Posted by Robin on 21 October 2009 23 Comments

Shiseido Zen Concentrated

Shiseido will launch Zen Concentrated for women, a new limited edition flanker for the 2007 version of Shiseido Zen. It follows Zen White and Zen for Men, both released this year.

Zen Concentrated is a "new interpretation of modern femininity" and features notes of magnolia, grapefruit, bergamot, peach, grape, pineapple, jasmine, freesia, gardenia, violet, hyacinth, lily of the valley, lotus blossom, China rose, vanilla, patchouli, cedar, musk, amber and incense.

Shiseido Zen Concentrated launches this month in 50 ml Eau de Parfum. (via cosmoty.de, alimarket.es)

How many Zens are there now?! This one sure has a lot going on!

There were 3 versions, all 3 of which are still on the market (at least in Japan, as I understand it). The new 2007 Zen had at least 1 official flanker already, and I think also an LE collector bottle, and possibly more…who knows, I miss stuff sometimes.

I guess Shiseido *really* likes the name Zen.

Yes! I think having 3 totally different scents w/ the same name is crazy, although at least they stopped exporting 2 of them.

Fruit salad breakfast with a huge bouquet on the table and incense burning nearby.

This stuff was pretty strong. I can’t imagine a more concentrated version.

I did not find it light either.

I found one of the original Zens on a bottom shelf in Narita duty-free. It was incensey and green – completely different from this new fruity stuff. Also much cheaper. I gave it to a friend, and I only hope she doesn’t use it up and think New Yellow Zen is the same juice!

The one in the cool black bottle with the gold design on it? That’s the one I love.

I love the original Zen, and the unavailable Murasaki-they are lovely scents. This version, I don’t care for… but I’m sure it appeals to someone!

{raising hand–oh! oh!} Another original, black bottle Zen fan here. I found that out just before the little Shiseido gift shop nearby sold out. One edt, one edp in my posession. And now, thanks to the miracle of online discoveries, one tiny treasured bottle of parfum.

I adore the cute little perfume bottle! A dear friend (who does not wear perfume) has one, I am wondering how I can swap her for it…… I am a fiend for cute little bottles like that!

Isn’t it though? Hmm, does your friend do any crafting? Like dark chocolate? Need a sitter? hmmm hmmmm….

The add’l problem is she’s the girl who has everything. She is really hard to purchase for, and no kids, so I can’t babysit for her. She’s also a professional chef, so she has access to any food item (pretty much) she wants. Sigh…..

The black was the original. Then they did a white one. I thought both were pretty nice (and I liked both of them better than the new one).

I had the white bottle one when it first came out and long before I was seriously interested in perfume. I remember liking it and I’d like to smell it again but not badly enough to go through any trouble. I rememer it came with little incense cones which I thought were cute.

I do not understand the peach, grape and pineapple. They just seem like an odd thing to put in such a flower laden potion. I thought Zen included simplicity of thought and oneness. This is anything but simple. They did forget the kitchen sink. I mean ohmmmm, if all things are one, they didn’t leave out much.
Ohm, I’ll probably like it though, ohm.

Hahaha… love your comment. I tried finding an article from Tricycle magazine about Zen this-and-that, but the only thing I could come up with is the following somewhat cute but rant-y diatribe against overuse of the word for everything nowadays:
      http://www.scottberkun.com/blog/2008/the-trashing-of-zen-a-rant/

The description of this DOES sound like it’s a bit too baroque to be “Zen”. HA.

Now THERE is a catchy phrase: too Baroque to be Zen. And so easily slipped into casual conversation…I like it. 😀

The middle one (the white one, that came out in 2000) seemed to me to be the only one that fit the name.

    I’m over-Zenned!

I did try the one released in Australia last year (can’t remember which one, but I’m thinking it was just ‘Zen’) and I said to the SA, ‘mmm, white florals’ to which she replied ‘actually it’s an oriental’ … to which I said ‘oh’ and walked away.
