Marc Jacobs Splash Tropical 2012 ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 29 November 2011 11 Comments

Marc Jacobs Tropical Splash 2012

Marc Jacobs will launch his latest set of limited edition Splash fragrances, the Splash Tropical Collection, in early 2012. Rain, from the original 2006 collection, is returning for another season, and will be joined by two new fragrances, Hibiscus and Kumquat. This year, the old 300 ml bottle will be replaced with a 100 ml cube-shaped bottle.

Hibiscus ~ a fruity floral with raspberry, mandarin, peony, hibiscus, tiare, freesia, musk, woods and vetiver. "The luscious shade of bright pink leaves you dreaming of a tropical paradise".

Kumquat ~ a citrus floral with tangerine, bergamot, orange zest, kumquat, jasmine, tiger orchid, woods and cedar. "The energizing shade of orange transports you to a carefree afternoon of fun and sun".

Marc Jacobs Hibiscus and Kumquat were developed by perfumer Richard Herpin, and will be available in 100 ml.

Yay for smaller bottles!. Kumquat sounds as if it has potential with the orange zest and cedar. I’ll seek it out (if I remember) in spring but tight now loving my autumn winter faves!

The smaller bottles seem like a good idea…wonder what they’re going to charge for them.

That’s quite a downsize! I always thought they were huge bottle because they’re a cologne concentration, which requires lots of application. I’m also curious to see what the pricing will be. It does seem to be more economically sensible for production, though. And those little cube bottles are adorable. Neither of these appeal to me according to the notes, though. But if Kumquat is anything like the old Comptoir Sud Pacifique one, I may just have to cave.

It is quite a downsize, and so assume the last couple collections maybe didn’t do as well? Who knows. Even in cologne concentration it’s pretty rare for companies to do 10 oz bottles.

If the original bottles were 300ml, it must have been a very dilute scent (hence the splash term). Those are usually so short-lived it’s not even worth using them. There are lots of very good summery tropical scents out there. I don’t think I need another insipid or quickly-dissipating one.

So far, they’ve been pretty light and short lived, yes.

Ohhh, these could be really cute and fun and I agree, the bottles are adorable. But these could also easily veer into artificially flavored fruit cocktail… we’ll see.

I love Rain, but there is no chance I will ever finish my 300ml bottle!

I definitely have to try Hibiscus when it’s released. What’s the betting that it won’t cost 1/3 of the original price though? ;-)

I guess they finally realised they were practically giving away the stuff with the 300ml bottles, especially here in Australia when they cost just AUD49 during discount season.

I wanted to love these, but they all were very soapy smelling to me.

I love the smaller bottles. I keep a bottle of lemon in the fridge but it is just so unwieldy I can hardly handle it.
