Jean Paul Gaultier Classique X ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 30 December 2009 28 Comments

Jean Paul Gaultier has launched Classique X, a flanker to 1993's Classique fragrance for women:

Classique X is a sensual interpretation of orange blossom and woody notes. Inspired by Jean Paul Gaultier's Fall 2009 ready-to-wear collection, the new Classique X is sophisticated, sexy and luminous.

Additional notes include peony, iris and vanilla.

Jean Paul Gaultier Classique X is available in 50 ($65) and 100 ($89) ml Eau de Toilette, and can be found now at Nordstrom. (via nordstrom, additional information via conseillere-de-beaute.fr)

Update: see a review of Jean Paul Gaultier Classique X.

Absolutely. Hoping it’s less sweet than Classique.

oh yay! Can’t wait until it comes out. If I had a signature fragrance, it would be this Eau de toilette.

I tried this the other day- nothing special, in my opinion. In fact, it reminds me of the summer fragrance. Pass for now.

I haven’t smelled JP Classique in years and recall thinking then that it smelled a bit like hair spray and makeup all rolled together and stuffed into that memorable bottle. But my tastes have changed dramatically since then, so I may like it, as well as this flanker, now that my likes have grown and changed. It’s definitely worth a shot. I love the name. Makes me think of John Singer Sergeant’s Portrait of Madame X or The Powder Puff Girls with their mysterious ingredient X. 🙂

I recently tried and loved FM’s Lipstick Rose and Amanda by Amanda Lepore, both of which have that prominent lipstick accord going on, so perhaps I’ve evolved enough to like this, too. If they ever make a frag that smells like YSL’s lipsticks do, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. They smell so fantastic.

I am definitely looking to smell this when I see it. I had a bottle of GPG “Classique” when I was a teenager. I bought it more for the bottle than anything else and wore it because I thought it made me smell “grown up.” I lost track of that bottle but when I sprayed on “classique” te other day at the mall I really enjoyed it. I like peony and iris so we will see how this is.

The bottles are great…I love all the limited edition collector bottles they do. Hope this one is fun!

It’s fabulous. The lipstick note lingers throughout, and there’s a hint of strawberries at the start and powder, iris, blond woods and even the little “splash” of champagne that’s noticeable as it wears on the skin. On first application, it does smell like a true and almost larger than life party girl frag, but the dry-down’s much more relaxed and sexy. I wrote a more detailed review for it on MUA as AbsoluteScentualist. Were it not for the huge amount of perfume I’d never use up, I’d happily buy some or host a split. It’s great fun and I’d love to own some in a reasonable quantity.

Good, worth a try. I have a small bottle of the Classique EdT, which I use sometimes. It is (to me) a heavy scent, and one spritzer is more than enough. The summer flankers didn’t work for me, but this one sounds nice.

It is too heavy and too sweet for me — but it always makes me smile.

Ooh, I *like* the look of that bottle! The original one is fine, but so… wholesome, like cream lace and oatmeal. This new one references just enough kinkiness to be interesting visually, while still being in keeping with the spirit of the original bottle. I approve!
*Ahem* – my love for design got the better of me, there.

Don’t think I’ll like the scent much, though.

Gosh, is the original wholesome? It never struck me that way — always makes me think of Madonna in that corset.

I remember as a teenager, my inner feminist was offended by such a portrayal of women’s bodies. Like, that was the only body shape worth having or something.
Now, as an adult, it doesn’t bother me.

I have no idea how JPG (or Madonna, or, for that matter, the people who buy it) meant it to be taken, but I always took it as very tongue in cheek.

Bottle looks nice. I’ll have to catch a whiff. Don’t like the original. Here’s the info on the new Le Male!

I’ll be getting that the day Macy’s gets FlowerBomb!

Yeah, that one’s just a collector bottle though…not a new juice. Have it in a post that will appear later today or tomorrow.

It is a limited edition, but lots of stores have it now…Sephora, Nordstrom, and I think Macys.

Finally got a whif. The lasting power is excellent. Although I like Classique, I like this one more. It is smoother, softer. In the dry down there is more vanille. There is no harshness in it, it is a very round fragrance. I find it a complete different scent as Classique.

I forgot to mention, although it has nothing to do with Classique X. I smelled the new Ma Dame Eau de Parfum.. I found it very strong and much heavier as the EdT and it smells different as the EdT. It has a lot of overloading patchouli and leaves a very comic smell on my skin. Well, I am not a patchouli fan.
