Calvin Klein Secret Obsession, CK IN2U POP ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 26 May 2008 25 Comments

Secret Obsession perfume by Calvin KleinCalvin Klein will launch Secret Obsession, a new fragrance for women fronted by Eva Mendes, this coming September.

The Secret Obsession fragrance is a floriental with no relationship to the original Calvin Klein Obsession scent other than the name and the steamy advertising (the television spot has apparently been nixed by network censors). According to a Coty representative,

Obsession put Calvin Klein on the map in 1985 and continues to be an integral piece of the brand portfolio...While Obsession epitomized the overt glamour and sexuality of the Eighties, Secret Obsession will become the meaning of what is sexy today — more personal, sophisticated and intoxicating. Eva Mendes is a reflection of how things have changed over the past 20 years."

Secret Obsession's notes include exotic plum, mace, rose de damas, jasmine, orange flower, tuberose, cashmere woods, burnt amber, vanilla and sandalwood.

Calvin Klein Secret Obsession will be available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum and in matching body products. (via wwd) Update: see a review of Calvin Klein Secret Obsession.

Calvin Klein CK IN2U Pop fragrancesAnd coming in July from Calvin Klein, the first set of flankers for 2007's CK IN2U, CK IN2U Pop:

ck IN2U POP for her is a creamy, citrus floral juice, containing notes of papaya, lime zest, blackberry, plum blossom, vanilla and woods. Its male counterpart is described as fresh, warm and woody, with top notes of mint, lemon and cucumber, leading to a heart of neroli, cardamom and violet, atop a base of patchouli and vetiver. Hi R ! :) Hope you had a great vacation !
To stay on topic, I admit I am not a fan of the original Obsession, so the fact that this is not related to the original scent is good news for me, I guess :) The bottle looks kind of odd though. Maybe it's better *in person* :) I still think Truth is the best CK scent.

Hey, thanks! We had a great time. And you & I agree on that bottle — it sure had better be an improvement in person ;-)

Some website, possibly Scented Salamander, showed a close-up of the Secret Obsession bottle, and as far as I can tell, it's not an improvement. Just the opposite: it looks cheap and rickety. (I bet the cap is awful. I still want to smell it, though.)

But then, the perfume bottle for the original had its problems, too. The bottle itself was nice, smooth and curved like a river-rock, but the cap was made of plastic, which shouldn't have been a problem except that the part that inserted into the bottle and held the cap in place–the stopper–over time actually softened and began to crumble from constant exposure to the (I assume) essential oils in the perfume.

I can hardly believe that CK IN2U was successful enough to produce a pair of flankers. The new ones sound just as bad, or rather as nondescript, as the originals.

I'll just crawl quietly into the Bad Taste corner; something about that bottle actually appeals to me! It looks like a cross between Aladdin's lamp and an onion…hmmm….must think about this some more… Welcome back, R!

It's on the cover of Friday's Women's Wear Daily. Don't know if I can tell even there if it looks cheap, I just don't care for the shape maybe?

You know, I've no idea how CK IN2U sold. I assume it did not fulfill their dreams of another CK One or we'd all know about it, but maybe it did better than it deserved ;-)

Hey, it does look exactly like “a cross between Aladdin's lamp and an onion”! I hate orange in any case, so I'm not going to like it even if it looks more appealing in person. We'll see! And thanks, had a great vacation :-)

Well, I like the original Obsession on me (the secret is to apply in tiny dabs) and think this one sounds kind of interesting. Not at all sure what they mean about the modern approach to sexy, but since I'm not the Coty people's target demographic anyway, I'm not concerned about it. The bottle doesn't do anything for me one way or another, but it's refreshing to see Eva Mendes as the *face*, as she looks relatively normal, not overly blonde and skinny.

I haven't ever commented on anything on this site, though I really enjoy reading all the reviews and comments. As a confirmed Obsession wearer (until recently) I am hopeful CK has come up with something new that will smell as good on me as Obsession did. I got positive comments at least weekly while wearing it; women liked it on me, and men really liked it. Most however didn't have any idea what it was, it has always been described as soft and powderish on me ???!!! All his other fragances don't really work on me, which is how I found this site during my quest for a new signature fragrance. I bought some Coco to tide me over, but I am still looking for that

special scent. I also really enjoy the way you folks have been coming up with suggestions for people to try this or that. Keep up the fantastic comments, and thanks.

Add me to the few who rather like the bottle – I can't see it close up, but I like the shape and color. And the cap means nothing to me – most bottles I get are uncapped anyway.

I like Eva Mendes – sexy as hell and she seems intelligent.

Rosarita, wild guess is that “modern approach” means this will be cleaner/fresher (i.e., not so sexy) than the original, but we'll have to wait & see! I don't know much about Eva Mendes, but agree she doesn't look like a waif, which is nice.

Well, this is the summer for Hellboy II.

I think Sephora only carried In2U for less than 6 months which seems like a grim fate for a CK scent. My guess is that the bottles tested so well in focus groups they thought a fresher version might work this time.

I am actually excited to try this one. In2U had such a bizarre and ham-handed concept and execution, a pop/camp interpretation may be just the ticket.

Is that right? I didn't even notice it was gone from Sephora. Well, who knows, these might be fun but personally I liked the white iPODish bottle more than these.

I am crawling into the bad taste corner here with VanillaGirl. Shockingly to me, I LOVED IN2U. The bottle bugs me, and is soo out of place amongst my collection. But it is, for me, a 'weekend' frag-when I throw my hair up in a baseball cap and run errands, or go play cards with friends. Any sort of dressing up, and it goes out the window-I think it's because to me, it smells like a guy's frag , and one I can get away with wearing. As for the new Obession, I will happy try it, Obession was my signature scent in high school-my dad bought me my first bottle in duty free on the way to our new posting in Copenhagen, DK. However I am leery of it as I normally don't do well with the flankers-Euphoria Blossom, Flower Princess, and the new green White Linen come quickly to mind, YEUCH!!!! We'll see. As far as the new IN2U, I really don't have much interest in it, as there is probably no chance in Hades it'll do as well with me as the original. But, one never knows, do you? And that is the basis of our common addiction.

It is so true, one never knows! I kind of like the original In2U bottle, but these colors don't appeal. Red, maybe, or purple? That might be fun.

The whole marketing idea looks obvious and regular. I've seen this before ;) I can image they put it on the billboard right next to the crossroads.

However I'd love to try this new fragrance, I pretty enjoy all scents from CK (excluding a few, for example original Obsession;))) ). I'd love to try some new good perfume with rose damascena. Maybe this one will be lucky?

Just smelled this is a new magazine and I really liked it. I think the magazine was Cosmopolitan. It was either that one or Elle because those were the only two I picked up. I was PRAYING Luscious Pink would be in there :(. No luck
