Just a different idea

Posted by Robin on 5 November 2010 17 Comments

Most male celebrities do male colognes for other males. I think that me making a female fragrance is just a different idea and I think it’s going to be successful.

— Teen pop star Justin Bieber on the new perfume for women he plans to launch next year. Read more at Justin Bieber Creating a Perfume to Make ‘the Girls Go Crazy' at People. As you may remember, he's also going to launch some scented accessories for the holiday season this year.

I thought it was going to be a unisex. Did they change their mind about their marketing angle?

That’s the “scented accessories” linked to above.

Oh wow. I bet this will be a HUGE seller. Smart move. Though, will he be a one hit wonder “next year”? Pop stars come and go – ya gotta strike while the iron’s hot! He better hope those girls are still pining after him rather than the next new thang.

I don’t know enough about him to know…but all the more reason to cash in now, right?

Sorry, Beiber, but the whole creating a scent for females by a male celebrity thing has already been done by no less than the great Peter Andre. Still, I’m sure yours will outsell his by, I don’t know, say a couple of trillion units?

We can go back way farther than that — what about Omar Sharif? And in recent times, surely he gets beat out by Antonio Banderas.

Good point! But for some reason, the whole concept of Peter Andre pipping the Beiber to the post is so much more amusing to me!

It’s pretty easy to imagine Banderas physically beating Mr. Beiber too. (At least on screen, I have never heard that Mr. Banderas is a violent person off screen or off stage).

Now I’m imagining some editing room floor cut sequence from Desperado where he works his guitar magic on Mr. Beiber.

I applaud his shameless opportunism. I’d rather see him market some age appropriate sweet fruit concoction to young girls than suffer the same marketing & production for girls from designer houses like DKNY, YSL, Dior, etc, that should be putting out better stuff for anyone older than 18. Let the kiddies play with their kiddie fragrances and bring the fragrance market back to maturity.

The whole concept of JB creating a scent for women is a little strange. What does he REALLY know about women. (That’s women, not girls)

Maybe he knows more than we realize perhaps? Scary thought.

Remember that to him, high school juniors are older women.

Different idea? Cliff Richard had this idea a long time ago – he’s just a Devil Woman ! lol

Well of course it makes sense for you to “make” a female fragrance Justin, since most of your fans are girls.
