Jo Malone Sugar & Spice ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 10 December 2012 20 Comments

Jo Malone Sugar & Spice visual

Jo Malone will follow 2011's Tea Fragrance Blends collection with Sugar & Spice, a new limited edition quintet inspired by "quintessential British pudding" flavors. Look for them in March.

The Sugar & Spice fragrances were developed by perfumer Christine Nagel. The fragrances are Lemon Tart, Redcurrant & Cream, Elderflower & Gooseberry, Ginger Biscuit and Bitter Orange & Chocolate. (I will update with individual notes when I can.)

The Jo Malone Sugar & Spice collection will be available in 30 ml Cologne, £38 each or £190 for the set.

Update: some brief fragrance notes ~

Lemon Tart ~ citrus fruits, verbena, meringue and lemon thyme.

Redcurrant & Cream ~ redcurrants, strawberries, raspberries and creamy musk.

Elderflower & Gooseberry ~ gooseberries, lychee and elderflower.

Ginger Biscuit ~ ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla.

Bitter Orange & Chocolate ~ orange, cocoa, coconut and coumarin.

Undina mentioned about them not so long ago. The packaging looks great and so the lemming is born to try them.

So many Jo Malones are screechy dog whistle scents to me, but I love when Christina Nagel makes dessert perfumes. I am excited to try these but my excitement is tempered. :S

Mmm, orange and chocolate sounds so good.
Wasn’t really impressed with Blackberry and Bay..smelled like a wood shop, I like woody but meh, that’s too woody.

I mean, at least for that scent, I was looking for something else I guess.

I’ve gone from really loving Jo Malone (Black Vetyver Café, Red Roses) to really dislike Jo Malone (any from the tea collection), to not even paying attention to the line anymore.

Maybe it is time to revisit the line again?

I am not a huge fan of Jo Malone and these look too edible for my taste, but I think Blackberry & Bay was nice. Perfect for those Austenesque walks in the autumn rain – not that I had many, but the ones I had were mostly inspired by B&B :).

No blancmange, spotted dick, plum pudding, or custard? ;)

Exactly! Before I read the details, I was thinking “why wait till March to bring out pudding fragrances, as they would be ideal now during the cold, winter months?”. Sticky toffee pudding was particularly on my mind …. And then when I read what they would be, I realised that they are only “light” desserts. We’ll have to wait for someone else to create essence of spotted dick, treacle tart or Sussex pond pudding!

My first reaction is to kind of object because these sound like they could be absolutely awful. Like I could see Hello Kitty coming out with a similar fragrance collection (although everything of hers at Target seems to be scented with Bubblegum or Cotton Candy blegh). Hopefully JM will manage to make them nice and pretty. I can’t really think of any of the fragrances in the arc or past LEs that were super foody so perhaps there’s hope. And maybe Lemon Tart will last longer than the 10 minutes Sweet Lemon gave me.

I am desperately trying to find a gourmand scent that doesnt make me want to bleed myself to death. My husband got me Mona de Orio Vanille and I like it a lot since it is well, not really a gourmand scent. If it werent for the excessive amount of clover that tickles my noe, I would love it. I will try some of these perfumes and see if I can find anything I like. Any suggestions?

I’m interested in redcurrant & cream. Yummy.
But what I want to know is: Where is the Bailey’s Irish Cream Cheesecake??? LOL

CLEO777, you would love it. That fragrance smells delicious! Get it while you can because the girls at Neiman Marcus says they won’t be around too much longer.

Anytime anything new comes out from the Jo Malone line, I am at Neiman Marcus ready to try it. I bought two fragrances from the “Sugar and Spice” collection; Elderflower & Gooseberry and Redcurrant & Cream. Elderflower….really didn’t do it for me. I now just layer it with my other JM fragrances to get a different scent. I love, love, love Redcurrant & Cream! It smells amazing by itself, but smells absolutely delicious with Blackberry & Bay. Although my signature fragrance is Nectarine & Honey Blossom, I do like to dabble in some of the other JM fragrances. Once again, I always tell people that Jo Malone fragrances are like an acquired taste; you either really love it or you really hate it! I absolutely love it!
