Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 4 April 2008 67 Comments

Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers perfumesGwen Stefani will follow up on last year's L.A.M.B. L fragrance with a collection of five fragrances, Harajuku Lovers. The scents are topped with dolls representing Stefani plus her four backup dancers, the "Harajuku Girls", and reflecting the youth oriented street style of the Harajuku district in Tokyo.

The fragrances are:

Love is a "sensuous floral" developed by perfumers Yves Cassar and Pascal Gaurin (notes: bergamot, pink pomelo, peach, bamboo leaf, watery peony, living hydroponic lace rose, jasmine sambac, nectarine blossom, creamy paperwhites, Egyptian jasmine, ylang ylang, vanilla, musk and blond wood).

Lil' Angel is a fruity floral developed by perfumer Christophe Raynaud (notes: raspberry, cranberry, blackberry, pineapple, pear blossom, violet, rose, lollipop accord, hinoki wood and crystal amber).

Music is a floral developed by Honorine Blanc (notes: clementine, pear, jasmine sambac, sweet pea, honeysuckle, vanilla, skin musk and sleek woods).

Baby is a "powdery musk" developed by perfumer Harry Fremont (notes: freesia, bergamot, white rose, orange flower, tiare, jasmine, white musk, soft woods, heliotrope, vanilla and violet).

G is a gourmand by perfumer Steve DeMercado (notes: mandarin, coconut, apple skin, jasmine sambac, freesia, magnolia, coconut cream, white sandalwood and cottonwoods).

The Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers fragrances will be available in 10 and 30 ml and in a coffret of solid perfumes. Look for them in September. (via Women's Wear Daily) Update: see a review of the Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers perfumes.

The ad is really cute. Music sounds nice. that is to say the notes of Music sound like they would smell nice. Wow, it's confusing to write about a perfume named Music.

Comptoir Sud Pacifique makes several. Lavanila also makes a Vanilla Coconut, and there are tons of others…too many to list!

Baby sounds like it might be okay. Really though I mostly (totally) want the bottles. I hope they come to the UK in the same bottles.

See, here is where I must be too old to “get it” — those bottles look ridiculous to me. The whole kawaii thing is over my head, I guess — but obviously, loads of people love it, and guessing these will sell by the truckload. I'm sure you'll see them in the UK!

I think that her music is popular mainly among very young girls (eleven, twelve years old). In one videoclip she wants to be sexy, in another one she wants to be a teenager and it is ridiculous. I don't get it and it is not interesting for me.

notes: RASPBERRY, CRANBERRY, BLACKBERRY, PINEAPPLE, pear blossom, violet, rose, LOLLIPOP ACCORD, hinoki wood and crystal amber

things in capslock: things i want in my food, not in my perfumes please! cranberry is good for two things – curing UTI and with vodka. same goes for blackberries and raspberries… good as jam or in a pie but not on my skin! LOLLIPOP ACCORD… the one that SCARES THE BEJESUS OUT OF ME… at least it's not the cupcake accord thing in one of those horrid britney perfumes.

i was hoping gwens stefani would stick to her edgier style and actually make a dry wood or weirdly androgynous perfume… but lollipops… SHUDDER

The bottles are a total turn-off for me.

As for the perfumes, floral – bleugh, fruity-floral – double bleugh.

Baby could be good, depending on prominent the violet note is. Or rather, how discreet.

As for G, I like an infusion of apple skins with cinnamon on a cold rainy evening but detest apple in fragrances.

These could be fun to own if older sister won't let you use her Berry Fizz …

Berry Fizz is a pretty nail polish shade from Estee Lauder. Sorry Aerin ;-)

Oddly enough, its the Cupcake Accord that makes me love Britney Spears Fantasy. It may not be a sophisticated fragrance alone, but i love using it as a top layer to my deeper floral perfumes. I mean, Fantasy is a nice top note, as it dissapears within minutes.

I don't know that that's true…the kawaii “movement” seems to appeal to adults too, at least in Asia (and I'm assuming Asia is a prime target for these).

Gwen has been on a major Asian kick lately, so I'm not really surprised.
The bottles are cute, but they do have a creepy quality to them. They might be good, but I'm going to say that they might end up being the same things that are being released all the time — fruity florals, aquatics (that's what I call them, can't exactly remember the term), or gourmands.
Although there's always the possibility that I could wrong. There could be a winner in this bunch, but time will tell.

I was tempted to buy some samples but am just gonna be patient. I think L was really original. I wonder if five new fragrances is a bit much though…difficult to imagine that they will all be decent. There are so many perfumes coming out in September but if last year was anything to go by I think it's better value to wait until giftsets at Christmas.

We got the promotional materials in at Nordies and they also sent foil blister samples. The Baby is nicely done, and Music as well. The one with the coconute accord is interesting; totally not me, but I think it will do really well. There are solid compacts available as well… when it arrives. It should be soon, I hope. The displays are adorable!

The foil samples were sent in 2 promo pamphlets – just enough for the SA's to check them out. They didn't send us anything for customers. The tester bottles are 3 ounces; so you should be able to get drammed vial samples.

I smelt all 5 of these at Nordstroms the other day, Baby smells like baby powder and Angel smells way too sweet to me. Music and G were done the best. But the sweet coconut in G in a way reminded me of Ralph Lauren Hot. I was tempted to buy a bottle of Music, but I'm going to wait for the tester sizes to pop up on ebay in a couple of months.

If I can wait that is….

Smelled these at Macy's yesterday. The rep for COTY was there and my friend from Macy's called me personally and told me to come down there to pre-order 2 of them to get a limited edition bracelet. I pre-ordered the Lil' Angel and Love. Music smells exactly like L but kinda different. G is..very interesting. Baby smells disgusting! I think I'll just get Love, Lil' Angel, Music and G. Do you know if these are limited edition, Robin?

I bought all of them yesterday!….I'll start with my top favorite down (I love them all though)…Lil' Angel was a winner its very fruity candy sweet and its drydown is very similer to that of Bath and Body Works Brown Sugar and Fig….Baby was so pretty (sorry Jlove) I loved it it does have this kinda new born baby smell to it and when I asked the sales rep which was doing the best he said Bay! I got the latst box….Love is very sensual its the most floral out of the three and it is very smooth……G is a blast of humid coconuts (atleast on my skin) from begining to end its very tropical……Music does very much smell like L only with a more citrus punch with a pinch of something metallic I like it very much….so here it is hope u enjoy…

I'm really starting to like G the best. (I still have the cards the woman sprayed). I can't wait to re-smell them. Did you get them from Macy's?

Lol! maybe….but I really liked Baby and alot of other people around my area can agree…. I mean I got the last box but its strange they told me Lil' Angel wasn't doing so well….but to everyone there own….I thought baby had powdery lacing threw out the fragrance but it smells very innocent and clean to me so I was attracted to it lol….. Yup I did get it at Macy's….. The solid perfume box with alll of them is around 65$ I believe….

These have GOT to be the WORST perfumes ever!

Problem #1, the Lasting Power SUUUUUUCKS! They probably last a good 30 minutes on me IF THAT!

Problem #2, I sprayed my G TWICE and it looks like it made a huge impact! 3 more sprays and I'll be half done! The bottle is small enough! These damn dolls take up a lot of the room!

I can't believe this! Well, I guess you get what you pay for

Awww! well atleast u can say u didn't try…. I agree that they are not heavy fragrances and wear very close to the skin… I only wear them on my pulse points…I'd classify them as day fragrances since there so light….Oh! Jlove I'm so with u on how much is wasted on 3 sprays I had the huges urge to steal the 3.4 sample bottles from Macy's lol… U just watch I feel shes gonna pull a fast one and come out with the limited edition EDP versions lol!
