McCain, the world's largest producer of frozen French fries, has created a potato-scented taxi to advertise their "ready baked jackets" (frozen baked potatoes that cook in 5 minutes) in the UK.
McCain's potato experts have used their specialist knowledge to recreate the warm delicious scent of oven-baked potatoes which will emit from the giant jacket potato on the roof of the taxi. This will allow passers-by to enjoy the appetising aroma of warm jacket potatoes as it travels through London, Birmingham, Manchester, York, Leeds and Bristol with its sunset yellow and orange exterior creating a warm glow to everyone it passes.
The taxis started touring six UK cities on 18 November, and yes, passengers get a baked potato. Read more at McCain Creates the World's First Potato Scented Taxi at Prnewswire.
Last year, McCain scented bus shelters in the UK.
As if we were not already constantly assaulted by the smell of food on the streets of London. I managed to miss the McCain bus shelters – but they can’t have smelt worse than they do normally….
You would think it would be an improvement, but hey. Some time ago they scented bus shelters in San Francisco with chocolate cookies and people got so upset they had to remove the scent:

Who says no to cookies? And I certainly don’t pass up potatoes either…with bacon of course:D.
A quote from the NYT:
“Ms. Ireland said the advertisements had been met with complaints by anti-fragrance groups, anti-allergy groups and anti-obesity groups. (No word on how the pro-cookie groups felt.) She said the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency had asked the advertising company that handled the shelters, CBS Outdoor, to remove the fragrance on Tuesday.”
