Tuesday scent of the day 6/10

Posted by Robin on 10 June 2014 93 Comments

Lemon slices and mint

Happy Tuesday! Care to tell us your scent of the day, and why you thought it would fit today?

I'm wearing Guerlain Limon Verde, and I picked it for the simple reason that I'm finishing up my review.

Reminder: this Friday (Friday the 13th!) wear your own version of 'Eau de Protection',* i.e. something that brings you good luck or otherwise makes you feel safe and happy. The following Friday, the 20th, will be Fruity Friday. And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.

*named for Etat Libre d'Orange Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection

Today, a very generous application (head to toe, literally) of Guerlain’s Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat. Sunshine and happiness in a bottle. Love it.

I’m wearing Cuir de Nacre. It’s cold and drizzling rain this morning and a warmish leather scent seemed like a good fit.

SOTD is Chanel Beige, picked because I have a little pile of untried samples and this one seemed the likeliest to be appropriate at work. I did a quick sniff-through of the Exclusifs when I was in Vegas and noted down my favorites to order samples, but now I’m not sure why this one spoke to me. It’s… fine. Certainly no flaws to call out. Not even quite so inoffensive as to be offensive, the way some department store frags can be. I like the honeyed dry-down okay but not as well as the similar note in Sensuous Nude and I think I am biased against freesia. Shoulda worn Wilde again!

That’s just it. And, update: Beige petered out by 11:30 so I walked to the boutique to sniff some things over lunch, grabbed a spritz of Sensuous Noir and promptly got a compliment on that from the guy in the frozen yogurt shop.

Beige is definitely more elegant and SN takes it beachy — but I noticed some similarities in the soft white flowers, the clean, not too sweet, velvety honey and the light wear of them, and I really just wanted to be at the beach instead!

MPG Ambre Precieux. A cool rainy day and it’s one of the only ambers I like/can wear without it going all masculine on me. Thinking I need a small decant as I only have a sample at the moment…

Today it’s Ralph Lauren “Glamorous”. I bought this bottle 8 or 9 years ago on a whim at TJ Maxx because I thought it was a happy scent. Cost me $19.95. Now these are selling on ebay for $200 and up. I wish I’d bought all TJ’s had and held on to them for investment purposes! lol

I feel this way in discount stores all the time. What if I never find it again? The worst is I’m always convincing myself things could be good trade bait…. Or I could skip buying the trade bait and spend my money on things I know I want?

I’ve been falling into this vortex, buying up bottles of things from discounters that I like, but don’t definitively love, then waiting to see if something I like better will come in, or just returning many of them. I’m asking the same question: shouldn’t I stop spending money on things I kinda like and buy the one thing that I’ll love (whatever that is….)?

It was a long weekend here in Greece and we went to a seaside town to enjoy the sea and sun. On those occasions, I go fragrance-free, so I had not worn anything since last Friday.
Unfortunately the weather was awful – rain, wind and even hale (!). At least it was warm. It was funny being on the beach and suddenly seeing black clouds gathering, then having to run. It felt kind of sub-tropical.

SOTD was Lys Soleia, to make up for the sun I missed. I enjoyed it for the first four hours or so, then it faded. I can still smell it on my wrist, but that’s all. Really beautiful, though.

One spritz of Ubar today. The other day I tried a few and found it really oppressive. Only problem today is I’m really sneezey and not sure if it’s the scent or something else.

I had a question for all my American friends:) I know someone going to the US and was considering some scents from Ava Luxe. I am very picky, but I like layering so I could perhaps use these in that way if they are not to my taste. Do you have favourites from her collection and has anyone tried her patchouli?

The only one I’ve tried is Kashmir Spice. I just dug out my sample to refresh my memory–it’s warm, spicy, has a hit of cinnamon but overall isn’t too food-y. I wish I could help you out with the musks. I also find it frustrating not knowing when I won’t be able to smell a major part of a scent, or when it might be entirely blotted out after 20-30 minutes. I like the trend of perfumers identifying some of the aromachemicals in their note lists; if it catches on, maybe I’ll eventually get a handle on which musks are a problem for me.

I hear you on not being a morning person. It bugs me when people expect me to be all cheerful and sociable before 10 A.M. I need that T-shirt that says “I’m out of bed and dressed, what more do you want?” I am having a week of stay-at-home vacation this week, and am relishing the rare luxury of sleeping until I wake up, rather than being awoken by a harsh electronic beeping in my ear.

SOTD: Yuzu Rouge by Parfums 06130
I had purchased a number of samples off of Ebay and last night poured them from a dabber into a sprayer to see if there was any difference. It’s a nice scent, but there’s a weird note or combination of notes to my nose. Not sure if its the yuzu fruit, or something else.
It doesn’t last all that long either, but I’m sure many enjoy this in the summer months.

SOTD is Histoires de Parfums 1725, from a sample. I’m not sure where I got this from, it’s clearly a masculine, barbershop-y fougere. Not what I had in mind, but I have a bad time keeping scents straight that are numbered or lettered–I need a name! It’s quite powdery and has an almond note that will make me scrub it in a little while. I’m not too fond of powder or almond.

Seriously, all the luxury casinos have luxury boutiques to match. The Palazzo & Venetian both have great stores, so does the Wynn. And the mall (Fashion something, forget the name) is pretty nice too. I forget now which hotel the Guerlain boutique is in, but it’s very much worth a trip.

There is a Guerlain boutique in the Palazzo shops.

In the Cosmpolitan hotel there is a Skins 6|2 Cosmetics that—at least when I was there about two years ago—had a great selection of perfumes… Serge Lutens, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Diptyque, Santa Maria Novella, By Kilian, Tokyo Milk, probably some others I’m forgetting.

A very cool and sometimes-rainy day made me want a cozy, comforting scent today, a rarity in almost mid-June. My choice was La Maisson de la Vanille’s Vanille Divine des Tropiques, tropical florals and sweet cupcake vanilla. Almost too sweet and suffocating at first, once some of the florals – tuberose, jasmine, gardenia – softly (fortunately!) make their appearance and the vanilla settles down, the scent works well for a chilly, misty/moisty day.

Good day NST family. My SOTD is Sensuous Noir from Estee Lauder. No particular reason for my choice. Hope everyone is having a great day.

I’m wearing Esprit d’Oscar, I love it in the warm weather we are having today (although it also works in the winter). And I can still smell it after a long day at work!

    SOTD = Tauer Zeta

I underapplied but loved it nonetheless.

Trying out Sunflowers, my latest Marshalls acquisition. The yellow box suggested summer. It’s very rich, so I think it would be best in late August when the fields of sunflowers are ready to harvest. (Prettiest crop in Colorado.)

SOTD was L’ambre Des Merveilles, as the days are getting cooler and it was raining.
SOTE- after work I went to collect a couple of perfumes I bought cheap in the local classifieds- Guerlain Jardin Sur le Toit (which I wanted to finish the collection 🙂 ), and I got Calvin Klein Contradiction too only coz it was so cheap. I one on each hand but I doubt I’ll ever wear the CK- I just don’t do his style.

I am wearing Le Labo Lys 41, which I absolutely love. My son, who is 3 1/2, loves it too. He says, “Mommy, can I smell your perfume. It smells beautiful.” Later today I put on Wit, a sample, which I really like. It’s beautiful. Should I buy a full bottle? I don’t know. I am spending most of my clothing budget on perfume as I have some birth weight to lose.

SOTD is L’Artisan Vanille Absolument, which I got recently in a swap. I chose it because we’re finally getting our June Gloom here in So. Cal., and I wanted to wear it again before it gets hot. It’s being overshadowed now by the Ava Luxe Kashmir Spice I have dabbed on one arm.

So I take it that Kashmir Spice is not a wimp!

SOTD Killian Good Girl Gone Bad, love it and get lots of compliments. Love Bobbi Brown Beach too , it seems to be the very popular these days in Miami.
