If you still need to come up with a gift for Mother's Day, you're running out of time! Here are a few more scented gift ideas:

Laduree candles

From Laduree, scented candles in Caramel au beurre salé (above left; "The astonishing scent with the famous Ladurée macaroon flavor of caramel with salted butter") and Amandine (above right; "The treasure of a secret garden filled with the rich aroma of almond trees"). At Aedes, $68 each.

Victoria's Secret Dream Angels gift set

From Victoria's Secret, a coffret with travel-sized sprays of Dream Angels Heavenly, Dream Angels Heavenly Kiss, Dream Angels Heavenly Bloom, Dream Angels Heavenly Enchanted, Dream Angels Heavenly Flowers, Dream Angels Desire, Dream Angels Halo and Dream Angels Divine. $58.

Byredo soap set

From Byredo, paraben-free soaps in the fruity and fun Pulp fragrance. $45 for two 100 g bars.

Bond Chinatown solid perfume

From Bond no. 9, a Chinatown Swarovski Solid Perfume Token Compact—  "Chinatown swarovski circular token compact has 750 Swarovski stones on its surface, and with Chinatown solid perfume. Every square millimeter on the surface of each container is emblazoned with glittering Swarovski stones giving off a rich, non-stop seductive shimmer." $300.

Hypnotic Poison gift set

From Christian Dior, a Hypnotic Poison gift set: "Celebrate her enchanting ways with the gift of Hypnotic Poison. This gift set includes a 1.7 oz Eau de Toilette Spray and a 1.7 oz Satin Body Lotion; and for the finishing touch of pure femme fatale, a black evening bag with a silver “D” charm inspired by the couture collection of Dior’s John Galliano." $72 at Macy's.

I never understood Swarovski crystals: “Oh, I want one! Wait, those are Swarovski crystals? Make that five.” I mean, does that ever happen?

It must happen, because so many fragrance companies go the crystal route…and Bond does it more than most.

They’re certainly very pretty! I think they appeal to the sparkle-lovin’ magpie within us. Yours must be on a tighter leash than mine! 😉

Those Pulp soaps look really fun (I love Pulp). Has anyone tried Byredo body products?

I haven’t, but would love to try the soaps. They’d better be good, at that price.

Ooh. Not too hot on the crystals or on Bond right now, but the thought of Chinatown in a solid is a very pleasant one…

I like their regular, non-crystallized solid tokens better. But I’m sure there are moms out there who’d rather have the bling.

Surprised I’m not getting flamed for including a Bond item…

Do you know exactly what the recent bru-ha-ha was about them? I saw that they were rude, as usual, to the decanters over at The Perfumed Court – was there anything else? I decided quite a little while ago that no matter how much I like Chinatown, I won’t buy it, because it seems so stupid that Bond No. 9 is always alienating their most dedicated customer base, and the tone of all their communications just pees me off. Does anybody know from where this bizarre PR strategy arises?

That’s the extent of what I know…they tweeted a warning to TPC to stop selling decanted Bond products. Not the best way to go about it IMHO given that a) not everybody reads everything in their Twitter stream and b) now all sorts of other people have read it and are pissed off. But if they’ve followed it up with any formal action, I’m not aware of it.

I wonder if all of this is why they’ve been more generous with their mailing list samples. I didn’t get anything from them for almost a year after signing up, and have now gotten two 7(?) ml bottles of their new releases. I was wondering if they were trying to beef up PR. Sounds maybe like it’s damage control.

Not sure…this was a few days ago (the Twitter thing).

Much too much bling for me but then the whole line has never appealed. The Bond counter at my local department store is so bright and in your face you almost need sun glasses as you walk by. And now I discover that they are bullies as well. Seems to fit.

I wish I like Balenciaga’s Paris more, because I love their restrained and elegant displays.

You know, when I was a single mom and my daughter was young, I rationalized that if she were older and actually had any money, she’d buy me a Mother’s Day gift…so I would just take care of it for her and buy myself a bottle of perfume (which I couldn’t rationalize at any other time, money was so tight). I see no reason why you can’t apply that logic to your cats. 😉

There definitely should be a Mothers Day fairy godmother for us single moms — and us cat moms! Hey, maybe my son and my cat can get together and get me something REALLY nice… Surely between the two of them they can figure out how to place an order with Ormonde Jayne, right?

Oh, if you’re a single mom you definitely deserve it! Geesh, *I’m* about ready to send you something!

Boojum: alas, the cats already bought me KM Peau de Peche and ELdO Vraie Blonde. 🙂 Since people already think I’m nuts, maybe I can just create an imaginary child and get myself gifts from them.

Your cats are very generous! I’ll be happy if mine omits barfing on the floor for Mothers Day. I was a single mom for years, so I know how that goes – it’s best to learn how to treat yourself, especially if you have a boy! Of course my “boy” is now a Marine, serving overseas, so an e-mail or phone call will do nicely!
