the florals – tuberose, jasmine, gardenia – softly (fortunately!) make their appearance and the vanilla settles down, the scent works well for a chilly, misty/moisty day.
I’m wearing Bonjour L’Amour by Anna Sui. I’m seeing my boyfriend tonight, which is unusual (we can usually only get together on the weekends due to our respective work schedules), and it’s one of his favorites!
Delrae Emotionelle! Because I felt like it.
Un Jardin en Méditerranée, because it’s nice in warmer weather.
A*Men Pure Coffee, because 1) I was getting a ride to work with someone and didn’t want to risk offending the driver with anything interesting, and 2) Pre Coffee is probably the best of the A*Men flankers, still recognizably A*Men but with that one element exaggerated as far as it will go.
Tried a sample of Amouage Dia Woman today. Radiant and classically pretty, but not really my style. There is something in there that reminds me of some version of Chanel No. 5, but I’m not sure what it is.
I think I sprayed on some Hanae Mori this morning but it’s long gone now so I can’t be sure.
Good day NST family. My SOTD is Sensuous Noir from Estee Lauder. No particular reason for my choice. Hope everyone is having a great day.
I’m wearing Esprit d’Oscar, I love it in the warm weather we are having today (although it also works in the winter). And I can still smell it after a long day at work!
I really like Esprit d’Oscar.
SOTD = Tauer Zeta
I underapplied but loved it nonetheless.
Trying out Sunflowers, my latest Marshalls acquisition. The yellow box suggested summer. It’s very rich, so I think it would be best in late August when the fields of sunflowers are ready to harvest. (Prettiest crop in Colorado.)
SOTD was L’ambre Des Merveilles, as the days are getting cooler and it was raining.
SOTE- after work I went to collect a couple of perfumes I bought cheap in the local classifieds- Guerlain Jardin Sur le Toit (which I wanted to finish the collection 🙂 ), and I got Calvin Klein Contradiction too only coz it was so cheap. I one on each hand but I doubt I’ll ever wear the CK- I just don’t do his style.
I am wearing Le Labo Lys 41, which I absolutely love. My son, who is 3 1/2, loves it too. He says, “Mommy, can I smell your perfume. It smells beautiful.” Later today I put on Wit, a sample, which I really like. It’s beautiful. Should I buy a full bottle? I don’t know. I am spending most of my clothing budget on perfume as I have some birth weight to lose.
SOTD is L’Artisan Vanille Absolument, which I got recently in a swap. I chose it because we’re finally getting our June Gloom here in So. Cal., and I wanted to wear it again before it gets hot. It’s being overshadowed now by the Ava Luxe Kashmir Spice I have dabbed on one arm.
So I take it that Kashmir Spice is not a wimp!
SOTD Killian Good Girl Gone Bad, love it and get lots of compliments. Love Bobbi Brown Beach too , it seems to be the very popular these days in Miami.
