Prada Candy L’Eau ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 19 February 2013 34 Comments

Prada Candy L’Eau

Prada will launch Candy L'Eau, a new variation on 2011's Prada Candy, in April. The new scent will be fronted by French actress Léa Seydoux, who also appeared in the original Candy advertising.

Candy L'Eau was developed by perfumer Daniela Andrier, who also did the 2011 Candy fragrance. The notes include citrus, floral notes, white musk, benzoin and caramel.

Prada Candy L'Eau will be available in 50 and 80 ml Eau de Toilette.

I’m sure the scent will be fine as long as Daniela Andrier’s behind it, but I can’t quite decide whether I like that pink and black color combination or not.

The color scheme seems dated somehow… the pink-black combo was really in a few years ago, i think.

Somewhere I read that sometimes the original perfumers get credit for the flankers even when they don’t always do the flankers. Can anyone comment on that?

I was just going to comment that! I think a lot of times the house perfumer gets a lot of credit when they don’t really do the hands-on stuff when it comes to flankers (I’ve noticed that lately with Guerlain retroactively giving Wasser credit on projects when other people did the work behind the scene). I do think Andrier seems pretty hands-on given that the releases under her name seem carry her signature.

Well, even w/ non-flankers, the “head of the team” often gets the credit even if s/he didn’t do most of the work. We rarely know about everybody who worked on a perfume.

Hard to tell from that “creamy” photo if it’s even really pink. If it is, it’s about the same color scheme that they just used for Balanciaga L’Eau Rose. Either way, I like it better than the hot pink they used for Candy!

I hope they do a male version, maybe Hard Candy Pour Homme?

I really like this color – to me it looks more like a pale peach or blush pink. I hope it’ll be noticeably different, not lighter – I never found Candy to be very strong – I mean presence, vs actual longevity.

Wild guess is that it will be more floral, but who knows!

I found that the candy/caramel note wore off soon but what stayed was a very cheap musk note :-p hope the musk is better in this one…

Where there’s an L’Eau, there surely must be an Intense to follow. I adore Candy but just wish it lasted longer and wore a bit stronger. This gives me hope but L’Eau sounds pretty for the summer. :)

I think Candy is perfumista-approved Aquolina Pink Sugar so I am looking forward to this release. Not.

I do think that photo is tres retro-chic though.

I quite like the packaging actually. The original is a bit cheap, silly and garish. This one looks much more sophisticated.

I will still probably make the mistake of trying to pull off the “cap” that’s actually the sprayer!

It looks very much like the packaging for the first Prada fragrance. Amber. So not quite a copy, but back to the roots. Interesting marketing choice.
And yes, everybody makes an L’eau….

The color scheme does look rather retro 50s.

I actually like the garish packaging of Prada Candy- Hot Pink! Black! Gold! and yum. This one looks washed out but I’ve never let ugly packaging stop me from trying something.

Same, I find nothing wrong with the original packaging’s color scheme, and plenty right with it. This reminds me a little too much of Narciso for Her – self-consciously elegant/feminine/modern rather than bold and interesting.

Ohhh, I am excited! My daughter took the first Candy as her signature frag, so I don’t even try to wear it. I just told her the news and she said I could claim this as mine! Hope it has some rose (love) and no lily (headache!)…

The original is one of my guilty pleasures and I have long flirted with the idea of buying a 30ml bottle. This sounds rather lovely too and I like the packaging/colour. It suggests something lighter more spring like than the gourmand pleasures of the stronger coloured original. Oh I’ve just noticed – points OFF for no 30ml bottle in this version!

Doesn’t this one makes you think of Dita Von Teese? I would bet she will pull that off wonderfully! I can totally see her in the add!
