Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 14 November 2011 48 Comments

Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb

Viktor & Rolf will launch Spicebomb, a new spicy woody oriental fragrance for men, in early 2012. Spicebomb is styled as the 'new explosive fragrance', and will be fronted by model Sean O'Pry.

The notes include bergamot, pink pepper, cinnamon, vetiver, red pepper and tobacco accord.

Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb will be available in 50 and 90 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching grooming products.

(via press materials, hat tip to Mathieu)

Update: Spicebomb was developed by perfumer Olivier Polge, and additional notes include chili, saffron, leather, grapefruit and elemi. It will launch in the US in March 2012.

Ha! And I’m thinking the opposite: spicy woody oriental with tobacco, YES, stupid hand grenade bottle NO. :)

HA..two views! I do think this bottle is going to get way more attention than they got for Antidote, which I think sort of fizzled out.

I loved Antidote (including the bottle)… This bottle looks very lame in my opinion though, but I’m almost certain the scent will make up for that.

As I said above, not sure Antidote did well — and certainly nothing on the order of Flowerbomb. This bottle is pretty much guaranteed to get more attention, negative AND positive.

I’m sure it will get more attention and I guess that’s why they made the bottle so ‘loud’…
I hope it’s success will be more like Flowerbomb than Antidote, but I sure hope the quality of the scent will be more like Antidote. But I guess that’s just a personal opinion, since I know a few people who enjoyed and still enjoy Flowerbomb.

      Hi Timothy,
I am from South Africa. My favourite perfume is Antidote, but since last year I cannot get hold of it. Can you still find it?

I think the bottle’s great, but I’m skeptical of the scent until I smell it (as good as the notes sound). I found Antidote almost unwearable…

Spicebomb? I wonder what it will actually smell like since Flowerbomb smells like vanillabomb. I do want to sniff this though!

The notes sound like I would like it. But then again, you never know. Don’t love or hate the bottle. It just depends on how well it sits in the hand.

I love spice, would be interested in giving this one a try. I’m just starting to appreciate tobacco in fragrances, I’ll be looking forward to seeing how this develops on skin. And I love the bottle too! Very. Cute.

The cynical side of me predicts this won’t live up to its name – I adore a good spice bomb of scent – but I’m definitely intrigued. Red pepper, cinnamon and tobacco are good signs. Pink pepper is not. (Shouldn’t it be black pepper, given that this is a masculine? Also, is pink pepper some kind of IFRA-instituted requirement for all fragrances since 2010?) The bottle’s a bit Diesel-ish, trying too hard to look “macho”, but I like that they continued the grenade aesthetic from Flowerbomb. I predict this will be a huge hit.

looking at the notes, it looks like Spicebomb will be a mixture of D&G the one men and Marc Jacobs Bang. I’d rather have D&G

    I’ll stick to Flowerbomb ;)

Cannot understand why the bottle controversy. It’s just a bottle! And at least it matches the name and it’s linked with the feminine flowerbomb. Same thing for the notes, they don’t seem nothing really different from what is being launched. So i guess that it’ll be another case of much ado about nothing, and just because of the bottle. Anyway, it seems good, i hope that the scent use wisely the notes listed and that it really is the spice bomb that the name implies.

This is out on shelves in David Jones in Australia now. Bottle doesn’t look too bad in real life. I don’t detect any tobacco at all, and it is not as spicy – and certainly not as “explosive” – as the copy might suggest. In fact I found it to be quite sweet, almost gourmand, and to my nose it smells very similar to Gucci’s Pour Homme II, only “sweatier”.

I got to try the tester at Nordstrom 2day! SO bummed I couldn’t get me a bottle and they only had the small lab tester so I couldn’t even get a sample. BUMMER! So totally disregard the name because it definitely isn’t the SPICE bomb that the name implies. Which is fine w/ me because I was so scared that it was going to smell like TM A*MEN Taste of Fragrance. THANK goodness it doesn’t because that is some pretty SCARY chili to me. Haha! It reminded me of something and all I could think of was Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille. But it’s 100x lighter, which is a good thing because TV became too sickly strong and syrupy sweet to me. I’m having a terrible time describing it but I could not have enjoyed it more. The smell is long gone from my wrist sadly. The dry down reminded me of something SO much but I couldn’t, and still can’t, put my finger on it. Hopefully it will come to me when I test it again. Robin I SO hope you test it and LOVE it! Haha! : )

See above…it has been compared to Hermes Ambre Narguile, but that’s a much more expensive scent. And nobody is going to know you’re wearing a men’s scent anyway…I wear quite a few men’s scents myself.
