Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles 2010, part 11

Posted by Robin on 11 July 2010 24 Comments

More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

CK One We Magnets edition

From Calvin Klein, CK One in the "we magnets" edition — it comes with 40 small magnetized beads. What you do with the beads escapes me, but they're meant to symbolize 'the connection between us all'. In 100 ml Eau de Toilette, due to launch this month. (via cosmoty.de) Update: there is also a "we magnets" edition of CK Be, in a black bottle.

Balenciaga Paris travel spray

From Balenciaga, a 15 ml travel spray (that may or may not be limited edition) in the Balenciaga Paris fragrance: "A luxury object in itself, the handbag-size spray is an ideal travelling companion and looks truly amazing. Opaque, robed in black and white, it seems to have come straight out of a science fiction novel, and contains the already classic BALENCIAGA PARIS’ fragrance."  80€, due to launch in September. (via press release)

Harrods Rose by Bond no. 9, crystal

From Bond no. 9, the crystallized version of Harrods Rose. 100 ml Eau de Parfum, £495 at Harrods.

Givenchy Pi Neo Mercury edition

From Givenchy, Pi Neo in the Mercury edition: "A metal plate symbolizing Mercury, just as if the bottle had fallen into a mercury bath that emphasizes the pyramidal shape and symbol of Pi Neo." $69 for 100 ml Eau de Toilette at Macy's.

Wow, love the Balenciaga, the regular bottle it comes in is very elegant already…and it is one of my recent favorites..

I love that one too! But hope that at that price it’s refillable.

Especially since the travel spray costs more than a full-sized bottle!

        it might come with refills
and Balenciaga Paris interests me too

oh and I thought the magnets w/ CK one were in or on the bottle, I thought you were supposed to stick the bottle to the fridge but that’s apparently not it lol

I’m SO impressed with the Paris packaging! The original is gorgeous and if this one has the same marble-ish look that the regular bottle’s cap has, then I’m all for it.
Too bad I don’t like the scent.

Perfume copy kills me. Ohno, my bottle fell into the mercury again!!

    devilbunnies: you slay me!
Here in Canada, the Mercury Edition is “so last year”. The new limited edition for Pi Neo is called “Ultimate Equation” and is the same bottle shape with tiny silver equations printed on it. It looks bluer too.

Only because when I came across this one I couldn’t figure out if I’d already posted it or not, so went looking! That’s very funny if I posted an older one after a newer one 🙂

“…contains the already classic BALENCIAGA PARIS’ fragrance.”
I find it so arrogant when brands refer to their own fragrances as classics when they’ve been out about a year. It’s not for them to decide whether it’s classic… classics are supposed to stand the test of time and earn their place through being loved and bought by lots of people over years. Come back in 20 years and say that again when you’ve earned your stripes child!

I find it ironic that a new fragrance is laying claim to being a classic while a truly classic scent (Old Spice) is going for a very modern approach in their advertising.

I much prefer last year’s limited edition of ck one with the speaker. I don’t know if there was a blog about this one but it was a cool concept. The bottle was packaged in a clear plastic and sat on top of a speaker which you could plug your ipod into

“What you do with the beads escapes me”…. hilarious. I don’t know anyone who “needs” a bunch of magnetic beads to accompany their perfume purchase. I guess it’s some sort of New Age gimmick? It’s a little sad they feel they have to do this kind of extra (and unnecessary) promotion for such a well known fragrance as CK One.

Oh, the magnet beads aren’t meant to be newagey. They’re a really fun toy to play with; they all stick surprisingly tightly to one another (assuming they’re good-quality rare earth magnets), and you can mold them and form them into all sorts of 3-D shapes, make them into necklaces and bracelets, and stick them to any and every metal surface in geometric configurations. Just addictive, and a great way to while away the time when you’re on hold.

They keep repackaging CK One in various guises, and I guess it must work to sell more of it!

Who is the sort of customer who would pay 495 pounds for a bottle of fragrance, no matter how exceptional the fragrance or the bottle? I mean, that sort of wealth is usually flaunted (a dress, a handbag, an iPad). But how do you flaunt a bottle of fragrance? It just sits on your dressing table.

Is it just for the pleasure of ownership (which I can sort of understand)? Or the pleasure of needlessly spending money?

They must sell because Bond keeps making them, although I rather doubt they make very many of each. Maybe they’re all gifts? No idea.

Yes, i suppose they must be bought as gifts. Here’s hoping they turn up in charity shops one day!

That H pattern on the Bond bottle is dangerously similar to the one used by Hermes in some of its products…
