Guerlain renovates flagship store in Paris

Posted by Robin on 23 November 2013 18 Comments

Guerlain, flagship boutique

Guerlain has renovated their flagship store at 68 Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris. The new store opens to consumers today, and is now 10,764 square-feet (it has doubled in size). The four story facility includes a restaurant, Le 68, run by French Michelin-starred chef Guy Martin.

American architect Peter Marino retained the marble floors and counters, and added a metal ceiling by the Haas Brothers and four chandeliers from Baccarat. Other features: a revamped beauty institute, separate spaces for men's fragrance, makeovers and home fragrance, and a "hall of mirrors" to display historic Guerlain collections.

Before you get all misty eyed about Mitsouko & Shalimar & whatnot, bear in mind that was all paid for by La Petite Robe Noire & Orchidée Impériale face creams 🙂

Looks a bit cold to my taste. I was hoping for a Guerlinade décor, something plusher and warmer.

Wish I could post more photos…that isn’t the look of the whole store. Here is one more large photo:

Have been trying to find a decent shot of the restaurant, but this is the best I’ve come up with so far:

Oh! You can watch a video of the Google Hangout they did yesterday. Looks like it shows lots of the store. It’s too long for me to watch the whole thing, but here it is:

Somehow, I think perfumeries tend to have “colder” personalities (e.g. Serge Lutens Palais Royal store). The companies would like you to feel warmer and plusher AFTER you wear their perfumes so the opposite environment will contrast better. Of course this is all speculation on my part 🙂

Interesting! I think this is one of the things I love at Aedes in NY — it feels like someone’s cozy (albeit, posh) living room.

I feel slightly claustrophobic at Aedes…love the selection but if there are more than 4 people browsing around, it feels crowded!

Makes sense. Like displaying a diamond on a black background. Still, I’m the kind of gal who prefers the dogs and a good old rug.
