Perfumer Laurent Bruyere passes away

Posted by Robin on 19 November 2008 8 Comments

Laurent Bruyere, perfumerPerfumer Laurent Bruyère has passed away. Bruyère worked at Mane (and previously at IFF), and was 43 years old. His creations included Thierry Mugler Alien and Cacharel Amor Amor (both with perfumer Dominique Ropion), Thierry Mugler Angel Innocent, Ferragamo Incanto, Lalique Le Baiser and Costume National Scent.

In his own words:

I am self-taught. I have always had the passion of discovering how things are constructed and this directed me in my studies towards scientific research. But at 16, whilst studying biochemistry, I saw a lady preparing the doses for an Eau de Cologne….In order to understand more about it I began to study the great fragrances of the past, trying to reproduce them. [...]

I constantly confront myself with criticism: this makes the profession of Perfumer even more exalting. I’ve often worked with other creators, principally Dominique Ropion who has also been my mentor in the years in which I collaborated with IFF, and I hold much esteem and admiration for many colleagues.

What a terrible shame to lose someone so young and talented. :(

This is very sad, and at such a young age too. :(

I'm echoing what others have said before me. Such a shame for such a young person.

Oh, goodness. So young and talented. I noticed his name only the other day when I reread Chandler Burr's review of Lucienne. I wonder what happened?

R.I.P. Way too young, but at least he will be rememered as a great master.
