And the first fragrance under the Tom Ford label will be…

Posted by Robin on 24 February 2006 10 Comments

Tom FordBlack Orchid. Maybe. They have filed for the trademark, anyway. We shall see. If you missed the original story about the Tom Ford - Estee Lauder collaboration, see it here, and we're still expecting the Estee Lauder Azurée body oil spray to appear before the launch of his own collection later in the year. (via A Socialite's Life, with thanks to Luxist for the tip)

Update: see a review of Tom Ford Black Orchid.

Ummm well there is already a Black Orchid, if that matters.

There was one by Coty, right? Don't know if it is still in production. And Susanne Lang has a Black Orchid.

What I know about trademark law would fit on the head of a pin, so no idea if it matters.

This is the cue for someone to voice the cliche that Tom Ford Knows Luxury, so it might as well be me. ;)

Won't Susanne Lang mind, I wonder? She has Black Orchid fragrance.

Perhaps she has not trademarked the name?

Black Orchid was also what Opium was going to be called at first.

About Susanne Lang and Lauder: Who can afford the best legal help? I think Lauder would win.

Interesting, I did not know that about Opium.

And of course you are exactly right…SL is a very small line. To my knowledge, they are only in a handful of brick n mortar stores in the US.

Is Saks a brick and mortar store? I thought that she was also in Barneys and Nordstrom. Maybe I am wrong.

Yes, but the SL line is not at all Saks — last I heard, it was only at the NYC branch & 1 store on the west coast. Barneys dropped the line. I had never seen it at Nordstrom, but perhaps they have it at some stores too.
