Coming soon from Avon, another collaboration with designer Christian Lacroix (see 2007's Avon + Christian Lacroix Rouge & Noir). The new oriental fragrance for women is Absynthe, inspired (obviously) by the green fairy.
The fragrance notes include absinthe, freesia, green anise, orchid, saffron, narcissus, ancient woods, ebony, musk, myrrh and amber.
Avon + Christian Lacroix Absynthe will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum. (via cosmoty.de)
Other recent launches from Avon: Patrick Dempsey Unscripted, Ironman, Avon Spotlight, Jet, Wish of Luck.
Update: Absynthe was developed by perfumer Laurent LeGuernec.
The notes actually sound interesting. Following your advise I did get the CL Noir.
While the staying power is not as long as I would wish, and it stays very very close to the body, it is a very nice scent that I do enjoy. (and at a price that doen't hurt either)
I may get this one too. I love absinth! (the drink!) … and ebony, amber, and myrrh….
I doubt it was me — I never smelled the CL Noir!
well, on the one hand, this means that Platinum has cheated on you with another perfume blog! (tsk, tsk) But on the other hand you've gotten the credit for giving good advice. What's not to like about that?
I haven't tried an Avon offering in years, I might have to give a few of these a sniff; the notes sound appealing.
I'm going to say this knowing some will snicker… But I think that Avon scents aren't bad, they have produced several over the years that are quite good, such as Imari, Louis Feraud, Odyssey.
LOL
I do not cheat!!!

WISPERING TO SANTA (and Santa listened!)
I mentioned the Noir and I got the “Go for it” from Robin!
Avon has piqued my interest, I must admit. Does anyone know if it's possible to sample their fragrances?
Yes, it is possible. I got one. Just contact an “Avon lady” and ask for a sample.
I don't believe so, but they aren't expensive, most are priced for under 20 or so,
They have those little moist-towelette samples, but I think you have to get them from your Avon Lady. I have an Avon store near me so I have been able to pick a few up. When they put their travel-size or rollerballs on sale they can be had for a song and it's not as expensive to make a mistake.
No snickering here. Have you been to the Avon store in Westlake mall?
I like Imari Seduction quite well actually, and Far Away if I want to smell sweet and femme, and have my eye on some Bond Girl. But I think this one sounds really interesting, and I like the poisonous look of the bottle.
HA — just went to look, and so I did — but I meant the Tumulte, which I love, and also meant the Tumulte *Homme*, which I now realize might not even have been what you meant! I wasn't very precise, was I?
LOL — true, I'll always take credit for good advice.
Not snickering — never get to try any so no opinion at all on the subject!
SFElizabeth & Tama, thanks for answering because I didn't know…
Ah, I just need to find a way to overcome my unsniffed-phobia of wasting my money/being crushingly disappointed. We'll see, maybe when Avon has it on 50% markdown like most of its perfumes seem to be right now…
the other CL Avon is worth trying?
No?! They have one? I'll have to check that out….. thanks for the tip! Their lipsticks and eyeliners are pretty good and affordable too….
No, having an unsniffed phobia will save you serious bucks in the future! Ok to have that one!!
Absinthe always interests me as a note, so this appeals to an extent, but I have the Christian Lacroix Rouge (my mom's friend is an Avon rep and I was given it two Christmases ago) and while it's nice enough (citrus and woods) there's something slightly generic about it — the drydown smells similar to several other Avon concoctions. So my hopes for this one are not too high. I like the bottle though! (If it's the same design as the red one, it probably has a nice weighty feel.)
No problem
“Santa” got me the Noir and I am treating myself to Tumulte Homme–it should arrive in a few days.
So, by not being precise, you have “advised” me to get both.
When my other half tells me that I own too many bottles, I always blame it on you anyway… “Robin said that I should “go for it!”
FYI headline typo 😉 Feel free to delete this comment.
HUGE thanks!
If you get some, let us know how it is! I have no access to Avon stuff.
Guess what? It turns out we can shop online at avon.com. Who knew? *Off to buy a bottle of Surreal edt for $9.*
Hope you'll love TH!
And always good for an addict to have someone to blame 😉
I knew! But they don't sell samples, and given that they don't have retail stores here, I think that's nuts. Plus, the fragrance descriptions are pathetic. Avon makes me cranky, can you tell? It's like they're “stuck” in the personal sell box, and don't 'get” the internets.
Not like I'm a fan of pushy sales folks, but I think they (Avon) wants that real person contact, thinking the relationship ultimately will be good for sales.
Whereas if someone is sitting at the computer, they have time to think “do I really need this?” and cancel without feeling guilty.
Yeah, but putting a little more info on the website wouldn't cost them anything, and I'm sure it would increase sales. I still say it's a wasted opportunity.
Yep, totally agree. I may love a store/product, but web info is very important.
Which is exactly what I did last night, after filling my cart with lipsticks. I still think anything named “Surreal” deserves a spot in my fragrance collection, though, so will probably pull the trigger after all.
Do let us know if Surreal lives up to its billing!
This sounds promising but, sorry to sound like a snob, most avon perfumes are pretty blah. I will hunt it down anyway. At least it will be dead cheap on ebay.
Snobbery is allowed!
Wow, Avon is chasing the Green Fairy now?
My interest is piqued now….
Hope it's good!
I got my bottle of Absynthe today. I have to say, it's not as green as I expected it to be. I suppose I should have known what with the “ancient woods, ebony, musk, myrrh and amber” that this was going to be very spicy. I sprayed it in the air first to make sure I didn't loathe it. Now I've had it on my arm for about 2 minutes and I got about 5 seconds off that freesia and narcissus. Then for a about 30 seconds I got the “green anise” or at least that's what I'm assuming it is. It smell like anise but fresher, sharper not as cloying as I experienced before. I am amazed right now because the saffron has appeared and seems to be sticking around! It's a creamy saffron though, not a b.o. saffron (though I really didn't expect that). Hmmm, 4 minutes now and the green anise has reappeared and then ducked behind the saffron several times. 5 minutes – now they both appear to be leaving together. lol Aaand here comes the woods and spices…to stay I assume.
Anyway. No surpirses here. Not exceptionally original but I do like it. It does remind me slightly of something…like all Avon perfumes do. Wow, this dry down actually smells quite a bit like I remember Rouge's smelling. Hmmm, maybe that's it. And it's not making my eyes water or my nose run! Always good news. I also want to ad that this could definitely pass for unisex. Don't know if Avon is coming out with a men's version. Thumbs up. So there's my amateur review. 🙂
Wow, great review, thanx! I received my sample with my last Avon shipment, and was disappointed after trying a wee bit out of the vial. Especially when I was just in love w/ the smelly page. After reading your review I will try it again. Maybe even buy the bottle because I think the bottle is gorgeous anyway.
Thanks LeMaroc! That doesn't sound bad at all. Does the bottle look as nice in person?
Yes! The bottle is that luminous, almost kind of alien green that the real absinthe has and the bottle a nice heft to it. I like substantial bottles.
@Carolyn – not sure if your sample is a spray or not but I think this would smell better sprayed rather than dabbed on. I liked how the page smelled too, but I think it only really captured the top notes.
My sample is just the splash or dab type. Interesting thought about the difference in spray. I prob'ly will buy a bottle and give it a shot. Hopefully it isn't JUST the top notes that I was in love with, I had high hopes for it.
Again, thanks LeMaroc!
I sprayed this on myself today and didn’t think much of it until the far far drydown and I really like it. It is quite spicy/dried grass-ish and close to the skin. It is expensive for an Avon – $35 at the store but I might still consider it. It doesn’t seem quite so “knock-off-of-something-popular” as most Avon scents. It’s not super high-grade or anything, but definitely wearable and interesting. I think it is popular because there was only one bottle left.
Thanks! Wish I could try it.
Well, if I wind up getting any I’ll send you some. The far far far far drydown was that kind of chemical thing Avon and other cheapies do, but by then you can just put on something else.
Hey, that’s too much $ for “kind of chemical thing” though!
…meant to preface that with Thanks for the offer!
Hi, I’ve been lurking for a while. Fabulous blog.
This sounds interesting– I hope we can look forward to a full NST review?
Hi and welcome!
I doubt we’ll review it…I have no access to Avon samples. You never know, though…
