Thierry Mugler Angel Sunessence, Alien Sunessence ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 6 March 2009 41 Comments

Thierry Mugler Angel Sunessence perfumeThierry Mugler Alien Sunessence perfume

Thierry Mugler has launched Angel Sunessence Eau de Toilette Légère and Alien Sunessence Eau de Toilette Légère, new limited edition summer versions of Thierry Mugler Angel (1992) and Thierry Mugler Alien (2005), respectively.

Angel Sunessence Eau de Toilette Légère (shown above left):

Under the splendour of the white light of the sun, the horizon quivers in a veil of silver-plated light...Angel seized all the pleasures of this dazzling light to create the Angel Sunessence collection.

The new scent is described as "delicious, floral and sensual", and as "the original fragrance, [softened] with bergamot and an exotic floral-hibiscus accord".

Alien Sunessence Eau de Toilette Légère (shown above right):

At the hour of twilight, the sun shows the world in its splendor...Alien collected the benefits of the sun and revealed, at the end of the day a new valuable stone, Citrine, resplendent and luminous...Alien captured the glare of the sun and of the stone and concentrated all of their benefits in Alien Sunessence.

Thierry Mugler Angel Sunessence Eau de Toilette Légère and Alien Sunessence Eau de Toilette Légère are available in 50 ml and in matching body products. They can be found now at Marionnaud in France. (first, second and fourth quotes are my very bad translations via marionnaud, third quote via victoriacentre.uk)

Other Thierry Mugler Angel flankers: Peony Angel, Lily Angel and Violet Angel, Rose Angel, Angel La Part des Anges.

Other Thierry Mugler Alien flankers: Alien Eau Luminescente.

If you put a little plunger on the top end of that Alien bottle, it would look eerily like a Dalek.

Saw them in a store today. They have that cool little 'fragrant plastic' thing that the A*Men Coffee box had!

Ah, cool — I've heard of those but never seen them. For anyone not familiar, this allows you to smell the fragrance from the outer packaging.

Don't you this is superfluous for the Angel family? You can smell the scent in the bottle as soon as you enter the room.

    I like Angel and Alien.
    What does hibiscus smell like?
Can they grow in Virginia? because I really think I remember having them in my backyard at one time.

So true. Usually, the body lotion is enough.

Most hibiscus flowers have no scent at all. And yes, there are annual varieties that you could grow in VA.

Didn't this line pass the Number of Flankers Limit like 3 years ago? Enough already.

Ayala, I might be remembering this wrong…might be something on the bottle itself that is scented? Can't remember, but agree on the Angel!

Oh, they're not even in the running for most flankers though!

Hibiscus tea smells and tastes fruity and sour. Maybe that's what they had in mind?

You know, that's true. I just looked it up & learned it's made from the sepals:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibiscus_tea

No idea if that's what they use for fragrance too.

I think I had Hibiscus laevis and/or Hibiscus mutabilis

when I was little I used to pull off the pollen grains (maybe that's why we don't have them anymore!!!!!!) and I vaguely remember a smell. I don't think they're using pollen grains though….

Poor Alien! First I say it's a child of Darth Vader and a penguin and made everyone see the bottles as penguins, and now it is a Dalek! Well, he wanted aliens, and aliens he got.

When they bring out an Angel flanker that magnifies the dirty, murky patchouli dry-down, I'll be first in line to buy it.

Didn't you think La Part des Anges qualified on that score? It was expensive though.

The orange Alien had this – it's a scent-embedded rubbery panel that is part of the packaging. My Nordies SA was not thrilled with the panel – it was actually pretty accurate as far as sniffing, but it has meant that there are no tester bottles so you can't try it on skin.

I'm already clearing shelf space for this. Maybe these, depending on how the Angel flanker smells.

My mother has them in her yard, and they are, indeed, scentless.

Ah, maybe that's the point then, to not bother providing testers? Bloomies did provide testers of the orange Alien though.

Didn't the perfumer who created Alien die recently? Who created the Alien flanker then?

Laurent Bruyere, who made Alien along w/ Dominique Ropion, passed away last year. He could have still worked on this, but flankers aren't always made by the original perfumers.

Pity, but it would have been too much money for me right now anyway, so perhaps it's just as well.

Smelled both today. The Angel one is rather one-dimensional. On paper it was just like yellow melon, but not melon translated into perfume. The original Angel is more artistic, it smells of sweets, but you wouldn't mistake it for sweets. Does that make any sense?
The Alien one started very citrusy, then became an indistinct floral. Both rather disappointing, with Alien being superior.

I'd say they're not worth any hurry, though the yellow bottle is nice. I expected a lot from the Angel, something along the lines of Innocent which has really grown on me. This seems just like the most trivial of fruity-florals. And I don't even dislike fruity scents, at least I love Addict 2. This is sadly just too much like food, nothing besides and not even refreshing.

Hey, I havent smelled these but I just wanted to say someone should do a review about the new fragrance collection from Thierry Mugler called “Miroir, Miroir!”
It consists of 5 unique fragrances that are supposed to represent the different personalities of a woman. I just recently bought Miroir des Envies and i love it! Anyway, I just noticed that none of these are on here and you all may want to check them out if you love thierry mugler!

The Miroir Miroir collection is not very widely distributed here, so I still haven’t smelled them!

I just tried the Alien Sunessence and the drydown is total Organza. It opens lemony and kinda harsh on the jasmine but the Organza finish is pretty funny.
