Lazy Friday poll ~ scent the cast of Glee

Posted by Robin on 12 November 2010 117 Comments

Cast of Glee

Easy peasy: pick your favorite character, then pick the appropriate perfume.

If you don't watch Glee, feel free to scent a character from your favorite TV show.

My contribution:

I am a huge fan of Emma, as played by actress Jayma Mays. I don't know that I would have thought of it if I hadn't reviewed Love, Chloé this week, but I'm putting her in L'Artisan Drôle de Rose.

I’ll take the guys, grownups first:

    Will: John Varvatos EdT
    Burt (Kurt’s dad): Old Spice

Kurt: Clinique Happy for Men, but sometimes, when nobody’s looking, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle or maybe Chance Eau Tendre.

Finn: Abercrombie & Fitch Fierce – this is an upgrade, he used to use Axe

Blaine: D&G Anthology La Force 11, or possibly Polo Big Pony, numbers 1 or 4.

Puck: Brut and a whiff of Copenhagen Long Cut. He totally smells the best of all the cast.

I don’t know, I think Kurt would unabashedly wear either of those Chanels.

Kurt certainly subscribes to the Clinique beauty regiment, but I would upgrade the Happy to Joy de Patou.
Then again, with his cutting edge fashion, he might go in for Bang by Marc Jacobs, or one of the Tom Ford Private Blend…

Rachel would wear Diva as an aspirational scent/mantra.
Tina could wear Avignon or Etro’s Messe de Minuit
Finn is Abercrombie & Fitch all the way, although Rachel is trying to convert him to a clean-cut Eau Sauvage

as a theater lover, it is probably poor form that I don’t watch GLEE! (haven’t had time!). But I’m catching up on season 11 of SVU…I would scent Olivia Benson with Etat’s Like This…smoky, dark, yet feminine…

Theatre lovers have to love the Law and Orders; they kept NY theatre actors solvent with “day jobs” for years.

In the Life of Bryan bios, David Hyde Pierce, actually stated (as a jokey comparison to everyone else’s bio) that he never actually been on Law and Order.

I don’t know why, but I think that Number 6 would wear something very clean and soapy… and a bit metallic too. Something like Narciso Rodriguez Essence.

My dear Starbuck… well… I don’t think she uses any perfume at all.

Ha, ha – LOVE BSG and the idea of Six wearing Happy to fit in – LOL!

The Six in Gaius Baltar’s head smells like Christian Laudamiel’s S-ex (“space leather” per LT).

(For the uninitiated, Six is an android played by stunning former model and fine actressTricia Helfer.)

The whole series makes me think of moody, unconventional Duchaufour scents like Dzonka, Sienne L’Hiver and Timbuktu.

Sue- Nothing. No scent should detract from the clean, pristine lines of cheer-leading excellence. (She once made a similar comment about her requirement that all cheerleaders tie their hair back).

Sue’s sister (whose name I do not remember) however would wistfully wear L’Air du Temps.

Rachel wants to be the second coming of Barbra Streisand (minus the politics).. Since Ms. Streisand, is as far as I know, the only singer who does not have a signature scent. Therefore Rachel would wear something showy and loud. Since she wears 80’s type pants suits to high school, she’d probably wear a fragrance from the disco -eighties era, Poison, perhaps.

I meant that I don’t think Ms. Streisand markets her own scent. (Papa, Can You Smell Me? ),
Too bad, because she could make commercials slyly claiming that she has always been known as a remarkable “nose” and that she believes in “Liberally” splashing cologne.

Gothic Tina: Juliette has a Gun, Lady Vengeance (haven’t smelled it, but a dark rose fragrance is a good Gothic fit)
Naive, yet sex-crazed Brittany: Aquolina Pink Sugar or any Britney Spears perfume
Femme fatale Santana: something dark & smoky, but I can’t think what!

I dunno, Britt has espoused her strong dislike of Ms. Spears, since she’s Brittany S. Pierce. But yeah, I could totally smell her in _Fantasy_. I think she would also pull off one of the Escada summer fruit cocktails.

There is the notion that she would wear something *REALLY* skanky, because she likes the taste of her armpits on the lips of the guys she kisses…

Sorry, I haven’t seen Glee. But I so often think of that TV series, way back when: ‘Twin Peaks’. Laura Palmer, a fresh floral(think estee Lauder?), or sublime rose (think sa ma jest la rose) with maybe just a slight and shifting ribbon of leather or musk that is hardly discernible. Is there a totally angelic scent with a slight and hidden dark side?
As for agent Cooper – something with incense, and something of the woods, fille en an guille?
What do you know – my favourites of the Lutens range!

I find Agent Cooper difficult to match, partly because my library of masculines is very limited, but also because of his character. He’s so ordinary and deadpan, and he’s an investigator and witness, rather than an action hero – he takes in rather than projects.

Probably he just smells like an aftershave that he finds in the drugstore. Nothing spicy, warm or oriental like Old Spice, but rather something cool, some kind of slightly sad fougere. Maybe Dana Canoe?

Hey, watch what you say about Agent Cooper! I had a big crush on him 20 years back! LOL. I haven’t actually watched any of the series since but I had the impression that there was oh so much happening under that deadpan face. What with all the dreams of giants and tap dancing men that gave him clues in his dreams. And I somehow think of him as always out in the eerie forest, following some uncanny hunch…

        • nozknoz says:
          14 November 2010 at 8:44 pm

Oh, totally agree, Merlin: he was VERY appealing.

I haven’t actually sniffed fille en aiguilles yet, but the way you describe it sounds right for his soul. I imagine that in the Lynchian alternate universe, in which the very ordinary appears in saturated colors with a sinister twist, something from the drugstore might sometimes smell like a Lutens on the right person 😉

Miss Kitty, true enough I guess, but I’d still say I don’t find it intellectually stimulating, and the episodes I’ve liked least are those that didn’t emphasize the music as much. It’s just a great show when I need to chill.

I agree with Thalia about Emma smelling “clean” so I imagine her in the original Clean edp.

    Mercedes – Angel

Finn wears Adidas daily but he has a bottle of JPG Le Male for special occasions 🙂

Tina would love something like Eau d’Italie Paestum Rose but she wears Black XS and Alien.

Stacy and Clinton are always trying to get people to distinguish between work appropriate (except for the zookeeper, whom they acknowledged just needed to keep herself legal since part of her responsibilities were cleaning up after animals), errand wear (a euphemism for grocery shopping), and “evenings out.” They probably have several fragrances as well.

Since they are real people, you could probably post to the show and ask them.

Since I do not watch Glee, I’m going to scent the ladies of Gilmore Girls, one of my all-time favorite shows.
For Emily Gilmore (grandmother) something classic, traditional and beautiful to go with her daily wardrobe of Chanel suits and black pumps: Joy parfum.
For Lorelai Gilmore (mother) a sweet, spicy gourmand and something that would be the complete opposite of what her mother would wear: Angel or Lolita Lempicka.
For Rory Gilmore (granddaughter) something fresh and clean that wouldn’t distract her from her studies or her high standards: Clean Warm Cotton.

Sorry for being so late…teens involved in sports have taken over my life. I have never seen Glee either. But I adore the “Gilmore Girls” also. I love your choices, Prudietwoshoes!

For Matriarch Emily Gilmore, I agree with Patou’s Joy but I would also add FM’s Iris Poudre as an alternative. I also think she may keep FM’s Musc Ravageur hidden in her nightstand. :-O!

For Lorelai Gilmore (daughter) I think she would be drawn to Rich Hippie’s Psychedelic. But I can also see her secretly stashing a Chanel Bois des Iles because the apple does not fall as far from the tree as she thinks it does 😉

For Rory Gilmore (granddaughter) something airy and light. I think FM’s L’eau d’Hiver would be perfect . But she would also keep Hermès Kelly Caleche on the top of the dresser for her time with Grandma.

Good calls! Sookie might also wear something by Strange Invisble Perfumes, like Magazine Street. Pam not only Bandit but Etat Toreros et Vierges or that Cartier XIII. Leathers all the way!

Isn’t Pam the epitome of leather?? I have to try Magazine Street, is that the one with the ashtray notes?

Also not a Glee watcher, but a Glee-watching party dominated the latest episode of my favorite show, The Office. Dwight Schrute would undoubtedly wear something Machiavellian and cruel, like Or Black. But he’d also layer it with the ultimate fanboy geek scent, “Eau Lando” from the Star Wars Shop.

That episode was great. After that I could see someone talking Andy into wearing ELdO Secretions Magnifique, convincing him that it had aphrodisiacal powers.

I love the Office too, although still miss the British version — wish they’d done more than 2 seasons. And wish Ricky Gervais would start another series.

I don’t watch Glee. What channel is it on?

I’m a bit of a Trekkie and loved Jean-Luc Picard on The Next Generation. He would wear something very french perhaps Guerlain’s Imperial for daily wear on a starship. Perhaps L’Instant for men for evening wear.

      Guerlain for Picard – perfect!

I imagine MKK was a big hit among Klingons – as an eau fraiche 🙂

What scent would Snookie wear? I first heard of her SNL. I was stunned to realize the skit was based on a real person!

I say Angel Star or Alien!

I agree with all who have suggested Kurt would wear a Tom Ford PB scent. Since I have developed an intense dislike for Mr. Schuster and think he’s a man-whore, I’m going to put him in something smutty that barely passes for class… Obsession for Men? I take back what I said about Emma wearing Miss Dior: being the germaphobe, I’m going to assume her signature scent is Purell antibacterial gel. For Sue and for Brittney: I think they probably both wear something contradictory to what you’d expect. I can see Sue in something uber-girly that she’s worn since she was a teenager, like Anais Anais. Maybe her mom even wore it. And I’m going to choose to believe that Brittney is a closet perfumista. I bet she owns a whole wardrobe of classic Chanel and Dior, and indulges in a few goofy niche scents, like CdG Garage or Demeter Funeral Home. Just because she’s weird like that.

Mr. Schuester is much less likable this season. Probably a good move for the show as a whole, but too bad all the same.

This is fun. We get Glee from Netflix, so we’re always behind. I think Drole de Rose is perfect for Emma! She’s my favorite character. I’m trying to think of a fragrance for Principal Figgins. Insecure person in an authority position… hmmm… what do you think?

I was going to give him something like Hugo Boss, but he’s a likable character despite everything so perhaps he deserves better.

Funny – I thought of Hugo Boss, too! But ick. He has that exotic look, so maybe I’ll give him L’Eau du Gouverneur.

I read all of these – some are quite funny. (Love the Klingon eau fraiche! So apt.) Unfortunately I am wracking my brains trying to find a characet/scent match and coming up empty. I give up. Can’t do it.

Deciding instead that I’ll match the thickly foggy day, wear Black March and go off to write something vaguely spooky. Read ya’ll later!

I saw a few epis of Glee but didn’t get hooked.

    Arrested Development, however. . . .

Lucille Bluth: Amarige or Giorgio–something strong
Michael Bluth: Aqua di Gio–something mainstream and a bit dated
GOB Bluth: Overapplies Abercromie & Fitch because the young chicks dig it
Tobias Funke: Carnal Flower (thinks it’s a men’s cologne)
Maeby Funke: Something by Carnival Wax or JHAG
    Oscar Bluth: Headshop patchouli oil
    George Bluth: CK Escape
    George Michael Bluth: Ivory soap
    Buster Bluth: no frags

Only watched it once, cannot remember anything or anybody except for the weird woman coach….i can’t imagine her even bothering with a perfume, and if I had to choose one for her, it would have to be a kind of benetton/lacoste/something sporty, which I don’t thinks exists!

Glee isn’t broadcast in either Switzerland or France, so I’ll go with my favourite show of all times, Friday Night Lights. I’ve already thought this one through… Tauer’s Lonestar Memories smells like it was made for Tim Riggins. (I’m swooning just as much as a happily married woman can…)

I’m watching Glee season 1 from Netflix, and just this weekend I found out what Finn wears — he mentions being too exhausted to shower anymore, but it’s OK because he just covers it up with Drakkar Noir.

Does anyone on here watch Doctor Who?

Rose: hm, Flowerbomb, maybe? Or something similarly aspirationally popular and sweet?
Donna: Black Cashmere? With an eventual move to Ambre Narguile when someone really splurges for her?
Martha: Something niche and offbeat, but not too much so…hm. Not sure. On the tip of my brain, somehow.
Amy: This one is hard, because she annoys the crap out of me. Still, I’m seeing citrus.

And my recent love is Sherlock. John’s scent would be incredibly cuddly with a whiff of dangerous spice, while Sherlock would never wear fragrance in a million years (but if forced to, would wind up in something like Ormonde Man).
