Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial L’Eau ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 2 February 2012 26 Comments

Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial L'Eau

Guerlain has launched Shalimar Parfum Initial L'Eau, a flanker to last year's Shalimar Parfum Initial, itself a flanker to 1925's Shalimar.

Indulge in the utter femininity of the Guerlain Shalimar Initiale Eau de L'Eau Toilette, a lighter and more carefree way to experience the romantic essence of Shalimar Parfum Initiale.

Guerlain Shalimar Initiale L'Eau is a scent with a rich heritage steeped in utter femininity. Where Parfum Initiale delicately embraces the spicy warmth of the mythic Shalimar scent, new interpretation Shalimar Initiale L'Eau focuses upon greenery and freshness. An overdose of citrus notes immediately lifts the composition with sparkling bergamot and orange, while an additional dose of sense-sharpening grapefruit and neroli reveals an energising facet.

The voluptuous iris and grandiflora jasmine heart of the original is made more transparent with added green notes and precious Damascena rose. This settles into a decadent drydown of tonka bean with its succulent almond facet, and a carnal vanilla note.

Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial L'Eau can be found now at Escentual in the UK, in 40, 60 or 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

A flanker of another flanker? Guerlain is jumping on the L’eau bandwagon!

I agree. But the Homme flanker, does sound interesting! This sounds like, just another flanker.

The Homme is more appealing to me too, but then, I didn’t like Shalimar Parfum Initial at all.

It really is — best bottle ever, IMHO.

Well, those are urns…they keep those in the Caron boutiques to fill the bottles.

I thought we could buy them for a little fortune. Lol. But Shalimar bottles really are on my top ten list of bottles. ;)

I’m willing to give it an open mind though. Shalimar parfum initial was a nice fragrance, just not my type. This may just be as good

They’re going to keep making it more and more “transparent” until it smells like a used dryer sheet, aren’t they?

Eau. Eau dear. “…a lighter and more carefree way to experience the romantic essence of Shalimar Parfum Initiale”? How much lighter can they get? I couldn’t smell Initiale on a fellow perfumista’s skin when I held my nose an inch away from her arm. Guerlain must be trying to lure the portion of the population that doesn’t like perfume: “Wear Shalimar Parfum Initiale L’Eau and you won’t smell like anything!”.

    So much for the proto-oriental.

“Carnal vanilla”? Umm, okay. I’ll still give this a sniff when I see it though. Initial was the first Shalimar that worked for me.

Definitely want to try this one. Love the Initial so the L’eau is a must try.

On the one hand, I’ll definitely give this a try, on the theory that almost any Guerlain is worth at least a sniff. On the other, as I read the description, it almost seemd as if it could be paraphrased this way: “Shalimar! But completely different…” Seriously, doesn’t this sound like a different scent altogether?

I was ready to pan the very idea of a “L’Eau” for a fragrance that was pretty damn light to begin with, but the notes in this actually sound rather lovely. (Ad copy that actually makes me want to smell the fragrance? Get OUT.) Of course, it sounds nothing like Shalimar aside from the citrus and vanilla…and while I’m on the topic, I don’t find the current Shalimar particularly “old-fashioned” smelling, just very sweet and rich. Can the young’uns really not pull it off? Has it not been modernized enough?

    Kids today, can’t please ’em…

I was just reading your post about the next stage of perfumista-dom and finding it difficult to peg myself. (Though the question about the last dazzling perfume is more easily answered the same way you did – Azemour.) Then I read this and my reactions went from a brief pin prick of irritation to a fit of yawning (a flanker of a flanker). It is the House of Guerlain (many of whose creations are loved by me) which is cynical not me. Whilst I have no need or desire to hunt down most new releases let alone own them I am still open to what I consider beauty.

hmm, they’re pretty quick at Guerlain with the flankers (of flankers)! Love Parfum Initial, it’s very pretty. And the bottle is so cute (I know people who were not really thrilled by the juice but kept it because of the bottle lol).
