Jil Sander Style Summer, Estee Lauder Bali Dream ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 21 February 2008 29 Comments

Jil Sander Style Summer perfumeComing in March from Jil Sander, Style Summer, a limited edition summer interpretation of 2006's Jil Sander Style fragrance for women.

The green floral woody scent was developed by perfumers Bernard Ellena and Lucas Sieuzac. The notes feature bergamot, freesia leaves, water lily, pink pepper, jasmine, violet, magnolia, vanilla, amber, vetiver and musk.

Jill Sander Summer Style will be available in 75 ml Eau de Toilette Fraîche.(via cosmoty.de)

Other recent launches from Jil Sander: Scent 79 Man & Woman, Sport Water & Sun Men Fresh.

Estee Lauder Bali Dream perfumeAlso in March, Estee Lauder will launch Bali Dream, a travel retail exclusive fragrance for women:

The top notes feature a profusion of Bali’s most prized flowers, according to Lauder, notably moon orchids, magnolia and ginger. These lead to a heart of Chinese cassia, Indonesian jasmine, pepper, ylang ylang, gardenia, muguet and apple, on a base of woods and vanilla.

The bottle for Estee Lauder Bali Dream recalls last year's Emerald Dream, and will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum. (via moodiereport)

Other recent launches from Estee Lauder: Pure White Linen Light Breeze.

R, first silly question of the day. Do you know if Bernard is related to Jean-Claude?

C, my memory is that they're related, maybe brothers? But can't find confirmation online at the moment and my memory is not the best 🙂

I am pretty sure from my memory of The Perfect Scent that they are brothers.

well, this pink pepper thing is getting out of hand.

Who knew that the perfumers were so receptive to fads/ fashion mood swings!

I am just guessing that once an “ingredient” is widely available the price goes down, and while it is still “new” and trendy, the just can't resist to buy bulk 😀

Pardon me, as I am not a seasoned perfumista yet. But what is wrong with pink pepper? I believe it is in RL Romance which is one of my favorites. Fashion is as fashion does. you like what you like, blah, blah, blah. I like baby doll by ESL, and other scents people seem to consider passe or too young or too commercial. I would like more “sophisticated” and sexier fragrances, but I'm not sure what that means. Did I just fall off the turnip truck? Jil Sander Style Summer sounds like I would really like it-so Is Narciso Rodriguez For Her par fum, although someone said it smelled like Lovely by SJP, which I have but now smells too powdery or old fashioned. Does anyone know of a good review on For Her the Perfume? I apologize for being all over the map. me confused and feel dum.

You know, once you start paying attention, it is astonishing how often they throw it in the mix! I need to go back in time and figure out when it started — I probably took a long time to notice.

Absolutely NOTHING is wrong with pink pepper, in fact, I like pink pepper. But if you read lots of new fragrance announcements, you start to notice that it is in a really huge number of new releases, and we are prone to get snarky & sarcastic about such things around here. Just ignore us, really, we need to have our fun.

I have not reviewed For Her because it gives me some sort of allergic reaction. Here is a review from Bois de Jasmin:

    I concur with Robin… it's us just being sarcastic…

But as a Trend-watching aficionado, I do enjoy when people realize that a pattern is going on…

So, for the record.. there is nothing wrong with pink pepper 😀

Lovely and narciso for her share an animalic/fecal (and that is just my personal opinion) note… although on the Narciso y smell it more pronouncedly… like a decaying jasmine bouquet in the summer heat.

Anyway, it does smell sexy to me…and yet manages not to smell cheap… for me that is a feat.

If you are all over the map, then you've come to the right place 🙂

I am a seasoned rambling madman and I fell at home at NST.

Estee Lauder makes me sad. It's been about 5(?) years since they've released a men's fragrance. Beyond Paradise is easily one of my favorite colognes. 🙁 They really need to start making some new stuff for the guys.

Oh… Jil Sander's summer style seems quite nice, i like the idea of leaves + water lily + magnolia…. guess I would like to try that… didn't know much about the original Style though but the summer one seems a lot more interesting..

Perhaps they find their men's scents sell better under one of the subsidiary names, like Tommy Hilfiger?

I don't love Style, but I did like Stylessence. This one might take awhile to get to the US, so guessing I won't smell it any time soon.

I am with you! bring it on, I love the pepper notes, and I have quite a few with it 🙂

If this is a trend, I hope it stays, (I like it better than pinky sugary stuff)

If memory serves me right, I think Robin likes it, she favorably. reviewed the Kenzo Oriental and I went it sniffed it and purchased it within a day. (I have the memory of an elephant).

I think that both Jil Sander and Estee Lauder make very good fragrances and I always try them when I find them, but this one by EL has vanilla and that is not my fav. note.

Tried Pure White Linen Breeze and I like that one a lot but the drydown is too aquatic to my taste.

And I like pink pepper and black pepper and even red hot pepper is fine with me 🙂

A good espresso tastes even better with a tiny bit of black pepper, and fruit juices with some cayenne pepper are worth a try..

thank you Robin? for being gracious and making me feel at home. thank you all for being so supportive. I hesitate about NR edp For Her. I heard several people have the same reaction…suffocating.. I would love to find MY special elusive perfume. One that is floral, green, woody, with maybe a touch of fruit. I can't find it. Do you ever?

stella in two peony comes very close. I crave something soft with an undercurrent of cedarwood, amber, or musc. Feminine with a soft sexy dry down.. Sigh. So many “sexy” scents make me smell like a “professional”. Where can you find more noncommercial scents? I'm stuck at sephora or department stores. E please don't stop being sarcastic. Ir's the only thing that can keep you sane sometimes:) add a little Cayenne pepper in chocolate, it brings out the flavor. It is fun to track down trends though. CSI look out.

Ok, floral, green, woody w/ touch of fruit: could be Parfums de Nicolai Eau d'Ete or Eau Exotique. Or maybe Eau de Givenchy, Balmain Vent Vert, Annick Goutal Folavril, Chanel Cristalle, Hermes Caleche Eau Delicate or Kelly Caleche, L'Artisan L'Ete En Douce or La Chasse Aux Papillons. If you've already tried any of those, tell me what you thought of them and we can help narrow it down.

On the left column you'll find an area marked “Favorite Articles”, underneath that see “how to get fragrance samples” — niche samples are actually easier to get than mainstream samples.

None of the EL Linen scents work for me, although they're very nicely done, all of them. Bali Dream, I'm guessing, will take a very long time to get here.

    R. like Emerald Dream Bali Dream is probably a travel retail scent and so only available at taxfreeshops at airports. Thought Emerald Dream was nothing special.

Am back in Prague btw and noticed today that still taxfree available are Hermes Caleche and Patou Joy.

Maybe that is nice news to some people 🙂

I tried Caleche but that was not love at first sniff. Hope to get the opportunity to try C. a couple more times.

Yes, Bali Dream is for duty free, but like Emerald Dream, will probably end up in regular distribution later.

My re re re re re comment. sorry. I thought cristalle sounded great but hard to find. Some of them sound a little bit too fruity. I love, love SM peony in two…delicate but then sensual. I just ordered Gerdarme Lust and YSL Paris Le Jardin de Romantique. I can't find many reviews. I was interested in what you thought? YSL sounds Delicate and Gerdarme sound Sensual ( and inexpensive). I'd like to explore those two sides of myself. What do you think since I do so admire your opinion? I hope YSL isn't too sweet like Fracas is too my nose. I love Fracas in small dabs. And I hope Lust doesn't smell cheap or trampy-A big fear of mine. I want to be sophisticated in fragrance choices but what does that mean?…Lust..ha ha ha! Doesn't sound trampy does it? ;o)

    adoringly, Becca

I'm sorry but I will be of no help — I have not tried either the Gendarme or that version of YSL Paris. Paris is a fairly sweet scent, but the limited edition versions are usually lighter & more sparkling, so perhaps it will be just what you're looking for.

The funny this about Emerald Dream is… it is easier for me to get the fake than the original.

As a person live just one island away from Bali (or maybe two), I'm really curious about Bali Dream.

I recently bought Bali Dream cheap at TJ Max, though got yelled at for sniffing and closing the already open box before I bought it! It is a light floral to my nose. It’s very pretty and inoffensive, however perhaps lacking in wow-factor. I was looking for something lighter for spring and summer, so I’m happy with it.

Glad you like your new purchase, and assume you got a great deal! I’ll have to see if my TJMaxx has it.
