In early April, Chanel will launch Chance Eau Tendre, a new flanker to 2002's Chance fragrance for women (and see also: Chance Eau Fraîche).
Pure olfactory poetry, a reminder of how rare and precious chance is. A true burst of tenderness, CHANCE EAU TENDRE is the fragrance of an optimistic woman who believes in happiness and holds onto chance.
Chance Eau Tendre was developed by Chanel's in-house perfumer, Jacques Polge, and the fruity floral features notes of grapefruit, quince, hyacinth, jasmine, amber, cedar, iris and white musk.
Chanel Chance Eau Tendre will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (via ftape, pourelles.bienpublic)
so, Tinkerbell wears Chanel Chance Eau Tendre? 😉
It would look like that’s the case. I like the color though.
She seems to adore it.
indeed, and we’re not even clapping yet….
ROTFL! You just made my day Miss Daisy. Thank you. 🙂
Funny. That image is kind of cute though.
It might not sound worthy of Chanel, but it sounds very appealing for what it is. I love grapefruit and cedarwood.
Talking of grapefruit scents, what’s Marc Jacobs’ grapefruit splash like? I had a terrible experience with the Aqua Alegoria grapefruit, so I’m careful. And 300ml are quite a commitment when buying blindly. I’d love to explore grapefruit scents. I love Addict 2, but would like more emphasis on the grapefruit. Any advice?
It’s been awhile since I tried the Marc Jacobs but I remember it being a very linear grapefruit scent. No top, middle or bottom notes on me just “all grapefruit all the time”. Lasting power was almost nil but with a bottle that big you can spray with abandon!
Same opninion about the MJ scent, no lasting power and only grapefuit. I found it also a bit flat.
I sometimes wear Jo Malone’s Grapefruit in the summer and it is definitely grapefruity with maybe a honey tone. Not long-lasting, but quite distinctive. (It used to be very decidedly citrus when it first came out, but I guess the usual reformulation has sadly taken place.) I don’t know if it’s me, I also find grapefruit scents sometimes have a faint “sweaty” aroma about them. I’ve also tried Floris’s Pink Grapefruit but it was like putting loo cleaner on!
It does sound nice. I liked Chance Eau Fraiche better than the original Chance.
Oh dear. That Eau Fraiche made me want to chew my arm off (not in a good way). I’ve never smelled the original, and after that experience, never wanted to.
Well, mind you, I didn’t love it. I just liked it better than Chance.
Grapefruit: Rance Eau de France; Kelly Caleche EdP; YSL In Love Again. Of course all of them rather mixed with something, but mainly (pink) grapefruit. Like it too.
I tried Chance and it is like a Chanel Mainstream. Really good, I liked it, but really mainstream. If I might get it for a handfull of Euros I would like it. Just nice and young and Flowery – yes, Tinkerbell is a fab comparison.
Thanks, that’s quite a list of suggestions for grapefruit.
I live in a deadend place where I don’t get to test anything. Shame you can’t sniff online.
For now I might stick with the MJ splash. It sounds like it has no pitfalls like the AA one.
I found the original Chance quite unusual, on me it smells like herbal tea, nicely green and bitter. But I smelled it on a few offputting individuals, so I won’t be revisiting.
Don’t care for Chanel’s doing spinoffs, but they might be nice enough scents for the summer.
Oh, nooooo….. I always thought Chanel was kind of beyond the trends, i.e. introducing a new flanker season after season. Still, I like Chance and I like the eau fraiche quite a bit more, so I’m sure I’ll try this. The grapefruit scares me a bit, I’ve heard bad things.
Oh, they do flankers too. Not so many as some other brands, and some of them are pretty good (Allure Homme Edition Blanche, for instance).
(Wonder how old that model is… 12? Now taking bets – was she photoshopped or not? Are her thighs really that much longer than her shins, or her torso?)
Enough snark on the advertising. (Sorry.) This doesn’t sound as sweet as many fruity-florals. All the same, I didn’t like Chance, and this doesn’t look like it would be my sort of thing.
I found her abnormally long thighs distracting, too, like the movie Avatar’s characters’ elongated limbs.
Hilarious! I was thinking the exact same thing–Avatar!
She is Sigrid Agren, and was born in 1991. It does look like somebody maybe went a little overboard in photoshop.
I did actually assume that she had to be 18 to appear unclothed. She just looks younger. Very pretty face.
She had better be, considering whatever’s going on with that bottle.
Born 1991? OMG! I AM OLD!
Yes, I was also wondering where her butt is?
sorry, is model = no butt
Flanker, flanker, flanker …………. How can there be room in the world for so many flankers? I am new to the perfume scene, but never in my wildest dreams (or nightmares) did I realise how huge this market is! I can’t keep up (I know, that’s why you do it for me!). And by the way – is Daisy always ready to pounce and shoot out an amazing thought the moment a new blog appears, or is she linked telepathically and “feels” when one has just arrived?
There are a gajillion flankers — they’re cheaper to do than regular perfumes.
Why is that? Just curious.
The name is already known, so you have a ready-made customer base with minimal (or sometimes no) expense on advertising. That alone explains flankers, since advertising is a HUGE proportion of the budget for new mainstream fragrances.
Also because they’re usually limited edition (although not sure that is the case w/ this one), you don’t have to worry about long term customer loyalty or major training of SAs. And often, development cost is less because you’re making a variation on an existing product, including the existing bottle design. Last, sometimes flankers work to reinvigorate interest in the pillar scent.
So interesting, thank you!
just a happy coincidence! 😉
I like Chance and even though this is a flanker, I’m hoping it’s going to be better than Eau fraiche (it’s going to be really difficult making it worse than that in my opinion).
And now that Mals mentioned it, I checked the thighs. Photoshop should be banned.
We’re opposites: I liked Eau Fraiche better than the original! But not a huge Chance fan in any case.
I have an old bottle of Chance somewhere, should take it out and smell it now, after having tried gallions of other juices.
I used to wear it in my late twenties, and I remember liking it: it was my signature scent (apparently, every good perfumista @ nst loathes it, so shhhhh!!)!
At the time when Eau Fraiche was released, I was so eager to try the beautiful green summer version – but I positively hated it.
What bothered me most was that it didn’t bear any resemblance to the original Chance, and I kept wondering why they called it Chance something and used my beloved circular bottle.
Now I know what flankers are supposed to do: $$$ on a succesful name. 🙁
(mumble, mumble, where is my old bottle…. will I still like it?)
I don’t know if I count as a good perfumista or not, but I bought a bottle of Chance last year, so I apparently like it too. Of course, now that my tastes have become more varied and skew towards niche, I don’t if I’ll still like it as much. I suppose that I should pull out my bottle and check it out.
In theory, I’m not a big flanker fan, but I seem to have acquired a few – my favorite is probably Eau Premiere – although does Lempicka Fleur d’Corail count as a flanker? Because I adore that one, too.
flankers are so often completely different than their namesake that I approach them as entirely separate entities.
hmmm….I’ve got a sample of Chance here somewhere, didn’t like it but always good to recheck, right? No idea about the Eau Fraiche.
I would not pass up the chance to sniff any Chanel.
or Eau Tendre….
Oh, I’m glad I am not alone 🙂 !!! So I can still pin my perfumista badge on my sweater!
…and I think Eau première is really a great “flanker”…at lest I like it better than the original!!!
I love Eau Premiere too 🙂
Keep your badge! You like whatever you like.
Zazie – I had a co-worker who always wore Chance and it smelled wonderful on her. However, our boss (and if you’ve ever seen the movie The Devil Wears Prada – you’ve seen her!) wears Eau Fraiche, and it smells sharp and bitter on her – awful! The worst part is that in the summer she unerringly wears it on days when I’ve worn Chamade, and there’s something about the Eau Fraiche smell that singes my nose hairs and ruins the Chamade for the rest of the day!
I find the Eau Fraiche very masculine. I always think that I like Chance, but I have literally bought it twice this year and returned it both times. It has a tendency to smell a bit sour, I think.
Agreed that Chanel needs a new feminine that is not a Chance flanker. It’s been eight years since Chance!
Eau Tendre is already available in Russia. I was rather disappointed – the scent pleasent, tender, but typical fresh floral for young girls without its own face (it is something between Versace Bright Crystal and Lancome Miracle). So the pink colour of juice completely reflects the juice itself. I like Eau fraiche much more, just because it is original and has a character.
Thanks, good to know!
Maybe the bottle is squashing her limbs out to attenuated proportions. Odd, the whole image.
LOL — that could be it.
Sampled it at Nordstrom last week (it’s not available here yet but my fave SA had a sample bottle with just a plain white label) and I didn’t care for it. But to be fair, I don’t like any of the Chance scents. This one smelled like the rest of ’em.
~Dawn
I don’t love them either. Good to know there are already testers out there, thanks!
I can`t help, but I find Chance smells like Coco Mademoiselle.
Thanks.
This is really weird. I had a dream last night that there was a Chance flanker that came out, and I was totally excited about it. I must have heard or read about it somewhere, as it seems to weird to be a random psychic occurrence. (As it so happens, I’m not excited about this. But who knows, it may exceed my already low expectations.)
a perfume psychic! cool! you will come in handy!
The images have been floating around the internets for weeks, maybe you saw it!
Whats the fuss about how young this model look? Its a lovely commercial, for the new CHANEL scent. I don’t care so much about how young or old the model look on the advertising. Only if someone launch a perfume, thats meant to be for the slightly older costumers. Then I like seeing someone whos older and mature. For this EAU TENDRE, it seems like CHANEL is out for the younger costumers. I kinda like the notes on this, as I was so dissapointed about Eau fraice. It had a saur slightly bitter smell on my skin and the original CHANCE is to strong for my taste. I like the original CHANCE, just not on me and I would love if those who use it, would spray a little more lightly, when they put it on =) I might like this EAU TENDRE. But my hopes isn’t to high, coz I might get dissapointed. I love BOIS DES ILES and the older perfumes that CHANEL made. Well…its a worth try..maybe EAU TENDRE, will be a nice summer scent =)
Well, some other people care — why make a fuss about that? But you’re right, it’s geared towards a young audience so not surprising that they’ve got a young model. You’re right about Bois des Iles though — nothing will ever beat Bois des Iles 🙂
NEVER! BdL is just amazing. I have never smelled something like that before. Is there some other perfumes, that reminds of it? or is it just so unique as I want it to be? =D
I don’t think I ever had any other perfume that I think, that this is my signature scent, like BdL. I like other scents…but this is the one I just the most. But it seems like CHANEL did the best scents in the old days. If I had to say one, I like, that is a newer and still today is old, it has to be the original Allure for women. Yes, its very sugary..but I like it =) I would love to read a review on that one =D
There is nothing else that reminds me of it. In the one sense, it’s sad that all the companies copied Chanel no. 5 and not this, but on the other hand, it means you don’t smell BdI on the street, and that’s nice — it’s like a secret.
PEW! For no copies of BdI…I would hate that. I like No5…but it just dont suit me that well. I llove the cosy warm feeling around BdI and it really is a secret. Just a shame, that u can’t get it anywhere. But then again. Then everyone will know it =)
Well, perfume companies DO spend an awful lot on the advertising. . . . We’re doing what they want ! We’re paying lots of attention to the ad ! 😉
So true!
Maybe we as a nation can’t agree on gay marriage, but I’m pretty sure we can all agree on one thing: such an… intense relationship between a girl and a perfume bottle is probably a bad thing.
😀
Oh, I don’t know… I feel that way about my perfumes sometimes. 🙂 Some days I’ll just sit and stare at them adoringly. When I’m making samples I walk through the house with my arms and pockets full of perfume bottles, and it makes me happy to be loaded down with the stuff.
Miss Kitty, I often contemplate abandoning men entirely in favor of that beautiful little Shalimar parfum bottle, or the atomizer bottle for Prada L’Eau Ambree (the perfume, not so much). Perfume is much better for my self-esteem than boys anyway. I just can’t see myself getting so emotionally attached to this particular Chance bottle, with that tacky white cap and all.
I am with you on that.
LOL…don’t know how many votes you’ll get for that around here! There are some serious bottle fans.
Boo to this. I want a REAL Chanel release.
New men’s coming in September!
Seems like this ad harks back many of those older Chanel ads where a model hugs a huge bottle of No 5. Remember those? Carole Someone was the model? (Help me out, I’ve had no coffeee yet). They were quite cute, and much more restrained than this latest effort, which is absurd.
Yes, those were great!
Bet she was clothed, though.
I’d Rather Polge Work on a NEW Chanel Fragrance or reformulating some of those rare old Chanel Masterpieces like No. 46 or No. 11 or Ivoire on the numerous others that could lend to a whole other “Les Exclusifs” line! Chance isn’t a great fragrance to start with, Smells ok, not worthy of the Chanel name to be sure, but most definitely not worthy of 2 FLANKERS! Let’s Move on Monsieur Polge to something Excitingly New for Chanel, as in A NEW FRAGRANCE!
I doubt it took up any massive amount of his time. New Chanel coming in September for men, but don’t know of anything else. Seems like we’re due for another Exclusif.
AGREED Robin! am bidding on a rare unopened bottle of Chanel No. 46, keep your fingers crossed for me! 😀
Luck to you!
Oh, the very best of luck!! And if you get us, please tell us how it smells.
But ya know, sometimes I think that the more ordinary the fragrance, the more likely it is that the house will try and prop it up with flankers.
LOL — it does seem that way sometimes!
What? A Chanel No 46???
http://1000fragrances.blogspot.com/2008/02/chanel-ivoire-and-no-46.html
Ooh goody, thanks for the link! Nice.
Oh, I really hope they bring those back! And that they bring them back true to form. 🙁
Wow…never heard of it. But thanks for posting.
Well, before I start lemming the Chance (had all street CHANELS) I will pour some Coco Mlle Extrait on me – and I mean pour because I want to finish it!
They are pretty alike. I think Allure captures the idea of the CHANEL scents in a very nice and modern way. Boid des Iles i did not get yet. The few exclusive CHANELS I smelled until now where all great. But I could not afford them anyway 🙂 so I do not care now, maybe later with more $$ 🙂
I can’t afford them either.
How many Chances does one need? I guess hope springs eternal.
Indeed it does 🙂
I would’ve loved to get this…..if I didn’t already have Luscious Pink! I’m convinced they’re the same scent!!!!! Damn!
Why are you convinced they’re the same?
Not literally the same, but if you spray L.P on one card and E.T on the other you won’t be able to tell the difference. Well, L.P is lighter. I’ll say if you spray the deluxe on the card and E.T on another you won’t be able to tell the difference.
Oh, gotcha!
his is nice. Though it might say grapefruit, it was entirely PEAR to me. I like it, but it reminds me too much of Coco Mademoiselle and it is maybe a bit too young. Chance is for young customers, but this one is for “girls”.
I have seen that Chanel No5 EP is available in 40ml, but it is still evry expensive. And Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte might be also very nice, but I know from reading here it is not Chanel Cristalle.
I hope Polge will come up with something really new! I habe now quite a few Chanel scents, I would love something new. I just cannot imagine what a special scent he can come with this time. Something more woody?! A badass chypre?
I have this perfume and my boyfriend adores it!
