Spring 2009 update to Perfumes: The Guide

Spring 2009 Update Perfumes: The Guide

Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez have released the Spring 2009 update to Perfumes: The Guide. The update includes reviews of over 200 fragrances, and is available for download for $9.99.

Here is Tania Sanchez on Guerlain's L'Instant Magic Elixir:

OK, you say, enough with the classy chypres. What I really want is to smell like that whoosh that comes out of the dryer when I open the door! This is called in the fabric softener industry the “magic moment,” implying that Guerlain might have a sense of humor.

Did anyone see the (free) Excel document on the link? How cool is that?! I’ve downloaded it and decided I’m going to add my own column of pertinent quotes from the reviews. Now I don’t have to lug that book with me every time I go on a sniffing expedition. Still debating on whether or not to purchase the update. I’ll probably cave. Do we know if they’re going to be coming out with these annually or quarterly or what?

Arrrgh! Just realized that excel doc is only the 2009 update frags. *sigh* Did they ever do a spreadsheet for the book? Still, I appreciate that they did this even for the update.

The index is done by someone at the Perfume of Life message board (as a public service, I think), and it’s supposed to include the book plus all the updates, but I haven’t looked at it. And yes, they’re doing these quarterly.

Whoever is doing the spreadsheets, I’d like to send them a big ol’ box o’ chocolates! I appreciate a well-done Excel spreadsheet and when it’s subject matter is something less mundane than, say, accounting deficiency reports, well, let’s just say I appreciate it even more.

Hi! there are two indexes – I think one of them contains the update only, while the other seems complete (Mitsouko, bois de violette, everything seems there, but I might be wrong since I don’t own the book)…did you check both files?

I only found the one index and I noticed the link to the Winter 2008 newsletter is broken. I’ll keep checking back I guess.

Thanks for the feedback. Hope all broken links are fixed now and the Excel file is updated. I’ve probably missed a few, though. My regular WYSIWYG editor is having a bad hair month so I’m editing the whole webpage in HTML in a text editor. Apologies if things look wonky for a while.

I think I am going to have to cave and buy these two latest updates. If I can pay $10 for a measly 2.5ml vial of something, I can surely pay for the pleasure of LT/TS updates!

I couldn’t help it, I had to order the new update. I have way too much fun reading these, even if I don’t always agree. (In fact, having a difference of opinion is half the fun).

and how much do we all spend for fashion magazines (which are less amusing, less well written and make you feel too fat for the swimwear season)?
I’ll pop over to order it now

Wow, what a nice surprise to see the Spring one is out! Has it really been 3 months already! Bought and printed my copy and saving it as a guilty pleasure to read in bed tonight! But of course, I couldn’t resist sneaking a look and great to see they are catching up on the Annick Goutal masculines and oriental collection, some of the Nicolai’s, Penhaligons etc. making the collected Guide (book and supplements) a really comprehensive work!

Time flies, doesn’t it? And yes, if they keep up this pace the collected guide will be huge.

Squealing in delight here! I am late coming on over so I am catching up. This spreadsheet is great, the reviews are very informative and entertaining! I don’t know why I don’t have the book yet…logging into Amazon.com now….:)

I keep the book and the updates in my sewing basket right next to the couch … and every night I pick up one or the other, open at random, and read a few reviews, or reread to be honest, since I’ve read all 3 at least 10 times …. I never get tired of them!
