The People of the Labyrinths A.MAZE ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 18 January 2007 20 Comments

The People of the Labyrinths A.MAZE fragranceAt least one of my fragrance wishes for 2007 has come true. The People of the Labyrinths have launched A.MAZE:

The new perfume strikes a somewhat lighter note [than Luctor et Emergo, their first fragrance]. On top you find Henna and Saffron, a combination which gives your senses a surprising opening boost. In the bouquet you find the delicate Taif Rose from Saudi Arabia, Orange Blossom, Wardia Rose and many other natural components. In the fond you experience precious woods; Agarwood from Cambodia, Sandalwood, Musk and Civet.

Now, can it possibly live up to expectations? I'm almost afraid to try it. (via The People of the Labyrinths website, with thanks to Ilse for the tip!) Update: see a review of POTL Amaze.

    *Thud*

I am not excited. I am not excited. I am NOT excited.

    I can wait.

Nowhere in the UK will sell this, anyway.

Is this one out yet in US, R? I look forward to testing it, but since the first fragrance makes my skin crawl, I think I can keep myself under control.

Now if there's a matching body cream that would be a totally different story, because the current body cream is amazing!

    Hugs!

I tried it on paper in the shop, but since I'm not good at analizing scent I can only say it is very different from Luctor et Emergo. Definitely worth trying on skin though. I had a very nice chat with the POTL shop owner, who is somewhat of a perfume buff and was consulted during the creation of both scents. It appears one of the POTL designers is a big fan of the Comme des Garçons incense series. So much so they worked with the same nose for the creation of L&E. Couldn't tell me the name though.

I think it sounds GREAT, and POTL is Play-Doh on me. Come on — those notes?!?!? Doesn't it sound wonderful?

Seriously, you mean you can't buy Luctor et Emergo in the UK???

Ack, made your skin crawl! Then you are kind to want to try the second :-)

Luckyscent & Beautyhabit are both selling it on pre-order, and would assume (but not sure) that they have samples already — worth emailing to check.

Aha — but which one of the incense series scents? They weren't all done by the same nose. Would like to think that Bertrand Duchaufour did Luctor et Emergo.

The notes sound absolutely great, and I adore POTL #1. This does sound VERY different.

The only store that sold Luctor e Emergo here was Scent Systems – or I think they did; the site blue-screened my PC every time I tried to navigate it. They're still mentioned on the POTL website, but there's no mention on the SS site of what SS actually sells, apart from bespoke scents…so who knows?

As near as I can tell from the SS website, all they are doing now is bespoke. I'm sort of amazed (pardon the pun) that there isn't a single store in London carrying POTL.

Ordered a samp from Lucky. Hoping for better results than POTL :-) can't be much worse…

I pray that it is nothing, but nothing like the first POTL. Which, as R said, makes my skin crawl. :-) Sorry, I know you love it. I have never been able to understand why I have such a reaction to it. There is nothing loud or in any way Too Much about it, it's not Obsession after all, but it just causes me extreme discomfort when I try to wear it. Go figure.
I heard that POTLAM :-) is very much about roses…

    The notes sound very appealing!

Can someone fill me in on what the deal is with People of the Labrynths? I've read about it for ages, but it's apparently so niche it's in a niche of its own.

I've never even seen it in Canada. Who are the creators? Why the wacky name? Why does everyone make such a big hairy deal about it? It's like a secret perfume handshake I missed out on.

Don't know if I can get past their packaging which I find quite ugly. But I would give this new one a sniff if I ever stumbled upon it.

And of course, I pray that it is, well, not *like* it, exactly, but equally atmospheric. And was soooo hoping it would become POTL 2 and not POTLAM, but I see from MUA that that battle may already be lost :-)

The People of the Labyrinths is a Dutch fashion house of some kind:

    http://www.labyrinths.nl/

…and honestly, I don't know a darn thing about them except what I've seen on the website. The clothes are quirky, and probably you can get them in NYC someplace.

The perfume is something that I think of as more of a mood than a perfume, and I guess it nearly qualifies as a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing. I love it. Not sure why, but there is just nothing else like it, and of all of my fragrances, it is the one I find most comforting. I guess the big hairy deal is that so many people adore it, and they've taken forever to come out with a 2nd scent? LOL…you know how perfumistas are, we'll make a big hairy deal out of anything ;-)

It is funny, on MUA even people who didn't like POTL 1 are excited about POTL 2. Hope springs eternal :-)

Cheez — adding on to R's excellent reply (R – I hope this pops up in the right place on the thread) — the other part of the love-it-or-hate it is, it's sort of a litmus test. You either get R's ecstatic reaction OR you get Marina's skin-crawl…. OR choice C (also a hate-it) is my common response: the exact smell replica of Play-Doh. Fairly common. Must be a skin chemistry thing? I like Play-Doh but don't want to wear it …. I wish I was getting what R was getting.:-)

But I *am* gettting Play Doh, LOL….at least for the early stages. And it is glorious :-)

Hee! Thanks for the explainer everyone, and if ever I stumble upon it, I will try it out of sheer curiousity.
