Celebrity perfume quote of the day

Posted by Robin on 30 September 2007 22 Comments

What do they know about perfume? You buy jeans from Levis, watches from Rolex and perfume from the best makers. I think this celeb obsession is pretty stupid actually.

— Hilary Swank on why she is happy to be the face of Guerlain Insolence, but would never launch a celebrity perfume under her own name. Read more at Contact Music.

A woman with some sense! And a pretty good actress too.

Sense, yes! Haven't seen her act enough to comment on the other :-)

She was fantastic in Boys Don't Cry and Million Dollar Baby. You haven't seen either of these films?

Nope! Just went and looked at the list at IMDB, and hate to admit it but pretty sure I've never seen her in anything at all, which seems odd — she looks so familiar.

Good Lord, people!!! She's won TWO Best Actress Oscars!!! In fact, both times she was nominated, Annette Bening was nominated in the same category – and then lost to Ms. Swank. And to think, she was FIRED from a small role she had on Beverly Hills 90210!

Got to admit I don't usually watch the Oscars either, sorry! Have seen several Annette Bening movies if that redeems me in any way :-)

I agree that being an Oscar winner isn't necessarily a sign of talent (I'm sure I could name quite a few actors who didn't deserve theirs; or vice versa). Sometimes actors who do deserve an Oscar for a performance get it for another for which they don't. Like Judi Dench. who got it for an eight-minute part in Shakespeare in Love when she should have got it for her marvellous performance the year before for Mrs Brown.

I find Annette Bening 'inoffensive', usually unmemorable. I won't forget Hilary Swank in Boys Don't Cry for a long time.

Adding my two cents…. I like AB very much. Have you seen “American Beauty” or “In Dreams” or “The Siege”? And HS was also terrific in “Insomnia”.

Loved American Beauty. Didn't see those other two. I'm behind on everything!

Now see, I did see Shakespeare in Love AND Mrs Brown. Trying, still, to redeem myself. Judi Dench is wonderful. But the few times I've watched the whole Oscar show I've a) been bored to death and b) didn't think they were rewarding excellence.

Judi Dench WAS Mrs. Brown, wasn't she? And she was superb, absolutely magnificently, jealously malevolent, in Notes on a Scandal, with Cate Blanchett, another great actor. Hmm, speaking of which, it seems to me — or is it just a figment of my imagination — that she is the Face for some frag or other? Can anyone enlighten? If not, she should be!

I absolutely detested American Beauty. Contrived and lacking in integrity. I was so not interested in those characters. I liked AB in The American President, that's about it.

I've seen a few of Sam Mendes's prods on the stage and haven't really liked any of them much. I resent him too because he took over the Donmar Warehouse after the RSC moved to the Barbican and he turned it from a wonderful studio theatre full of innovative ideas into a venue for celebs and film stars to perform. Blech!

Aaargh! Just looked at the TV programme: they're showing The American President tonight on BBC1. Spooky.

CB is the face for something, I think you're right. But for some reason I think it isn't a fragrance?? Just can't remember.

You know, in an ideal world, Judi Dench would be The Face for something. I wonder which fragrance would be just the right fit? Something regal yet gutsy. Hmmm. . .

Found it on Wikipedia — she is the face for some skincare brand I've never heard of, SK-II

Ah ha! I'm sure it's just a matter of time before she's the face of a fragrance. If I had a frag to flog, she'd be my choice, I think: smart, gutsy, warm-hearted, with style to spare to go along with all that substance.
