Guerlain Habit Rouge L’Eau ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 16 September 2011 22 Comments

Guerlain Habit Rouge L'Eau

Guerlain has launched Habit Rouge L'Eau, a new modern variation on their classic 1965 fragrance for men, Habit Rouge.

Habit Rouge embodies a man who is unpredictable and magnificent, with a thirst for refinement and capable of any feat of daring. He leads his life with passion and his distinguished style combines sophistication and sensuality. Habit Rouge L’Eau is a fresh, modernised orchestration of Habit Rouge’s olfactory signature. The radiance of citrus blends with the sensuality of oriental notes to create a freshness that breaks free from the norm. With its rigorous forms, square shoulders and modern geometry, its bottle is a timeless expression of elegance and balance.

Habit Rouge L'Eau was developed by Guerlain house perfumer Thierry Wasser. The notes for the fresh oriental include bitter orange, hazelnut, jasmine, vanilla and patchouli.

Guerlain Habit Rouge L'Eau is available now at Sephora in France, in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

    WOW!
    Such a good news.

I have HR Eau de Toilette Légére: do You if they’re similar?

Can’t say how similar they might be since I’ve never smelled this one, sorry!

Habit Rouge is a gorgeous creation.

    Wish I could wear it.

The original is gorgeous, but suffocating on my skin: the Legere version is a great improvement. This one could be even better, if they’re serious about the hazelnut.

Must try. My husband can’t wear HR to his conservative workplace. I love HR! (on me as well)

Really? I don’t think of it as an edgy fragrance!

It’s worth seeking out the original if you can find it — great scent.

So they took out the leather? :(

I doubt it — then it would not be Habit Rouge? — but you never know.

I sprayed this on myself quite a few times in France recently.

I think the basic Habit Rouge accord is almost impossible to screw up, which is why, essentially, this new Eau smells pretty good. But I don’t really see why we need it. In a nutshell, it’s like regular Habit Rouge, but without the top and the bottom. So yes, some of the leather aspect is gone, and some of the powdery sweetness has been reduced.

    Worth trying, though.

How many Habit Rouge flankers are there now? Do any of them stand up to the original?

I don’t know how many they’ve done, but I think this is the only one still officially in production besides Habit Rouge Sport.

There’s the orginal EDC, EDT, and EDP. Then came Eau Legere, Sport and Parfum L’Extrait. There have been five limited edition bottles with EDT or EDP too: Armoiries, Prestige, Habit de Metal, Beau Cavalier, and a square one with metal edge.

Hazelnut sounds intriguing in a fragrance! If the jasmine and patchouli aren’t timid, air-freshener versions of themselves, this may be a winner….and the only fruit listed is *bitter* orange. I am optimistic.

What an old-fashioned and boring bottle. :S

I have a hard time with Habit Rouge, although I like the scent – it does kind of overwhelm me at mid-point, like Guerlains are wont to do. I’ll have to give this a try.

Just catching up on my NST feed and had to jump in here with an amusing tidbit. In his autobiography, Keith Richards says (regarding attracting women), “And you’re going wow, when I changed from Old Spice to Habit Rouge, things definitely got better.” :)
